“LittleBigPlanet is slated to launch in early 2008, but before it does, the entire PSN community will have a chance to check out a near-complete version of the game and see if anything is amiss or whether or not they like it.”

This is great news… i was resigned to having to wait until 2008 before i’d get a glimpse of Little big planet but now it looks like we’ll get to mess around with it before the year is up.

I love my fps games but the demos for lbp really impressed me. Home, LBP and The Eye of Judgement make me happy that i picked up a ps3. I like the originality of LBP and the potential it has to exist as a self supporting source of entertainment.

Gears of War is visually nice but at the end of the day it’s still just a Fps with 2-8 player online…. and a short single player campaign.

How does that compare to a game that supports simultaneous multi-user developed content?

Bring it on :)

blizzard182  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 4:39 am

@indigovenom

Chill out man. Google is your friend…

I do believe there is some license issues. Also, Darkness has a very high restriction age to be played. That way I believe maybe it is not very easy to accept in the US. Just a thought.

Firmware 1.90 in Japan!!!

http://psnow.es/ps3/firmware-190-solo-en-japon-de-momento/

It is in Spanish so here is the list of new things for those who can not speak Spanish:

- Possibility to re-arrange the games in the XMB
- Option menu now has the option to Eject CD.
- Press Triangle to see the Menu to Eject CD.
- Custom Wallpapers!
- Change folder category (Dont know what it means)
- Emoticons in virtual keyboard
- Change CD output to 48/88/174
- Force BD output to 24hz
- Change video settings during gameplay
- Bit mapping option in Music
- Save AVCHD animations saved in Memory Stick.
- Change Scale options during PS One or PS2 games.

Well, I hope this is true. Because if you keep in mind what the 2.0 leak was, we are going to have great firmware updates.

thereapersson  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 5:32 am

@ lightingz; You are the dumbest person to comment on this blog entry so far. Congratulations, troll!!!

This is all great news for PS3 owners this week! First the greatness of 1.9 announced, and now a Heavenly Sword demo on Thursday. Awesome indeed!!!

Oh, and for those complaining, just make a EU account if you really want to play it immediately. For the rest of us, we have waited this long, we will wait a tiny bit longer for a US release.

PLAY B3YOND, [DELETED]!!! :)

162

deadxbabiesxinc  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 5:41 am

OH SHNAP! HS Demo?!? I might have to take Friday off from work to enjoy the demo multiple multiple times! :)

Kedaro  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 5:56 am

Looking forward to firmware updates, but until I can incorporate my own music playlists into my games to replace the background music of the game itself, It’s trivial at best, wallpapers… bah who needs em the Sony(PS3) wave rocks!, the option of changing would be nice, but I probably won’t anyway, I think at this point Sony’s #1 priority shouldn’t be going through their set list of what everyone wants, they should really/truly be deciphering what the people want more… I love my ps3, I don’t care much for other systems, but I play the great games no matter where they are, and I gotta’ admit, this launch… although statistically a success, has been rough on the fans, who have been waiting idly by, the company they trust/love, for them to deliver, and they’re in the business of videogames, so the excuse, that they have lives too doesn’t pull any cred with me, I have a life outside my gaming too, and believe me, I’m bored with everything atm, and find myself looking toward the future of ps3 constantly wondering if the next big thing will really be ‘the big thing’…
I have never googled anything as much as I’ve googled ‘ps3′ or ‘ps3 update’ or ‘ps3 news’ or ‘ps3 firmware’ whatever and that to me says that there is a problem, I never had this problem with ps2, heck I even managed to fall behind my other avid gaming friends when ps2 was running strong, they had this game and that game, and i had to catch up even though I was the one who read OPM and told them what was coming. Now I’ve got a ps3, and while i might love the games I own Motorstorm – Resistance – Oblivion – Marvel:UA … ok maybe not Marvel, so shoulda’ got that on psp… basically the same game. They are all games I probably wouldn’t have bought or even looked at if Socom – Gran Turismo – Final Fantasy XIII and LAIR were ready at launch, Sometimes I feel almost force fed, just because of that matter, sure I ended up enjoying that I bought them, but I wouldn’t have bought them if I had other choices.

Sony… I know you all are probably doing the best you can, but if you’re not… your fans are hanging in the balance, and we stand strong these past 9 months waiting patiently for the onslaught of the ‘NEXT GEN’

I’m praying that whatever you have planned to reveal in Germany this year is earth shattering, and I’m praying that you truly do have an ace or three hidden up your well tailored sleeves, even if it’s just to keep it extremely hush hush so that other companies don’t copy your idea, and put 3 times the manpower on their own version, to get it out before you do.

to me Sony is the Innovation in gaming, always has been, and hopfully will continue to be… keep up the good work, and feel free to directly attack my post, but be warned I am a big Sony fanboy, and will take negative comments or criticism seriously.

165

Kedaro  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 6:10 am

@ my own comment

ignore that… I got a better Idea
Hire me… give me a powerful position
like Lead Director on a Videogame of my own concepts/design, and I’ll flatten every other company on the market.
I swear by this…

166

indigovenom  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 6:27 am

LOL The PSN may lock up due to all the simultaneous downloading of HS

167

thechosenfew88  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 6:30 am

Can’t wait to play the HS demo! I’ve been drooling over this game, and its finally coming THIS WEEK!! haha! Can’t wait to play it… :-)

Madness3120  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 6:45 am

… Is In-Game XMB access really that hard? Whats so hard about it? SONY see’s EVERONE want’s it but won’t address it. Why? Its a feature that should have been in there from the start?

Why rush the console? …..

Money hungry?????? hummmm……

169

indigovenom  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:01 am

nope they are Home hungry. i truly believe that they are saving many features for Home, which sucks but will be great when Home is released.

170

Madness3120  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:09 am

I still think thats the wrong route, they need features, games, more commericals, NOW that will attract potential customers that are debating on getting a PS3 or not.
That had the hype back in March but it’s been dropped right back down.

171

blizzard182  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:10 am

Why is everyone sooo desperate to have XMB access in game?

Sure it will be nice, but I think bug fixes and improvements to the whole PS3 experience are far better.

If I am in the middle of a FPS shooter I can not care less about the message someone just sent me. I am not going to leave my adrenaline rush until I want to.

I see it more as a promise that Sony made and would really disappoint me if they would never deliver that.

172

Madness3120  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:12 am

Well thats YOU. Majority of current PS3 owners wants it! Its pretty obvious just look at any PS3 forums/boards.

173

blizzard182  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:13 am

@Madness3120

I know man, I know. They are going to do what the majority wants. Just another point of view.

Now it is XMB access…what´s next?

174

Madness3120  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:16 am

After that, That’s about it. (That I want) well better Browser features, Im sure they’ll put in other little useless features in (e.g printing JUST images)and other minor things.

175

JimmyHACK  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:19 am

@blizzard

don’t knock it till you try it… us with 360’s as well know how in an online gaming community that access to messages / invites / etc at anytime is exactly what is needed. At first i could care less just cause i was happy with my new PS3, but honestly it needs to be the priority addon. Can we live without it? Yes. Should they add other features before it? No.

But in the end I am happy with any firmware update.. :)

176

thereapersson  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:22 am

Any features added are just more features that ensure the PS3 stays on top of the game! Plus, some of them will probably end up being ones that make us go “Oh, so can your 360 do that? Didn’t think so…”

177

blizzard182  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:23 am

@JimmyHACK

Yes, could be that I don´t have the reason which I don´t honestly miss it.

But I believe Sony has other priorities right now. We are hitting them really hard with critics, demos requests, feature request.

They are not gods..close…but not gods :P

178

deadxbabiesxinc  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:34 am

yeah I definitly don’t see the in-game XMB coming anytime before Home…probably will be the big feature of Home honestly.

Altho customizable soundtracks sounds like it’d be more of a firmware 2.0 feature cuz they’d want to make 2.0 a big deal.

I think Lair and HS will have some nice commercials in the near future. Remember the GoW2 commercial? That was a nice one! So I can’t see them not doing the same about these 2 hot titles.

179

thechosenfew88  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:38 am

We should try coming up with a list of features that Xbox 360 does not offer. Most of the features we are asking for, the 360 does them in its own way. If we PS3 gamers want to stand out from the rest, we have to have something unique, that not other console has. Home is the right direction to go, but as far as firmware updates, they should aim more towards things that 360 does not offer. A universal IM chat client? I’m out of ideas. Back to la la land… ;-)

180

thechosenfew88  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:41 am

If you look at it, no one care if you can do something the others can also. Thats why, if some 360 owner would come up to me,(and I’m one by the way), and say, I can listen to my own soundtrack on ANY game. And then I would be like, I CAN TOO! But if we don’t have that feature, we would either stay quiet, and look dumb, or mention another feature that they may not have as a 360 owner. But its better to have more features that they don’t offer, then to have the same ones. Hope I make sense..lol.

181

blizzard182  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:44 am

@thechosenfew88

Good point. It has to do something related with the PSP/PS3 connection since 360 does not have a handled..yet…

Yeah, Nintendo does, Sony does..it is just a matter of time so Sony has to hurry up.

Lets see..why do I leave my PS3? To browse in the internet..that leave us to..

- Improve the browser (Firefox plugin would be sweet)

Another thing is when I want to see some movies in avi…

- Add more codecs! (I use TVsersity but well)

When I go to the bathroom..

- Please add a virtual toilet. To flush you need to hit Square, Square, Circle, Right, Right and then pull the right trigger. Thats classy.

So I am out of ideas and I am hungry. Gonna have something to eat.

182

thechosenfew88  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:47 am

One simple feature that I can think of, that is going to be in 1.90 hopefully, is the eject disc option. You can eject the disc tray on the 360, but ONLY when its empty. If a game is in there, you only have the option to start it up, and not eject. PS3 will have that feature in 1.90, so things like that would be side features us PS3 gamers can brag about. Maybe not a feature so small like this one, but you know…. Something that is worth bragging about.

@blizzard182

virtual toilet..! LOL!

183

deadxbabiesxinc  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:51 am

I think the customizable soundtracks will be in firmware 2.0 cuz i’d figure you’d need something big for that number.

XMB in game probably will be a Home feature, just seems more likely cuz they’d want you to gather up your buddies in Home and just jump into a game from your apartment or whatever (i’m not in the beta :( so i’m not sure how it works just assuming)

Well since we can eject a game without touching the console cuz i dunno about the rest of you but I don’t like finger prints on my shiny PS3…so the next obvious step would be for a little hand to pop out of the disc slot (like those hot dog commercials?) and put the disc in for you…that would definitly keep smudges off. But we’ll save that for PS…6?

Wallpaper Guide for when the 1.90 firmware is released

http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1433718&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

Also, looks like Heavenly Sword is coming to the EU PSN this week: http://www.psu.com/node/12192

And lastly, the PS3 outsells the 360 last week in Japan by 5:1. Eat that, Peter Moore: http://www.psu.com/node/12189

185

thechosenfew88  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:54 am

@deadxbabiescinc

LOL! Talk about keeping the PS3 dust free.. The thing is too beautiful to even let dust mount itself on top of it. I would love to make like a clear case to cover it up, leaving a space to be able to put a disc in. I like to hear the noise of the PS3’s power on button. Sounds so high class compared to the 360….

186

Kratos_ate_Snake  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:58 am

dam, no xmb access this time around I guess…. wonder how long till the highly awaited 2.0 comes out.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/23/firmware-v1-90-hits-japan-arriving-in-europe-tomorrow/#comments

187

blizzard182  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 7:58 am

@thechosenfew88

With all due respect chosen (Can I call you chosen? :P) I think the 50% defunct ratio of the 360 is unacceptable.

I guess you could say that when you are comparing both.

- “So my 360 has XMB access. What does your PS3 do?”
- “It Works =)”

Crumpilstilskin  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 8:00 am

First off, great job with all the updates Patrick, this blog is really what the Playstation community needed. It’s nice to see a company who in the past hasn’t exactly been the most verbose concerning their products, change their ways and open up to inform their customers, loyal and new. Now for a couple of questions:

- I understand there is going to be a public beta for Home soon, is it going to be for a select few again like the current beta, or open to whoever wants to try it? Also is there a date on when it’s going to be released?

- a PSP question: – the new iteration of the PSP is going to have 64 mb of memory vs 32 mb in the current model. Is this extra memory just for loading times for the UMD, or will developers be able to access this for programming as well?

Thanks for all the info and keep up the great blog!

189

thechosenfew88  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 8:09 am

@blizzard182

So true! Luckily, I’ve been one of those to have a defective unit since launch. But that doesn’t change the fact that the percentage rate is high due to failure rates. So that would be something great to talk about. Something that beats many features. Having a system that works eh..? LOL!

Call me chosen if you want. Doesn’t matter to me bro.

190

Spyder-97  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 8:25 am

@Kratos_ate_Snake
Actually there will be some in-game XMB access feature in the firmware update; google this “PS3 firmware 1.90 imminent”.

191

deadxbabiesxinc  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 8:30 am

@ Blizzard182 about the
“So my 360 has XMB access. What does your PS3 do?”
- “It Works =)”
BUUUUURN!!! lol and if we’re talking about 360…that can be taken literally XD

Um…also…is there some sort of “Reply to (Commenter)” thing we could add to the blogs? I mean its a bit tedious to keep typing out everyones login names to say somethign to them. Example would be Kotaku’s site.

192

Kpepe  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 3:58 pm

@ Sony
I know that you’ve been hearing and receiving lots of pressure about the Home Beta. I’m asking something else. I’ve read that there is a LittleBigPlanet Beta coming soon. Is this true?

193

free  |  July 23rd, 2007 at 4:33 pm

I think the comments that start and end with “[...]” are from some sort of spam bots…

Check it out Sony.

You guys had an absolutely amazing E3 conference, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a Sony fan, it really was the best of the 3 in my opinion. As with most of the world though, I like the old E3 style & setup much better.

195

dbarrade  |  July 24th, 2007 at 8:36 pm

What did the developers say after they saw Bioshock? At the moment that’s about the only reason I’d consider another console… can I get a show of hands of people who’d like to see it on the PS3?

196

zeonpilot  |  July 25th, 2007 at 2:58 pm

Sony had a great E3. They were all about the games. I’ve been with sony since the ps1 days and they havent let me down yet. Great job, Sony.

197

kenji  |  July 27th, 2007 at 7:53 am

Not sure if Patrick is still reading this but I tried putting this into the email but I guess it was too big.

I don’t understand why SCEA thinks that the US gaming market is so different from the UK and Japanese markets?

I have numerous issues which have yet to be officially addressed by a Public response from Sony on the blog or through the mainstream media. The lack of response makes me as well as other consumers concerned as to weather or not Sony knows what the US gamers want?

1. PS1 games on the US Playstation Store is sorely lacking and there’s no information as to when this will be addressed. Looking at the Japanese PS Store it’s flooded with games to put on your PSP and Play on your PS3. Why are lacking in this area?

2. Voice Chat from first party SCEA games like MLB07 the show or downloadable PSN games. What reason would Sony Q&A allow games from first party studios to lack voice chat? This is only causes the fans to lose more and more confidence in Sony and the Playstation hardware.

3. My biggest personal issue as well as many others in the playstation community. The lack of direction and insight when it comes to the PSP.
You’ve got the price right, and the hardware is amazing but you lack the ability to inform people of it’s capabilities, and you refuse to provide the tools necessary to make it a mass market device. This is causing you to lose market share and blemish the first impression many psp owners have with the system.

News Flash!
Ipod and apple are a success because of ease of use not because it’s an amazing product.

- Release a more up to date functional version of media manager with sonic stage connect built in to the UI, for free with the purchase of a PSP. People should have to be tech heads to get content on their PSP.

- Get the lead out and release this video/music service sooner than later, you’ve delayed way too long.

- Finally your studies with regards to the number of colors to release and the colors which SCEA should put out are completely alienating a huge audience of gamers. Females game just as much as Males do but Black, Silver and White without Pink is just foolish. I would go so far as to say that you could replace Silver with Pink.

I would love to see an official response on this blog with regard to what’s sony stance on all of these issues, and in particular PSP colors.

How about adding some more colors to that Poll as well?

If there’s no demand for those votes should so it.

JNaquinJr  |  July 29th, 2007 at 5:19 am

I would like to say a few words for the people at playstation that i would like to see more games with people in wheelchairs like sports games, and i hope that they will have a wheelchair for me when “home” comes out
