Firmware 1.82 Coming Soon…

Hey everyone, you told us you wanted to hear about updates a few days in advance, so here’s a quick heads up that we have a PS3 firmware update in the works. [UPDATE: it's available today]
Firmware 1.82 is an update that enables the playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) files. As most of you know, these are high quality files that you’ll now be able to play on your PS3. Hopefully this update is moving us closer to the audio playback features many of you commented about in my post the other week. We’re continuing to evaluate and improve things across the board, including PS2 software compatibility. Thanks for all of your support and feedback, keep it coming!

Hello!
I’ll mostly talk about PS3 firmware improvements that could be made by Sony :
PS3 game playing :
- Disable HDCP protection for games so that players can use any LCD screen to play.
Keep HDCP protection active for Blu-Ray movies
PS3 Hardware (if possible) :
- Power saving mode (reduced Cell clock fequencies) while browsing on XMB to reduce Power consuption.
PS3 XMB :
- Wallpaper change (already available on PSP)
Images :
- Bitmap support
Video playback features :
These features allow people to directly play most video files without have to re encode them or having to install Linux on the Hard Drive.
- Support .AVI encoded with x264 codec and MP3/OGG audio
- Support .AVI with XviD codec
Internet browser :
- Better site compatibility, I had issues checking my Yahoo Mail account, many things were not displayed
- New user interface when using a move/keyboard
European Playstation Network :
- It needs to be constantly updated juste like US /JP PSN
- Authorised access to JP/US’s Playstation Network
