A few weeks ago, I blogged about the Resistance global server/map pack release date, along with a promise of a sneak peek at Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Since then, an interview with RCF creative director Brian Allgier has surfaced here, teasing some details (such as enemies with evil fish steering a robotic body), and if you listen to the Insomniac Games Full Moon Show, they were promising a screen shot of said sneak peek – this screen shot I share with you now, check it out.
This shot is taken from our E3 level, Metropolis, and it’s the first thing a player will see after the opening movie plays. It’s probably safe to say that the Captain Quark statue may not make it out in one piece. As for why Metropolis is under attack, well… it has something to do with heavily armed robotic commandos, large space ships and, maybe, something to do with Ratchet’s unknown past that is coming back to haunt him. Or maybe Quark pressed the wrong button in the planetary defense center again and is about to see his chiseled likeness go up in smoke because of it. It’s too early to say much more…
There will also be penguins, courtesy of the Transmorpher. The Transmorpher is one of our new devices (along with the Grooveitron and several others that we haven’t announced yet) that will turn most enemies into penguins. Because, really, they are all the rage these days, and we didn’t want to be left out of the penguin craze; sheep are too last gen for us.
With time permitting at E3 this week, I’ll try to chime back in here with more RCF details from the show.

nice… I’m all for turning baddies into penguins… but I may have major problems with actually blasting said penguins to blubbery pieces.

Haha I’m a penguin lover too and glad to see some avian-comedy make it into the game. I am excited to see the sheer number of moving sprites and objects on the screen in this game. It should set a new bar for platformers for both systems. Keep up the great work, I can’t wait for E3!

“Or maybe Quark pressed the wrong button in the planetary defense center again’ XD I love the sense of humor you bring to this series. Know that we love you and will continue to support you! …Well, at least until a younger, hotter, looser game comes along! XD Just kidding!

CitizenInsane27 | July 8th, 2007 at 10:37 am
Yeah, if you guys can, please, release a bunch of demos after, or even during E3, PLEASE, get these interactive teasers into our hands so that we can get a taste of the future!

I think this game looks like a pixar film in terms of graphics, which is a very good thing. I cannot wait for this game, isn’t sopposed to come out in the fall, that is quick for a new game from Insomniac, the are amazing developers that make great games in a short period of time. I agree a demo of this would be awesome.

The original screenshot on flickr is 3840 x 2160. Will the game run at that kind of resolution? And if so will it be at 60 fps? Actually are there any TVs that support 2160p resolution ;o)?
That would certainly take the wind out of XBox360’s High Def sails if the game would run natively at that kind of resolution and at 60fps.

Maddens Raiders | July 8th, 2007 at 11:07 am
Sometimnes it’s hard to imagine that these are even real screen shots. This game looks simply Amazing!!!
It’s got AAA killer-app written all over it and I can’t wait.
cheers

mckmas8808 | July 8th, 2007 at 11:14 am
Man this game looks great. Those Insomniacs have people thinking the AA in this screenshot is impossible. The IQ in Resistence was great, so why not this game right?
26
Savage | July 8th, 2007 at 11:19 am
OK there is one TV called the
Westinghouse Quad HDTV which runs at 2160p but it costs around $50,000. A small leap up from the price of a PS3 price.
27
balliinn | July 8th, 2007 at 11:23 am
wow that screen shot looks amazing!
can’t wait to play this game!
28
Maddens Raiders | July 8th, 2007 at 11:24 am
I would never buy anything with Westinghouse on it for more than $20 bucks. Hell, the Sony 70″ XBR3 w/ triluminous technology clocks in at a smooth $33,000 USD so $50,000 USD is incredible…..but 2160p – WOW I’d like to see it. I read online once that there are already plans to make LCD’s that display at 14440p or some outrageous resolution with contrast at 10,000:1 — just insane numbers.

I wish more developers were as active as Insomniac on these awesome updates on the blog. Great PR for the game and very informative to see the progress of the development.

Asking for a demo?
All the demos in E3 might be out on the ps store next week, a haze demo, a heavenly sword, lalir, uncharted etc..if sony wants they can easily do that.

Mexicano_666 | July 8th, 2007 at 12:27 pm

CrimsonCalibur | July 8th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Stunning screenshot! There is NO excuse for those other company’s crappy looking ports when amazing stuff like this is coming out in just a few months.
43
HanSolo | July 8th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
ohhh i cant wait for this!!!
just a question, does the game run at 60 fps???
44
SuMizzle | July 8th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
That screenshot is proof the 9 month old PS3 can achieve graphics the 2yr old 360 would chug at delivering. Insomniac is a fantastic dev and this game will be getting purchased.

GFXology.com | July 8th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
@40
It also looks like later in the video, it looks like the blurred out controller is silver, take from that what you want.

tielo | July 8th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
