Yes, The Heavenly Sword Demo is Coming …
+ Posted by Kyle Shubel // Managing Producer, International Software Development
Hi, this is Kyle, I’m a producer here at SCEA’s Santa Monica Studios. One of the titles I am working on, and quite frankly playing most often, is Heavenly Sword. I’ve read a lot of your comments on this blog about this title and I’m happy to confirm the reports that we’ll have a downloadable demo coming this week to the PLAYSTATION Store.
The complete game is still set for September, but I think you’ll find this demo is a great sample of what’s in store and it’ll certainly give you a good idea of the look and feel of the game. To set the stage here, at the beginning of this demo, our heroine, Nariko, gains consciousness after a violent encounter with the evil King Bohan and his army. Nariko learns that Bohan is holding her father, Shen, prisoner inside a massive temple complex so she sets out to fulfill her destiny and embarks on a quest for vengeance against the invading King and his army.
Keep a lookout for the demo on the PLAYSTATION Store this week, I’m anxious to read what you guys think of it.

Sony guys—-
Just want to say thank you, Sony, very much for the 1.9 update and the upcoming demo. I’m having lots of fun with the 1.9, looking up and downloading all kinds of hi-res photos to show on my 40” Bravia.
Keep up the good work, and I know that the software engineers are fighting to give us the best experience we can possibly have in gaming today.
I still have no reason to buy any other of the competing next-gen consoles at this point—ya’ll are doing fine.
I’ll be playing Heavenly Sword like crazy, finding time between Stardust, and waiting until LAIR!!!——12

Sounds cool, thanks for the update.
I’m looking forward to Lair moreso than this game, but this looks very good and I’ll definitely snag the demo immediately.
I wonder if there will be a Lair demo before release… ; )

Yes, the last update added forced 24p Output, BUT there is still a chance to let people buy Blu-Ray movies without pain.
A screen will likely do one of the following when being force fed 24p:
* display it natively
* convert it to 48p
* convert it to 60p with frame lock - results in 3:2 judder
* convert it to 60p without frame lock - results in tearing (partial frame redraws, the image will look like it’s wobbling on horizontal pans)
* not display it at all
So for all those displays that do not accept a 24Hz signal (and they are a vast majority), a future update with 48Hz OUTPUT will fix this issue.
THEN and only THEN, buying Blu-Ray movies become a real satisfaction.
Thanks.

Looking forward to the demo.
More suggestions I’d like to see:
PS3:
1. Flash player support
2. A resolution option In the game information menu (triangle when the game is selected but not yet started). So for each game you can select the optimal resolution. So for Rainbow it’s 720, MLB 1080 etc… I hate having to switch this around everytime.
3. More video formats so I can make better use of the DLNA.
4. Have the PS3 show up as a drive on my PC, maybe this can be done already?
Others have commented on having the updates being too small and not enough features. Personally, I like getting smaller more frequent updates rather than waiting several months and getting a massive one. As one person stated, it keeps things fresh.
BLOG:
Strongly second the motion someone stated on having a poll for features. Why not have a poll of the top 10 features requested and have everyone choose 2. Maybe you leave out XMB in game or have it pre-selected & disabled in the poll since we know that one’s coming.
Thanks for 1.9 I appreciate the enhancements, these updates are great!

I was almost excited about this game until I saw you guys took the easy way out and only made it 720p.
Any chance you’re going to throw a bone to the large number of 1080i only users or the users who’d like some 1080p games?

deadxbabiesxinc | July 25th, 2007 at 7:44 am
Just cuz a game is 720 doesn’t mean it’s not gonna look impressive. Considering MOST people have less than 1080 I think they’d rather go with the 720 with the greater chance of people having that. Seriously tho, 720 is great just like 60fps would be compared to 120. Sigma runs on 60fps and its amazing.

For anyone interested and ENJOYS the 1.90 firmware update. This site has packages of hi-res wallpapers, I personally like Package 8 so far

leetfoo | July 25th, 2007 at 7:50 am
@274 there’s no reason you need to make excuses for their laziness. When a game support 1080, it supports 720 too, so then everyone can play it in whatever resolution they want. It also means the large number of users whose TVs cannot display 720p don’t then have to play the game in f-ing 480p as though we were on a f-ing ps2.

@192:
Don’t worry, Lairm is still coming out on August 14th in North America. It was pushed back to October 15th in Australia, and September 28th in Europe.
BTW, that Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay footage was the greatest! MGS4 is going to be the most amazing game ever known to man.

Rated T for Teen.
Great job sony!
Im glad to see most of your big games are rated T and not M(ature), ie Lair,Heavenly sword,Motorstorm, etc.
I think this will help sell more games, and I will be more interested.
If you look at the competition, Microsoft, you can see that all(most) of their big games are rated M(ature), yeah they still sell well.
But a Teen rating is a good thing

Wow if its true that this game will not support 1080 (upscaling at least) for displays that do not accept 720p then this is truely irresponsible that you guys would accept that loss in potential sales. I find it hard to beleive that the developers of this game would knowingly sacrifice profits to their studios and to Sony by not supporting this. There are alot of people who will not buy this game if it does not upscale and its just shameful if you guys allow a game with this much hype lose out on potential sales by ignoring this issue and this portion of your market by snubbing potential consumers.
I will never play hd games in sd and by not supporting 1080i this is what you are asking me to do in order to play - sad that there are many others

Wow if this does not support 1080(upscaling at least) then it is just shameful that the developers would accept such a loss in potential sales, its unbeleivable that a business model allows that you be willing to sacrifice this much potential profit by not allowing everyone with an HD tv to play an HD game in HD, its sad if this game with all its hype will not do as well as possible due to the sales you guys are losing out on by this decision - its irresponsible that you should make a decision that would lose this much money for your studio and Sony
