Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Coming Soon(er)

Posted by Greg Phillips // Producer, SCEA

R&C Tornado Launcher
As frequent Playstation.Blog readers will remember, about two weeks back we announced Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction had gone gold and would ship to stores Oct 30th. Well, due to some unexpected quickness at the factory, a vast majority of retailers have already received the game. With that, some retailers are choosing to release the game next week instead of waiting until the 30th, which we are all too happy to allow :).

Official launch date remains October 30, but for those who can’t wait to use your trigger fingers on the Tornado Launcher (or any other weapon in Ratchet’s arsenal), check with your local game retailer next week.

Yay, a great game that supports 1080 output… Can’t wait. I’m new to the series but the demo totally sold me on this one.

No that won’t happen. Just like SONY is never going to release the PSP camera in the US.

TwinsDad  |  October 19th, 2007 at 10:18 am

Nice. TRU needs to redo the B2G1 sales, or it’s rental time instead.

Marketing for the PS3 in the US is pretty awful. Please Sony, you need to advertise to let people know how great the PS3 really is. This game should be a huge hit for the system, but there is not much hype at all for it because of the lack of advertising. I love Sony and have every Playstation product, and even I admit your competition knows how to market a lot better even though their products aren’t close to as good.

Sollus  |  October 19th, 2007 at 12:25 pm

Maybe Sony will finally start the TV ads now that they seem to finally have their hardware problems ironed out.

68

deadxbabiesxinc  |  October 19th, 2007 at 12:41 pm

They said the ads will start November, they put 1 million dollars into it or something like that. To run throughout the holiday season. I read the link someone posted earlier. Thanks btw to that person

Loucetios  |  October 19th, 2007 at 12:52 pm

i reserved the game today at EB Games can;t wait to get it

71

Deviation  |  October 19th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

I also went ahead and reserved the game at the evil GameStop empire today – I don’t trust other retailers to put it out before the 30th even if they have it.

@80 What you’re referencing is the European ad campaign, which they’re dropping a million pounds on – that works out to $2 million US.

theShah  |  October 19th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

the demo of this game rocks!
its gonna kick a**!!

73

frito  |  October 19th, 2007 at 5:01 pm

cool news, looks like i’ll be getting it a bit earlier-

that is of course if they ironed out the lack of “invert view” option!

78

RatchetFanatic  |  October 19th, 2007 at 11:37 pm

after only Warhawk proving itself as a worthy game out of the herd of 1st party titles (Heavenly Sword, Lair, Eye of Judgment, Folklore- all average or below), hopefully Ratchet will follow Warhawk.

79

rukusa  |  October 20th, 2007 at 1:20 am

see you in November Ratchet :(

80

Loki_344  |  October 20th, 2007 at 3:42 pm

Nice!

81

Lp47  |  October 20th, 2007 at 11:05 pm

yes! I wasnt to bummed that ratchet was delayed a week, but now it gives me more time to enjoy the game, before every other big title gets released in November. ( cod 4, uncharted, assassins creed, haze) and so on.
I fell in love with resistance, ( so much that i play it frequently since launch) and i know i will love insomniacs second title for the PS3.

Kpepe  |  October 22nd, 2007 at 1:28 pm

This is so awsome

83

Catharz  |  October 22nd, 2007 at 9:04 pm

Dammit, I wish this flowed on to Europe and Australia.
I’m loving the demo, but the full game isn’t released until November here. :(

jacsro  |  October 23rd, 2007 at 3:00 pm

IGN reviewed this game with a 9.4 out of 10 score. Not that i care too much about reviews, but it surely helps ps3 reputation.

I told you that we were seriously lacking in some areas and that games like Ratchet & Clank Future Tools of Destruction and MGS4: Guns of the Patriots would either make or break the PS3. Well, I am proud to conclude that Sony has stepped to the plate and they are not willing to lose their market to the likes of Nintendo and especially Microsoft. My freind this is the beginning of the slow but sure decline of Microsofts relatively short lived success on the market. Wii however, still remains relevant and is still selling remarkable well. The plan is to first knock-out Microsoft and then later deal with Nintendo. The reviews are in for the newest Ratchet and Clank game and some reviewers gave it a straight up 10! That’s right, 10 which was far beyond what I personally thought it would score. Good job SONY! Keep ‘em coming. All those developers outhere complain about this and that for the PS3 and yet Insomniac makes a game that is graphically better than most of SONY’s competitors. Also note, that most multiplatform games score lower on the PS3 due to frame rate issues. Yet, Ratchet runs at a smooth 60fps and reviewers say that this game shows what PS3 can really do and sets the bar really for games in the next-gen category.

I for one do not like Jack Tretton, but the people at SONY believe in Him and I hope he moves the company in the right direction and also that Kazura Hirai also does his part as the head of the Playstation business and works with developers on getting the right tools to develop for the overwhelmingly powerful and complex PLAYSTATION@3 Computer Entertainment System and its Cell Broadband Engine.

PS3, despite a dreadful start and countless speculation of failure is going to be one of the the most incredible videogame machines that the world has ever been exposed to. Due to its 10-year life cycle, SONY will eventually gain back all moneys lost on supporting the system through out its tumultous start. SONY will be the achievers of something great by the end of this console generation; something no other company in the business of videogames has ever done, and that is win 3 console generations in a row, seating SONY as the kings of the industry regardless to whether people agree with or don’t agree with them, or whether people like or dislike them.

gamesblow  |  October 23rd, 2007 at 9:27 pm

This is an out and out outrage, Sony. Gamespot needs to be dealt with. This game, I have it, is not a 7.5!!! You need to black ball them sorry ****s over at Gamespot… We all now they are owned by cnet and cnet is owned by Microsoft. Stop sending them review copies of your games, Sony!! I cannot believe they burned everyone’s intelligence to the ground tonight. WOW! Gamespot needs to be shut down. Even worse… Aaron (SLOP DONG) Thomas has reviewed 90% sports games only. Why they hell did they let him review R&C?? Sony, I’m asking you do something about this.

87

gamesblow  |  October 23rd, 2007 at 9:28 pm

I haven’t seen Gamepost say anything good about Sony or a sony product in years. they are of no use or benefit for you or to you. Websites are good when they promote and hype… Gamespot does nothing but bash and belittle the users intelligence. They’re Microsoft… Plain and simple. Stop giving them exclusive interviews and invites and stop giving them review copies of your games. Who’s with me?

88

lakaihigh  |  October 23rd, 2007 at 9:50 pm

@gamesblow – I second you mate… what can we do?

Peace,
Lh

the6one  |  October 24th, 2007 at 2:19 pm

Agreed….SONY, stop depending on gamespot to validate the PS3 because they will not. They are clearly working for Microsoft and they will do whatever it takes to bring the PS3 down. Look at their review compared to so many others, they titled their review as Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a is a fun, combat-oriented, platformer that has an identity crisis. That is in plain english hating or bashing the game in between lines. Other people talked about the graphics as being next-gen and as setting the bar very high for next-gen titles but Gamespot completely just bypaseed that and acted like the graphics were pretty good and inventive. You have got to know that Microsoft, with all their money, let’s just face it already, will do whatever they can to destroy the Playstation brand because we’re the only brand that poses a serious threat to Microsoft and its monopoly with windows software. I foresee once everything is settled and SONY wins an unprecedented 3 console generation in a row; they might be able to slowly move into Microsoft dominant market and start to show some SONY influence upon it. SONY, you guys are the top dogs and it is you guys who I trust when comes to delivering the best in advanced consumer electronics. SONY is the best in consumer in electronics and everyone outhere knows it. Sure, you will have to pay alot of money, but you pay for what you get. It is absolutely dispicable that gamespot would give R&C a 7.5. This game is easily deserves anywhere from a 9.5 to a perfect 10. The game is utterly amazing and validates SONY’s claim on PS3 being the true next-generation platform.
