This is Scarlett from Capcom-unity, and I wanted to give a big thanks to SCEA for inviting us to put an entry on its blog. I know there have been a lot of queries here about the upcoming Resident Evil 5 trailer (thanks!), and we wanted to set the record straight. So, without further ado …
Is that really gameplay in the trailer?
Yes, indeed, that is actual in-game footage.
How will RE5 compare to RE4?
We don’t want to give anything away, but let’s just say, “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.”
When will there be a new trailer?
Funny you should ask. With the previous trailer being less than one minute long, we’re releasing the extended Resident Evil 5 trailer on the PS Store today, showcasing more jaw dropping footage which will blow away anything you’ve ever seen. ‘Nuff said.
For those that want a piece of what’s to come, download Resident Evil 5 wallpaper right here.
Be sure to stop by Capcom-Unity for the latest Capcom news and views!
See ya there!

Thanks for the heads up, Scarlett
That trailer was so cool it made my eyes bleed. That’s quite a feat considering the Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay video made my head explode due to the sheer awesomeness.

Yawn… R.E. lost its appeal with me after Nemesis. That was a great game. What ahppened? The stories got delluted, the characters did, the zombies got taken out for 28 days and Dawn remake kind of “Crap” zombies. I just wish Capcom would’ve gave us a good ol’ fashion R.E. again. I didn’t like R.E. 4 at all. I loathed the Dead aim one and the online ones were kinda blah to me too.

Also, of interest, why does Capcom think Dante and the shirt Chris is wearing in that trailer are cool? They’re not. Dante says some of the most asinine things ever. That shirt Chris is wearing is so tight his head and arms might fall off. I loved Capcom when they had loyalty to Sony… Now, they’re just another “give me a quick buck” developer.

I have to come back for one more… Sorry, guys. Why in the heck is Chris wearing that too tight R.C.S.D. T-shirt to begin with? That makes no sense. He’s obviously overseas somewhere. Wasn’t Raccon City in America? Like near Oregon or somewhere, if memory serves?? Why would they dispatch chris to “What looks like” Afrika or papa new G? He has a job to do, huh? Well, he better get back to the states before he loses it.

Hey, just wanted to say: Don’t be afraid to use more than 1 DVD for the 360 version! I don’t want a gimped game because of that console’s limitations.

1 word: Demo…
Then some more words: Do you work for Capcom? I’m surprised there haven’t been MORE “death to capcom” posts flooding this blog for announcing multiplat on DMC4 RIGHT before a big game show… Yeah… Talk about betrayal. Read my post on the MGS4 blog to see why exclusives matter. I know a lot of people who were going to buy a PS3 JUST for DMC4 and would have for RE5, but now they just get 360s.
Face facts, you didn’t go exclusive because you were scared of early low sales figures, but you’re helping CREATE those low sales figures by dropping more and more exclusives from the PS3 lineup…
If you’re going to drop exclusives, then we should at least get Lost Planet (though I couldn’t care less about LP) and Dead Rising (which I would really love)
It wouldn’t completely make up for it, but it would sure as hell help.

Oh, Capcom…How we’ve grown up together. You’re a bittersweet ride, but i love you still. And now this. This is something huge. This is the first real game i want for my ps3. I only wish you guys would stop teasing us so many months ahead. the waiting… is the hardest part.

Keysersoze10033 | July 26th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
Even though I think this game should’ve stayed with Sony, but then again, I thought the same about Devil May cry 4. We made these franchises what they are now, the least Capcom could’ve done was support the system in it’s early stages. Anyway, I will get both games, but I wanted to be heard.

I don’t like the video, the graphics was terrible. That’s how all-platform games end up like. Capcom… sigh.

“Oh, Capcom…How we’ve grown up together. You’re a bittersweet ride, but i love you still. And now this. This is something huge”
I agree with
ennemme up there. I still remember playing the first resident evil… But this new game is gonna be awesome!!!
ALL THAT WAS REALTIME!!!
This is going to be huge. This should have been a PS3 exclusive SONY. But Im ok with it going multiplatform.
Thanks for what looks like a killer game CAPCOM.

ChanDangle | July 26th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Is this game being specifically developed for the ps3 or 360? Hopefully we don’t get gimped port of anykind. As much as I like capcom they’ve been slipping away from sony lately.
124
Sipu | July 26th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
Well, Re4 started on the Gamecube too and much later was ported to PS2…
I don’t care, really.. as long as the game is released properly “when it’s done” and plays well on any platform.

roadclimber | July 27th, 2007 at 12:33 am
I don’t really see why people are shaking their fists at Capcom. They’re a business and they’ll make more money by releasing on multiple consoles….. so. they do
simple as that.
That being said.. i still don’t understand why Capcom hasn’t been interested in making Ps3 versions of Dead Rising or Lost Planet. In the case of the former, i can only hope that when the sequel is released it’ll be multi-platform.
Also, what’s the deal with the Ds getting all the resident-evil love? The psp has been out for a while now and i’ve been itching for news of zombie smashing on the small screen but so far there’s been no joy. I’ve heard rumours of Devil May Cry but what about the zombies?
And one last question.. Is Capcom concerned at all about the quality of gameplay in the products they release? Both Dead Rising and Lost Planet played badly on my 360. I really enjoyed Dead Rising but the experience was marred by being forced to repeat missions due to the console freezing. I don’t imagine i’ll get a serious answer to this as sales seem to suggest that consumers will play games regardless of whatever they’ll have to put up with. Ultimately it’s not really your problem either, as the game itself isn’t flawed.

This game looks great! Here’s hoping that CAPCOM will show the PS3 some love in the years to come because there are MANY PSone and PS2 owners who have converted over who have been CAPCOM faithful fans since the beginning. Here’s hoping that we see future installments of games that started on the 360 as a lot of people only have the PS3 and wish that they could play games such as Dead Rising and Lost Planet.
Anyway, I want to personally thank YOU, CAPCOM, for giving PS3 owners the opportunity to view this trailer, so we can get just as hyped up for this great game as our 360 brethren.

We WANT a Devil May Cry 4 demo on PSN! NOW! I mean where is it guys? You guys have been demoing it on PS3 for almost a year now, you guys even had it playable in PS3 kiosks in Japan! So why can’t you upload a demo onto the PSN? I hope we see one soon on PSN…. preferably the latest build, with the frosts and the snow environment. PLEASE CAPCOM PUT THE DEVIL MAY CRY 4 DEMO ON PSN IMMEDIATELY!!!! I BEG OF YOU! The playstation nation begs of you!

afrosheen | July 27th, 2007 at 3:47 pm
Sad that all this pretty footage is from the X360 build. I wonder why Capcom is owned by Microsoft these days? They used to be in Sony’s pocket. I guess companies with very limited IP and stale franchises are all about the money grab anyway.
134
gtagod | July 27th, 2007 at 6:46 pm
Are they following the same idea as RE4? as soon as RE4 came out I lost interest in the whole series. just wasn’t scary anymore….

Ya Capcom should made this game PS3 only. Hopefully they will make use of the PS3 power and bluray etc.. and not make it the same as the other console.
But we will see.

Can I ask that when information about multi-platform games are posted here that you at least mention what is different about it from it’s Xbox 360 counter part. At least that gives us consumers a better picture of what we are paying for.

this game is going to be awsome dudes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chartwel | July 29th, 2007 at 9:32 am
the light/dark contrast thing needs to be seriously toned down. i like that they are trying something new, but 80% of the detail of peoples faces, arms, clothing, outlines, chris’s gun, etc is totally lost to the rest of the shadows, making it look like absolute Sh*t at some points. im sorry if that sounds rude, but i want to be able to see the people and surrounding environments. and my set is calibrated by the way.
so im 50% excited by the new gameplay elements, and 50% worried im not going to be able to see half the stuff that i am doing.

The graphics look really nice. But i wish capcom didnt favour 360, so they could try use the full potential of the PS3.

The graphics look great in this game. I can’t wait to play as Chris Redfield again. Been a while since he’s been the focus of a resi game.

so? It’s multi-platform, it will works on x360 better. Hate it: R6, COD3, Darkness - all are multi games tested my self and fps on ps3 are poor.
147
gamesblow | July 31st, 2007 at 1:47 am
Any game that is mult will be better on the xbox 360… That’s because developers are too “Stupid” “lazy” and or “useless” to make anything work on the Ps3.
Wait and see… DMC4 will be better on the xbox 360, inspite of it being “so called” made from the ground up on the PS3… WE got jacked this gen. Simple as that.
Sony didn’t do enough reaching around to all these dev’s like MS did. Next time Sony should buy excluisves… The gamer doesn’t care about your integrity Sony. They just want games. Learn it.

leetfoo: “@54- here’s a big shocker for you…
are you ready…?
The Resident Evil Dev team…
IS NOT WHITE! They are Japanese. Does that throw a wrench in your racist thinking?”
—
juicebytim: “1) Resident Evil 5 is being made in Japan, which means the majority of the staff will be Japanese…last I checked, Japanese people are not white.”
—
I think you both need to get your eyes checked; Japanese people have whiter skin than most Europeans and they’re certainly not black. What would you call them? Take a look at recent Japanese history and, in particular, their attitude towards black people and you may well see the issue here.
As for the fact that white people were the target in the previous Resident Evil game, the protagonist was also white, which balances it out. In Resident Evil 5, you are a white person shooting black people (not zombies by the way - they abandoned the zombie idea in RE4).
Capcom could easily have made the central character black. But they didn’t… and by failing to do so, and failing to explain their motives for the “white versus black” environment in this new game, they leave themselves wide open to accusations of racism.

HappySpaceInvdr | July 31st, 2007 at 4:21 am
Here’s a quote from the Rotten Tomatoes discussion forum that says it all:
“I have no idea why a videogame where you run around as a white guy in Africa and kill a whole bunch of bloodthirsty, savage, mindless black people could be misconstrued as racist, particularly as it’s being developed by the famously even-handed Japanese.” - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/showthread.php?t=572293
I hope the sarcasm is not lost on all of you.

chartwel | July 31st, 2007 at 1:07 pm
ahh good lord the racist thing again. some people are ridiculous. if you think about the story line, where else could wesker rebuild the umbrella corporation? he cant in the Us and probably not in Europe. he will go to a country where he doesnt have to worry about experiments, and the government. im sorry, but Africa is once place that might work out.
lol. i get a laugh everytime i see someone bringing up the race issue. keep it coming guys
