Warhawk v1.1 Patch and Arbiters

217 4

Hey everyone, its been awhile since I last made a post here. The team and I have been cranking away on support and updates for Warhawk and I thought it’d be a good idea to give you all an update as to what the hell we’ve been up to.

So … since my last post, we’ve launched Warhawk in South-East Asia, Korea and Japan — which now means our community spans 15 different languages!

warhawk languages (by You)

We’ve also been working on a lot of fixes, server-side updates and client patches. Because lets face it, while the team and I were really happy with our launch and players around the globe were having a blast playing, there were some problems that players encountered once we rolled the game out to the masses (stats, connection issues, etc). I’m not going to sugar coat that with a strawberry-flavored, pink, PR candy shell – it’s the truth.

All of that said, we have been hard at work to address the big issues that our Warhawk community currently is experiencing. We have already addressed the majority of our stats-related issues with the deployment of a few server-side updates. These were updates that we rolled out “on our end” without any of the players having to download an actual Warhawk patch. These updates also fixed many of the connection issues. But not all.

The remaining core updates have to be delivered as a client-side patch, hence my next topic – the impending global release of our Warhawk v1.1 patch.

Now we actually have been working on 2 patches — but I’ll talk about the second patch in my next post.

The first update, the v1.1 patch, addresses the critical issues with stats and connectivity. Those two points were the focus of this patch and while they may seem small, they had a huge impact on our player base.

The v1.1 patch is in the last stages of testing right now and should be deployed worldwide by the end of October. Here’s a change list for the server-side updates that we’ve already made as well as what’s upcoming in v1.1:

Server-side updates
* Stat database stability improvements
* Improved server stability
* Max Clan limit changed from 32 to 64
* Viral Rank-up bug fixed and correct for players that were accidentally ranked up.
* “Time-in-Vehicle” Stats fixed so certain awards can now be granted properly.

Client-side updates for Patch v1.1
* Stat connection, fetch/post fixes
* Significantly improved client connection stability
* Quad “????” Ping display bug fixed.
* Added support for Player-Ranked Servers.
* Game synchronization fixes due to fluctuating network conditions (packet-drop).
* Crash fixes for end of game and split screen.

These updates make a huge improvement to the stats and connection issues that some players were experiencing. The team and I know how much of a pisser it is to not get the award your worked for or how frustrating it can be to try and get on to some of the busy, popular servers.

The v1.1 patch makes the world a much happier place … ok, maybe not the world, but at least the Warhawk universe :)

We are also responding to complaints about players that are stat-padding, griefing or just messing with the Warhawk community in general. This is incredibly frustrating for players and we are not taking it lightly!!

Warhawk_Arbiters (by You)

A few weeks ago one of our mods made a post on the Warhawk forums letting people know that kind of behavior will not be tolerated. That was just a warning. Now, to protect the Warhawk community and preserve the legitimacy of our worldwide leader boards, I am announcing the existence of the Warhawk Arbiters. These are members of our online services groups in both the US and Europe that will be overseeing the leader boards, community stats and will also be “in the trenches” joining game servers for first-hand observation. Their PSN account names will remain a secret. They have the authority to warn players, call a player out to prove his or her skills, or render judgment … think Judge Dredd.

Judgment can take many forms, an email warning, forum post, a kick, temporary/permanent ban, or the Warhawk Arbiters can request your Warhawk stats be “cleansed.”

There are thousands and thousands of good, well-mannered players. We will not tolerate a small few messing with our global community. So be warned!!

That’s it for now; I’ll be posting again very soon to discuss the v1.2 patch…

As always, Rock on!

  • well i had a twin last week.. very irritating when someone has stolen your Nickname and looks.

  • thank you for the arbiters

  • Sounds good, but when you say “call a player out to prove his or her skills” what exactly does that entail?

  • @154
It means you go into a lone battlefield where its just you and the arbiter. Sudden deathmatch, 1 on 1!

  • ^so the Arbiters can challenge you if you are the only one in the server.

COOL and i bet they are pretty tough too.

  • oh just for info to you guys that i have a mic and i try to communicate to let my teammates about booby-trapped vehicles or enemy location.

and i would like to see who is talking on the screen (like in resistance) without looking at the player himself and squad option so we dont need to hold the L3 button to talk while moving.

  • I hope you guys feel great about releasing the best game available on the PS3. Warhawk has changed all of my friends minds about the PS3.

The addition of arbiters is great. Plus, it sounds so badass.

Any word on this expansion supposedly coming out in December? or is that patch 1.2?

Warhawk is about having fun, not kills.

  • @ Dylan Jobe

What about Splitscreen for Ranked games? Just give the stats to the registered PSN User and the guests, obviously, don’t receive any points for the stats system. Surely their must be a way to accommodate this.

Playing user servers sucks compared to Sony servers…

  • yes!
First and formost, thank you for your openess and none corporate BS. I think fans really appreciate that and its something thats needed more in the Sony world.

2nd, good news for all Warhawk fans. Mostly the fact that I dont have to redo what my character looks like everytime I jump into the game lol.

But more so, ranked community made servers are an awesome idea. It means I can play co-op with my friends (thats mostly what I play) and have it count as ranked

  • PR spin cloaked as “gamer to gamer” talk is a nice addition but some of us might not buy it. Some of these “chill” responses and posts by the developers of games we play seem too good to be true.
It just seems to me, the more the “cooler” and down to earth developer talk and posts on these blogs, the more likely I am to not believe what they tell me because it’s all just a clever, yet unrealized marketing scheme, like the idea of this blog itself, to make us all feel like someone actually cares about what we want and what we have so say…because if it were true, we’d have PS1 games and more updates on Home.

  • I’m really happy to see that you are taking a lead in trying to prevent and penalize glitchers and cheaters. I so often hear that people quit playing a game (ie: SOCOM) out of frustration with this issue, and having recently been up against a tank glitcher I can understand how it ruins the game for people. It simply sucks the “fun” out of a game.

Kudos for spending the time (and money) to support your game after it’s released to keep the game fun for your consumer base!

  • some of you are so disrespectfull,
seriously, they could just not fix the game at all, so stop your whining.
yes you paid 60 bucks for a “complete game” but have you ever played an MMO?
those things always seem to be constantly broken and you pay up front “good money” and constantly throw money into the well EVERY MONTH for that same “broken” game. you paid 40 bucks, and 60 if you bought the headset package.

thats not even full game price. its not like they tried to gyp you and shipped it broken on purpouse, it was an unforseen error, they are human you realize.

  • definition of a party pooper…someone is having a heck of a lot of fun and there is someone in the crowd who can only get attention by being one who tries to spoil the fun. good idea this arbiters. also fellow gamers time to start a truth group…people who are enjoying their ps3 and when someone gives false information..for example xbox is this but ps3 is no good…set the facts straight…how much longer will they carry on before they grow tired of being so negative….not talking about the people who have helpful suggestions for making ps3 better

  • my profile i stuck at 816games played I’ve played at least 30 games since and nothing has changed except my global rank which keeps getting higher and higher.

My wins aren’t counting I can’t get my Warhawk badges because I keep getting bandit badges. I love the game but if the stats and medal/badge system can’t be fixed scrap them!!!

by the way love the game :)

  • @ naughtyco

You can spin things however you want them, but don’t bite the hand thats feeds you. Furthermore, all you can complain about is PS1 games and Home? Im sure Incognito has plenty to do with both of those things. Its really easy to make someone look bad by only pointing out the negative aspects.

You should first research the relationship between developers and publishers before you post ungrateful nonsense. Marketing scheme? Marketing schemes involve advertising.

No matter what you find things to complain about. If there were 500 PS1 games on PSN you would be complaining about not enough focus on PS3 games or additional content. If you want Home updates they are everywhere all over the net. Just because someone in the HOME development doesn’t post here doesn’t mean there aren’t updates in numerous articles and interviews.

Do not bite the hand thats feeds you. And get over yourself.

  • @155 KnaveX: Are you serious? I don’t think I could handle that! That’d be freakin’ nerve racking! Hey, Dylan, could you confirm this? Would the arbiters really be able to challenge someone to a one-on-one match?

  • #170….no agree/disagree hence an agree to you. sasince my last comments just finished watching blu ray exclusive…primeval….sony sure backs their logo…beyond high definition….my tv goes up to 1080i…and that is incredible picture..wonder how it can be any better at 1080p….bought my ps3 in january at full price…since then the games and blu ray movies…priceless. not a fanboy just a consumer that is attracted towards the best in the market

  • Thanks. Time to get back into the skys. If I could stop playing Folklore that is :)

  • Wow..! This is the way to address issue by first admitting that there is an issue and letting us know that work is being done to fix them. I never got into Warhawk even though I spent the money on the Retail Disk version. I already traded it in for HALO3 “but” with attitudes like Dylan’s I am gonna just go ahead and download it from the PSN and just in time for all the bugs that made me give up so easily. Hope to see you all on Warhawk. Good luck team on getting things ironed out.

  • Great job Dylan!!! I can’t wait to DL this patch is there a way i can sign up to be Judge Dredd too? lol

  • Sweet to know my number one PS3 online game is getting patches. Even though my stats didnt get erased, im grateful for the fix. I also can’t wait to see what you incognito’s have up your sleeve, for patch v.1.2 ( new vehicles anyone????) I hope, thnx again.

  • what about the freezing issues also? I never had them before but started getting them. frozen 4 times now, the latest just a few minutes ago. fixing stats and all is fine but its useless if you can’t play the game.

  • HEY DYLAN JOBE, ARE YOU EVER GOING TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE CHEATER AND STAT PADDER TransAMZ28??? He is #2 on WARHAWK leaderboards…and he cheats and stat pads. he does the same thing on NASCAR 08.

It’s about time SONY does something with this guy…Like a PERMANENT IP ban.

  • Hey, Dylan. Great to hear you guys are still working hard on Warhawk. I’ve put in quite a bit of time into the game thus far, and I’ve loved it… even on those days when I just can’t do well. Can’t wait for the news concerning 1.2.

I do have one question, though… We’ve seen Eucadia, so it would only be natural to see the Chernovan homeland…. right?

  • It’s good to see at least someone is being honest and transparent about their forthcoming updates.

  • Dude, you make a refreshing change. You’re there cuting through the crap. If 1% of the gaming community and developer forum had as much “go” as you, the world (yes the world) would be better place instead of sounding like the sort of spin you get before a labour election.

  • Warhawk Patch 1.1 coming end October. Changelist aimed at stability - VideoGamesBlogger

[…] is why the Sony blog mentions Warhawk Patch 1.2 is already underway and the game will get moderator that can report/ban […]

  • Well ain’t this just splendid? I have to admit the network issues were rather tiresome, and am might pleased that a patch is in the works. I play for the enjoyment of playing, and am not too fussed about the stats and rank thing. Many people here are mentioning a variety of cheaters and the like, so I must report that I personally have seen none of that. I might be just lucky or something, who knows. That tank glitch is begging to be tried though, ha ha!

If it’s not too late for the patch that follows this one, could the following be considered for inclusion please?

    1) I want a “Just give me a game!” button that will automatically find the biggest variable server with space for me, and plonk me in it. I really do not like having to search for a free server.

    2) When selecting a server, and then waiting and waiting to connect, an option to press the circle to exit should exist, rather than waiting as long as we have to.

    3) When in game, an option to add that server to your favourites would be most appreciated.

    4) Jeep side passengers should indeed be able to shoot their weapon.

    5) Gun boats.

    6) New maps, of course.

    7) Jeeps and tanks should indeed be customisable.

    8) Active mic name in the bottom right, and the option to mute, select or all.

    9) Option for mic always on (squads / team / all in range), or always off. This in addition to the PTT.

    10) A tail gunners turret on a Warhawk for my passenger would be a sweet addition.

Some useful requests and yeah, some frivolous ones, but well… you know!

  • How about the option to forgive or punish teamkillers? Sure there are some idiots that just shoot their teammates but occassionally accidents do happen. I’ve only been kicked once but it’s not always your fault when people throw themselves into the line of fire during a base assault. How about giving people the choice?

  • Dylan, How will proximity land mines be handled as far TK’ing? For example, an attacker on the opposing team approaches the other teams flag that is sorrounded by proximity mines and is being chased in close combat by the protecting team on defense a proximity mine explodes taking defensive teammates with the attacker resulting in a number of TK’s in the end temporary kick or banned. I ask because this happened 2 me after one TK. with this exact scenario. I also can see this happen a lot when some one is in a Warhawk and is flying blind and is unaware of their teammates Airdefense proximity mine.

  • I love Warhawk and all these new updates will be great, but we need a party system and an actual lobby that has an in-game friends list. not one that’s connected to the XMB. and in-game messaging, i mean geez, if i want to message someone, i have to logout of warhawk and then send the message. and where’s the PARTY SYSTEM??? how is my clan supposed to join a ranked game together if we’re all on and there’s 16 of us? it’s impossible. I love warhwk, but it’s so hard to communicate and use actual teamwork. there’s no squad system and if i want to talk to someone with my headset i have to keep holding down the L3 button. that’s not the easiest thing to do when you’re in the middle of a shootout….and on top of that it wears out your analog stick. i know i’m not hte only one that wants this…..

  • Hey, I went to play Warhawk today, and I got forced into the download of the 1.1 patch (cool) Then I tried to play online with my wife and she did NOT get the patch yet, and we can’t be in a ranked server together. In fact I can’t SEE and blue SCEA ranked server. Will I be like this till everyone get’s the patch??? please advise.
    PSN ID Lugoves

  • yeahhh

what happened to the the blue SCEA servers?

  • How will the Arbiters make the decision to ‘Call Out’ a player to prove their skills. My youngest son uses my PSN account to play Warhawk as it is much easier to just hand him the controller to play a few rounds. While this probably really sucks for my team, it is much easier than logging out and logging him in for the ten minutes that he will actually want to play.
