Firmware 1.90 Coming Soon

903 0

UPDATE: The Firmware 1.90 update is available now; I’ve also included an update below that addresses some of your comments here.

Firmware 1.90 brings with it several new features, many of which readers of this blog have requested – I’m happy to report.

Customization is one new feature: you can now personalize the wallpaper on your XMB with a photo. This was one of the top three requests we received via the blog’s contact form. When viewing a photo, simply bring up the options screen by pressing the triangle button and selecting “set as wallpaper” from the options displayed. Additionally, you can now change the order of the games displayed under the game icon on the XMB.

Another new feature focuses on added communication elements: When you’re sending messages to friends on PLAYSTATION Network, you can now use emoticons. We’ve added a bunch of emoticons that can be easily accessed from the virtual keyboard. Also, another cool addition is, when an avatar is displayed during voice/video chat, the avatar will move in response to audio.

Finally, on the more technical side, you can now play AVCHD videos saved on a Memory Stick or digital video camera, and we’ve added the ability to upscale audio CD output from your PS3. Now, there are two requirements for this feature: the device you’re outputting to must support a sampling frequency of 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz, and your PS3 must be connected to that device with an HDMI cable or digital optical cable.

Oh, and one more thing: you can now eject discs using your controller by selecting “Eject Disc” in the options menu after you push the PS button.

Several other minor options will be included in 1.90 including a few new display options that will allow you to adjust your display while playing PlayStation, PlayStation2 and Blu-ray movies.

We’re working on additional features for our next update that will incorporate more of your feedback, so as always thanks for all of your support, and please keep those suggestions coming!

[UPDATE]
The link on the SCEA website is now live, you can get the full info on firmware 1.90 here. Also, I noticed a lot of your comments were directly related to accessing XMB features in-game. We understand this is something you want and we are working on it. For the sake of keeping all the comments below on topic, please understand that we hear this request and are working toward a solution. When I have some more info to share on this, know that I will do so here on this blog.

Now, with all of that said, thanks for the feedback. I decided to address some of the consistent comments in the body of this post instead of within the comments. One thing you have noticed is that under sorting your games, when you sort by creation date, it sorts by the date you downloaded the content. Sorting videos is done by the date that the videos were added to your hard drive. You can also ‘go-to’ a specific time in any of the videos on your HDD, by hitting triangle and then selecting the specific time from the clock at the bottom.

Something a few of you have noticed as well is that you don’t need to have the SIXAXIS controller connected to PS3 through the USB cable anymore to complete the update, which I know is something some of you were asking for.

  • Ok well we got one thing…a response and acknowledgment that in game xmb is being worked on….ok thats 2 things

THANK YOU…see it wasnt that hard was it??

ONLY THING FELLOW GAMERS…dont get too happy!!!…it’s “being worked on” look what happened when HOME was “being worked on”

    @assassin

dont even think it’s going to be 1.91…you heard the man!

“please understand that we hear this request and are working toward a solution.”

that to me says there are issues and we dont know how to fix it!!

OH and ERIC OR WHOEVER YOU ARE THAT UPDATED….A REALLY SIMPLE QUESTION FOR YOU!!!

Why release the ability ON THE PS3 to change video settings ON PS/PS2/BLU RAY AND NOT FOR THE PS3 ITSELF??????????????????????????????????????????????

THAT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AT ALL IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM….WHO’S BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS???

  • Sony arbeitet bereits an IN-Game XMB

[…] erschienen, nun gibt es schon die nächsten Meldungen für eines der kommenden Updates. Im offiziellen Playstation Blog gab es etliche Kommentare und Meinungen zum aktuellen Update. An dieser Stelle ist Sony […]

  • Glad to know you guys are working on the in-game XMB. Hopefully you won’t be bothered as much about it (from me at least).

Good job on the 1.9 update again, but I just wanted to point out an ongoing glitch that some PS3forums members (and I’m sure others) that we’ve run into.

Every now and then, upon quitting the Folding@home application, the system will turn off and then turn back on instead of quitting straight to the XMB. Just thought it was something you guys should know about.

  • Please Sony, ADD support for DVIX and XVID video files! or at the very least SELL the codec option on the PSN. Thank you/

  • In the next update please expand AVCHD support a bit more and allow the PS3 to play both PAL (50 frames) and NTSC (60 frames) 1080i created AVCHD footage. I want to be able to send family vids from my Sony HDR-SR7 PAL camcorder to friends and family in the US to play on their PS3.
Surely the all powerful CELL can fix the 10Hz difference on the fly?

  • SONY please fix the scaling problem for those of us without the ability to use 720p in HD. Like many people, I only own a HDTV that has 480i/p & 1080i. Why is it that Sony’s own games frequently use 720p only. I just downloaded Heavenly Sword and found that it is the same as most other Sony-made titles and displays HD exclusively in 720p.

Until this problem is resolved, the PS3 will never be complete. Also, it would be nice if we could place our demos and other downloaded games into subfolders.

  • Heya !

I dunno if you actually read these things, but if you did, i may have some ideas:

    1) In game notifications
To have a little pop-up box saying that a friend is online, or that a friend is playing the same game online, why dont you join in? Also to be able to send messages

    2) Award System
To have a reward system that users can unlock special awards, might also be able to talk to publishers and if the user can get all the awards for that game, possably treat the user with a new map-pack free of charge, or a new car etc. Also, for other users to be able to view your awards within HOME at your house.

    3) In game XMB
well, i dont think i need to say much more :P

    4) universal friends list
would be really cool if my friends list can be universal

    5) TV
i herd a romour about a TV addon, if it was to be true, it would be quite cool using my PS3 as a PVR, i can now play my PS3 while not missing my soaps :P

    6) A website that can be accesed from the PC or a special ‘Kiosk’ from within home where i can search for other users with the same games, with the same amount of award points so i can tell if the user will be too hard, too easy, or just right

    7) Some more exclusives
Where have all our exclusives gone ?

    8) Bluetooth headset as standard
i think if you were to throw in a bluetooth headset with every PS3, users would be more likely to use it, games are totally diffrent when i can talk to other users.

Well, thats all i can really think of at the moment, im sure their are some that other users might like to see.

    Best of luck,
    Terry

  • The firmware updates are addressing a lot of flaws but here is my comprehensive list of things that need to change with regards to the PS3 hardware by this Christmas.

    – Rumble being introduced to the SixAxis controller in a timely fashion, with all of this year’s major PS3 and PSN releases supporting it, or retroactively gaining support through downloadable updates

    – Onboard video scaling of ps3 games, so that regardless of what native resolutions a game supports, the ps3 can render any game at 480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p. The Xbox 360 can do this effortlessly and from what I’ve been told, the PS3 DOES have a scaler chip. It’s about time this is utilized.

    – In game XMB access IS HUGE. 360 owners can get to their dashboards from in game, why cant PS3 owners, especially when their system is more powerful? Not only is this essential for custom soundtracks, it will also help us manage our friends list during a game and better enable social networking, manage background downloads from the PS Store, etc.

    – Better communication with the friends list is a must. Cross-game invites and game invites from different games HAVE to be enabled. In game XMB access also helps with this. With the 360, this is painless. On the ps3, it is decidedly more difficult. This has to be streamlined and made more effective. Seamless voice chat, a universal friends list, game invite notifications, and being able to see what game(s) your friends have been playing is a HUGE necessity.

    – If we can change the background image of the XMB, can we also tinker with the start-up sound that our ps3’s make? I’d love for my ps3 to make a grand entrance into my living room with a thunderous anthem, instead of the smooth but subtle opera theme.

    – Expand media compatibility and settings customization options. I’d love to be able to play more types of videos, especially AVI, WMV and Quicktime.

    – Better access to the active download list, whether game demos or trailers or whatever is being downloaded. This will have to be improved drastically if Sony wants to sell movies and tv shows to us in the future.

    – There has to be some way to be able to sync a wireless controller with the ps3 without having to annoyingly connect a mini USB cable between the controller and the ps3 every time. This is very very annoying and should be fixed via firmware update.

    – More content on the PS Store. More PS1 games. More demos. There are almost 100 free demos on XBL Marketplace. The PS Store should have just as many.

Hopefully all of this is addressed very soon. By the one year anniversary of the PS3, all of these issues should be resolved and Home should be launched, so we will be finished with having gone through these growing pains/things the console should have had since launch, and can instead focus on brand new unexpected functionality that can surprise and delight us.

  • sony
    idont care about update
    icare about the game
    we need mor game sony
    plz

  • Might as well get in my wishlist here since everyone is beating the in-game XMB dead horse (thank you Mr. Lempel btw for posting a response):

    – “Sony Instant Messenger” client for PC/Mac, a way to IM friends while away from your PS3.
    – Search Engine for friends lists (First/Last Name, Email, PSN Nickname, Location perhaps)
    – Better Flash support in Web Browser
    – POP3/IMAP client (:
    – More codecs/formats for DLNA client
    – PSX Final Fantasy Games in PSN Store
    – “GamerCard” equivalent that lists trophies in Home and does a compare to yours like the 360
    – SIXAXIS calibration for those of us who don’t exactly hold our controller exactly upright (:
    – XMB services such as news/weather/etc updates (via RSS perhaps?)
    – Blogging in Home via purchasable terminal you can place in your house (small recurring service fee for hosting?)
    – Option to start from Home
    – XMB Icon skinning
    – XMB Summarized list of new releases in PSN without entering store
    – Future PS3 SKU bundled with headset

Yeah ambitious I know, I say don’t just match the competition, blow it away.

  • “that to me says there are issues and we dont know how to fix it!!” … of course there are issues: system resources, development, interface design, integration, quality assurance. Do you honestly think software development is a walk in the park?

People are being very impatient downright ridiculous on their demands of getting everything at once. Some don’t seem to realize that software development is very difficult. Commercial software development is even more so.

It’s not “mass production” like building 10 houses. You’re doing creative work on a platform with LIMITED resources and getting it right takes smart people with time and money.

You also need to consider how much effort goes into actually system testing even a simplest feature to make sure it doesn’t break anything else.

I’d rather get tried and tested quality updates with smaller increments gradually than a bloated update, which has a potential negative impact on the system.

2.0 is likely on the way and it’s being hopefully rigorously tested already… :)

  • I still think there should be an option to disable tooltips.

I also think the icon for “set image as wallpaper” should be the same as the icon in the settings|theme menu where you set the wallpaper on/off.

The current icon looks too much like the “make new thumbnail for video”-icon, which it has nothing to do with; using the settings|theme-icon would associate the function better with what it does. This is important because the (^) menu when viewing photos is getting more populated with icons for features.

Of course the Sony XMB team is already aware of this — I just thought perhaps you’d like to know =)

  • I live in europe and have the PS3 with emulated backward compability.

    My top 3 list:
    1. DivX, Xvid with AC3 Sound
    2. Final Fantasy VII,X and XII fully working
    3. Media Library

  • Is it possible to add the ability to output sound via HDMI and TOSLink simultaneously to the next firmware release.

  • UMICH_Egypt_Alliance_Productions

    @Everyone.

Yes, you can now play AVI encoded Videos on your PS3. This link shows the current video formats that are supported by the PS3 now.

  • Hey, I think you Guys are doing a really good job. Love all the new features keep them coming. I thought rather than critisize I would brainstorm and come up with some ideas for future firmware releases, some that perhaps were not thought of.

    1. I was think that you should add partial downloading, so if the connection failed you didn;t have to restart the download from the start.
    2. What about reducing the size of downloads by using differential downloads.
    3. How about IPTV like Joost or one of the other IPTV. I believe Sony has some partnership in one of them.
    4. Music Downloads, why not make Sony BMG’s music availalbe for download, both Musiv video and music.
    5. Can we get Games to be ordered by whatever we want, if we want to change the order could we have a move-up/move-down button (folders would be better)
    6. How about upgrading the browser, perhaps tab browsing, and later releases of flash and compatibility with web technologies.
    7. Local caching of some of the Playstation store graphics, it would be good if things were cached a bit more so that we didn;t have to down load them everytime we went into the store. By Storing the images locally on the harddrive you could speed up the store.
    8. How about displaying the time when the PS button is pressed
    9. If a keyboard is connected being able to click the “a” or “b” etc button and going to the start of the a’s in the music or image library.
    10. Utilisation of keyboard and mouse in games if attached.
    11. Downloadable Screen savers
    12. RSS feed compatibility in Internet browser.
    13. Ability to re-run the music finder on music already loaded to PS3, I loaded a lot of music before I had the internet connected and now can’t get the auto CD titles and images etc

Anyway Keep up the great work!

    :)

  • I think Sony has done a pretty good job so far but there is one main problem that I fell Sony hasn’t been addressing well.

Many of us purchased the PS3 not just for gaming but to use as a media center as Sony advertised. I can’t tell you how old it gets having my laptop sitting in the middle of the living room every day taking up space because my family wants to look stuff up on the internet. The solution, use the PS3 as Sony envisioned so that we can banish the laptops to the office. Now comes the problem, Sony’s web capabilities are so out of date that half of the items my family wants to look at on the web do not work in the Sony browser.

Streaming radio, many flash applications, etc, simply do not run because Sony’s web browser is out of date and does not have the capabilities of Firefox or Windows Internet Explorer. No one in my family really bothers surfing the web on the PS3 anymore since we know it most likely won’t work anyways. In addition, Bluetooth keyboards have to interface to the PS3 through a USB to Bluetooth adapter that you have to plug into a USB port instead of using the native PS3 Bluetooth capabilities. Yes you could use a RF wireless keyboard but then you still have an adapter plugged into the front of the PS3 and the longer range of Bluetooth really makes it the better choice for living rooms anyways.

Please Sony, if you’re going to advertise your PS3 to the public as a media center then make sure that it has the capabilities to do so. At least make sure that your web browser is robust enough to be useful. Until then I’m stuck with laptops on my coffee table and will recommend that my friends wait to purchase a PS3 until you’ve got better support.

  • “Yes, you can now play AVI encoded Videos on your PS3.”

AVI is not a codec, but an encapsulation format. As stated, the PS3 supported data inside AVI is currently limited to:
    # – Motion JPEG (Linear PCM)
    # – Motion JPEG (μ-Law)

It would be great if there would actually be a way to detect which media streams are stored inside a given package and play them accordingly.

I’ve got some transport stream files with Dolby digital audio in them which are but PS3 just doesn’t play the audio because it’s in a “wrong package” (not AVCHD). Afaik Dolby Digital is a supported format in a regular transport stream as well.

PLEASE enable bitstream audio from XMB. Dolby Digital 5.1 is still being downconverted to stereo apparently…

  • I think this was a great update. I too would like to see the things that everybody else is mentioning (In-Game XMB and Playlists).

A few other things would be:

Allow us to create a folder for demos and other stuff.

    Change our “Buddy” avatar.

  • Good update, all that’s missing is a “Resume” function for DVD’s and BD’s. This is a very basic function for a DVD player and would make the PS3 much more complete.

  • Umm, PS3 already has a resume function :)
If you stop your playback (exit to XMB) and play it again -> it resumes from where you left.

  • Hey I just wanted to piggy back on what jds9775 was talking about. I think that the browser is so obsolete I bearly use it anymore. It is ashame that the PS3 is so under utilizied on all levels. But whats more, it is not even the browser that is disappointing, but it is the enability to play various form of AVI formats. Thats totally disappointing because that means you have to convert AVI files (which cost money to do) to use the DLNA function. That being said, the PS3 is still fun. I’m still a fan because I just don’t think Sony is going to abandon the need for these functions, and PS3 has the best diversity of games. It is just taking soooooo long to update the PS3 OS, but I’m waiting.

  • somethings that i would like to see in the next firmware update

    1. XMB in-game!! It would be the best thing ever to listen to my music while i play my PS3 games.
    2. Being able to sort my music in your own custom folders, i.e. (My Favorites, Rock, etc.)
    3. Having some sort of calendar, (to organize events and to mark when certain online tournaments are being held, or to mark when demos are going to be available on PSN, and it would be even better if you would be able to somehow program your PS3 to AUTOMATICALLY download demos once they are available through this calendar feature.)
    4. When you push the PS button, i would like to see the time and date somewhere on the menu that comes up.
    5. To further better the wallpaper feature on the newest update, it would be great to somehow have music play automatically when you log-in. Also, if you were able to have a Video (saved into your hard-drive) play as the wallpaper when you turn on the PS3.

These are the TOP 5 picks for the newest firmware update and if anybody else agrees with me, please let yourself be heard.

  • _______TO EVERYONE AT SONY_________

I think we need a seprate Room For..

    >- Complants — Ideas -MY ComplantMy IDEA

  • We need NOW SONY a couple of things

    1) In game custom sountracks
    2) The PS3 should work better with my IPod much better please! and I want to be able to se my playlists without having to browse the whole ipod. the PS3 should be able to recognize better the information in the ipod,
    3) We need more games please More games
    4) We need you to make up your minds and get your act toghether, with the pricing and your strategie.

  • Well in-game xmb would be nice but my other request would have to be even more video format support like .avi or maybe even .mkv. Is dvi supported or is that in the works? I love the constant updates, keep up the good work.

  • BACKGROUND DOWNLOAD IS GONE!!!! AT LEAST WHILE PLAYING DEMOS!!!!!
On the previous firmware i could play all the demos i had and while waiting several hours(literally!!!) for the download to finish (i.e. get a high score on NG Sigma or GTHD) now i have to leave the console to finish so i can do something else while waiting I would be nice if the download is done while playing a game or watching a movie, and one more thing why can`t you recover a demo or unfinished video if you run out of light( electricity) you have to start all over even if you “resume” the task you end up with a corrupted file(this ocurred to me twice)

Keep up the good work, greetings from mexico.

  • In the future, it would be really cool to have a random wallpaper feature. I’m sure someone probably already mentioned it.
Like maybe we can store all of our wallpapers in a folder and everytime we turn on our PS3 or every XX amount of minutes, it would randomly select a wallpaper from that pool.

    That would seriously rock!!!

  • I agree with a few others above. I have been waiting and would love, just to be able to change the existing background’s colors. I guess like you can on your PSP.

ie: Have the background black and the wavy, somewhat twirling thingy red.

Make sense? If not, sorry. It’s way past my bedtime.

  • i think the guys at scea are doin a good job
thanks for listenin 2 our requests, now for the next firmware i think it would b a good idea for in game xmb functions, custom in game music, and the ability to use limewire to download songs and stuff,
also a virtual calander with all the tourneys and happenings wouldnt be so bad and when is 2.0 coming out, cant wait 2 play home and little big planet

  • Hi guys ! My first comment here I hope it won’t get completely ignored.

Thanks a lot for the update.

I just noticed the XMB icons and text are almonst invisible while using a bright wallpaper such as the heavenly sword one.. A nice new feature would be the ability to change the XMB’s font… now it’s white it would be cool if we could change it to blue or some other color.

Something else, which I found in the PS forums, The ability for my PS3 to turn on(from stand by) and play music… pretty much like an alarm clock.

I would also like to have AVI playback.

And I think it is impossible to connect the hard drive to a computer and then put it in the ps3 with new files… any chance you guys can make that work ? it would get file transfers a lot easier than using a memory stick…

  • @JayTeeOliver,

The Calendar would be a great add-on to the XMB or if it was somehow added to another feature in the XMB. Thanx for agreeing w/ me. The Calendar could serve like a reminder as well, like when you automatically turn on the PS3 for the first time on a Friday, it would say “Resistance FOM Tournament tonight @ 8:00p.m.” Or something like that.

Overall, i believe that Sony is doing a great job with all of the updates and that we all appreciate Sony’s hard work and effort in trying to better the PS3 for all of the users to truly get that Playstation experience that we can only get from them. Keep up the great work Sony!!!

Being able to see the date and time when pushing the PS button would be great, because currently, i have to go to the date and time settings under Settings and that really gets annoying, because i would like to know the time while im in the middle of a battle in Resistance Online.

Of course nearly everbody is asking for in-game XMB and for good reason. This would definitely make a lot of things easier and would be cool to listen to our music in-game. Not just to be played over the music of a game, but to replace it. A custom soundtrack option would be great, because i believe that this is the way that playing GTA IV will be best, When you can either listen to the great radio stations that the GTA series have been known for, or by playing your own music while driving to missions.

Keep up the good work Sony and hopefully you can work out some of our most desired update features sometime before Christmas.

  • I to believe that sony is doing a really good job. Always been a sony fan, and got all your consoles =D
Now, my suggestion was that maybe we could get a Voice Chat room in the PSN, i know we already got one, but when we go play a game, we have to leave the chat room and cant talk any longer. I think it would be a good thing to add, so players can talk, even if they arent playing the same game. Would be cool to chat vocally without depending on the game you’re playin ;)

Keep up the great work, and never give up ;)

    Sony Ftw !

  • How about an option to search for players that live near you and add them to your friends list. That and playback of the most common video formats would be nice including DivX and Quicktime would be a nice addition

  • Thanks for all of the hard work and great updates. I’ll keep my requests simple and easy:

    1. Please add a toggle to turn off the XMB Help icons introduced in v1.90. Many of us don’t need to see it in the bottom right corner every time we move in the XMB.

    2. Add a sound on/off toggle (or volume equalizer) for the game column on the XMB for any downloaded title. Some of the icons are way too loud (Cash Guns Chaos for one!).

  • I WANT Full Range RGB HDMI for PS2 games, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

  • Hey it would be cool if while in the game in the corner of the screen a little window box pops up with a either a pic when its only voice chat or video when its a video call, showing the person using their camera.

The reason why i mention this and believe that sony could implement something like this is because from time to time while browsing the web there are usually highlighted text in a paragraph and when the moude is over it a little box comes up and a video advertisement is palyed. I was thinking that it would be cool have a small window like that pop up while gaming. Just a thought.

  • it would be cool if when i press the ps button. the time and date shows up next to 6axis battery meter

  • i would like to see a better web browset. maybe firefox. and also some sort of IM. u guys say ps3 is always online. that would be cool if i can message my buddies on aim. and maybe have a psn IM as well that we can acess via pc or cell phones.

  • I WANT Full Range RGB HDMI for PS2 games, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…

  • fernandogonzalez@mac.com

Allow Playback of the more common High Profile Level 5.1 AVC files (PS3 is currently limited to 4.1).

Allow playback of open source MKV container format.

Include support for srt, ass, ssa and timed text subtitles for MP4 video files (and MKV if you implement this container).

DVR capability (you could even charge for TV listing subscription and make some money!)

SMB/CIFS support for file playback or transfer (DLNA is nice but you are limited in fast forwarding and network issues can cause playback issues).

Sell Hi-Def movies that can be downloaded to the hard disk or to an external hard disk (DRM free preferred but I doubt that will fly)

  • WE REALLY NEED IN-GAME MUSIC!
I have to shut my Xbox 360 loving cousin up!

  • @Sony

For a future Firmware update can we please please get where we can click on the game saved folder(s) and back up our game saves with one click and not having to save each one?

I back up my game saves weekly and it takes so long to do this because I have to do it for every game and I have like 100 PS2 games and 16 PS3 games, it takes forever to do it.

  • on +2.00 there could be

    -in game xmb
(music, vids, interntet, the whole deal)

-some new visualizations, like the psp’s but more polished and cool looking. x3

-(just a note)often my ps3’s display will vibrate for a couple of seconds, is that just a glitch or my tv?

-playstation store makeover would be awesome, something fluid and modern. the current one feels so static.

-make time go faster so i can get on ps home
    x3

    ty for listening

    “loyal playstation fan”

  • @SONY

    gday,

im from australia and my tv has 1080i output through its componenet connections.

but when you change to 1080i in display settings on the ps3 it doesnt display properly.

there is a picture there that you can see but its is all fuzzy.

my set top box displays 1080i perfectly with no dramas at all.

i have been researching this and it seems it has something to do with ths Hertz of the tv.

my tv has 100hz, 50hz and progressive scan.

and apparently the ps3 displays at 60hz.

i know there are many people in australia with this problem, im not sure about the rest of the world though.

i have contacted sony australia about this many times but have never heard anything back about this.

so obviously my question is will there be a firmware update to address this issue?

    any news would be fantastic

    thanks in advance

  • 1)The ability to create folders, or some other way to sort music, photos and whatever based on user defined settings. Which would then make a search function nice.

2)An “advance to” option. With 1900 songs stored, being on “A” and wanting to get to “S” is annoying.

    3)Playlists.

4)How about updating/improving the web browser? With all the updates, i’m not sure that’s been improved upon even once.

Oh, and if you can figure out how to get it to spit out $20 bills, that’d be great.

Well, since there are many file formats for different types of videos, is it possible that the PS3 can convert those videos to formats playable on the PS3 with a FILE CONVERTING PROGRAM or something.

In addition, the Internet Browser could be a lot faster. Also, when downloading files from some sites, there is no option to background download.

It would be very nice to be able to check messages within games with IN GAME ACCESS TO THE XMB.

Please try to implement these features for a better Playstation 3 experience for its users.

    Thank you for your time.

  • The PS3 just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for listening to the fans.

I’d like to add a few things as well:

Limited in-game XMB(for music and messaging)- Everyone else is asking for it so I just added myself to the pile. I’m hoping to have just the in-game music replaced with my own, while still having all other game audio play through.

PS/PS2 Backward Compatibility/HDMI audio issue- Dolby Digital and DTS tracks do not play as of yet. I’ve tried Metal Gear Solid 2(DD/Stereo), Devil May Cry 3(DD/PLII), and Grand Theft Auto Vice City(DTS) and the surround-encoded portions are not recognized and the audio is muted. It’s a minor issue right now, but I’d like it if you guys could keep this in mind for the future.

HDMI/PCM 5.1/7.1 issue- If PCM 5.1 and/or 7.1 are checked on the Audio Settings they take precedence over PCM 2.0. The problem is that music and games that are recorded in stereo or encoded in PLII play back without bass(no LFE). Having to switch the Audio Settings regularly is a minor annoyance, but I’d just like if you guys could also keep this in mind for the future.

PS/PS2 Backward Compatibility- Upscaling is taken care of(Thanks!!), but would it be possible to add FSAA for (PS/PS2), bilinear filtering(PS), and improve the load times. Also, anyway to remove the need to have to press the PS button for PS2 games.

This is pretty much it from my end. Thank you guys, and take care.

  • I WANT Full Range RGB HDMI for PS2 games, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…..
