Comment Monitoring

188 1

Since we launched the blog we have been extremely liberal in our monitoring policies because we wanted you guys and gals to get to know each other and share ideas. Lately, however, we have been getting complaints that there is so much noise accompanying each post that people can’t separate the good meat from the chatter. We definitely hear you. So, we are going to step up our moderation of off-topic, nonsensical posts or posts on topics that we have already addressed (Yes, we hear you on wanting more demos … consider that box suitably checked). If you have suggestions not related to the particular topic of a post, please use our comment form.

  • Well thank you, this is all i wanted to know, that you guys are working on getting us more demos. thank you

  • Thank you, I too was getting sick of the spam, and melodramatics, and to be completely honest I was responsible for a couple rant/over the top posts that weren’t really related to the topic at hand, and I appologize for the very few times I have created a post of that nature, I just want to add, that it’s nice to be updated like this, even a post of this nature, and thank you for the excellent PSN updates this week, not one demo, but two… and an add-on for Blast Factor.. plus wallpaper, and trailers… At this point I can’t find it in my heart to be dissapointed that we didn’t get the psOne games that are on the PSN in Japan, and honestly I was expecting to be upset about that, I’ll gladly wait for Wild Arms and Armored Core, etc, now…
Great job Sony, and affiliates, keep up the great work, and just to let you know we ps3 gamers in majority are very happy with this new PSN content update.

  • I kind of knew that Sony would start regulating sooner or later. I am going to miss the days when Sony anounce a new game or update on this website and someone would say, “DEMOS!”. I always laugh when I see that. Its a good point, but it is off topic.

However, I just hope Sony don’t take away people’s rights to be a jerk. Americans respond heavily on this blog. It would be a shame to take away that right. I’m not aware of myself getting off topic. I may in the eyes of others but not myself. Somethings can be off topic, but something that are off topic can relate heavily to that particular topic.

The point is that, I understand what this site is trying to do, but with that being said, I hope that they are liberal with this regulation. Only thing that make me wonder, as far as off topic is when Sony anounce a game but the tread would be about TV resolution or 1080i vrs 1080p and 720p. Thats alittle nerve recking.

Lastly, I hope the devs for this site focus on improving the site more than regulating it. When I say improvement, I mean adding a edit button to people comment and give people a personal page so they can introduce themselves. Things like that.

  • I hope you hear us also wanting more ps1 games on the store too, other than that and in-game xmb then im cool :)

  • LOL couldn’t help but eventually notice the irony that my last post probably seems like a spam post–but I figured it would be cool to contact you through that page rather than to try and find a loosely connected topic to try and say what I wanted to say–so please fix your Contact Us page on this board so it doesn’t glitch with the ‘Your remarks and invalid’ thing.

It is pretty cool that you guys are upfront about implementing changes tho—cool to see this blog isn’t a big ad hehe!

  • Thank you. I will try not to post off-topic stuff anymore.

  • Thank you, Patrick. I believe you should be less liberal with the “filtering” of some users. As not everyone wants to see grown men cry like children/ see kids get on here and type worse than parents possibly could. Thanks in advance.

  • Finally!!

Thanks goes to Patrick and the rest of the PS Blog staff. I was getting tired of looking at the comments.

Someone mentioned, that maybe we could have the ability to vote up or down on comments?

That way you guys could check easier who and which comments are worth and which are not.

Thanks again for continuously improving this blog.

  • even if some topics are off topic, if its important concern, it shouldnt be ignored.

you just need to hear us louder

  • Patrick, some of the OT comments are quite valuable. Anyone that has spent anytime on the official Playstation forums knows what an exercise in futility that can be.

In the process of discussing some issues, certain comments by necessity involve the competition. Not the ignorant “My console can beat up your console” talk but rather legitimate matters that deal with things such as community features, game features, etc. It is moronic to consistently reinvent the wheel when there is a decent model available on which you can improve and build.

But the inability to say the word Microsoft on the official forums leaves concerned people with no outlet for trying to voice an opinion on a legitimate issue. SO some of those come here.

The valuable OT comments in a thread in no way comprises the bulk of the OT comments in a thread. But that doesn’t make them any less important. I agree it clutters valuable blog posts and responses so another solution should be pursued. As for the spam posts, condoms are supposed to prevent such idiocy but every now and then a swimmer eludes the trampoline.

Also I would suggest the current poll be rotated more often and link to a blog section where comments can be posted about that particular poll.

  • good to hear sony… keep it up…

  • No offense, but posting the comments here where we knew YOU saw them and OTHER PEOPLE saw them was the one bit of security we had. The “contact us” bit is… Well, it feels a bit like a brick wall or black hole. We have no solid sense we’re getting heard in that case.

  • You guys did the right thing. Every time I read a blog and want to comment on the topic, all I will see are requests for future firmwares or a wishlist instead of actual comments that pertain to the main article itself. I think you should have a wishlist section to hear our ideas or requests. I may use it too.

  • I am definitely happy about this development. I commented a little in the first few days of the blog, and promptly lost interest because comments simply get lost in the swamp of nonsensical chatter having little to do with the post. I guess what will eventually needed to be added is a rating system, that will bury offensive, off topic, or nonsensical posts, and allowing good comments to stand out.

  • Thanks for the pruning. This will streamline the blog up a bit.

  • PLEASE ALSO PUT A STOP TO THE POSITION CALLING

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks about time i can read comments and make them with out having to hear people cry about Ingame XMB or Home and Wallpaper stuff and Demos thanks :-)

  • I’m extremely impressed that you CEOs and Senior Managers and whatnot all take the time to read our comments. If you have to delete the junk comments then that makes perfect sense.

  • 50 great post, and good work Sony. I was getting sick of al the guys who were yellling in every post I WANT XMB IN GAME–I WANT MY OWN MUSIC IN GAME—-I WANT MY PS2 AND PS3 GAMES RUNNING AT 1080I–I WANT BLABIEBLADIEBLA.

Sony knows want whe want and in every article the same questions over and over again is disturbing the focus of this blog.

STOP SPAMMING this blog, stick to the point and stop bashing the PS3 and Sony. If you want that go to Major Nelsons blog, on that blog you can live yourself out on bashing the PS3 and Sony.

When whe stick to the point it is easyer for Sony to pick comments really related to the article.

  • Good thing! It adds more value to this blog, which I still find a great idea!

  • Awesome @ post # 50. No more people spamming the blog up. Keep up the good work Sony because we will always support you.

  • thank you, its been needed for a while

  • Thank you for taking this step :)

  • I think its unanimous, THANKS!
The unfortunate phenomenon that was occurring was probably exactly why you didn’t have this type of vehicle in the past but the blog is GOOD, its good for the industry & its good for our platform.
Unfortunately, people forget that there are human beings on the other end of these little notes we write. Generally those people are doing their best to meet & exceed our expectations.
It is okay to be passionate but lets be respectful & try to motivate rather than denigrate.
The PSN service is FREE!!! Praise the lord!

  • Thank you ,Sony! There are some fanboys that keep spam these posts.

  • Yeah. This is a really good idea. Reading 500 comments for one post is impossible (well possible but not practical). Especially when a lot of these comments are simply “Thank you”, “Awesome”, “NOOO”…etc. It would be great if you enable comment threads, so that you can group related comments together for a single post.

    Cheers!

  • Saying that 500+ posts are impossible to read, you have to remember this is an open forum; open to all the Internet using world. Keeping the posts down to those that actual qualify as quality posts is impossible.

I’m sure I probably have posted similar things to what have already in posted if not in this thread than others. I’m not reading 500 posts to figure out if what I wanted to say was already said; it’s easier to just post and say the heck with it. Lazy? Yes, but at least I know my point was made.

  • this is excellent news. you should also tap into GAP members to help out ;)

if i was a gap member i would :) (little too obvious right)

  • @128 Haha, I think you just summed up 90% of the posts on the PSN blog. “Awesome!”

  • Great, thanks for the stricter moderation!

  • Nice! Sounds good to me.

  • I LOVE YOU SONY!!!!!!!!!!

  • finally a reason to register…

  • Good to hear there won’t be as much clutter :) Thanks!

  • je suis le seul francais ici, cool, bon je v parlé en anglais quand meme.

This blog is very great !! It’s a fantastic idea ! thanks sony !

ps3 sales increase ! it’s very good for all of playstation fans and sony

    it’s just the beginning !

ps3 have the best future with incredible games , etc… ( home , killzone 2 , uncharted, afrika, H sword, lair, resistance, motostorm )

Home is just HUGE !! like other games of sony.

all is ok , even nintendo and microsoft are more powerfull for this consoleswar.

But sony knows the future, it’s the ps3…

” we aren’t the best when we think it , but when we know it “

  • Good job. I was actually not visiting the site as much, nor commenting because it was becoming so cluttered and off topic.

  • Hmmm….I sense this is the beginning of culling of anything remotely crticial being said about Sony on this blog.

If you want a rah rah cheerleading team, that’s fine, but for those of us who *don’t* have our heads in the clouds, it’s too bad.

  • “(Yes, we hear you on wanting more demos … consider that box suitably checked)”

    You hear us?
I hope so, b/c I just sent you a message about something that deeply concerns me via your contact us form.

I hope you are listening and I hope you respond.

  • Good move Sony, and Im glad to hear that you have the demo “box suitably checked”

    Warhawk delayed! :(

That off topic post was NEEDED. Holy [DELETED] Sony, why delay Warhawk. We know its ready, we played the full game! :(

  • Errr…. I’m trying to use that comment form…Typed up a huge comment, suggestion…But I keep getting the error >

    ERROR: Your remarks is invalid.

Anyway, heres the comment as I don’t know why my comment is invalid :|

    >>>
    “Hi,
I’m located in Trinidad (Caribbean). Ever since purchasing my Playstation 3 Console on my visit to Canada in February of this year, I have been unable to register a playstation network account for my country.

I did however register a canadian account, but in turn cannot change the country address to any other.

To keep things simple, I’ve been dying to purchase content from the Playstation Network. There are so many titles I would gladly buy if i could. But me just like many many peers in this Country and many others across the Caribbean are unable to do so.
(And just to add-in, the demos of PSN Titles are so amazing I’ve gotten my parents to play games such as Nucleus, Super Rub-a-Dub and Go Puzzle… Its clear what the PSNetwork is doing is great for gaming as a whole..)

I do in fact have a US Address which is my shipping address and I would like to change the country, Canada to the US…but Account Settings on the Playstation 3 doesn’t allow such changes. I can change every other address detail but the country…

To further back-up my point, I’ve read comments on this here blog about other users being unable to register an account for their country and in turn being unable to purchase content from the PSstore.

If the Playstation Store is this revolutionary Online Game Distribution Network, there should be a structure in place to support the entire world…Right?
My friends who own Xbox 360’s in this country can easily purchase content from Xbox Live accounts…

I can honestly tell you that the Playstation Brand is hugely successful in my country and the Caribbean as a whole…. but little issues like this have been delaying people’s want to purchase a console.

Please address this Playstation Network issue, as I really wish to register an account with my correct country and billing information.

Besides…Once all that support has been added for the Playstation Network, = much more income for Sony…

Thanks for your time, and again please address this issue…I wish to have the best Playstation 3 Experience!”

  • CitizenInsane

This is in no way supposed to offend you. But do you seriously think Sony would waste their time reading everyone of our posts, and even if they did that they’d go ahead and write up our suggestions to devs? I’m sorry but you’re too gullible. This is the gaming bussiness. They don’t have to do anything we say because we were already tricked into buying their console with false promises. And put A LOT of false promises in that. This modding feature is great. However it will often silence many great posts about real issues that need to be taken care of soon as possible. I do however hope that you guys clean the earlier threads of spam as we still post on them also. Now we hopefully will hear something about issues that need to be settled.

Sony if you do read this blog like you say you do, then answer the questions by saying at least “We’re looking into it and we’ll post more about it as soon as we can”. Many fans are already pissed by the fake promises. My post is kind of off-topic I know but this is important. I’m not spamming and will say this only once. Stop making promises you can’t keep otherwise come next-gen you won’t have a fan base of which to get money from.

  • @TheApprentice

Add me. I will tell you how to do that. PSN = blizzard182

To keep this things on topic..

I used to had that problem with the comment thing. Actually I was able to send a comment today but I always had that problem.

And I can think only one option why we don´t have the Edit option. You could easily say something and then take it back. It is more like auditory. I don´t think is a bad thing. I am just guessing.

  • aaquib

Warhawk isn’t delayed and you’re also off-topic. However if Warhawk is delayed I’m sure many people will be pissed off.

  • @aaquib

You are watching the Europe Amazon. Their release date is Q3 2007. I think thats the problem.

  • It seems like Sony put more effort into this damn blog than they do their games.

We want to play. Not read rate each others’ comments

  • Thanks for the GRAW 2 demo Sony, it was pretty awesome. I never thought I would like that game, but after playing the demo, I am sold.

Keep those demos coming…. I just hope you guys do more than just check the box.

  • Seems like a good thing to monitor comments.

I know it’s a little off subject, but I do hope some new avatars for the PSN show up soon. Maybe some Heavenly Sword or Folklore…

  • I also tried using the comment form, but it did not work, so I posted it here, then you guys deleted it. Not cool. I’m going to repost it saying it is my comment form so you know:

    ——————————————–

I think this was posted because of me, sorry about spamming, but you’ve been telling us you hear us and still nothing while you are letting XBOX Live get all the multiplatform demos. The only one we got before them was Gundam. But seriously Sony, step the game up, don’t tell us you hear us, show us you here us, give us the multiplatform demos that XBOX Live already has, such as:

    NASCAR 08
    Juiced 2
    NCAA 08
    All-Star Football 2K8
    Fatal Inernia
    Harry Potter OOTP
    The Bigs
    Stuntman Ignition
Surfs Up (odd they got it and we didnt seeing as the movie was made at Sony)
    Vampire Rain
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
    DiRT
    Blacksite: Area 51

I’m gonna stop this seeing as my point was made. You guys said you stopped OPM because you can provide demos on the PlayStation Network. Well, what about the PS2 demos? We can’t even get those anymore thanks to the cancelling of OPM. I mean, I’d understand if no new games come out for PS2 anymore, but there still is. We should of seen demos for:

    God of War II
    Final Fantasy XII
    Okami
    Shin Megami Tensai: Persona 3
Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007

And demos were already released for these games as some were playable at GameStops and what not. Sony, come on, don’t disappoint us fans of you guys, we want your service to exceed the XBOX Live service, but it doesn’t seem to be doing that right now.

Also, on the PlayStation Network, the ability to change our country would be nice as I have a friend who is moving and he does not want to make a whole new PlayStation Network ID because he needs to change his country. Also, a comment on the taxes on the store. I really think they are kind of stupid, because we can only add amounts of $5.00 to our wallet, so when I added $5.00 about two months ago to buy RAMPAGE: World Tour, it costed me like $5.61 and I didn’t want to add another $5.00 cause’ it was a giftcard.

    ——————————————–

Now, I’m not trying to be rude or anything in that, I just want you to be better than XBL, you guys know your the best.
