A New Poll, We Need Your Help
+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media
We’re wrapping up our reader poll today. It’s clear that Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Warhawk are highly anticipated games this year, our poll garnered 10,000+ votes! Very impressive. Over the next few weeks, we’ll have the developers who are working on these titles chime in here to talk about them as part of our Inside The Developers Studio series. More to come, but now, on to our next poll…
Over the last few weeks we’ve been receiving and reading a ton of your ideas and thoughts about what sort of features we should be adding to this blog to make it better. We have our own thoughts of course, but given this blog is about you guys and in the spirit of this week’s July 4th holiday, we figured we’ll just put it to a good ol’ fashion vote.
Starting today, on this blog’s sidebar —> vote for the feature(s) you would *most* like to see incorporated here over the next few weeks and we’ll do all that we can to oblige. Also, feel free to leave us suggestions in the comments too — all things will be considered. We know this blog needs some fine tuning, with your help we’ll get it there.

A special column called Center for Rumor Clarification. Do it like Centers for Disease Control.
Rumor = “higher expectation and bigger disappointment”, new PSP rumor is a example - it stopped some people to buy it . You need more speed reaction and do more prevention.

I’m surprised that the idea of a desktop widget didn’t get more votes- surprised and disappointed. I so would love to see that implemented so that I could get the blog at a glance. My second choice was the e-mail notifications since I really would like to know poste haste when there’s new information. Maybe someday…

PLEASE BRING E3 COVERAGE FOR THE PSN AND THIS BLOG

Regret | July 2nd, 2007 at 3:24 pm
As I know, x360 will have E3 coverage on Live. We (PS3 owners) should too on PSN.

turstkill | July 2nd, 2007 at 3:33 pm
Would like to see live e3 coverage and a widget that had the most current blog posts AND wallpapers/screens. Maybe a live chat area where we could talk with different dev’s?

Yes finally you guys hearing my request for High-Res screenshots. We should at least get them in the resolution of the game. This will be great to download directly to the PS3 and be able to view them on the big screen. No other game sites provide screenshots in high-res. It is only logical that with the advent of HD gaming the screenshots should be provided in HD resolution.
Thanks you Patrick, keep up the great work.

@Jeigh:
Desktop widget? Bah. I use Firefox’s RSS feed bookmarks instead. It’s just a simple link that sits in the bar at the top, anytime I want to see what’s new I click it and it unfolds the rss links. Very elegant.

I like it just the way it is. Though email updates would be good, because my email RSS feeds works better and faster than the Blog RSS feed.

definitely the Hi-Res Screenshots…
+ Ranking of posts will be great too

is there a Chance that, the E3 press conference will be available in the PLAYSTATION Store?

jackrabbit75 | July 2nd, 2007 at 4:03 pm
Definately need as much info about E3 as possible. Pictures, videos, interviews… or how about a live streaming feed for all of us outsiders to see what goes on in there.
113
Herby | July 2nd, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Amazingly there already is a Flickr photostream for this blog, that has High-Res screenshots. I hope you guys don’t get rid of the Photostream now that it is setup. But being able to download the High-Res screenshots from here would be awesome too and is what I really wanted.

I would have checked the box for downloadable videos had it been there. Prehaps allowing us to edit and preview our posts would be nice too.
Oh, and on a separate note, please get some E3 content to us on the PSN during the week. A demo or two or more, lots of trailers of the upcoming games and some developer interviews would be smashing.
115
the_culture | July 2nd, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I understand everyone wanting E3 coverage either here or at the Store. But that won’t happen… at least not right away.
For some reason, all the “pay-for-news” sites and mags (like GameSpot, IGN, EGM, Game Informer, etc.) will get the news and updates first. This may not be a big deal, but when you want to view the latest ratchet & Clank vid in HD, you’ll have to be a paid subscriber to GameSpot or IGN.
We’ve already paid big $$$ for our Sony machines, games, accessories; yet now we have to pay these other sites and mags for exclusive footage and updates? Sony should be offering these things to us first, not last.
So my vote is for Sony to offer us loyal gamers exclusives BEFORE those other sites and mags get it, not after.

There should be a previous posts button on the bottom of the blog. I wish I could go back in time to read the original post.

I’d like to see some more intimate ineraction with the developers. Perhaps a few features in which we the users interview them with our own questions.
You could give us a couple of day’s notice and put a small form on the side of the page, with something like “Ask Jaffe” on it. People would be free to fill in a question (one per account), and you guys could forward the best onto the man himself, who’d make a blog post answering them, with the usual room for follow-up that’s here already.
119
androvsky | July 2nd, 2007 at 5:13 pm
None of the extra features listed in the poll interest me, all I care about is content of posts. I’d especially like some solid answers to some long-standing questions that don’t appear to have an official stance by Sony, all we have is rumor and innuendo.
1. Will there ever be avi playback? I want to know if I should continue converting the videos I have currently, or work on helping add transcoding support to existing open-source media servers.
2. Will the RSX ever be available in linux? If the answer is no, I don’t mind spending some time in making opengl work with the Cell. If the answer is yes, I don’t want to waste my time.

dear sony,
please add one thing, a place to login to your account and change your password, or link the accounts on the blog with the playstation.com websites. lastly, how about an “other” selection in all of your poles, i dont like any of the choices you posted on any of the two polls, first one would have to be lair, and it wasnt a choice.

@85
You know, I fear that Peter Moore will show up with a Parasite Eve tattoo on his back or something…
…It gives me the creeps, urgh.
But like #85 said, give us some rumor control. Especially if it can put wind into the PS3.

How about a weekly podcast! Many people are excited about this blog. Mostly because it humanizes Sony. Sony’s PlayStation sector is notorious for it’s secrecy and unwillingness to express itself to it’s legion of fans. In the short time that this Blog has been available, a lot of information has been revealed. Even a bit of insight into the inner workings of game development. Podcasting is at it’s most popular now in the gaming scene. Some of my faves are OLR and of course the 1UP Show. I think Sony can benefit greatly by producing a show where focus is strictly on the PlayStation format. Have your developers take the time to talk about their newest games. Discuss what gamers are asking for. I know I’d listen up. Thanks again for the Blog. Now, how ’bout a Home invite?

Psyvariar | July 2nd, 2007 at 7:27 pm
I’d like to see a weekly featured video posted on this blog, highlighting something noteworthy each week from PS3/PSP/PS2 new releases, and/or upcoming future lineup.
And 100% compatibility with the PlayStation 3 Web Browser, for all embedded videos (i.e. only use PS3-compatible Flash video players).

Omen_20 | July 2nd, 2007 at 7:51 pm
I would make this blog an icon on Network for PSP and PS3. Then put up polls after every firmware update to see whats the most wanted feature next. Then just give us the most wanted features in order. By putting the Blog on the XMB you enable all users with a net connection to make their opinion known. Over the life of this generation the polls could reach well over millions of votes. Think of only a percentage of the PS2 audience voted on the features they wanted.
By fixing things people want fixed you make the PS3 perfect in the fan’s eyes. Then every added feature will just be a bonus. Something they love but didnt know they wanted. But you should fix everything first. Most people dont care how long it takes for a firmware to come out as long as the fix is something they care about. By fixing things they dont care about it makes people think your waisting your time.

EvoAnubis | July 2nd, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Okay, about all the posts about Hi-Def videos . . . why would i want them here if I can just get them on PSN? Waste. Of. Time.
Now, what Omen_20 is talking about sounds like a good idea. Hell, the only reason I knew about this blog is because it was on joystiq. If you want the opinion of the PS3 owners, it’s be better to do what Omen is talking about.

Something else I just thought of; why not have video interviews with the developers as downloadable videos off of the PS Store?

Phospho | July 2nd, 2007 at 8:38 pm
how about a poll about what classic PS1 games we want on the PSN? or PS2?
132
Calleh | July 2nd, 2007 at 9:39 pm
I second the PS1 games idea. Dunno about PS2 since the machine is now as outdated as the Commodore. Seriously what is Playstation 3 without the previous strictly Playstation titles renewed. I know I’m not in anyway interested in going out to buy multiported titles that don’t take full advantage of the PS3 hardware. Maybe such a poll would shed some light on what the consumer actually wants.

What about some updates regarding special events you guys are doing to promote the ps3? E3 WINK-WINK!!! Bring out Metal Gear Solid 4 demo or something. By the way, why not try to make some more ps1 classics ported onto the psp and ps3. Suggestions: Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid, Xenogears, Castlevania: Symphony of the night (how come xbox live got that game? that was a ps1 exclusive!!!!!!

I think you’re on the right track for the blog. You’ve set the tone well and the other bells and whistles aren’t going to substantially change who reads this or how much. What I do think you need is a way for us, your active Sony userbase to give legitimate feedback. Responding to posts is fine, but how about when we want to volunteer information. For example, I’ve been wanting to get this off my chest for a while: get Bluetooth into the PSP slim (or whatever the often denied redesign is called).
Here’s my argument, you went with Bluetooth on the PS3 but you really need to get some convergence on your standards. Finally the PSP and PS3 have started to work together, but frankly no one is getting invested in Bluetooth accessories, and until they do the feature is a lemon on the PS3. If you could link a headset wirelessly to the new PSP, that would both encourage people to invest in the Bluetooth standard and make the PSP so much more accessible when on the road. Frankly, the speakers aren’t designed to be heard over common street/bus/subway noise so there might as well be no audio. The wires for a standard set of headphones make the PSP a pain to carry. Also, if the PSP slim had Bluetooth support, and wifi, IP telephony would be practically built in. Win-Win-Win. I imagine it is too late to license this into the redesign now, but hey, you sprung SixAxis on us in a short time frame, suprise us again!

I need more Killzone II info. The PS3 is an awesoe machine ~ we need AWESOME games and a kick a$$ network to play it on. The PSN is outstanding, but the lack of full XMB acess in-game still makes it feel a little archaic. Please implement a way to play PS2 online games on the PS3 even though there is no PS2 network config. loaded onto the PS3. If I want to play KILLZONE I the best experience is still on the PS2 and it shouldn’t be that way. Oh, and btw - where is CEllius and what are they working on if anything? I’ve been playing Ace Combat for years and to lose it to the 360 is almost sacrilege. C’mon guys I have faith, but let’s start acting more like SONY (setting the tone) and do more trend setting than reacting.
P.S. - will there be an update which allows more frinds to be added onto individual PSN accounts? Right now I’ve had to set up apx. 4 accounts just to fit in all of my friends. A fix for this would be great. C’mon SNE I know you guys are out there ~ Let’s WIN THIS WAR DAMMIT! =]
cheers

I would love to see a game give-away on release dates. Maybe a competition or just a commenter raffle.
Also the PS3 firmware updates need alot more attention, info, and description. Many friends of mine have little to no idea about some of the changes the patches are making. Maybe a little working-mans whitepaper to try and explain some of the features and changes?
Embedded screens and videos?
Just some ideas that I’ve thought about.

im loving th inside developers blogs. Keep them coming. Also we do need info on Killzone 2, some people dont think the video shown at E3 2005 is reall. I do believe that those graphics can be accomplished. But we need more hype for it to draw away from HALO 3.
