5 Things You *Don’t* Know:
THE EYE OF JUDGMENT

309 6

Over the last few past few months we’ve been touring the gaming convention scene with THE EYE OF JUDGMENT. We’ve received tremendous feedback from many of you at the San Diego Comic Con, Wizard World Chicago, GenCon & Penny Arcade Expo. There were lots of great questions out there, and we thought it would be good to do a quick recap of the “5 things you don’t know” about THE EYE OF JUDGMENT.

1. There is only one “E” in JUDGMENT
First off, not to sound like a middle school teacher, but I wanted to clarify the proper spelling of the word “JUDGMENT”. Notice that there is no “E” after “JUDG”. With apologies to our UK gamers, this is the correct spelling – according to Wikipedia (and no this definition wasn’t doctored by me or other SCE employee’s…figured I’d beat some of you to that snipe).

2. Pricing = $69.99
Yep, you’ve heard it here first. The SRP for THE EYE OF JUDGMENT software bundle in the US is $69.99. The bundle includes the following:
• THE EYE OF JUDGMENT software (disc case, manual, Blu-ray disc)
• PLAYSTATION Eye camera
• Judgment (camera) stand
• 9 Fields Battle Mat
• (1) Starter deck (includes 30 Summoning Cards + 4 Function Cards)
• (1) Booster pack (includes 8 randomly inserted Summoning Cards with one guaranteed to be rare or ultra rare)

Additionally, Summoning Cards will be sold separately in the form of Booster Packs and pre-constructed Theme Decks, available by Wizards of the Coast.
• Booster Pack: SRP = $3.75
• Pre-constructed Theme Deck: SRP = $14.99 (Five different Theme Decks available. Each fully playable and include a bonus Summoner’s Companion book with background, play tips and card lists)

3. Availability
THE EYE OF JUDGMENT will ship to North American stores on 10/23 to sync with a global launch by the end of October. With a global rollout, gamers on the PLAYSTATION Network will be able to battle against fellow EOJ players from around the world.

4. Expansion Packs
The October launch of THE EYE OF JUDGMENT and its Summoning Cards introduces the first in a long series of card sets available for play. Stay tuned for further announcements on upcoming expansion packs and new Summoning Cards. Each new set will consist of more powerful creatures and spells to introduce new strategies and gameplay mechanics to refresh the EOJ gaming experience.

5. Online cheating
The most popular question we’ve heard revolves around online cheating. Mainly, “What’s going to prevent players from ‘stacking the deck’ when playing online?” – meaning, cheating your card draw so you get your best cards from the start. Fortunately, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT introduces a new paradigm in drawing cards when playing against your opponents online. First, you’ll have to register and save your Summoning Deck, offline. Then, when logged on, you select the Summoning Deck you wish to play. Once paired up with your opponent, the PS3 will automatically shuffle and randomly pull your cards for you. Once these cards are selected, you must pull these cards from your ‘physical’ deck and draw them to your hand and play the Summoning Cards on the Battle Mat, as normal.

Take a peek at a new video that we created to help outline this completely unique gaming experience merging the best of two worlds – video games and trading card battles. Enjoy!

  • LOL 40cal know the feeling. just kicking back with your best friends and chilling. we call it loser weekend.

  • Just got word that Heavenly Sword didn’t even break 100,000 it’s 1st week in sales… Even worse, it didn’t even break 80,000 WOW! That’s a huge blow to Sony. It has to be. Warhawk plummited down to 22,000 units aswell. This is Sony’s problem. Right here… the system is so damn expensive, anyone who has it can’t buy games for it!!! I’ve only seen 2 million sellers on the Ps3… Resistance and Motorstorm

  • I look for Warhawk’s servers to go dead next… much like Calling all cars. Hell, you can’t match up with anyone on MK2 or Tekken 5. Motorstorm has like 5 people on at any given time. I can’t believe this… What a travesty.

  • @edwineverready
Hells yeah! Its great to get rid of the ladys for a couple of days.

  • The Warhawk servers cant go dead, my PS3 is my server. And there where a ton of people playing Tekken 5 last night. Do you even know what you are talking about.

  • i life in amsterdam. for me a good gaming weekend means weed and munchies. and gaming until your eyes pop out of your head. don’t do this that often maybe once every two months.

  • I just want to know how much the camera is. Being I am not into card games at all.

  • i don’t know if they are going to sell the cam with out the packedge. i do hope so.

  • @ everyone exept gamesblow.

I support gamesblow, hes totally right. And hes a hardcore sony fan. hes just trying to inform Sony so they dont go under like Sega did with the dreamcast.

  • Go DEAD!!!! Not DOWN!!! I said GO DEAD!!! Warhawk servers will soon weed out into the abysmal abyss of nothingness, like Calling all cars did 2 days later. It’s a joke. Sony… SELL SOME GAMES & SYSTEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fox_savage another microsoft employee. how many do they employ DAMN

  • Here you go again with your negativity, But i am still happy you told us one plus point of the ps3. i do hope the Prozac will cure your depression.

  • agreed, very cool. just one question, with EoJ, what will keep a user from shuffling or picking a 2nd card or something. need to scan your hand in before you start and have the deck on screen with possibly a tag on the back of the card so the game knows what you have when online.

  • 60, No, he is just a Troll giving some real facts, but so many false ones that it’s obvious he doesn’t know what he is talking about.

His best claim: “I work in a store selling PS3 and the Sixaxis is too expensive”

Price from most stores, but you can check Amazon if you want:

    Sixaxis: $39.99
360 controller and rechargeable batterie and power pack: $39.99 + $39.99 for a whooping $80.00
Wiimote and Nunchuck: $29.99 + $19.99 still more expensive than the sixaxis.

If he does really work in a store, he would know those facts!

In fact, with his attitude, I’m quite glad is won’t be old enough to work in a store for many years to come : )

Back to the main subject, Eye of Judgement is a first day buy for me… Just wish the camera was bluetooth since my keyboard, mouse, headset, and controllers are wireless, but I guess I’ll live with it…

  • i was always happy that the eye toy never cost much especially when you consider the bundle price.

i might have to pick this one up. i really just want the camera, but its seems like a pretty sweet deal. the anti cheat protection is a great idea, i just hope registering the cards is too much of a pain.

and in closing, i’m happy to know that even marketing managers get to enjoy the fine experience that is the internet blog/forum arena. but as much as i’m glad they read what we write, i’m sorry they have to deal with everything else…. :[ but so does everyone else. [:

  • I’m excited about this game.

What about people that try to copy cards with a color copier or something? Will fake cards still be read by EoJ?

  • Retail, sixaxis 49.99 Amazone, used… 39.99 You’re so out of touch with your Wang Dang, you might need to go relieve some stress, snork.

  • same here first day buy. better quality chat. scan my face in to killzone2. and a lot of other cool features.

  • 64, read point 5 again… “Once paired up with your opponent, the PS3 will automatically shuffle and randomly pull your cards for you. Once these cards are selected, you must pull these cards from your ‘physical’ deck and draw them to your hand and play the Summoning Cards on the Battle Mat, as normal.”

  • Gameblow: Just checked again, still $39.99, here’s the link. Free shipping too : ) There’s only one, so you cannot miss it : )

    http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-3-Wireless-Sixaxis-Controller/dp/B000K1CS5Y/ref=sr_1_1/104-1032535-7148766?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1190345397&sr=1-1

  • Real,

    http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802580

there’s only one.. make sure you double check, though. LMFAO! You’re talking amazone, wholesellers sell junk their to get rid of depleted stock. It’s not retail. It’s amazon. an online bargin bin or flea market, if you will.

  • ignore gamesblow. it’s only negative energy. don’t need that in my life.

  • I don’t have the time or money to get into this game, but I’ll get it anyways, for the eye toy and to relive my childhood card fantasy. It seems awesome though.

  • Sony. Plain and simple. the first 30 seconds of that video NEEDS to be made into a commercial. The End.

  • Gamesblow, you can pay more from another store if you want…

Still, if you take Gamestop prices, the sixaxis is only $49.99 and the 360 controller is $49.99 + $29.99 with the charge kit and the Wiimote and Nunchuck are $39.99 +$19.99 (and I’m forgetting the charge kit for this one)

So even in your more expensive store, where you get the same brand new item as in Amazon, the sixaxis is still way cheaper than the 360 or Wii controller…

So please, tell me again why you find it expensive???

  • Dude, Amazon list low prices to entice people, much like yourself, into buying it… Then when you go to check out you see they’ve tacked on nearly 74% shipping charges, which would bring the total up to what you’d normally pay.

Amazon is no deal. Trust me.

  • theme packs = how many cardS? any why are they 15 bucks when yugioh is 8 for 61 cards. come on here wizard.

  • Hmm cheaper then I thought it would be.

  • Gamesblow, I gave you the price from your very own Gamestop web site…

But I can also tell you that I bought many items from Amazon, they always had free shipping for items above $39.99 and shipping is lighting fast. You should try them : )

  • Those Heavenly Sword sales ended on the 15th, and the game wasn’t even in stores until the 13th, so for a few days of sales, 80K is really good.

  • 78: The included deck is 30+4 cards, so I guess we could assume that those them decks will likely be about the same… What I’m wondering about is: will there be rare and ultra rare in those decks since there are “theme” decks… Otherwise, it’s booster packs at 8 cards for $3.75 times many packs… Ouch.

Maybe some good deals on Ebay : )

  • Cagalli if that’s true… I’d be very impressed and happy. I don’t know the validity of that, however. The sites are touting 80,000 for the week.

  • gamesblow, if you look on vgchartz, it clearly says, week ending 9/15.

  • Everyone knows Sony is in the crapper as far as their situation goes, but nothing on the 360 interests me, and I’m just way to much of a Metal Gear/ God of War/ (Anything from Naughty Dog or Insomniac) fan to go anywhere else.

As long as the games I want come out for this system, I’m the winner. How much the hardware sells doesn’t preoccupy me. That’s Sony’s job.

Comon Firmware 2.0, don’t disappoint me, I just want to be able to voice chat with my friends in the background of any game, I hate being tied to the chat room.

  • @gamesblow

Do you appreciate the irony of what you’re saying? According to you, you’re doing the best you can to sell the ps3 above all other consoles…. I think you said you sold 40 something in the last couple weeks…

Continually dumping all over Sony on their own blog is just going to DISCOURAGE people from picking up the console. I’ll admit that most of the stuff that’s posted here is intended to make the Ps3 look good but you’re p1ssing all over their attempt to impress potential buyers.

ON topic… i’m planning on picking up Eye of judgment if only for the Eye. 70$ seems like a pretty decent price for a mic + motion sensing camera.

As to other games coming out for the EYe?

    Trials of TOPOQ
    Operation creature feature
    Eyedentify
some fishtank game ? more of a demo.
a flying exploration game. Forget the title.

Those are the ones i’ve heard of .

  • Yeah, that is a bit misleading for them to do such a thing… Heavely sword probably well surpassed 120,000 in sales its 1st week. While not amazingly terrific, it still a strong seller. Sony needs all of them they can get. On a system with only 2, 1 million sellers… things get pretty scarce, folks. More so for the online community.

  • @ general – am glad you all agree that the ‘price is right’. I hope it drives more people to be one with their inner ‘geek’

@ general – stay tuned for more games, applications and software support for the PLAYSTATION Eye in the near future

@ general – EyeToy is PS2. PLAYSTATION Eye is PS3. (sorry, had to throw that in there)

@9 – stay tuned for more announcements on the PLAYSTATION Eye being available on its own

@38 – you’re correct, the camera looks square on the stand because it sits on a bracket when on the “Judgment” stand

@46 – sorry, that would be impossible (and a form of gambling that we don’t condone…)

    @50 – I’ll keep an “eye” out for you. I’m hooked too…

    @66 – AMEN to that

@67 – Wizards of the Coast has some incredible printing process that will prevent that. Besides would you play with ‘proxies’?

@70 – Thanks for answering 64. Good to see community helping each other, instead of HATING on each other

@72 – Amazon is definitely a retailer. In addition to their store, Amazon.com supports 3rd party retailers in an online capacity, as well.

@75 – Its in the works

@82 -> 78 – Thanks for answering. And yes there will be Rares in the Theme Decks (I’m trying to remember if there are any Ultra Rares…I’ll check tomorrow)

  • game looks amazingly original and almost fun for me. But yeah like the guy on here said earlier my cards days have long since been over but like the other guy said I guess I could relive them. I remember it was huge when I was in like 4th grade (looooooooong time ago).

That is a great deal for $70. I would probably mostly get it for the eye. camera looks pretty damn sick I only hope that they sell it by itself. More games that incorporate that (singstar) are definate buys for me.

As far as loyalty and other that other hub bub, you should all know that I’m a Sony fanboy.

    Peace,
    Lh

  • Amazon isn’t near the retailer when buying used games and equipment for “Said” console, though… just like Gamestop. The industry frowns upon it. Big time. When a used game or perepherial is sold, it doesn’t go to where it needs to go…

[…] an extremely informative new post over at the PlayStation.Blog chronicling “5 things you don’t know about The Eye of Judgment”, SCEA Marketing Manager Mark Valledor has provided the official ship date and price point for the […]

  • will the camera be sold separately if you dont like card games?
dont get me wrong its a cool idea but its not my thing. aqua vita? ya i want to play that.

  • @gamesblow

I usually get free shipping when I buy from Amazon… The only way you get charged for outrageous shipping is if you ask for next day or two day delivery…

  • Man, I just have to reiterate here… Sony had over 120,000 units in sales last week in japan. With all 3 of their viable products. The psp kicked the DS’s ass. In total it outsold Nintendo’s 2 viable units by nearly 30,000 units. WOW! That’s a 1st. Now, if only the ps3’s sales were that strong by themself.

  • i have to say this, and hopefully, the person whose job it is to read the comments of all the fanboys will finally see a comment and go, oh wait that could be something we could use, its hard when theres so much other crap, anyhow, please make the eye of judgment for magic the gathering, currently mtg online is tedious, stupid and has terrible graphics for avatars and everything else, plus you don’t own physical cards, if you could adapt this to magic the gathering, good god, i will buy 2 PLAYSTATION 3’s and 7 eye of judgments, but if you adapt this to magic the gathering, well then, you have officially made me renounce all other forms of gaming forever, unless its of course, magic, or ps3/psp etc, not only could the eyetoy, eye of judgment whatever you want to call it be adapted to magic, but to the wow ccg, to yugioh for the kiddies, to the star wars ccg, etc etc, i’m guessing that doing the eye of judgment is just a feeler for the market of ccg-console interaction, i think its great, and a very unique take on two very wonderful forms of gaming, thanks again sony for the innovation, can’t wait for the dualshock 3, when it comes out i will join the current generation

  • @gamesblow
$50 (easier to get for cheaper) for the controller is expensive? it’s the same cost as the 360 controler. The PSN games vary based on how much it offers and what they (market test) choose for the price they think people will pay for it (warhawk supposely sold 100k copies in the US alone in a week). The HDMI is so meh if you have a HDTV why the hell don’t you have a cable already and if you don’t it’s $10. the console is $500 (or if you must want to pay it $600 for 80GB) unless your living in last year

Who the hell cares about multiplat games anymore you should be pissed off if a game that came out on PS1/2 that isn’t coming to PS3 then something that’s still playable on PS3 and w/e else

  • what is better the ps3, xbox 360, or wii…..150 comments later

  • my ps3 has 50 ppl on it, please expand…… for crying out loud expand…….

  • i’m a total newb to gravatar, why the hell isn’t my gravatar showing up, mark valledor, cagalli, anyone?

  • @95 hahahahah good one.
    @gamesblow you sucked.
