Lair Update

+ Posted by Ryan Hamlyn // Associate Producer, SCEA

Wow, even I didn’t see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features – such as leaderboards and medal systems – have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4.

Lame… If it came down to “community features” it should have been a downloadable upgrade… Not holding the game back again… August was the PS3′s salvation, and now you’re making the drought even worse…

Seriously, this is getting annoying…

I didn’t read thru the other 450 so comments cuz im new but it was shocking news that a lot of games recently have been getting pushed back. GTA,Stranglehold, Blacksite, Lair, among others. I am very dissapointed to a certain extent. I hope the few rumors i heard about Warhawk possibly being pushed were false. My question is, are the achievements related to HOME im assuming they are and if so is it so complicated a process it couldnt have been done with an online update of some sort like built into firmware. Thanks and I hope that early review from EGM doesnt discourage anyone from buyin this almost sure to be great game.

I just have one question. ok… If it is a simple QA prob with leaderboards and medals, why can it not be fixed by a simple update via download. Just curious… kinda makes it seem if it’s a problem like that it should be no problem to fix and not a 3 week push back.. very upsetting for a lot of people i know for it to be pushed back. Especially since Heavenly Sword is out soon after. It will definately screw up sales if people didn’t aready have preordered lair.

Sony, Sony, Sony. At first I was mad about this, but now I have come back down to Earth and I reconngnize the fact that it will be for the better. But the fact of the matter is is that Lair, Warhawk, and HS are way to close together. But you can’t delay them again or you will alienate your fanbase. Pull forward the release dates slightly to give your fans good news and to keep them happy, or at the very least keep them on track. Give us good content on the Network until these games can get released.

Release dates should be taken with a pinch of salt. |The trick is not to arrange your life around a release date! =) Games that release bang on the date are usually rubbish games i.e Movie cash-ins. Games are always being pushed back, its nothing new.

Personally I don’t understand when you guy say Sony lied. When did Sony lie? When it can close for Lair to come out the game wasn’t read. If the game wasn’t ready, the game was ready. PERIOD”

If you think Sony doesn’t lie you’re dumb. First the PS3 ‘price drop’ was a bait and switch. Now the Lair game ‘goes into manufacturing’ just to be cancelled and delayed again. Now tell me if that’s not lieng to every fans’ face?

@ sarshelYam

I don’t know which logic you’re having trouble with, I wish you had of elaborated. But if I may, I think you are speculating….or assuming about the cause of delay and giving them more credit than they deserve….we’ve been lied to before, and there’s a possibility we’re being lied to now. For all we know, they aren’t fixing anything, for all we know, last week was a lie just to “tide us over”….see what lies do to your fanbase ? they (the fanbase) start mistrusting you, it’s hard to believe someone when they are pathological liar.

And the point isn’t the amount of the delay, I couldn’t care less, but the fact that almost every thing Sony has “promised” us, has been delayed. Why bother with telling people a release date in the first place ? Why not just say, “We’re working on getting it out to you as quick as possible without sacrificing the quality of the game.” There, nice little truthful statement, it would tide me over.

Also, companies seem so definitive when they announce the date, like it IS set in stone, they even enforce it in interviews, but then they come around and say, “Nah, that wasn’t the REAL release date, here it is” and 7/10 times, that’s not the REAL release date either.

What the hell is the point of a “Release Date” in the first place then ? Developers and Publishers should keep their big mouths shut and let us speculate. They shouldn’t announce a release date, until the thing goes to press……wait……that doesn’t work ether, dang !

I see many peoples’ points, but I’ve worked in a few pressure industries, and delays, though they happen, are never good, and someone always pays more and usually the consumer pays less…but in this industry, it’s the opposite, the consumer pays more, and the industry sits back and laughs at the apathy of gamers.

Also, not to labor the point, but if it was simple leaderboards, etc. then, as it has been suggested many times, why couldn’t that have been patched ? I too am tired of my “Delay-Station 3″

Sony, I love you, and do try and stand behind you, but lately I don’t know…..give us back our faith.

I’m behind you 100%. If Warhawk gets pushed back I’ll be buying a 360 to tide me over and give my PS3 to my little brother. I’m sick of delays and false promises. Sony was only being kept fans quiet because of the August-September line-up which supposedly caters to everyone, but now every one of those games are being pushed back. I hope Warhawk doesn’t get pushed back like Lair. If it does screw the delaystation 3. From now on I’ll do everything to keep my friends from doing the same mistake I did by buying this $660 heater. Next-generation you’ll lose billions more at launch because noone will want to be early adopters you dumbasses.

Well, so long as it makes the game better, I don’t care how long it’s delayed (within reason). If it increases the quality of the product, then, by all means delay it for as long as they need.

“Why not just say, “We’re working on getting it out to you as quick as possible without sacrificing the quality of the game.””

Because you guys keep [DELETED] for them to tell you dates. You can’t have it both ways.

“That’s all you care about? You don’t even care that the only game that’s fun is RFOM?”

Why not? Why wouldn’t his only concern be Lair being a great game if he’s going to buy it? I don’t know why they’d delay it for something like Leaderboards since everyone’s buying this for it’s epic single player action but it’s only 3 weeks. I’m waiting that long for Persona 3 so it’s not a big deal after you get over the initial shock. It’s not like gamers ever get good games in the summer, so it’s not a big surprise.

And RFOM is not the only fun game, what are you trying to pull. I’m enjoying the “good but average” JRPG Enchanted Arms and Motorstorm and Genji (the only thing bad is the camera, the game is still fun) and Ninja Gaiden Sigma ofcourse.

“I’m sorry but I’d be pissed if I wasted $660 at something which isn’t being used for anything.”

Well done fanboy, you’d be pissed if you had spent money huh. You don’t even own a PS3 and you’re mouthing off…way to troll the Playstation Blog, spend your money then you earn the right to mouth off. Go play whatever system you do have, or do you have so much free time because you don’t have any games to play on those?

I’ve seen ALOT of good comments and bad comments with ALOT of people making REALLY valid points and some nonsense…bottomline is…

What will Sony do next to make us believe that they hear us and a change the delays?

Hey guys! I am new to the blog and just wanted, in a sentence or two, introduce myself. I own a 360, Wii and PS3 and am a college student at Georgia Tech. I am currently playing Super Stardust HD like no other. Hopefully I can bring some unbiased insight and have some good conversations. Short and simple, now lets get to it…

Oh and my PSN ID is CommanderLander, so befriend me and lets compete on the friend leader boards. BTW, that name was not meant to be serious.

So I am reading everyone’s comments and the general consensus is that the demo will make or break this game. And I agree. Before the news of the EGM score, this was on top of my list. Now I am skeptic. If there is no demo released, count me out. If the Demo sucks, count me out.

So to Mr. Ryan Hamlyn… you have failed to capitalize on releasing your game during the “summer drought” period. Now, the reality of your situation is that you are releasing the game along side with Heavenly Sword and Warhawk. Good Luck, and I hope the game rocks, I really do.

On a positive note, holy crap the PS3 is looking good this August/September! The more I play Heavenly Sword the more I get excited. It could be huge, to the degree of GoW huge (come on 9.8/10 ign). Then pile on Lair and Warhawk… jeez. Maybe that will be enough to shut up my 360, who will not stop talking smack about Halo 3.

BUT EVERYONE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET THE 360 THEREFORE = HIGH 360 SALES

There are sacrifices to make when wanting to make money…but Sony is not making the necessary sacrifices and making all the wrong decisions

There is no incentive for PS2 owners to switch…no incentive for studios to make PS3 games…and with all the bad decision making skills all i have to say

If Sony is so concerned with PS2 sales…then the PS3 should NEVER have been released…

Hey if anyone wants to hook up on psn my name is Link01, message me if you like. Now as we all know Lair was delayed during the summer game drought. Not cool for us ps3 gamers. But still. We must be bright and optimistic in the sense that ya it was delayed but by the end of this month we won’t care because warhawk will shine in our homes, then next month Lair and Heavenly Sword will shine *ps3 sales will sky rocket and 360 fans will debate on buying a ps3*, then Home and Ratchet and Clank come bringing more joy. After this Haze, Unreal Tournament, and other killer apps will come to the table and then, of course we’ll all be broke and occupied with games by then with nothing to worry about, with no repetitive play (no games getting old….resistance…).

PS: I own Resistance, Motorstorm, and Oblivion as of now on the ps3…. I’ve prebought Heavenly Sword, Warhawk and Lair *debating on buying Haze or Ratchet and Clank (they both look good but Haze has co op online)

EGM has been trolling their heads, going in circles around the Xbox 360 and thats no surprise. its been going on for a while now. i’d highly suggest you try the game or at least listen to the dozens of other positive reviews before EGMs one negative one.

In the mist of all things Sony… Id like to point out that releasing Lair on 9/4 and Heavenly Sword on 9/12 is probably among the worst ideas ive ever heard. Now I understand the need to have games on Ps3, mine currently has Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the Motorstorm Demo (not much on racers but 3 laps is fun from time to time), but seriously. You blow your load in between the release of Metroid Prime 3 and Halo 3. Nintendo drops Metroid at the end of August as to not have it completely over shadowed by the juggernaut that is Halo 3. (9/25/07)

Given Ps3 owners could careless about the Wii or the 360 but the ones of us who have all 3 gain a new perspective. I want Lair and Heavenly Sword badly (add MGS4 and God Of War3 and you get why i bought a Ps3), but to launch 2 AAA games in the same month only weeks apart and right before the biggest release in gaming history….. Why? (lets face facts people halo3 will sell Millions in a short span between 12 midnight and 1am on its release date)

Why have your best games of the year over shadowed in just two weeks. I agree with getting 1 out there but to loose both in that madness?? Why not release Lair in august and patch it over PSN in september. Then you have a game with a month life span before your next release, which still should be at the beginning of september to avoid that whole Halo3 problem.

Nintendo knows this. Metorid Prime 3 drops in August as to not have to get lost in the shuffle. Its a fps definning moment for the Wii, a real make or break. (Red Steal sucked so if nintendo cant make fps work, no will on the Wii) So its a big deal for them but they didnt do a september launch. (Aug27th, why not push it to september…. because halo 3 will win that month hands down)

+ Stevan253 on August 8th, 2007 at 3:40 pm said:

well we can all say halo 3 is big, but to be honest halo in itself is getting really tiring. its never brought anything new to the table, and, to be honest, its success is beyond me. i love all the systems i think they are all fun but i do believe that halo in general isnt that great. In comparison both GoW and RFoM brought more riveting and exciting concepts then halo ever has, including gas gernades that explode into giant clouds of flame, chain saws and more. while halo still sticks with the average gernades, pistols, snipers, and machine guns with nothing really special about them at all. i dare to say that the only thing that keeps halo alive IS its fanbase and not the game itself. its all of the people playing the same game that makes it that much fun and not really the game itself wheras GoW and RFoM both could (and do) make great games on there own, with or without other people.

some of you really are clueless though, i have to say. telling sony to release it anyway and patch it through augest? that has to be the worst thing to do, seeing as how people would play it, it wouldnt be finished, and not buy it whether patching is going on or not. what sony is doing is far smarter then you think, they know about halo 3s big fan base, with that they have three options. release one unfinished game now and then one AAA in september to combat halo 3? no, starve the ps3 longer by waiting until after halo 3s launch? no, or you could release TWO AAA games, loaded up and ready to be played and loved, to combat halo 3.
think about it, a smart man would choose option 3. but i dont see why people decide to try to convince sony of what to do…it has no effect on us whether they make huge bucks or small ones, sony is already rich. so giving them producing advice is not too smart. you shouldnt really care if the games have to combat halo 3 or not, how does that effect you at all? if you like the game buy it, if you dont then dont, simple. you arnt going to be getting any of sonys money so trying to shoot them in the face with your “master” advice on how to successfully sell video games isnt going to change anything for you or them.
