Hey everyone. We know you like to hear about updates a few days in advance, so here’s a quick heads up that we have a new System Software update in the works.

Firmware v2.01 is a minor update that will improve the stability of PLAYSTATION 3.

We’ll provide more specifics as the update is about to go live, but we thought we’d give loyal blog readers advance notice!

  • Oooh….also….why do we STILL have to download something…..THEN install it….again.
    I HATE THAT!!!

  • I do not know what the hype is regarding ingame xmb.
    Can someone explain it?
As far as I understand it, you are asking for the ability to chat with users (friends) outside of the game via ingame xmb…am I right?

  • you can put functionalty that allows you to make minor changes without aking us to change entire firmware though,it takes time and started to happen alot.:)lol

  • @linuxguru

    *Starts Sarcasm*

No, actually I want to play a video while I pause my game.

    *Stop Sarcasm*

    I only care about music.

Dude, you had that one down. next post….

Come on guys. Sony knows you want in-game XMB (messaging/music) and I am going to assume they are working on it. (If they’re not, they just lost a customer – not because I really want in-game XMB, but because that is something M$ would do and there’s a good reason why I don’t have the “other” system)

    {sarcasm}
Anyways, if you must spam the blog with “IN-GAME XMB” posts, please see comment #290 for the correct spamming format on PlayStation.Blog.

  • IN-GAME XMB thanks!!

  • At the rate you guys at Sony are going with PSN I feel that you won’t be caught up to your competitor in terms of features and services for about four years or a little more. You guys work too much on what YOU want and not what the PUBLIC wants. I’ve honestly seen nobody who requested Themes a year ago, but I saw hundreds who requested In-Game XMB, something you guys should have been working on for a lot longer now, something you showed off before the release, getting me to say, “They’re gonna have it! They’re gonna have in game XMB! I want a PS3!!” I don’t even know why I type this unheard crap when you people at Sony won’t listen to anybody but your damn share-holders or your own greedy conscience of what YOU want on the PS3. PS3 needs more community functions if it is to be an online platform. Get it through the head, Sony. Of course you won’t though- not until 4 years from now.

  • THIS IS THE MAIN REASON OF WHY THE PS3 STORE IS THE WORST THERE IS, OF WHY WE DONT HAVE MENSAGE IN GAME, OF WHY PS3 DONT HAS THAT MANY GAMES OF WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE SWITCHING TO XBOX 360 EVERY DAY. SONY WAIT TO MUCH TIME ON RELEASING UPDATES FOR THE MACHINES SON NO ONE COULD HACK INTO THEM THAT THEY FORGOT ABOUT US AND THE THINGS THAT WE NEED. I HAVENT HEARD OF A MACHINE THAT WAS NEVER HACK SO STOP PLAYING I DONT NEED AN UPDATE THAT WILL NOT LET ME PLAY LIKE THE 1.90. WE NEED UPDATES ON THE PS3 STORE AND THINGS ON THE PS3 FIRMWARES THAT WE COULD ACTUALLY USE. I THINK EVERY ONE HERE AGREES WITH ME 100%.

  • I agree with MichaelBravo 100%, Sony. You guys are screwing up bad when it comes to your PSN. I’m one unhappy camper. You guys need to up your PSN hardcore with community features to really keep friends together, making them want to play on the system more. But [DELETED] you’re not listening, Sony. 1 year in and no major breakthrough for PSN. Get your heads out of Home and work on one thing at a time, smart guys. You obviously can’t handle multiple projects.

  • Press your caps lock key dude – I think it is stuck.

  • @linuxguru

    Thats a fancy font.

    Cool people use it now.

Did you read it? I honestly didn’t

  • OK, I think someone said this when 2.00 came out, but it needs to be said again:

HOME will almost undoubtably have in-game messaging/invites/custom soundtracks.
Why do you think Sony would give us them seperately and then give them to us AGAIN when HOME comes out?
Also, I do not see why someone has to post “GIVE US IN-GAME XMB” or something like that every 5 posts. Don’t you think Sony got the point in the 500 times someone asked in the 2.00 thread? or the like 250 times people have asked in this post?
Man, what is wrong with you people? Sony has been badgered about this since the day this blog went public. If you don’t believe they read the blog, look at what happened when the Uncharted trailer was region-locked. It took them, like, 22 HOURS to fix the bug.
And don’t go on about how that was Naughty Dog and not Sony. There have been many MANY posts where Sony have said that they know we want in-game messaging and that they are working on it. If you don’t believe me, just go down to your local GameStop or Walmart and pick up one of M$’s crappy consoles with a 33% failure rate. Which would you rather, no in-game messageing, or no console?

    @ everyone with network problems.

Do you have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router, or another Linksys router? The PS3 has a know compatibility issue with this router. http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=18300
I would know, we have this router at our house and I cannot stream stuff with Tversity from my PC to my PS3.
Also, my connection with the PSN frequently fails (fortunately, not while I’m playing online.)
A lot of people that posted at the website I gave the link to said that disabling the media server on the PS3 improved the stability of the connection. Apparantly, the router’s UPnP thing hates the PS3’s guts.

  • I NEED TO TAKE OVER THIS GUY’S JOB.

  • I think we remind them about in game XMB so much because we asked for it a year ago and they said it was coming, but nothing came, leading us to believe that they don’t listen to us because they gave us something different and won’t even comment on the status of in-game XMB even further pushing us to believe they are not hearing us. And yes, Madness3120 needs to take over this guys job. I vote for Madness. And I agree 100% with MichaelBravo.

  • Everybody was waiting for the 2.0 firmware and I mean everybody!!!
But the thing we really meant was in-game XMB!! At least in-game msg!! This 2.0 update they should of called it 1.94 then so many people would have not gon mad with sony!!

  • TrueGameHeadz BlogHeadz » This Week in Gaming ...

[…] it’s minor. That didnt’ stop the users over at PlayStation.Blog to request IN-GAME-XMB. At this point, its reached the point of stupidity. A firmware update that small wouldn’t have something so significant, even though we would […]

  • Or they could have told us months ahead of time that NO in-game messagin was coming so we could stop expecting it.

I know the 360’s a piece of junky hardware, I just want justice for my $600, meaning I want good features like they said PS3 would have at the E3 before it came out when they showed off in game messaging and what not. Like Ozzyyuno said, We all were waiting for 2.0… not for the number but for the messaging feature that we’ve so badly needed. But I do hear where you’re coming from, ElMonstro. Sony has plenty of time to implement many new features that will rival and someday cripple Live. I also agree that it wouldn’t be of a benefit to release said features so late into the consoles life.

  • @Gregero

… another fine example of what people should be listenning to, instead of this, pat pat on the back(“It’s ok Sony! We understand”) crapola, Sony may be cutting edge, Sony might deserve it’s 5million systems sold with almost no AAA titles, on reputation alone, but that is no excuse for lack of in game messaging, in game custom music, This is something gamers have been doing for 10 years on pc and quite a few years on the other system that shall remain nameless, and it’s been a damn year since half of us shelled out 600-900 for this thing. One thing I understand is Sony’s desire to create an all-in-one no holds barred media center, fair enough, and kudos so far it’s been only mildly painful, and mostly beneficial to us consumers, but perhaps when melding a pc-game console-tivo-home theater-stationary mp3 player-web browser-picture viewer-video making/editing studio, in place of their ‘once was’ strictly game console/dvd device, they should have hired many more people creating different divisions of operation on the ps3 in the process, rather than split the workload on the shoulders of the people who were once responsible for the aforementioned ‘strictly game/dvd device’, The people on here that are defending the cutting of corners, need to grow up, in this industry there is no second place or third place, there is only first and foremost, and Nintendo. and right now ps3’s predecessor owns title of #1 and probably will for another 2-3+ years, If Sony allows gamers to get sick of waiting too much, in what seems like an attempt at rallying anticipation, then us hardcores won’t be here to make the 4th system a success in 7-9 years. anticipation and forced ignorance are feelings/acts that are easily interchangeable when companies don’t listen to their #1 fans.

  • Yea in game custom soundtracks/music is #1, for people like me, it’s nice to have an excuse to fall back on, for ignoring messages… “Sorry!… I was just seconds from finally beating the slay-tanic devil dune buggy on Motorstorm, I couldn’t quit to talk to you, but now that you’re gone, I’m here…” haha! ttyl… etc etc…

your an idiot…. sure that console may have a 30%percent failure rate but there software division has absolutely nothing to do with that….. What is this thread discussing, firmware 2.01 made by the software division. So if you don’t have anything useful to say and if you would rather sit on your ass and hope that Sony might take initiative and add the features we want then go right ahead.. don’t complain about people that are actually trying to get Sony to implement the features we want. And stop defending certain companies as if they had sucked your d+ck, makes you look retarded.

  • @tretle

Are you REALLY taking to me?

  • @323 tretle

My post was #314, but by the content of your post I assume you are speaking to me.

As far as software vs. hardware goes, software only makes hardware do something other than just look pretty. f you have crappy hardware, like the “other console” does, there is nothing software can do to fix it.
Also, by mentioning hardware, I was simply saying if you want a hard-core gamer’s console, (as opposed to the Wii) the alternative to the PS3 is not worth it’s weight in charcoal. The PS3 has a failure rate of like .01%, (that’s ~1 in 10,000, in case you’re wondering) so why would I be bugging Sony about their hardware? They have achieved de facto perfection. (With any manufactured product, achieving a 0.00% failure rate is not possible, so a .01% failure rate is, for all practical purposes, perfection.)

Sony is listening to us and adding features that we want.
    For example,
We wanted more connectivity between the PS3 and the PSP. Sony gave us the ability to remotely turn on the PS3 with the PSP. Even though this feature has some issues, Sony gave us what we wanted, and this update will presumably fix the problem.
Around 3-4 months ago, I remember what everyone was crying about most (other than in-game XMB) was the fact that there were no custom playlists on the PS3. Now we have them.
Also, when Sony unveiled custom themes on the PSP, everyone wanted them on the PS3 too. Sony not only gave us custom themes, they also gave us a way to make our own themes if we want to.

I realize that in-game XMB, as everyone in this blog means it, is what we want more than anything else. However, I will not reiterate my opinion on that here. If you want to know what it is, read #314. (not #313)

  • @elmonstro (326)

I believe a comment got erased that why the number count changed.

    Anyway..

I always wanted to know if “the others” count the “repaired” ones as new ones into the sold count…who knows…

It just never cease to amaze me how people are willing to pay 350 for a paperweight. Not all have the money to send it to repair. I knew people who were in their 6th…come on..

  • HOME HOME HOME we need HOME you keep us waiting so ps3 may not be my Home any more come on

  • I think we are getting, bug fixes. I love them.

  • FIX ASSASSINS CREED!!!!!! i could care less about Home and other stuff, I just want my AC to work.

  • in game xmb jesus

  • Bring on the bug fixes….Though my PS3 is running fine on 2.0.. :)

    BTW – getting Uncharted tomorrow..woohoo

  • @Kedaro,

You know, man… I couldn’t have said it better. Not much more to say about it though huh? I guess if I wait for tomorrow I’ll have more to say lol. We want what we want and we’re not getting it :( I too have the in-game XMB and in-game soundtracks as my number one wants for the PS3. Time will only tell.

  • I have to confirm the issue described in comment 153 by puppydg68.
Since FW 2.00 DNLA-functionality is corrupt.
Streamed files won’t play to end.

I hope Sony’s already tracing that and will fix it with 2.01

Just got to love my PS3 not just for gaming but for being my real media center – streaming every content stored on my PC over WLAN right to my TV and Audio-System.

I really hope i do not have to return to analog audio/video transmitter after those great months I got used in PS3 being fully DNLA compatible.

It depends on which media server you are using.

I use tversity and they just upgraded the software to support 2.0. There was that problem but now its fixed and you can also rewind and fastforward while you are streaming.

Either way, the more ya give us the better! With all the power of the PS3 you’d think it woulda groin shotted the other brand’s systems by now…
