Firmware 2.00 Video Demonstration
+ Posted by Eric Lempel // Director, PlayStation Network Operations
Hello again. To better illustrate new features in the forthcoming firmware update, we’ve created a quick video demonstration of some of the new features (shot using the PLAYSTATION Eye). Inside, you’ll see a quick run through of how Themes, the Information Board, Remote Start, and custom photo and music playlists work.
As soon as the firmware goes active, our System Software Update page will refresh to reflect all of the features found in firmware v2.00.

Suggestion: Display the Date and Time when the PS Button is pressed.

The new PSN category logo doesn’t match. It doesn’t look good at all. Why?

I gotta admit that i’m disappointed as well. Keep hoping that you’ll do something that truly wows me. First Home gets delayed, MGS4 as well, and now this. Still holding out hope tho… so much potential, extremely sluggish execution

People need to stop complaining about in-game XMB.
I actually think the new firmware is great.
Here are some features that I think should be added besides the In game XMB
1. Time Display when pressing the PS button
2. Ability to create folders under Videos…or expand the playlist feature to the Video Category.
3. Support for DivX encoded videos…if possible
4. More backwards compatabillity for the 80GB sku
5. Add more downloadable themes : )

Hi, Nice vid….great demonstration. I even like your shirt. The other day. a friend of mine who trash talks the ps3 came over to my house. can you begin to imagine my excitement of how badly i was going to be able to prove hime wrong…By the way he an xbox owner and swears by it. so, anyway he proceeds to try out the ps3, and attempt to make every flimsy complaint he can…..ohh the system is so big ..oh the controller is too lite… ohh no rumble ect ect…after about an hour or 2 and going through a few ps2 some psn and many ps3 games, he was hooked.
he tried to say other wise but there was no doubt. he was consumed by warhawk and wanted to play it more and more, just then a friend of ours jumped on line and as usual XXXXX has just logged in, my friend wanted to say hello, so normally he (as he does on his xbox 360) presses the home button and tries to send a crosstalk invite. “What” no crosstalk…”lmao, you gotta be kidding me”, he found the weak point he was looking for….and he was right. we had to sign off to say hi to our friend……the dismay. how embarrassing…
after ridiculing the ps3 for about 15 min or so. i patheticaly tried to play it of by laughing and saying….update 2.0 is coming this month and then we will have crosstalk….the we will have ingame xmb…..hahahah…ha..h…a……
i don’t expect you guys to do anything about it for my sake, but…..you launched after M$ and they have crosstalk …and forget about that, before the ps3 launched you showed vids and pics of it…..im annoyed, having to keep making excuses to my self for you, ohh its coming, they are just working on ???? ohh its coming ohh ts coming…..
halfway though my rant here i realized it wont help any at all….cause when its all said and done…..its still coming.
nice shirt!

MikeG115 | November 7th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
again i have to voice my anger in this update. nothing about it is 2.0ish. this update is a insult to all 2.0’s across the world. nothing here is even worth the time it will take to download and install. AND I HAVE A PSP AND USE REMOTE PLAY!!!
we can’t even organize things we downloaded from the PSN. i have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list just to get to Tekken DR.
sony you’re f*cking up. i still have access to my 360 and i’ll raise that piece of sh!t from the dead if you keep f*cking around.
i’ll just buy ps3 exclusives and everything else on 360. keep these bullsh!t updates to yourself and stop wasting my time.

Wow, some people are harsh. I think the new PSP remote start is amazing. I flew to Vegas recently and had to leave my PS3 on just so I didn’t have to store alot of music and video on my PSP’s memory card. I do agree with the clock being displayed when you hit the PS home button. That shouldn’t be hard at all to add, so please add this simple little feature. If you want to quiet these people yelling “In-game XMB or death!!!” just add in-game messaging. That’s all I truely care about.

Clinton514 | November 7th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
Saunder, yes Sony needs to know what we think but it’s not an excuse for idiots to be spamming the comment box.
Shows how immature some of the community members are.

That video was the most unimpressive thing that Sony has shown yet. Bring on the upscaling from 720p to 1080i for those of us without 720p available. Without this feature, the PS3 cannot compete with the 3fix-me. I took the liberty of looking at games available on both systems, and the 3-fix me games would provide an HD output on my television, but my $600 PS3 (early adopter) shows Spider-man 3 in 480p. Wow! (Resistance, Heavenly Sword and Motorstorm are more important culprits.) Fix it! Also, add in-game XMB.
With some of Sony’s recent decisions, I wonder if the company is determined to anger their customers. As a PS1/2/3 owner, and a stockholder, Sony is one of the biggest disappointments.

Someone needs to make a hack firmware so we can have in-game xmb and be happy and go about our business

NaughtyDogFan | November 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Not to give any of you hopes but for those of you who are complaining that this update ‘blows,’ or whatever you may need to realize that the demonstration was of the features Eric mentioned, however in the previous post about Firmware 2.0, he mentioned that other features will be present.

saunderswan | November 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
@169 I agree but everyone speaks there own language like i said its the copy pasters and CHILDREN that make it annoying
172
illizit | November 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
tibbar110, the ps3 plays blurays at 1080i!! Thats the price you pay for being an early adopter of an HDTV.
Anyways, I think this guy forget to show up the part where HE CAN ACCESS THE XMB FROM WITHIN A GAME!!! DAMN IT SONY BRING US IN-GAME XMB PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
173
S3NTRY | November 7th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
All that I want is the XMB to have better organization and stuff.
Honestly, I wish I could at least give my two cents about the XMB, things in the frinds column could be drastically improved, same for the media sections (images, videos, music), as well as some settings.
It could all be done better, and I have an idea for it all, and almost 100% it would not only satisfy consumers, but be easy to use, and much better then the current…
Too bad though.

Jamh | November 7th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Wow, would you people stop with the in-game XMB crap already it’s getting old. I crossed that off the list the moment they announced Home was going to be delayed.
175
Prayer350z | November 7th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
so when is something useful coming out?
Home?
In Game XMB?
I mean yes everything you give is appreicated, but seriously.. we want XMB IN GAME..
Maybe one day SONY will actually read this and do it.

awheaten | November 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
I feel the same way as the average gamer of the PS3. However, the comments I’ve been seeing is not the way you get someone to do something for you. I do agree that Sony totally dropped the ball releasing an update that didn’t include ingame XMB, knowing that gamers were looking for no less than that. It is a shame; however, that shows that the Reps are totally out of touch with what the customers are looking for, well as far as the system updates are concern.
However, with that being said, I don’t believe ugliness is the way to go about things. Sarcasm yes, but ugliness no. I believe that Sony will come through when they are ready, and there is nothing we can do about it but wait.
But, as a fan, I must say again that I am very disappointed. This anouncement is embarrassing to all of us, because we are the same people who defend Sony’s PS3, saying things like, “the price is worth it”. However, when it appears that Sony can’t even give us in game XMB, it is a bit dejecting.
I must say that fans of the PS3 need to express there dissappointment without being ugly and spamming up the place.
Peace!

the price for exclusive games increased with 10 euro’s. sony is trying to make there loses less by increasing the price of there first party games. AAAh i don’t know who works in the sales department of sony, but read your school books again and they will tell you this is not a smart decision.

Keep up the firmware demonstrations. A nice way to display the features added going forward with other updates.

Who never said that in-game xmb won’t be in the update? Sure, they haven’t announced it as one of their big feeatures, but if anyone took the time to notice:
“We’ve added several other features in this update. I’ll soon be back with more details with a quick video demo of some of the new features.
As always thanks for all of your support and feedback.”
Source: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/07/firmware-update-v200/
There’s still hope, although don’t expect not to possibly be let-down.
Home is coming out next year, deal with it. They won’t add it now, unless it’s for the public beta late this month, early next month, which means that they will just have to take the icon down when it closes (which would then prove that there is no point to put it in the firmware update).
To dboy93, DualShock 3 support is added because the controller is coming out in Japan this month. Importers will get it. They’re gonna want their new controller to be useful, so why not do it now?

update is nice but maybe not call it 2.0
would like to see:
1.) Divx / Xvid playback support
2.) Custom Soundtracks
3.) Option to automatically download game demos/movie trailers/etc. when released
4.) Better quality DVD upscaling

I disagree with a lot of people here. Yes, there is no “In game XMB” but they have stated that they are working on it. I think this update is really good. The play lists was a must, the news in the corner is pretty cool, and the themes are going to be really cool. Thanks a lot for another great update!
