New Blog Features Arrive!

+ Posted by Patrick Seybold // Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

Hey everyone, you may recall last month we wrapped up our reader poll asking what features you’d like to see added to this here blog.

Downloadable high-resolution images, a desktop widget and a subscribe-via-email option were the top 3 requests - and that’s exactly what we’re adding here today. Take a quick peek at the sidebar —–>

Multi-Megabyte Images Await
We have a growing collection of images and artwork from PlayStation games available via Flickr. Each image is available for download at multiple resolutions, most of which scale up to 1280 x 720 and/or 1920 x 1080, and a few that are even bigger than this for you bandwidth gluttons. We’ll be adding new pictures to this collection fairly regularly, so we’ve also created a separate image feed (RSS) that you can subscribe to if you’d like to be notified of updates.

You Love the Blog, Now Get the Widget Too!
We’ve created a PlayStation.Blog widget that lives on your desktop and automatically pulls in all of our latest blog posts. We’ve got two flavors for you guys: one for the Mac, the other for the PC. The Mac widget is your standard OS X Dashboard Widget (download here), and the PC version uses Yahoo! Widgets. Note that you’ll need to first install Yahoo!’s Widget app before you can download and use this PC version.

You Can Never Have Too Much Email
We’ve added an option to subscribe to PlayStation.Blog updates via email (this is in addition to our RSS feed and is provided via the same service, Feedburner). Simply click on the email icon, enter your email address and hit “subscribe.” Once you verify that you’re indeed human and your email works, you’re all set. As we publish new posts here, you’ll automatically receive updates via email.

That’s it for now. It bears mentioning, while info is - and will always be - our priority and focus for you guys here, how you access this info is a matter of preference that can take a lot of different shapes. Hopefully these new features give you a few more options to consider, and at very least, make this blog a little more useful. We’ll be looking into some additional blog bling down the road, most of which involves things you’ve commented or emailed us about, but if you have any additional ideas, let us know. Thanks everyone.

Pretty sweet with those hi-res images. Would be even more awesome if you made some kind of wallpapers out of those screenshots though!

I have an idea for the image feed!!

You could release some Blog-exclusive PS3 wallpapers that we can use! I’m talking ones that actually work on the PS3, and you can see the white text on top of (The Street Fighter Puzzle wallpapers don’t work at all as wallpaper). I like how they’ve been doing the bar across the top of the PS3 wallpapers to allow for the XMB.

Good idea or no?

nice new blog feature

@14 - all I want is 1 game from Sony I cant put down! Im more disappointed with every new game that comes out - I will exclude warhawk from that list but its still not what the PS3 consel needs! I enjoyed your comments but they will soon delete it. they did mine!

That is so funny, i was thinking an Igoogle program would be cool. I use I-Google for all kinds of information to post on my home page at work and would love to see that functionality. (Besides, Google and Microsoft don’t play well so why not rub Microsofts face in it?)

i still think the blog is a mess, the fact that we can’t reply to a commenter with a single click instead of having to type out the users name or refer to what number post they were. Do something about it! It’d make things run alot easier.

@Zampano, I completely agree with you on that. Censorship just makes things worst in my opinion. The parents are the ones taht are supposed to prevent their children from doing anything “wrong” I’ve grown up on horror movies, violent games, and i’ve never committed a crime, never did drugs, etc. I’m 23 and love violent games! I know that the things in GTA are wrong! Thats why I did it through the GAME.

Bah, keep up the good work anyway

For those on a Mac and are behind the times like me and still running Panther, you can use the Yahoo version Widget. You just need to download the Mac version of the Yahoo Widget Engine.

I like this update :-).Is there a chance that we will be able to download high res videos via PlayStation Blog once it’s updated again? If not, I’m cool with it, but I think it would be a nice feature.

Well, both you guys and us know that the blog isn’t perfect - but the fact that you guys are listening is all I need to know. Fantastic work.

You now have everything I’d ever want from a blog except a podcast which features in-depth interviews… if only.

Keep it up.

As you (Sony) seem to pay attention to us (the users) I would like to make a request. I’m very happy that you decided to let people run Linux on their PS3s, I don’t like that you have denied access to the RSX but I can cope with it.

So, my request is that I (and presumably many others) would like an icon in XMB to launch into Linux. It’s ain’t pretty now when you need to change your default system each time you want to boot into Linux.

If you implemented this I would be very very happy. And please try to explain why you have cut off the access to the RSX in Linux, please.

Thank you for the good work so far!

Yay for new blog features, but… I’m sitting here with Lair, crashed at the leaderboards and afraid to turn it off because I’m downloading a bunch of stuff…

In any case, crash notwithstanding, why haven’t you guys done anything about Lair since it’s release yesterday? Why is the release date still listed as the 4th on the official site? I have it here, it’s playing it’s epic music (not much else, though, because I can’t even access the PS button menu) You guys should feature it now that it’s released like you did with Warhawk…

Except this crash and some MINOR control issues, this game is pretty good. Not worth being pushed under the carpet simply because IGN and PSM had a stick up their butts about motion control. Seriously… Feature this game!
