New Resistance Map Pack Out Today

Greg Phillips's Avatar + Posted by Greg Phillips on Nov 29, 2007 // Producer, SCEA

As some of you may have seen thanks to IGN, a second set of maps for Resistance: Fall of Man will be available soon. How soon you may ask and where can I get them? Today and via the PLAYSTATION Store in that order. There are two new maps (each of which is playable in all sizes and all modes) named Axebridge and Bracknell. Click here to go to the IGN story, which does a nice job of describing the maps (it also keeps me from being long winded… which I can get from time to time :).

Map pack two, which contains Axebridge and Bracknell, will cost $4.99. For time being, the maps will be available via the standard PLAYSTATION Store and not the in-game ‘Purchase’ option. We are also releasing a bundle of both this and the first map pack together, which will run $7.99.

Next time: I don’t know… maybe something Ratchet. Maybe something… else (cue evil laugher).

Like several people believe, that MotorStorm needs a new game mode that breathes life into it again… I’m feeling that same way about Resistance as well, It’s a great core game, but I think it’s time for something drastic. A lot of people like to run and gun/respawn, kill, murder death kill, at 200 steps a second, ala unreal tournament/Quake etc.
But there is a large group of gamers that like the more tactical approach to games like Resistance, snipers-etc, that were well practiced at games like the early two Socoms on ps2, the sense that you had one life to live that round, made you a bit more careful, and to some people it was a much more pleasurable gaming experience, it relatively is easy to make a game mode of this type, and toss it in, I kinda’ scratch my head as to why Insomniac hasn’t yet. When making an online game it’s important to take into consideration, the casual, spaz-masher gamer, and the thorough, calculated gamer, as well as the hardcore take no $%#@ from anyone gamer. I find that without the ‘one life to live’ rule in place, Sniping/sneaking around is almost out of the question now that everyone is well versed in the ‘run n’ gun’… and rapid seek and destroy.

It’s easier to snipe in R:FoM. In Warhawk, you snipe, and not only do you get a lovely line pointing back at you, but the camera pans to you too, so there’s no hiding. Plus a big coloured flag over your head. Mmm! However, there are less sniper/stealthy friendly R:FoM maps. Oooh the inbalance.

However, I can’t quite work out which is my fav, so I’m going to continue my experiments in both. Yay! Though vehicular tom foolery in Resistance would be fun.
