Lair Update

491 0

Wow, even I didn’t see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features – such as leaderboards and medal systems – have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4.

  • @DaChinPin

I forgot to mention that you were wrong again!

I only spent $651.95 with tax not $660

    AND!!!!!

I can also play movie trailers on mine

  • Ok how many people out there agree with me that they title of this game should be change to “Liar”…..
    I still love my ps3 though:0)

  • Demo before release or Lair Bombs. The Choice is YOURS!

  • “I’ll add the “fun but by the book” JRPG Enchanted Arms to the list of enjoyable games as a JRPG fan.”

As a JRPG fan, I can state without reservation that Enchanted Arms is garbage.

Save your money and buy Persona 3 when it comes out on August 14th. Remember, PS2 games play on your PS3.

  • Deviation I might just buy it. How much is it going to be?

  • I agree, Persona 3 is going to be fantastic and is definitely BY FAR the better choice.

Persona 3 comes out August 14th only in a special edition with a free soundtrack and artbook, for $50.

  • @Deviation

if i wanted to play PS2 games on my PS3 i would have saved the close to $700 price tag after sales tax obviously and just never bought the PS3 to begin with

    THE PS2 SHOULD BE DISCONTINUED!!!!

BUT INSTEAD DISCONTINUES THE 20GB PS3 AND NOW 60GB PS3

    SONY WHERE IS THE LOGIC????

  • Loucifer

The money. The PS2 is still selling like crazy. They might even keep selling them after 10 year life cycle if they’re selling a lot. We might actually see the PS2 being supported until 2012. Now wouldn’t that be something?

  • Hey guys! I am new to the blog and just wanted, in a sentence or two, introduce myself. I own a 360, Wii and PS3 and am a college student at Georgia Tech. I am currently playing Super Stardust HD like no other. Hopefully I can bring some unbiased insight and have some good conversations. Short and simple, now lets get to it…

Oh and my PSN ID is CommanderLander, so befriend me and lets compete on the friend leader boards. BTW, that name was not meant to be serious.

So I am reading everyone’s comments and the general consensus is that the demo will make or break this game. And I agree. Before the news of the EGM score, this was on top of my list. Now I am skeptic. If there is no demo released, count me out. If the Demo sucks, count me out.

So to Mr. Ryan Hamlyn… you have failed to capitalize on releasing your game during the “summer drought” period. Now, the reality of your situation is that you are releasing the game along side with Heavenly Sword and Warhawk. Good Luck, and I hope the game rocks, I really do.

On a positive note, holy crap the PS3 is looking good this August/September! The more I play Heavenly Sword the more I get excited. It could be huge, to the degree of GoW huge (come on 9.8/10 ign). Then pile on Lair and Warhawk… jeez. Maybe that will be enough to shut up my 360, who will not stop talking smack about Halo 3.

  • so many delays -______-

come on sony bring on the games already

  • @DaChinPin

    I KNOW DUDE…ITS SAD!!!!!!

MS killed the xbox when 360 came out…yea it sux to kill a system thats not yet lived out a complete life…

BUT EVERYONE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET THE 360 THEREFORE = HIGH 360 SALES

There are sacrifices to make when wanting to make money…but Sony is not making the necessary sacrifices and making all the wrong decisions

There is no incentive for PS2 owners to switch…no incentive for studios to make PS3 games…and with all the bad decision making skills all i have to say

If Sony is so concerned with PS2 sales…then the PS3 should NEVER have been released…

  • BTW this may be a bit off topic but EVERYONE should check out what the NY Post has it todays paper

  • YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! thank you im still downloading them. I cant wait to play them!

  • LOL…according to gamestop…now Uncharted & Heavenly sword pushed back 2 weeks

  • Figures man wats with the Hardly any games being relesed or being delaid. Just hope its worth it cause im gettin a little bit miffed at sony and its lack of good games for this year. Hopefully when lair is acctually relesed it will be the turning point for the PS3! =) GL Sony

  • ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

  • I’m bummed that this game got delayed. But I hope whatever improvements you guys are making are worth the wait.

  • Lair is a huge failure

  • When PS4 comes out i dread 2 think how long a game is going 2 take 2 make!!! :-/ I’m sure(i hope!)this time next year there will be some top games out 4 PS3;)

  • Hey if anyone wants to hook up on psn my name is Link01, message me if you like. Now as we all know Lair was delayed during the summer game drought. Not cool for us ps3 gamers. But still. We must be bright and optimistic in the sense that ya it was delayed but by the end of this month we won’t care because warhawk will shine in our homes, then next month Lair and Heavenly Sword will shine *ps3 sales will sky rocket and 360 fans will debate on buying a ps3*, then Home and Ratchet and Clank come bringing more joy. After this Haze, Unreal Tournament, and other killer apps will come to the table and then, of course we’ll all be broke and occupied with games by then with nothing to worry about, with no repetitive play (no games getting old….resistance…).

PS: I own Resistance, Motorstorm, and Oblivion as of now on the ps3…. I’ve prebought Heavenly Sword, Warhawk and Lair *debating on buying Haze or Ratchet and Clank (they both look good but Haze has co op online)

  • First GTA 4 and now this….. >:(

  • Darkendless

Yeah it seems that way. It’s looking like the whole EGM bad review thing is starting to ring true.

  • ok guys they aren’t doing anymore testing on Lair. The only reason it got pushed back 3 weeks is they couldn’t mass produce in a week and half. give factor 5 and sony a break. The PS3 is the hardest peace of equipment to program for

  • Will our most anticipated games ever be released on time? Waiting for a finished products is starting to get old.

  • Too bad, i was really excited about getting this game august 14th. Now its pushed back into a crowded september.

  • HAHA, youv gotta be kidding, i cant believe EGM, a pack of xbox 360 trolls, would make any effect on anyone. you notice how every single other company that reviews gave it 5 thumbs up, including IGN, gamespot, gamepro, and every other review i’v ever seen loved LAIR, if you read EGMs review you notice they complained about their sucky skills in controlling their draggon..well you can change the sensitivity on the tilt so that should never become an issue. and then they shouted and complained about boring, i find riding a dragon through skies filled with other dragons that can only be defeated in fierce battle..slightly off the mark of boring lol. EGM has been trolling their heads, going in circles around the Xbox 360 and thats no surprise. its been going on for a while now. i’d highly suggest you try the game or at least listen to the dozens of other positive reviews before EGMs one negative one.

  • Just Press A » “Lair” scheduled for 09/04/07

    […] from the ps.blog. […]

  • In the mist of all things Sony… Id like to point out that releasing Lair on 9/4 and Heavenly Sword on 9/12 is probably among the worst ideas ive ever heard. Now I understand the need to have games on Ps3, mine currently has Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the Motorstorm Demo (not much on racers but 3 laps is fun from time to time), but seriously. You blow your load in between the release of Metroid Prime 3 and Halo 3. Nintendo drops Metroid at the end of August as to not have it completely over shadowed by the juggernaut that is Halo 3. (9/25/07)

Given Ps3 owners could careless about the Wii or the 360 but the ones of us who have all 3 gain a new perspective. I want Lair and Heavenly Sword badly (add MGS4 and God Of War3 and you get why i bought a Ps3), but to launch 2 AAA games in the same month only weeks apart and right before the biggest release in gaming history….. Why? (lets face facts people halo3 will sell Millions in a short span between 12 midnight and 1am on its release date)

Why have your best games of the year over shadowed in just two weeks. I agree with getting 1 out there but to loose both in that madness?? Why not release Lair in august and patch it over PSN in september. Then you have a game with a month life span before your next release, which still should be at the beginning of september to avoid that whole Halo3 problem.

Nintendo knows this. Metorid Prime 3 drops in August as to not have to get lost in the shuffle. Its a fps definning moment for the Wii, a real make or break. (Red Steal sucked so if nintendo cant make fps work, no will on the Wii) So its a big deal for them but they didnt do a september launch. (Aug27th, why not push it to september…. because halo 3 will win that month hands down)

  • well we can all say halo 3 is big, but to be honest halo in itself is getting really tiring. its never brought anything new to the table, and, to be honest, its success is beyond me. i love all the systems i think they are all fun but i do believe that halo in general isnt that great. In comparison both GoW and RFoM brought more riveting and exciting concepts then halo ever has, including gas gernades that explode into giant clouds of flame, chain saws and more. while halo still sticks with the average gernades, pistols, snipers, and machine guns with nothing really special about them at all. i dare to say that the only thing that keeps halo alive IS its fanbase and not the game itself. its all of the people playing the same game that makes it that much fun and not really the game itself wheras GoW and RFoM both could (and do) make great games on there own, with or without other people.

some of you really are clueless though, i have to say. telling sony to release it anyway and patch it through augest? that has to be the worst thing to do, seeing as how people would play it, it wouldnt be finished, and not buy it whether patching is going on or not. what sony is doing is far smarter then you think, they know about halo 3s big fan base, with that they have three options. release one unfinished game now and then one AAA in september to combat halo 3? no, starve the ps3 longer by waiting until after halo 3s launch? no, or you could release TWO AAA games, loaded up and ready to be played and loved, to combat halo 3.
think about it, a smart man would choose option 3. but i dont see why people decide to try to convince sony of what to do…it has no effect on us whether they make huge bucks or small ones, sony is already rich. so giving them producing advice is not too smart. you shouldnt really care if the games have to combat halo 3 or not, how does that effect you at all? if you like the game buy it, if you dont then dont, simple. you arnt going to be getting any of sonys money so trying to shoot them in the face with your “master” advice on how to successfully sell video games isnt going to change anything for you or them.

  • bummer :(

  • I could care less about the halo series but the delays are becoming really unbelievable. I’m really considering just selling my ps3. I totally stopped buying 360 games in favor of ps3 games because of what looked like a turn around for Sony but that turn around looks like it will not be happening soon. It seems as if we and I say we because i’ve spent tons of money with Sony, we have become scared that Microsoft and Nintendo are giving us some competition and that the brand isn’t selling itself. Sony I am becoming very skeptical about whats going on and I hope that my money is not going down the drain. Sony get off your lazy butts and do what we’ve become so accustomed to and that’s Sony being far and above the best console system out. If that means dropping the price to $399 then do it, if that means buying exclusives then do it, whatever it takes it needs to be done because frankly i’m sick of hearing about nintendo and microsoft.

  • Regardless of if you think 2 games is good to comabt halo 3…. Im concerned of the droughts sony is having.

Warhawk, Lair and Heavenly Sword in a 3 week period. What do they have left… Nothing else remotely grabs my attetion away fromt he wii or the 360 till next years release of MGS4. Thats bad. Very bad.

You have 3 AAA within 3 weeks of each other then 2 weeks later you get the media juggernaut of the 360’s halo franchise to wash away all their buzz.

Sure PS3 only fans will not care about halo3 and will keep a constant vigil on the horizzon for the next AAA game, but for the rest of us PS3 owners who have 1 or more other next gen systems…. Where is the hope for christmas. Some of you point out UT3 and Rachet & Klank.

UT3 is on PC, its also preferable there by most but ive heard rumblings of mouse keyboard support on ps3…. regardless it is avaliable else where.

Rachet & Klank is it folks, October brings the last AAA Sony exclusive title (to my knowledge and i just scanned the gamestop site) Sadly i never liked Ratchet and Klank so im down to next year, because all the other big games are on 360 too.

(I guess “Home” is a release… but when is Little Big Planet?)

So yeah, to this Wii, 360 and Ps3 owner Sony is just blowing there load infront of M$’s Halo release to sit and watch it sell better than all 3 of its AAA titles. Thats disappointing

  • @ShaggyB

I will be picking up Warhawk; Lair, and Heavenly Sword, before Halo drops.

Then after Halo I will be getting Sing Star NBA08, Folklore, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Haze, Socom for PSP and PS3, Ratchet & Clank, and Unreal Tournament III. Then on PSN we have; Home, Little Big Planet, Echocrome, Pain, and High Velocity Bowling coming.

Then after the holidays I am getting Killzone 2 and MGS4. That’s just the games that can’t be played on 360.

My cross platform gaming list, Call of Duty 4, Assassin’s Creed, Brothers in Arms, Simpsons-for the wife. Next year GTA VI and Star Wars, The Force Unleashed.

I think that it will be all right.

  • @Shaggy

You missed one or two for your list. Drake’s Fortune is hitting in Nov. and that’s one i’m definitely picking up. Haze is also a timed release and that’ll be here about the same time. There’s also Eye of Judgement but i’m less intersted in a card game. Who knows though, the people who’ve tried it out seem to be impressed.

Have you checked the trailer for Ratchet and Clank out? I was going to pass on it until i watched that.

Outside of games, we have the upcoming release of the EYE and Home as well. These two have me almost as interested as the exclusives. I love the innovations that next gen stuff can bring to their systems and Sony looks like they’re trying to make an effort.

As to next year? The big names that jump to mind are MGS, infamous, Killzone, And Littlebigplanet (which will be betaing this year and released early next.)

I think there’s a fair amount to be interested in. to be unbiased i’ll list the 360 titles that’ve caught my eye. Bioshock (ps3 version in 08?) Halo, and Mass Effect of this year and Alan Wake, Dead island, and Too Human for the next.

On a final note.. I’m curious as to how your 360 is playing? I’m suffering through multiple freezes in demanding games but so far no red rings of death. I’ve heard that they’ve finally corrected the heating problems plaguing their console but despite that, i’m still buying ps3 versions of any multiplatform game out of annoyance. I mean… what kind of company sticks their head in the sand and says “there’s no problem ” for almost two years? Deliberately ignoring the complaints of your customers for that long? I guess if Sony took a cue from Ms, they’d force out Lair in a buggy version and grudgingly fix it in… hm.. 2009?

  • Lair should release a Beta before the actual game is shipped. They obviously have a great game but like any other software product, it will have a lot of problems. The challenge is not to make the perfect product, but to make the product perfect for your audience.
