PS3 Stress Test

+ Posted by Dave Karraker // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications

A lot of noise has been made recently about the reliability issues of one of our competitor’s systems. So, not surprisingly, some of our more ambitious PlayStation faithfuls decided to run their own stress test on the PlayStation 3. They put it in a freezer at zero degrees for up to 108 hours and they put it in a sauna at 120 degrees for up to 64 hours — all the while running games and Blu-ray Disc movies on it. Did it fail? Nope. Like the Energizer Bunny, it kept going and going and going. Probably not something you want to try at home, but our thanks to the guys at PS3 Vault for putting our system through the ringer. Check out their full report.

Im from Peru and we just had an earthquake here 2 days ago of magnitude 8.0. My PS3 survived and is intact although some objects fell and hit it. Talk about indestructible.

Btw, my family and friends are ok too. :)

Off topic.

You guys and gals at Sony should buy the rights to M.U.G.E.N.

If you don’t know what that is, it’s a 2D fighting game engine in which people get to create their own fighters, and download sprites of characters from other games like Dragon Ball Z, Street Figther, ad infinitum. There are no limits to the amounts of characters you can have, and it’s a global phenomenon.

Its perfect for the PS3 because characters can be saved on the HDD and you can make a mint off of downloads.

You should REALLY consider it. I know tons of people who LOVE the game, and it would bring a lot of sales to the PS3. Even if you just put the Engine itself on the PSN for download, you can still make a lot of money because it would be great using a console controller and possibly other features that you can’t get on a PC in that game.

Think about it.

It’s perfect for your user centric business model.

Well, I am from Brasil and there aren’t earthquakes here, and if one day it happens, I know that the PS3 wouldn’t take any damage, but I need one before taking any more conclusions, so please Sony, I am begging, look at us carefully, examine the situation, and launch the PS3 here as soon as possible, with affordable prices. We brazillians and latin americans would really enjoy it, that wold be awesome!!!
Think about it, I am praying hard for it.
SONY RULEZ!!!

This goes to TCampbell76 and the other haters and fools that prefer to close their eyes and don’t face the fact that PS3 is the best console ever. It’s just a matter of time till it gets back to where it should have never left: the TOP.
With more time for developing, you’ll all see it happens…

Yeah, too bad the power supplies just die for no apparent reason and then have to be replaced.

Yeah, the PlayStation 3 is a very well build machine, like a military tank!

Xbox 360 is a poorly build box like a cheap, wrecked car!

IKEA test your playstation.
it’s nice to know i can move to a dessert and it will still function ;)

Sony didn’t cut corners where Microsoft did, at the end of the day investing in slightly more expensive components will pay off in the long term, and the 1billion dollar Microsoft issue kinda solidifies that point.
plus the more you use of the more expensive components the cheaper they will eventually come.

This is exactly why I put my faith in Sony and their system rather than the other one.

Sony, what the heck! Why won’t you release these demos! First Lair, now Ratchet! Why wait?! And what’s with not giving us 3rd party game demos, Xbox Live get’s them! I thought you were listening!

Man that news is hilarious. Sure i do believe that Sony’s system’s are always durable. Heck my PS2 is running fine since past 6 years. But still Testing the durability of a system like this is pretty absurd and hilarious. Good job Sony for making such a tank like system.

If the PS3 is so indestructible, then why do the demo PS3’s at the stores freeze up? I’m just sayin….

In the 6 months I have had my PS3 it has froze 3 times! My 360 lasted only 5 months before croaking…

I just saw the PlayTV release and noticed it’s only for DVB-T. Is there going to be a DVB-C model for us Cable users! it’s CABLE TV where the high quality HDTV resides… the terrestrial HD streams are quite garbage in comparison…

All i have to say is NINTENDO WII! It’s the best system. i have the Ps2 and i loved it until i got the wii. i could not wait for the ps3 and then i heard about game publishers not producing many games for it. i was disappointed.. I have played both xbox 360 and ps3 and i must say Nintendo is taking you both to school.

My PS3 was working very well until suddenly the fan started going crazy. I hope I’ll be able to transfer the hard drive contents to the new PS3 i’m sure to get when I make my claim.

I’ve heard a few stories about this happening to other people. At least it’s not as bad as the 360.

This is a little of subject but I would like to see the PS3 with its own chat client to bring the online comunity to geather. Like yahoo messenger or aol somthing of that such so u can meet new ppl all over the world and add them as a friend or play a game with them. Righ now u have to know some one eles with a PS3 in order to add them as a friend or chat with them. But if we had a comunity of chat rooms we could meet new ppl.
