Gran Turismo Awards Crowns “Best in Show” at SEMA

46 0

Last night, during the 2007 SEMA Show, Kazunori Yamauchi – creator of the Gran Turismo franchise – and PlayStation hosted the Fifth Annual Gran Turismo Awards at Las Vegas hot spot, Tryst. Every year, hundreds of SEMA Show exhibitors enter their customized vehicles into the GT Awards with hopes of being crowned “Best in Show.” What’s the big prize, you ask? Much more than HUGE bragging rights, the Best in Show vehicle is immortalized in a future Gran Turismo product for millions of fans to drive!

Check out this video for a taste of what GT Awards is all about.

Industry experts scan the show floor and judge all the entries to select “Best in Class” winners for the following five categories: Best Hot Rod, Best Japanese Import, Best European Import, Best Truck/SUV and Best Domestic. From there, Kazunori Yamauchi carefully examines these “Best in Class” winners to select the BIG ONE – Best in Show.

Check out the category winners from this year’s GT Awards below:

2007 Nisson 350Z - Best Japanese Import2007 Factory Five GTM - Best Domestic2007 Dodge Ram - Best TruckSUV1967 Ford Mustang Fastback - Best Hot Rod

The winner last night at the 2007 GT Awards was a 2007 Audi TT submitted by Marcel Horn. It is a beautiful car and we are all very excited about driving it (very fast) in a future GT product.

Also, check out this image below of last year’s GT Awards winner, a 1960 Corvette that was playable in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue at Tryst last night. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is set to continue blurring the lines of racing simulation and reality – it looks amazing! Just think: the same amount of data used for an entire car in GT4 is now used for just one headlight in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. WOW!

Following the awards ceremony, guests were also treated to an outstanding live performance by Chris Cornell. He rocked the crowded house with a set that no one will soon forget.

  • Damn it… I need to go to SEMA ones in my life time… but damn… this year should had been badass to go, because GT Developers were going to be there.

I hope GT has some kind of Customization in the game, I should love to see a car Customized by me with GT graphics engine.

  • The gt5:p demo is mindblowing.

  • Game that sells more than Halo games, sells about same number as GTA games, but biased sites like GameSpot and 1UP don’t give it much credit, attention and not much respect.
Instead they talk(on their stupid podcast) how Mr.Kazunori Yamauchi has not played Forza 2, ugh.

  • You’re kidding? A GT4 car=A GT5 headlight? O_O

  • i am intrested to see the clip, but my ps3 can’t play it. please scea put clips on the blog that can be played by my ps3. i don’t have a pc

  • BTW, Since you are affiliated with Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Have any idea when the demo will hit the North American store so I don’t have to download the Japanese version?

  • the japanese version is great. the in game display is in english. game does look really real.

  • Awesome, now if you could send me one of those fancy red PS3 it would make it even more Awesome.

  • Sweeeet. nice i’ve always been a GT fan!

  • looks cool
@7 i agree, im on the blog almost every day checking out what new stuff gets posted up but im on my ps3, and i cant watch any videos put up.

  • The GT series is the pinnacle of great video game design, programming and gameplay. I am glad it is still an exclusive only to the Playstation series of consoles, and I am so ready to play GT5:Prologue as soon as it’s ready in the USA.

  • GT4: 5,000 polygons per vehicle
    GT5: 200,000!

  • wow those are really cool how come you guys wont give us americans GT5: PROLOGUE DEMO? and how come polyphony hasn’t added anti-aliasing?

  • wow

  • I hope the game does indeed go beyond customization, wouldnt be the real driving simulator; if we couldnt do engine swaps; and aerodynamics.

  • sonsolid i think u should just go back to playing forza 2

  • I always loved GT its so cool! Looking forward to GT 5 Prologue and 5 :D

  • the GT5:P demo is pretty nice, you can really notice the improvements since GT:HD, just a shame that it’s release has been delayed ‘due to online reasons’ something i am becoming horribly used to. i was looking forwards to this over the dark winter months… i hope when the full GT5 comes out, probably around 2009 at this rate of delay it will contain the full parts and tuning options a-la GT4, driving standard cars around is nice but even better is molding them to your own driving style. i still play GT4 on my PS3 as there is nothing quite like it.

going to be buying NFS:PS now.

  • Eagerly looking forward to Gt5 Prologue in December. Importers rejoice! Have great faith in Kaz and the crew at PD to deliver the goods with GT5 later in 2008. 900 cars possibly? Top Gear in GT TV as well as Home integration and a terrific online experience. PD, just bring it! On eof my most respected developers, up there with Insomaic and Naughty Dog.

  • Anyone know what happened to Eight Days??? Is it one of the secret titles comign out for Ps3 next year?? If So I cant wait to see what Sony have in store for Us.

  • The Playstationblog.com site should have a complain center so our gamer-side frustrations can be heard instead of just complaining in the mid of a topic. This could actually be a complaint that there is no complaining center!

  • hey i got a answer for the people who dont have credit card buy a prepaid one at walmart. it would be nice on rfom to have a patch where head shots actually take off the head like in gears of war. when we gonna get some free downloads christmas is coming up.

  • @ 25

I’ve been wondering that too. How about adding the Getaway to that list of secret titles in ’08.

  • Wow! Those screenshots are SHARP! Though apparently YouTube has a quality limit on video, ’cause both this and the YouTube version of the new (Killer) ads seem to have a low resolution. This round of GT looks like it’s turning out stunningly! Keep up the great work!

  • #5 is right and its not the first time, gamespot doesnt giv much credit to any PS3 titles. and i imagine the GT video that’s at the top of the page has real time graphics from PS3?

  • I like Race titles and that’s one of the reasons I’m a PS user.

Talking about race titles: are you guys still owner of the FOA license? meaning making F1 CE updates and new F1 titles.

‘EA tries to steal your thunder with that new 5 million Hamilton deal’

  • OFF TOPIC: Any chance us ps3 gamers will get first listen of that new Korn Single for HAZE? are there any plans for PSN download, I’d easily pay 1 – 2$ for it… just to hear it, and have it.

  • Those cars look AWESOME!

  • Thats sick. Is sony gonna be at the sd auto show nxt month?

  • PLEASE HURRY UP WITH THIS GAME I WANT TO PLAY IT ALREADY. IT WILL BE GOOD TO HAVE IT BEFORE THE YEAR ENDS. I KNOW YOU COULD DO IT.

  • I absolutely love this series.
Nothing can even come close to the simulation factor of GT. Im glad that theyve taken this step to “In a sence” pay homage to their fans / Consumers.

  • Sad part is that in real life, My GTM would eat that Audi TT alive! Check last month car & Driver magazine. My car is 435 hp/ 2238 lbs WET! Koni coil overs all around, electronic paddle shifters, and a total of only 38.5 inches off the ground!

  • Oh, I forgot to mention the factory’s GTM with the LS7..0-60 in 3.0, 1/4 mile 11 fseconds flat! I figure with the LS6 I am probably less than a 1/2 second slower.
