High Velocity Bowling
Hi everyone. This is PJ, and I’m a senior producer at SCEA San Diego. There has been a ton of talk about the origins of High Velocity Bowling since the title was shown at Gamer’s Day in May. We didn’t get a whole lot of coverage during the event, due to all of the other amazing games that were shown, and High Velocity Bowling kind of got grouped with the other PlayStation Network games. It’s a pretty common misconception that High Velocity Bowling is Sony’s “answer” to Wii Sports Bowling. We came up with the idea of using the SIXAXIS controller for bowling on August 23rd, 2006 – I know the exact date because it was my birthday…Eddy Cramm (who is a Sr. Designer on MLB ‘07) and I had taken the day off to get a couple rounds of golf in, a rare luxury these days. Out on the course, we talked about using the controller as a bowling interface (we both carry 200+ averages in our current bowling league) and both loved the idea. He sent a text message to our studio director that night and my team (small, but dedicated) started work on it the next day. While we weren’t surprised by the inclusion of bowling in Wii Sports a month later, we knew that we were taking it a step further once that game launched. I know I’m looking forward to the launch of High Velocity Bowling and hope you all like the ladder/progression/unlocking mechanic that we’re going with.

Looks like fun. I might finally be able to sway the wife into playing. That is what PS3 really needs. something to entice the casual gamer, something quick and fun…

BUT please!!!!!!!!!! please please please get the controls right. would it be feasable to make a new control with different design to take advantage of such games with the SIXAXIS? (Not like the Wii, i hate that things control!)

Keep up the good work…

Just downloaded the “Go! Puzzle” demo, and I have one question: WHY DON’T THESE GAMES SUPPORT CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS?

“Go! Puzzle” is a decent, cheap means of getting a high-def. puzzle fix; however, with the omission of the ability to use your own tunes as background music, I’m no longer interested.

Isn’t the PS3 supposed to be a high-end multimedia device? So why aren’t features like custom soundtracks put to use? *SIGH*

looks fun! Where do I make requests for PS1 games going to PS3/PSP? Anyway. How about Legacy of Kain (the original ) with better load times. Final Fantasy 7,8 and 9. Or how about some Dreamcast Games like Soul Caliber and Marvel vs Capcom. Or Atari Jaguars Alien vs Predator (vs Space Marine for anyone that actually played it)

This is great, I am a real life bowler, who has been bowling since I was 4 years of age, and I honestly see that HVB and SIXAXIS, will help the serious bowlers improve swing and approach skills. So I will definitely be happy to own this.

Is there a release date for the game, I was hoping that it would come in June, but no such luck.

IGN had this for June (Let be clear, I know that the date is not official, however, I did hope that it was in June)

Link to that: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/789/789212p1.html

Is there some sort of time frame that can be given ?

Enough with the motion-sensing gimick.. That would require using the PS3 controller… (shudders). Why not just make a good quality game that doesn’t rely on Wii controls?
