1. What game do you have at E3 this year?
The Eye of Judgment

2. Tell us more about your game. What’s the story? What did you do on this game that you couldn’t do on another platform?
First, it uses the next-generation USB camera for PS3, the PlayStation Eye. We’ve combined the camera and real, collectable trading cards, created by Hasbro and its Wizards of the Coast (WotC) subsidiary, to create a completely new concept in trading card games. As you know, Hasbro and WotC are known for the development of Magic: The Gathering, so we’re bringing that heritage to PS3. It is a key component and adds a third dimension to the trading card game genre by materializing animated 3D creatures on screen.

The Eye of Judgment is a tough game to describe, but really a fun game to play, as it is a whole new means of interaction within the trading card genre of games. The cards are embedded with a Cybercode that only PlayStation Eye can read, and once you lay them down on the battle mat the characters come to live and battle in really cool animations on the screen. One major benefit of playing this type of game on PS3 is that you don’t have to count all of the gaming components up when you play your cards; the PS3 does it for you and gives you visual prompts such as when to remove a card or how many cards you should have in your hand.

3. What do you think is the coolest aspect of this game?
The coolest aspect of the game is the utilization of the PLAYSTATION Network to play others online. We are focused on a global launch of this title, so you can challenge players from all over the world, it’s really exciting.

I also like watching the card image come to life and battle against the other creatures. It takes a little bit to learn, but once you do, it is a blast. There will be over 100 different cards available with the booster packs, so you never know what creature is going to be coming at you. You’ll soon know what I mean when I say my Infernal Sciondar Dragon crushed your Verzar Foot Soldier!

4. What game do you most want an hour to sit in front of yourself (besides your own)?
Buzz!……”Party Time”, I’ll probably get most of the answers wrong, but its lots of fun to play with your friends. It’s my kind of game to just sit back and have a good time with, but it brings out my competitive side!

5. How many E3’s does E3 2007 mark for you?
Let’s just say I’ve been there since E3 started and before that I was working the Sony booth at CES.

6. Describe the pre-2007 E3 experience in five words or less.
Breeze, cake walk, relaxing..HA!!!

7. Most over used phrase or expression during E3 season.
This title or that title is the Game of the Year!

8. You are asked to make suggestions for an E3 survival kit- what three items HAVE to be included?
Energy Bar, water and a masseuse. If not a masseuse. I always have Advil in my pocket during the show as well.

9. What advice would you have for someone who has never experienced E3?
Wear comfortable shoes and get as much rest as possible before E3 starts, because once it’s going it’s non-stop for 4 days straight!

10. What’s your favorite part about developing games for a living?
My favorite part about developing games is hearing comments from fans. The folks who read this blog. We take them into consideration when making the next project, and it’s really nice to know you’ve delivered something to the public that they enjoy playing.

  • This is one of the most innovative games that ive seen! Nobody has never done a game like this one. Combining real trade cards to a console game, awesome. In Eye of judgement you truly can see what your doing, all the attacks and stuff.
Ive never found game or any use to eye camera but now i do when eye of judgement comes to stores! I used to play trading card games as a kid but then i started to play on the consoles, but this is those two combined which makes it even better =D.

    @dreamkin
On online you have to register all the cards that you will be using on the game. theres a specific amount of the cards per a game. I dunno how will it prevent the player to look any card on the deck, maybe you cards must be registered in the order that you deck is? so it counts what cards you have and can use…dunno. @Felice help us and tell how will you exactly prevent all kind of cheating in the game?

  • Something tells me this is going to be huge, and we don’t know it yet. I love the idea, just hope that it isn’t repetitive

  • I love the idea, this will be very popular i think

  • Really cool and innovative game

  • This is definitely one of my favorite titles and the “New and Innovative” category! I’ve been keeping an eye on this since it’s first showing and I’m so excited that it’s almost here! Have you thought about putting characters from other games in this? Like maybe a Final Fantasy booster pack, or Ratchet and Clank? What I’d love to have is the fire-breathing Rubber Ducky card. =P Thank for taking the time to talk to us!

  • That game looks so great! I can’t wait to play it…

Is the ‘PS3 Eye’ bundled together with the game?
Is it possible to play it against a computer-controlled enemy?
Will there be any cards that will be hard to find?
Is there going to be a YuGiOh game? (I guess it would work almost the same as this game…)

  • ahhh…now i smell the ps3 innovation coming forth just like the good ole days…making new DIFFERENT games…not the 50 Gears of Wars/Halo clones. Seriously…too many FPS lately

  • good write up. this game will be interesting and it will probably be the first card game i pick up since the original magic came out.

  • I like the Idea of teaming up with Wizard of Coasts all the stores can sell the cards and they have been doing the card business a long time. Great work Sony on letting WOC/Hasbro do the cards a very smart choice.

  • Great read, this is one I’m looking foward to. Strategy card games, especially innovative ones like this one are scarce. Last card game I was really into was Tetra Master. Wish SE would throw that up in the psn store, wishful thinking though.

  • I still wondering how cheating will be stopped,,other then that its a must buy.

  • I dont know about the rest of the guys, but to me, this is next gen gaming. Im not a card gaming type of gamer, but this looks awsome. It would be kind of cool if they can make it later were people could do their own monsters. Earn points to upgrade it and distribute powers or what not, only for friendly matches though. Im really looking foward to this title.

  • All these comments and no response from the developer(s). How strange. Well at any rate this game looks fascinating and the technique has a ton of possibilities.

  • yeah this is something worth getting looking foward to this game.

  • My comment is just going to get buried in the heap, but I REALLY HOPE THAT THIS GAME DOES NOT HAVE an UNFAIR balance for those that can buy lots of cards and pay crack-rock prices for “rare” cards on ebay. I think this would be better if it were NOT A BLIND PURCHASE GAME.

I don’t see that it is for sure.. but if it is. I for one am out.

  • As many of the previous posters have asked, I think the main concern that has yet to be addressed is whether or not there is a system in place to prevent cheating online. Is there no way for EoJ to keep track of the specific cards in a players hand for them?

  • Will it work online, with all that cheaters out there. Won’t they will pick out the cards out of their deck that come in handy at that moment?

  • I can’t wait for lair, Gta, and haze in future will there be demos of these games on ps store.

  • you guys might want to think about making some type of show or movie about the card game.

this will introduce people to the game universe and generate interest.

hey it worked for yugioh (i know the games are nothing alike though)

  • The game looks cool, I wish I were into card games and crap like that, perhaps this will somehow bring Pokemon into the frey. Just wondering out loud.

  • I never liked card games (Magic: Gathering, Pokemons) but this game changed my mind :)

  • I’m actually a little sad that Pokemon is Nintendo. I was thinking about how cool it would be to bring the popular Pokemon card game to the PS Eye lol.

My expectations for the Eye of Judgement is high, I’m looking forward to hearing more about it :)

  • This should be an awesome game. I didn’t buy into the Eyetoy on the PS2, but this game has already sold me so I’ll be getting it. Awesome concept guys, and I’m looking forward to seeing how well you exectued!

  • this game looks really awsome but the price point is what i’m really worried
    about

  • This game is a definite must buy for me. I’m looking forward to it very much.

  • I’m dreading the release of this game because it looks interesting enough to get me to buy it and as far as i can tell.. card games are as addictive and expensive as 10 kinds of crack.

  • I have to admit, I’m secretly looking forward to this game. I used to be extremely addicted to Wizards’ first game, MtG…

This could be an extremely expensive way to ooze money out of every orifice; if it is, like MtG, I’ll probably end up resenting it. :/

  • This time make loading times bit faster, MotorsStorm was just slow

  • MotorStorm rules!

    Ifrit33 here =P
