Firmware 1.82 Coming Soon…

562 0

Hey everyone, you told us you wanted to hear about updates a few days in advance, so here’s a quick heads up that we have a PS3 firmware update in the works. [UPDATE: it’s available today]

Firmware 1.82 is an update that enables the playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) files. As most of you know, these are high quality files that you’ll now be able to play on your PS3. Hopefully this update is moving us closer to the audio playback features many of you commented about in my post the other week. We’re continuing to evaluate and improve things across the board, including PS2 software compatibility. Thanks for all of your support and feedback, keep it coming!

• we need the following:

1 – XMB access while in a game
2 – Better integration PS store. Now its just a website which is slow and ugly. Integrate it into the OS like XBox Live
3 – NTFS support for external harddrives
4 – 1080p24 forced ‘on’ feature!!!!!
5 – achievements!!! -> invention of the decade in the gaming genre imho

• updated my ps3 and nothing new again and again ;(

• i think there needs to be a few more formats supported such as .AVI and .MPEG or even .MOV….it would savealot of MP4 converting….a few other things such as the online browser needs to looked at with things like quicktime, realtime, flash and others being implimented into the browser so if you would like to watch a clip in a url its possible…if these things were to be introduced into the ps3 through a firmware update….then thats something that might excite me and many others anywayz keep up the good work and get started on those ideas SONY

• I agree with the video formats how about WMV or digital camera video, i know its coming sooner or later. cant wait for 2.0 that’ll have xmb access etc. check out what ps3 haks says it’ll have.

• hi, Firmware 1.82 is now available to download!! Downloading right now, can’t wait for it to finished!! Just happen to turn on my PS3 after dinner…..keep it coming!!

• Thankyou once again Sony. Keep up the sterling work.

kind regards.

• I also support forcing 1080/24!!!!!!!!! Please make it happen!

• Hey Sony devs, i’m having bit of an issue downloading the firmware update directly from My PS3, when i get to 43 percent it comes out with an error and the download stops… it gives me this

An error has occurred
(8002F994)

normally i just download the firmwares by PC then transfer them Via USB to my PS3… but your currently only has update 1.81. which i’m finding rather inconvenient, considering the fact that i’d like to shop online on PSN and enjoy the last week of the Warhawk beta . if it’s possible could you or one of your staff members email me the update at Sevir04@Gmail.com i’d really appreciate that and would give you kudos to know that you all respond so well and fast to a coutomer’s needs/wants

• I bought a sony 1080p hdtv and ps3 for optimum gaming. I am very satisfied; but I loathe the fact that some of my games are displayed in 720. I don’t care if the difference is small. I want what I payed for. Sony talk to the developers, stand up for us. You advertised me full HD, not 720.

• PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me activate remote play without an internet connection!!!!! I dont have broadband and without it most of the media stuff is pointless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

• Hi, thanks for information,
Hopefully Sony will release an app that is built specifically for the PS3 that will handle media serving from a PC. As it stands now the media playback capabilities are weak, maybe this update has more than what you have mentioned
in te firmware 1.81 alredy for handle media of a pc server, only you need de server software, i like tvversity that is free http://www.tversity.com/home.
Please don’t block this function

In another order of things,
im spanish(sorry for my bad english) in Europe including Spain, Sony it does not update the contents in the store, only the firmware. Has forgotten Sony to Europe and Spain?

Why USA can try home and Europe(including Spain) no?

Why USA have official blog and Europe or Spanish people don´t have?

When you are going to bring more catalogue from games to Europe, including Spain?

Is Spain the ass of the world for Sony? it is that here they have been sold almost more than in other places

You have only published in Spain the launching games: MotorStorm, Formulates 1, Resistance Fall of Ma, Virtua Fighter 5. So that you do not bring the United States games? If I can play one demo of the American store in my Sony Bravia, so that not to the whole game?

Do you know if Phill Harrisson considers idiots to the users of the entire world including Spain? saying that with the launching games as Resistance Fall of Man already demonstrates the potential of Playsation 3, with it perhaps formulates 1. But that would have to say it when LAIR is sent the sea at least already has dynamics of fluids.

Thanks to listen to me.
Bye, See you later.

• Proper full screen scaling for the PS3 browser. Ajax support via browser. Strict QA for PS3 games

• Nice! thanks, downloading now.

• Excellent, more video codecs would be greatly appreciated (DiVX, WMV, MOV, etc…).

• You could do some widgets for somethings like Apple and Microsoft due for some functions that can appear and disappear from the main screen. I would be cool to see a top ten list on SOE the top scores for online games currently being played on the SOE network.

• Don’t forget an big one. DTSHD-MA audio decoding,

• Thank you Sony for the updates keep them coming!
To bad that Bungie was acquired by Microsoft, they know how to program the powerPC and could write a remake of Marathon for the PS3 and could equal or better than Halo 3 :)

• Sony should get Tom Cruise to do a PSP commercial if Nintendo is using Nicole Kidman :)
Sony should investigate the SiBEAM Wireless HD VAN this would allow all the people who want to hang a LCD monitor over the fireplace the freedom to do so and I am sure other application could be utilized with the wirelessHD solution.

• What else is in the update, i just downloaded it, but thewebsite has not updated the info yet. ne1 know what else is in this one?

• thanks sony

• Update 1.82 caME OUT THIS MORNING AROUND 2:00AM. Has anyone seen any other inforamtion about it.

• Killer! This pushes the audio to new levels, like it.

I can’t wait for the “in game music” update where you can play your own music in some games like MotorStorm. That alone would make me play the game 2 more hours or so compared to the 2hrs-3hrs I play it.

• How about mapping “back” to L2 in the Store? This saves time navigating to the back button.

• I love that u guys are pushing out new firmware updates and all the new features are great, but could you please have a system so you can only download the new stuff without all the old stuff included? cos the more stuff you add, the bigger the downloads are goin to get!

• heihachi.vs.Kazuya

When do you plan on allowing the playback of divx or .avi video? I have some feedback for you people over at sony. get your hands on xbmc so you can see what a real media center is. There isn’t even full H.264 support on the ps3 this is a joke.

• Cool, thanks on the info. Anything on the PSP?

• @DrFurbs

i cant be 100% sure that you are a [DELETED] but if your ps3 had a [DELETED] i think you would probably suck it.

• 1.82 is out now!

Nice work guys. Really fast. I assume you are not sleeping at all.

• Well, im glad there will be support for h.264. But id love to see support for all formats. AVI, wmv, xvid and divx.

Thanks so much

• Here is a idea that Apple computer did in 1984 it was a test drive program. People could test drive the PS3, take it home and if they do not like it they can return it in 30 days or not the credit card would be billed automatically. This can be used to move hardware and let uses see the power of the PS3 and most likely they would keep the system then return it. Give them one cool game to play, one good blu-ray movie and a free online game download, to show them the coolness of the system.

• I like the idea of Home as a interface, creating a VR world is fantastic. Five year from now when everyone is coming up with some kind of VR world for there product, everyone will remember the Sony did it first, yes I know there is a world called second life but to integrate it with a product is a first. And it is a interface and not a program that you launch so it is like a real virtual world that it access all of the system.

• good update.. pleeeeeease add MKV support!

• What happened to the firmware update notes describing what the firmware patch was after download? It was nice to know what the update did. On a separate note: nice PS Store update today! The Gundam Demo is cool and nice work on getting the GTA4 trailer up as well. Exclusive stuff like this makes the other fanboys jealous. :P

• Yeah I was going to say that about PS Store too.

I guess our posts are being read =)

• More game Avatars, Need a Hayabusa Avatar!

• You guys are doing a great job, I will echo what 50% of the posts on this page have said and request DivX / Xvid playback.

• I can not wait to get home from work just picked up my copy of Rainbow 6 Vegas at lunch. Next week The Darkness!

• Hey! Good job!
By the way, It would be great to add 7.1Ch support for the next firmware update.

• homy: “The problem is that there is not such tv that can display 1080i natively if the tv is not 1080p. All other tvs scale the 1080i resolution down to their native resolution.”

Unless you’re using a very loose definition of “native resolution”, that’s not true. For 1080i, projection TVs display an even field of 1920×540 pixels, then an odd field of 1920×540, which creates an image that’s legitimately 1920×1080. Nothing is scaled down at all — it’s just that only half the image is updated at one time.

If what you were suggesting were true, then a 1080i signal pre-scaled down to 1920x540p should look exactly the same as the original 1080i signal on the TV. Since I have a scaler than can output 1920x540p, I can tell you with absolute confidence that this isn’t the case. If the 1080i signal is downscaled to 1920x540p, the difference in resolution is immediately obvious, especially on small text.

• Can I just add to the call for proper 5.1 AC3/Dolby Digital bitstream output for Video Files.

Over here in the UK I use my PS3 to watch BBC HD recordings (H264 video + AC3 5.1 audio). The recordings replay fine on the PS3 but the audio is output as 2.0 downsampled from the 5.1, not as a 5.1 Dolby Digital bitstream (as DVDs and BluRays are)

Can this be sorted? It is very annoying!

• Todays PS Store update rocks! I was getting tired of the MLB 07 trailers. Thanks Sony!

• there is no way a download this big is just some codec support and updates to backwards compatibility (unless the entire system is getting scratched) .. i am calling shenannigans on this update … to quote the current mainstream .. its more than meets the eye .. CHUUU CHU CHHAAA CHHHHHAAAAAA

• I would like to note that there are some performance problems on the ps3 when you have a large number of music files (or if your hard drive is almost full I guess, I only have lots of music, but it could also be due to it almost being full) anyways, I have over 5000 songs, and when the ps3 starts up all the icons take longer to load up, and also when I go to the music icon, it takes a long time for it to load everything. I think you guys should make a libary of all the music that is on there with ALL The id3 tag info; Just like PC media players. Also It needs better navigation, maybe an option to search and to instantly go to a certain letter.

• it doesn’t work. total lie! with the 1.82 update I DO NOT have high profile h264 playback on my ps3 :( what did it do then sony??

• self.confessed.cynic

@ dragonnav

Yup, the PS3 is pretty much like a computer in that respect – if you have it at a point where there’s only like 0.5 to 1gb left on the drive, then performance is altered due to the lack of space left for data cache etc (ie – virtual memory or “virtual ram”). At least leave 15% of the HDD free if you don’t want to see any performance hit (that’s 9GB).

Unlike the 360, the PS3 is quite effected by a lack of cache space on the HDD as it is optimised for a HDD being on every system. Hence both the XMB and games seek to use the HDD for a performance boost.

So in general, utilise your PS3’s functionality – you can put the music on any other storage media (like a flash drive or a memory stick / SD card) and put that in your PS3, and play music from them. Another (better) option is to upgrade your PS3’s HDD – just look up the dimensions of the HDD that comes with it and try and get a notebook / laptop hard drive at about the same dimensions. A heap of people are going around with 100+Gb HDDs in their PS3s, and the best part is that it doesn’t void warranty.

So yes, treat your PS3 like a computer – keep a good deal of space on it free so you don’t get any performance hits – or just live with the performance hits you get.

• Good update, just got it. Also, on a rather off note, good PSN update. Keep that up.
