My name is Greg Phillips and I’m a line producer here at SCEA. For the past seven years, I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Insomniac Games on everything from Spyro the Dragon 2 and 3, also as a tester to every Ratchet & Clank game and most recently Resistance: Fall of Man.
I wanted to let you know that registration for the first inaugural national Resistance: Fall of Man tournament starts today. This is something we’re really fired up about. It’s time to start identifing some of the best ROFM players in the US. Click here for tourney details. The folks in our legal department have asked me to remind everyone that you must be 18 to participate and a US resident. Space is limited, so get in there quick if you meet all of the requirements.
A big thanks to Insomniac Games, Global Gaming League, GameStop and GamePlay HD for helping us make this happen. While those of us that work for SCE and Insomniac are ineligible to compete, you can find various Insomniacs online every first and third Friday of the month from 5-6pm PST for Resistance Fridays. The players differ from week to week, with everyone from the studio including Insomniac head honcho Ted Price joining in the fun. The next Resistance Friday is, coincidentally, this Friday, June 22nd. Also, check back on this blog soon for an update on the map pack and global server.
And, finally, as E3 draws closer, I’ll have an update to share on Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, featuring a sneak peak at what we will be showing at E3. As a hint, this level, along with Kerchu City, was briefly shown in our first trailer back in March.

Good signs that Sony cares but I wonder what sort of PSP tournaments Sony has considered.

A shame its not an INTERnational tournement ;), if you get my subtle hint Sony.
I think it would be awesome if we could find the worlds best R:FOM player.

I am very glad this website has launched because its a very direct way for Sony to communicate to its customers.
However I was hoping this site would be for worldwide Playstation owners not just U.S. I’d have loved to take part in the Resistance tournament. I’ve invested a lot in my PS3 and I dont understand why Europe (the PS3s biggest customer) is being marginalised.
If you are gonna run a tournament dont ignore Japan/Australia/Europe/UK etc make it worldwide!

sweetasman01 | June 19th, 2007 at 7:04 am
What about New Zealand? It is the ONLY contry in the whole entire universe that the PSP is more popular than the DS and this is how to treat us with not competions or even world wide severs?
I would swear but it might get me banned so just know I am very angry!!!!

Hey, I cant register on the tourny site because I’m from New Jersey, and New Jersey isnt even listed on the list of states…please fix this ASAP so I can register for the tourney since I meet all other requirments, Thanks!

Oh nevermind, I just read the thing, I was too frantic and excited about the torunment I didnt even read this part
EXCLUDING RESIDENTS OF THE STATES OF ARIZONA, FLORIDA, IOWA, LOUISIANA, MARYLAND, NEW JERSEY, VERMONT, AND PUERTO RICO, GUAM AND THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS.
Is there any reason why residents of those states are exluded…I hope all tournaments dont exclude people from NJ cause then there goes my fun

I have to say that as a development company Insomiac has set an incredibly high performance bar that few other developers can meet! They not only created an incredible game, but they communicate with their customers in an informative website (myresistance.net), they actually PLAY the game regularly with people who want to challenge the devs, and most importantly they’ve continued patching the game to keep cheating down and keep the game fun. Ubi, Zipper and others can learn a lot from Insomniac about great customer relations!!!

anyone want to buy a ps3. it cost me nearly £500 only a couple of month ago, it has only been used once.. i only want £250, that would be enough for me to get an xbox 360 with a couple of games… i would have thought sony may have clocked onto the fact that the xbox is half the price and twice the fun. get a grip sony, im really disapointed with the way EVERYTHING gets delayed in the uk, all in all i think the ps3 deserves to fail miserably.

greyham | June 19th, 2007 at 10:47 am
Resistance was a great game and the Insomniac Team should be proud of it. Too bad about the map delays. Three weeks ago I would have bought them in a heartbeat, but if you hadn’t noticed we’re getting 3 new titles next week (RB6, Darkness, NGS ). The first two have online play, and if it’s any good I’ll be shelving Resistance for a while. So now I’m on the fence about purchasing the new maps for Resistance when they come. For the sake of all the people and their excellent work at Insomniac, I hope your delay doesn’t have too much of a negative impact on the map sales.

I was wondering…wats the best sony 32 inch tv to get for the playstation 3??? Theres a new one out called the KDL-32D3000. Is this model any good??? Im getting a ps3 n new tv in a few weeks n really need to know.
Here are the specs of this model?
KDL-32D3000
Motionflow+100Hz for smooth motion
24p True Cinema for viewing in accurate cinema experience
Theatre Mode picture settings optimised by Sony Pictures Entertainment
Bravia Theatre Sync for easy control of AV devices
S-Force sounds giving surround sound effect
10-bit Panel for smoother shades of colour
3 x HDMI for easy connectivity - 2 on rear, 1 on side
Bravia Engine picture enhancement technology
HD Ready
New remote commander
Digital TV terrestrial tuner (also receives analogue) built in
It also says it supports 576i, 480p, 576p, 1080i, 720p, 1080p, 24p input.
Although it says on the sony site that it supports 1080i and 1080p, when i asked the guy in the shop he said that it supported 720p and that no 32 inch tv’s supported 1080i or 1080p because the screen size is not large enough for it to work? Is he right???
Does anyone know of any other sony models that are the best to use with the ps3? Id prefer to get a sony brand tv but if anyone knows any other brand which is better could they please let me know?? Also, if any sony officials are reading this, what are your preferred choices of tv’s?
Thanks everyone!!!

Well this sucks for us people who live in the states that are excluded, I emailed the resistance support about it, and asked why we’re excluded and this is the email I received.
The reason residents of several states cannot participate in this tournament is because of certain laws in your state regarding the rating of the game that the competition uses.

Did you guys hear that Resistance: Fall of Man has now sold more than 2 million copies! Wow, I think this makes Resistance the best selling Ps3 game so far, followed by Motorstorm. Congratulations Insomniac for the success of this amazing game. Insomniac puts alot of effort into their games and it shows in their quality, they are one of my favorite developers. Congratulations again and good luck to them with Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, which I cannot wait for.

first, shuffles you should probably post this in the forums, not in the blog.
Ok, that is a VERY nice TV, and the guy at the store was right. Basically, the TV will accept an input of 1080i/p, but since the TV only has 1366×768 pixels, it downscales the 1920×1080 input, so it actually only displays 1280×720. Despite this, this is still a nice TV to go with the PS3.

I’ve played online a fair amount and i’m sure i’d get trashed by some of the better players out there… fortunately the point is moot because i’m a Canadian.. anyway
I know it was mentioned that there’d be no expansion of the single player story but i’d definitely pay for another campaign if i could play through a Chimera story even based off the original RFoM maps.
That being said.. i’d much prefer a sequel with something of that included within.

Slightly off topic, but with the right people here, I have to ask; any chance we’ll get an update that includes vehicular schinnanigans? Tanks, and Jeeps, and stuff would be brill. Just need yet more maps to play in. Oh that’d be a shame aye? Please please please!!

to everyone in Canada and Europe, I know your situation sucks but if it makes you feel any better alot of people in the states cant sign up either because of local laws and the M rating. Hopefully that will help make you guys less upset. The support that Europe has shown the PS3 is wonderfull!

LordofRuin: The magic 8-ball shows no vehicles in Resistance’s immediate future.

LordOfRuin | June 22nd, 2007 at 9:58 am
Oh Poooo! Greg, I’m hoping the magic eight ball is broken! Ha ha ha! Ah well, have to wait for Warhawk for that sort of crazy action.
How about the option to fill the rest of the unused player slots with bots? Winner, still the player with the greatest score, but more things to shoot at when low on competitors. This is something that is a bit of a pain when I’ve set up a match, but nobody will join, because there’s onlu myself there running around waiting for others to frag. Populate it with bots, and simply replace them with real people as they join. Dunno, just a thought. I’m sure you guys must get a million silly ones a day, and probably the same million the next day.
I’ll shut up now. But damn that magic eight ball.

One question that I hope gets answered. In the tournament rules is says that “Semifinalists must be able to travel to New York, NY between August 10th-12th.” Does that mean we have to find our own transportation to New York, NY? Or do you guys give us a plane ticket to get there? If we have to find our own transportation to New York, NY then it will be a problem for me…
