Lair Update

Posted by Ryan Hamlyn // Associate Producer, SCEA

Wow, even I didn’t see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features – such as leaderboards and medal systems – have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4.

Is it really for QA testing or improving the game more? Doesn’t matter anyways. Having more time at least hopefully means a better game in the long run.

Why is there always a Summer drought?
Shouldn’t it be the time when most games come out, Summer being the period when kids are out of school and people are on vacation?

103

terminatorvsmtrx  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:33 pm

im with sony all the way.. but these delays are getting out of hand, as far as i remember at one point lair was set for a november 07 release, then july 25th and then august 7th, then august 14th and now this… either way im glad our games arent getting rushed out.. lowering the quality.. i have a lot of faith in factor 5 but releasing these two games at once will do nothing but lower sales for the two games in their opening month, I cant have two games at once!

104

terminatorvsmtrx  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:35 pm

@115
i know man, in the summer all i want is new games and i always have to wait for fall/ holiday.. its complete crap if u ask me

105

hevnsMirage  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:35 pm

Excited…don’t make me laugh. Thx to Factor 5 screwing us over. Now, I can’t play Lair over summer, and as for Sept. 4, some of us are busy with college and work. You’d think that with all the other delays we’ve seen from Ubi, a first party game would actually release on the intended date that its loyal fans have been waiting for for almost 2 years. Fix the dang mistakes before you announce it “going gold and manufacturing”…and here’s a bandage for the millionth time you’ve shot yourself in the foot.

aaquib  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:37 pm

@115,117

I agree as well. Why are all the publishers waiting till Fall to release thier games? We all know the main sellers are going to be: HALO, UT3, HAZE, Uncharted, and Ratchet and clank. Im at home right now with nothing to do except watch interviews with Sony, while I should be spending my money on GAMES!

terminatorvsmtrx  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:38 pm

AT LEAST GIVE US A DEMO TO HOLD US OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHO HERE DOESNT WANT A DEMO?!

108

TheManGone  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:40 pm

terminator, i know having two games at once is not really good you never get to finish one or at least that is how i feel. its over whelming sometimes. and really 60 bucks for a game is too damn expensive. i bought forza and the 360 scratch it now i cant play it. i feel like throwing my 360 out the window.

109

hevnsMirage  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:43 pm

If the demo is as short as Heavenly Sword, then count me out.
Oh and I have complete faith that the fixes causing this untimely delay will definitely boost the EGM score from 6.0s to 9.0s. No doubt about it…What am i saying! I’ll take the game as is, just add a patch if ya need to.

110

TheManGone  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:44 pm

i need to buy a game and i think warhawk is going to be the next one being bought at a retail store.

111

thefjk  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:45 pm

TAKE YOUR TIME… no point putting out games that are half-finished, no matter how bad the consumers demand them! They’ll appreciate it later when they play an awesome solid game…

…Being a consumer though, leaves me with one more statement… “We want Lair NOW”, “We want Lair NOW”!

112

Al2x  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:48 pm

Live in your world, Get delayed in ours.

Just freaking say it already: it was delayed because you guys want to put Trophies in it, and the only way to put trophies in it is to have HOME, which in turn has also been delayed.

Remember that little note on your virtual PSP, “Home Beta – July,” guess what, no more home beta. Skip the beta and it will just go to the release in September, in which Lair comes out.

Quit the [DELETED] and tell the truth.

113

TheManGone  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:48 pm

@ 124 yea i agree with you. one part says i want it to be quality good then another says no i want it now. but you cant have both and i choose quality over quantity. whatever the case may be please dont delay socom. i really really really want that game this year.

114

AssassinXIII  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:49 pm

give us a demo

thanx

115

TheManGone  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:50 pm

@126 i dont think home is coming in september

116

Kratos_ate_Snake  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:52 pm

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA
lol just doesn’t cut it anymore this days.

That is the funniest crap ever. We all know why the game got delayed and I said it before. Somebody played it and said

Sombody- “this game is awesome, but it is mad buggy, fix this and…….”

Lair guy- “but we already confirmed a release day.”

S- “this game will get a 7 at best”

L- “your right will make it perfect.”

I would of said that the manufacturing machines were struck by lightning and will be up and running on September, but their excuse works fine also.

117

TheManGone  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:53 pm

ign has its release date for oct

@sandman

Great comment bro.

@ Ryan

“Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features”-Ryan

So did the game get pulled back off of the production line, or is this something that needs to be fixed on the Lair servers or both? That is one hell of a confusing statement Ryan, you should get into politics. LOL

Anybody that believes that you can make any significant changes in three weeks to programing that took 18+ months is a fool. The game must have not actually went gold or to production, otherwise this would be not even be a possibility. What has been done with 100,000 copies that were already stamped? We were told it was gold to keep us interested and keep the hype machine rolling along. I have been a Sony supporter for years but I have personally had it. Home open beta…delayed, Stranglehold, GRAW, HS, Motorstorm tracks, RSV, Calling all Cars, Dirt…delayed, delayed, delayed. And getting rid of OPM because we would be getting all of our demos on the PSN seems like a really good idea right now too. Sony, please wake up!

121

RoAcH2285  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Wow, didn’t they just have a post that said LAIR was complete, and were for sure set on august 14th.Then I believe he said it was already in the mass production or something I’m not exactly quoting it word for word here, and wouldn’t that mean that they were past the “QA testing”(threw a quote in there why not) part of development if they were in fact mass producing the game for shipment. It could be lies or it could be error and not to point the finger but……the proof is in the blog.

LOL!

123

gamer812  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Delay is alright I guess. Can we at least get a demo to past the time?

124

ace2ace  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:59 pm

please give us a demo of the game if your going to delay it… that way we can have something to drool over until it comes out…

125

xplosneer  |  August 1st, 2007 at 5:59 pm

@TheMadGone
Correct:
October 4th.

Half_life000111  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:00 pm

No…. no, why. Ok I want to talk to the guy in charge now. This can’t happen, alot of people right now don’t care… ALL THEY WANT AND NEED IS TO GET THEIR HANDS ON A GOOD NEW GAME. Listen the ps3 has had a drought of games for a while now. The list looks amazing and astounding but patience is killing everyone. Screw the online medals. Come out with an update on PSN to fix this AFTER THE GAMES RELEASE. You can fix this after the games released. PS3 owners need this game asap and have been wating since Motorstorm came out, that’s a LONG TIME. FIX IT WITH A PSN DOWNLOAD PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Patience is killing us, and that’s not good.

127

JimmyHACK  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:00 pm

OK i can live with a couple week delay again, we are getting used to delays sadly…

THE REAL QUESTION IS: Is Heavenly Sword now delayed so that not to have two huge games release on same day???? Cause I’m all for 2 huge games on the same day, but i can see Sony putting a gap between the two releases.

128

lonewulf_19301  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:01 pm

lame….now what are we going to play?

129

Half_life000111  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:02 pm

Ryan Hamlyn, please read this in this blog and take a bug fix on PSN as a consideration, the people in Japan waited a while to get online mode in motorstorm, which was fixed by a PSN update, but were happy with the game. Do the same thing. PLLLLLLEEAAAAASSSSSEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

130

RoAcH2285  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:02 pm

Oh, and by the way.I lucked out on this because I was wanting a good fresh game to play soon.So my choice was between “LAIR” and “Madden 08″.I pre-ordered Madden, cut it close there.

131

androvsky  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:04 pm

Okay, these things do happen. A demo for Lair in early August (this Thursday, maybe?) would go a long ways to help ease gamer’s troubled minds, and I suspect a couple of really nice ps1 game downloads would help a great deal too, at least until Warhawk comes out.

Don’t listen to #145.

We care, get it done and release another good game for the PS3.

134

@ Sony
So you delayed the most anticipated game for us. Now give us a great demo for that same game ;) .
Thank You
K. Pepe

Kratos_ate_Snake  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:08 pm

Warhawk the 28th and heavenly sword the same day of release.

Heavenly sword demo was awesome, even if it was 3min short.

Warhawk beta was awesome. every one who has played it loves it.

Lair? nobody has played it…… Unless this game comes out, and it is a AAA, 9+/10 reviewed title, it will be completely over looked.

The fact that they said that we would get a demo in july and we didn’t, makes you think.

Of course, we also got told that the heavenly sword demo was “coming soon” and it came out 2 months later.

“Don’t listen to #145.

Of course we care, but wouldn’t you rather get the game Aug. 14 and the bug fix Sept. 4. That would be better, take advantage of PSN.

i dont care about this delay to much
it better not be no delay with warhawk

Godofwar55555  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:17 pm

I guess it is all right as long as the games quality increases, I did not know Lair was going to have online leaderboards and stuff, cool. I hope a demo on the PSN is available soon, it cannot wait for this game.

P.S. Since it is coming in Sept and Home will come in October will Lair have In game Trophies? I hope it does.

Half_life000111  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:21 pm

It’s simple, use a PSN update, everyone agree!!!!!!

142

Kurse  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Take all the time you want, the kids at EGM killed the excitement for this game anyway.
While you are in there tweaking how about some fallback analog controls for those who h8te Suxaxis?

143

Chuck-FN-Norris  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:23 pm

It would be a miracle to see a demo of this game now…

The EGM review hurt IMHO.

144

blizzard182  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:24 pm

ok…

*bump*

In the end, what it matters is that you have a nice game to play so it is “ok” to me.

Thanks for the update.

Although I thought that you guys said the game is in production = all test done.

Anyway…

Can we at least get a new screen shot to go with the post? To quote a Dr. Evil, “Come on, throw me[us] a feakin bone here!”

I’m really TIRED of these delays, every single game for the ps3 gets delayed, i hope this changes with time. So now my only hope is to get a demo this week. Guys keep this in mind that sales are gonna be affected, there are so many good games coming out in september 1 clear example HEAVENLY SWORD.Like i said before i HOPE to see a good demo this thursday to mitigate my emptyness.

148

Half_life000111  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:29 pm

JUST PUT UP A PSN DOWNLOAD TO FIX IT………… support this idea people!!!!!!!

PS3_GAM3R  |  August 1st, 2007 at 6:30 pm

I have a feeling they are delaying this to counter HALO 3. Don’t bash me now, but this is what I think.
