Lair Update

Posted by Ryan Hamlyn // Associate Producer, SCEA

Wow, even I didn’t see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features – such as leaderboards and medal systems – have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4.

I could care less about the halo series but the delays are becoming really unbelievable. I’m really considering just selling my ps3. I totally stopped buying 360 games in favor of ps3 games because of what looked like a turn around for Sony but that turn around looks like it will not be happening soon. It seems as if we and I say we because i’ve spent tons of money with Sony, we have become scared that Microsoft and Nintendo are giving us some competition and that the brand isn’t selling itself. Sony I am becoming very skeptical about whats going on and I hope that my money is not going down the drain. Sony get off your lazy butts and do what we’ve become so accustomed to and that’s Sony being far and above the best console system out. If that means dropping the price to $399 then do it, if that means buying exclusives then do it, whatever it takes it needs to be done because frankly i’m sick of hearing about nintendo and microsoft.

Regardless of if you think 2 games is good to comabt halo 3…. Im concerned of the droughts sony is having.

Warhawk, Lair and Heavenly Sword in a 3 week period. What do they have left… Nothing else remotely grabs my attetion away fromt he wii or the 360 till next years release of MGS4. Thats bad. Very bad.

You have 3 AAA within 3 weeks of each other then 2 weeks later you get the media juggernaut of the 360’s halo franchise to wash away all their buzz.

Sure PS3 only fans will not care about halo3 and will keep a constant vigil on the horizzon for the next AAA game, but for the rest of us PS3 owners who have 1 or more other next gen systems…. Where is the hope for christmas. Some of you point out UT3 and Rachet & Klank.

UT3 is on PC, its also preferable there by most but ive heard rumblings of mouse keyboard support on ps3…. regardless it is avaliable else where.

Rachet & Klank is it folks, October brings the last AAA Sony exclusive title (to my knowledge and i just scanned the gamestop site) Sadly i never liked Ratchet and Klank so im down to next year, because all the other big games are on 360 too.

(I guess “Home” is a release… but when is Little Big Planet?)

So yeah, to this Wii, 360 and Ps3 owner Sony is just blowing there load infront of M$’s Halo release to sit and watch it sell better than all 3 of its AAA titles. Thats disappointing

@ShaggyB

I will be picking up Warhawk; Lair, and Heavenly Sword, before Halo drops.

Then after Halo I will be getting Sing Star NBA08, Folklore, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Haze, Socom for PSP and PS3, Ratchet & Clank, and Unreal Tournament III. Then on PSN we have; Home, Little Big Planet, Echocrome, Pain, and High Velocity Bowling coming.

Then after the holidays I am getting Killzone 2 and MGS4. That’s just the games that can’t be played on 360.

My cross platform gaming list, Call of Duty 4, Assassin’s Creed, Brothers in Arms, Simpsons-for the wife. Next year GTA VI and Star Wars, The Force Unleashed.

I think that it will be all right.

@Shaggy

You missed one or two for your list. Drake’s Fortune is hitting in Nov. and that’s one i’m definitely picking up. Haze is also a timed release and that’ll be here about the same time. There’s also Eye of Judgement but i’m less intersted in a card game. Who knows though, the people who’ve tried it out seem to be impressed.

Have you checked the trailer for Ratchet and Clank out? I was going to pass on it until i watched that.

Outside of games, we have the upcoming release of the EYE and Home as well. These two have me almost as interested as the exclusives. I love the innovations that next gen stuff can bring to their systems and Sony looks like they’re trying to make an effort.

As to next year? The big names that jump to mind are MGS, infamous, Killzone, And Littlebigplanet (which will be betaing this year and released early next.)

I think there’s a fair amount to be interested in. to be unbiased i’ll list the 360 titles that’ve caught my eye. Bioshock (ps3 version in 08?) Halo, and Mass Effect of this year and Alan Wake, Dead island, and Too Human for the next.

On a final note.. I’m curious as to how your 360 is playing? I’m suffering through multiple freezes in demanding games but so far no red rings of death. I’ve heard that they’ve finally corrected the heating problems plaguing their console but despite that, i’m still buying ps3 versions of any multiplatform game out of annoyance. I mean… what kind of company sticks their head in the sand and says “there’s no problem ” for almost two years? Deliberately ignoring the complaints of your customers for that long? I guess if Sony took a cue from Ms, they’d force out Lair in a buggy version and grudgingly fix it in… hm.. 2009?

Lair should release a Beta before the actual game is shipped. They obviously have a great game but like any other software product, it will have a lot of problems. The challenge is not to make the perfect product, but to make the product perfect for your audience.
