Lair Dev is Complete, Aug 14 Release Set!

Posted by Ryan Hamlyn // Associate Producer, SCEA

Given all the content and interest here on Lair, I figured you guys would also be interested to hear that the North American version of Lair has completed its development and is now in manufacturing! That means that we are on track for our August 14 release date. It goes without saying that we’re eager to get this out to those of you that have been waiting so patiently (or not!) for it to arrive. Considering the new PS3 price and now Lair, hopefully there’s even more of a reason to scoop up a PS3 if you haven’t already!

For us, there’s still a bit of work to do, as we have localization to finish up for Europe, Japan, Korea, and more, which will all hopefully follow very soon. Once those are out, our leaderboards will truly be global, and then we can see once and for all who the best Lair players are out there! The gauntlet has been thrown, and North American players are getting Lair first, so don’t give that advantage away…

We also have some great updates for the official Lair site that will be live soon, so keep an eye out for those …

@hk48

Play, Edge and Maxim reviews don’t count. Those are 3 of the worst publications to get source of videogames from. More so Edge and Maxummag… That is a T&A mag. Not a game mag. If they said Lair is good, it has no merit, cause it’s plastered with T&A and that’s it.

This game is a fail because of it’s garbage ass controls. Simple and clean. They need to fix them before release. Sony needs a killer ap and this game could’ve been it if they had decent controls. Sony needs to tell these snorks to hit the road and stop tarnishing their already tarnished system with crappy games.

Sorry, but it needed to be said. I’m a huge supporter of Sony. I love Sony and nothing but. I will continue to be loyal sony and spread their word and improve their sales at my work, but I will not support half assed games that come out at killer ap prices. Sorry…. Factor 5, if you’re listening… Fix this mess.

If IGN and Gamespot give it bad reviews then I am waiting for a demo.

If Factor 5 releases a patch that changes the control system so you use analog sticks that would be better. They should have made it like MotorStorm where you have the option to use either Sixaxis or Analog Control.

I have not trusted EGM’s reviews for about 9 years, so I dont care what they say.

I like to play the games that I like. For example Marc Ecko’s Getting Up got really bad reviews yet I still loved that game. And still fire it up in my 3.

Even if Lair get bad reviews Im still buying it day one and i’ll most likely enjoy every second of playing it.

@HK-48

Where did you get the review numbers for EGM? I just checked 1UP.com and they had nothing.

gamesblow  |  July 30th, 2007 at 9:02 pm

That’s cool, guys… I don’t like EGM either, but you hafta realise 1 thing. 3 guys review the game after extensive play. Most mags and sites have 1 guy who plays them and that’s it. I’d rather have 3 guys opinions than 1. Lair sucks, face it. Lair sucks because the broken ass stupid motion garbage that is tacked onto the sixaxis. It should’ve never been 1st priority. It should be 2nd. All motion sensor stuff should take a back seat to digital and analog play.

Tekken 6 would suck balls if it was motion only with no option out. Lair blows because the dev’s got shelfish and wanted to make the game they wanted to play and not the game “WE” wanted to play. Simple and clean.

@gamesblow
they’re giving us the new way of playing / controls and thats something innovative, something diff than the old analog stick so why not take the challenge and tackle the game with new way and experience like no other? u dont like challenging stuff arent u? even if its hard for the 1st time, we sure can slowly adapt the controls anyway. unless ure a wussies

gamesblow  |  July 30th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

I see that… I’m open to that. Incognito touched upon that with Warhawk, but what seperates them from Factor 5 is this… They give us a choice. Don’t like it, don’t hafta play like it. I was a beta tester for Warhawk. I played with motion for a week straight. It sucked. I couldn’t do it. I didn’t want to do it. It wasn’t my thing… I wanna relax and play. Using motion I couldn’t do that.

I changed it over to analog and simply fell in love with the game. I am buying Warhawk day and date of it coming out. Lair and Factor 5 need to take a page from Incog. Simple as that.

Yeah, innovate that’s fine… but most everyone still likes to use the Analogs. Give us a choice. Don’t force our hands… That’s a joke.

Any chance of this game coming for PSP !!

Cagalli  |  July 30th, 2007 at 11:08 pm

Nope, not coming out for PSP, sorry.

311

gamesblow  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:10 am

Hell, playing with 1 analog would be playing with no analog. I’d fully support it on the PSP.

RatchetFanatic  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:21 am

Analog support!!!

gamesblow  |  July 31st, 2007 at 12:40 am

@gamesblow

So you’ve played the game and you’ve decided you didn’t like it?

It’s really nice to think that reviewers are completely above the whole Sony vs Microsoft console war but lets be realistic. You’re talking about vast sums of money in the long run. Sony is still reaping the benefits of dominating the last generation.

Lets even leave out the paranoid idea that just maybe a company would stoop so low as to influence reviewers opinons on games. Everyone has their own personal preferences. I wouldn’t spend more than 5 minutes on any sports game and because of that i wouldn’t be able to tell you whats good and whats not.

This pre-emptive review feels like an attempt to poison the sales. Just look whats happened.. You give the vaguest suggestion that a genuine Sony exclusive game might be bad and suddenly all the consumers who were certain they were going to buy it are unsure. Simple market sabotage.

Personally this game is something i’m going to buy and judge for myself . If others are so concerned, then just wait for the rest of the reviews to come out. Chances are if it’s REALLY a dud then it will be reflected across the board and not by one or two sources. And if that’s not enough, rent the damn thing and make up your own mind.

If i’d listened to reviewers i would’ve never picked up Monster Hunter Freedom on the PsP. Gamespot gave it a 6 on 10 and it’s a system seller in Japan. Phenomenal.
Add to that the fact that reviewers don’t take into consideration how DLC can improve upon a game. Killzone PSP had a good but not great review because it was missing online capabilities and had a somewhat short campaign. Both issues were addressed with DLC (free) but the rating didn’t change.

Now lets get to Factor 5. Do you really think that after spending millions of dollars on developing a game that a company is just going to throw it at the market and hope it works? oh well.. it’s a dud.. on to the next one?

They’re not idiots, the game has obviously been through testing and if there were serious issues with the control system then they would’ve been fixed.
In the unlikely event that that is the case then it’ll be fixed by DLC in no time.
I can remember making the cross-over from Pc to console and thinking that the controllers were clunky and awkward. For the first half an hour or so…
Give the motion sensitivity an honest effort and i’m sure if they’ve pushed it, it’ll feel right.

Or you can continue to be stubborn and bash a game that you honestly have no experience with.

gamesblow  |  July 31st, 2007 at 1:31 am

I said I’d try it… When they come out with a demo of it. I’ll be glad to do just that… I won’t pay for a rental or this game before I get to play it, however. When I’m done playing it and the controls still suck… I’ll be right back to square 1… Wishing they’d have aimed for my demograph of gamers. The one’s who feel motion is B.S.

So, Factor 5 better be hopping to a demo real soon. I don’t see them doing that, however, cause they know their game is underwhelming. They’ll wait until after it’s released and sales have dropped off to release a demo.

I want this game patched… simple as that. This could’ve been Sony’s big ap. It could’ve but they had to follow the trends of motion sensor garbage and it got them 5’s across the board. IGN will give the game a 6 and Gamespot will give them a 5.5 — Controls are everything in a game. If it don’t play well, no one will care how pretty it is.

Bank it.

Garnett Lee and the rest of the 1up and EGM little Microsoft little b$%*^s can suck it

FACTOR 5 put they heart and soul in this game, like they do for every game they develop. I will be picking it up on day one.

40cal  |  July 31st, 2007 at 7:20 am

Yep, Im still buying this day one. I dident like the Sixaxis at first but after playing games like Flow and Super Rub A Dub it feels natural now. I think this is the same crap that people where talking about the Heavenly Sword combo system. OMG I had to learn somthing! Thats what new or Next Gen gaming is about, learning, evolving, trying somthing new and inovative.

300 hits Blu-Ray today, gotta go pick that up on my lunch break.
