Sony should offer downloadable PS2 games just like the new service Microsoft is implementing

yay, psncentral…
I’ll have to keep a tab on that site, I like the design

CitizenInsane27 | November 16th, 2007 at 12:09 am
The internal QA done by the developers is rudimentary, Sony does their own when they recieve the demo, MS does too, its an approval process that all demos and full games have to go through, its to make sure that it’s not gonna destroy the PSN/Live servers.
104
Simstim | November 16th, 2007 at 12:14 am
You are both full it, the games are ready to play from the developers. Its true for the 360, PS3 and PC. How exactly would a game destroy the servers? Is it going to do a service attack and crash them?

You have your backpack and homework, cuz you’re about to get taken to school.

Hehe, Solace++
Anyway, just wanted to say the Toy Home demo was quite atrocious. Even after I got used to the Sixaxis steering, I had to delete the demo because of the incredibly awful framerate, jeez if any demo needed more testing, that was it. I have never seen a worse performance for any game on ps3, demo or otherwise.

Arakasi | November 16th, 2007 at 1:50 am
Oh, and the Battlefield: Bad Company trailer made me LOL too, that game looks great. ;)

Toy Home is not a fun game. I can’t wait until November 23rd. Mass Effect! No, just kidding. Although I will be buying Mass Effect, I really can’t wait for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

just fix 2.0 please.. thanks

Simstim | November 16th, 2007 at 4:01 am
Solace
Oh please.
Standards testing is to insure that software is up to hardware specs like HDMI and doesn’t crash the CPU. Occassionaly software specs like “Is it 3D?” are used. The brunct of testing is put on the developers to perform. 1st Party console makers go through it to make sure everything is up to spec by playing the game and putting it through logistics programs. This can all be done inside a single day or two.
Jaggies, framerates, slowdown, screwed up sound, screwed up mechanics, controls, glitches etc are left to game testers with the devs group. And there is a long list of games that get through standards checking that are buggy as hell and require patches.

You could update the store on Tuesday with just a demo of Haze and I would be happy.

Nice work on Toy Home, my wife had a blast playing the demo…..so there goes $10 bucks I was gonna spend on beer.
Pretty fun little arcadey game, perfect for the six-axis control steering. She was flailing around and having a great time. She thought it was really funny when the toy car flips and you have to use the six-axis to flip it upright again.
(FYI – I’ll still go get some beers)
Great update overall, and cool that we get one a lil earlier next week!

MikeVick7 | November 16th, 2007 at 7:45 am
Sony, please give us more PS1 games. I have a PSP now and I’d really like to play the classics on the system. You can make inroads with the “hardcore” crowd if you release PS1 RPGs like Xenogears, Suikoden, Suikoden 2, Wild Arms, Alundra, Arc the Lad, etc… (some of which are already out on the JPN PSN!)
Is the reason these games aren’t being released in the US is because you have to work out deals with US publishers in addition to developers? Let us know!

FOUND ERROR:
Under the description of the PSN video, it lists the EyeToy as -the- method to use for video chat.
Shouldn’t this be Playstation Eye and EyeToy?
BTW – Any idea when we are going to get an updated Web Browser? Stinks that I cannot view any videos from the Official Playstation website using my PS3. It would be nice to have the flash / java updated to the latest available versions.

njpunk24 | November 16th, 2007 at 8:36 am
Grace,
Thanks for the update. Excited that the next update is Tuesday next week instead of Thursday. That’s awesome. How about a nice Thanksgiving surprise like Puzzle Fighter for $5? I picked up CAC when it went to $5 and would certainly pick up Puzzle Fighter.
Thanks.

Guys, please be nice and don’t eat poor little confused simstim. Sup solace? Battling trolls here AND at ps3fanboy.com? Full time job huh? lol. Well if you don’t do it who will?

SinsToJudge | November 16th, 2007 at 8:55 am
Cool upgrade, although I was a bit annoyed at the Dark Knight trailer, slight waste of my bandwidth :P
The Ratchet themed interviews were cool. Sony, can’t you do more videos like you’ve done with Insomniac and Naughty Dog in the future? It’s nice to see the people behind the games (espically the Naughty Dog people).

Solace | November 16th, 2007 at 9:20 am

“Sup solace? Battling trolls here AND at ps3fanboy.com?”
lol – it’s a tough hobby, but someone’s gotta do it.

With such a great PS1 library available, you’ve got to have a few more titles you can toss up!

FIX THE BROKEN REMOTE START FROM FW 2.0!!!!
it doesn’t work right, it causes the ps3 to restart on its own and then stop responding to attempts to remote start,
its broke fix it!!!

deadxbabiesxinc | November 16th, 2007 at 10:33 am
Whats with the PSN video? Lol if we have a PS3…I would think we don’t need a video to make us realize that there is such a thing called the “Playstation Network”

In game XMB

AK3515 | November 16th, 2007 at 10:59 am
@simstim: sony devs DO have to test the game all the way through, and make sure they complete everything they can do in the demo completely, because for all they know:
1. the files can cause bricking a ps3
2. the demo could be a title screen, and a “the end” screen
3. there could be an unlockable [DELETED] clip in the demo
and sony are having a hard enough time keeping the ps3 at a half decent selling rate as it is, i doubt anybody there would go “nah, lets leave it for next week, we’re fine” anyone with a [DELETED] brain would do everything they can to get sales up, especially when they are on the bottom every time.

It would be awesome if we got the Home Open Beta for next Tuesday’s Update.
You could even market it for Thanksgiving saying:
Come HOME for the holidays with PlayStation Home.

The first WarHawk would kick ass!

GamerMan76 | November 16th, 2007 at 12:21 pm
Toy Home Demo
This game would of been more fun if you had the option of sticks for racing. Flying is fine with sixaxis… moving a rubber duck in a tub is fin with sixaxis but the speed at which you race and only having sixaxis is ridculous.
I could not steer the car to save my life.. the sixaxis is fine for flicking the toy car back over though. I thought that was well implemented.
I will not put money down on a game that I can’t control and would be frustrated with every time I tried to play it. The game really does look like fun. If you can add the option of analog sticks for steering then I would most likely get this game.

At least its not an exclusive, that would be embarrassing, I bet the guys at sony were like, aww man we have to put this crap up?

AckeheceKoheo | November 16th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Also
is there any future plans to add PS2 greatest hits to the download line up of PSN games?
It seems a logical extension with most models having good PS2 compatibility?

Hi everyone. Just to let you know, we’ll be updating the PS Store next Tuesday, instead of Thanksgiving Thursday.
Im not sure if i understand you. Do you mean that the PSN store will be updated on Tuesday the 27th? (2 days before Thanksgiving thursday) Or did you mean that the PSN store will be updated NEXT week on Tuesday the 20th? (9 days before thanks giving thursday)
And if it will be updated on tuesday the 20th (9 days before Thanks giving thursday) will we recieve an update the actual week of Thanksgiving? Or will we recieve the updat next tuesday the 20th and be left with out an update for 16 days until December 6th?
138
enrichovega | November 16th, 2007 at 3:12 pm
@ritterrav
Thanksgiving is on the 22nd not the 29th. And we will be getting our update on the 20th.
Glad I could be of assistance. **logs back into warhawk**

Can you guys PLEASE make sure you give us the option for analogue control in future SixAxis games? I passed on both Go Ski, and now Toy Home because I can’t stand motion control.

WE WANT THIS
1. In-Game XMB: allowing us to do the below and much more. (or remove the XMB altogether and give us something better for a nex-gen console, and give us an in-game dashboard, the XMB feels low rate for the PLAYSTATION 3, and you’ve been using it on the PSX, TV’s, PSP, it gets old)
1. Play Custom Soundtrack for games.
2. Access Friends List, Game Invites, Messages
3. Under [Photo], they can add [Take Snapshot]
4. Under [Video], they can add [Record Gameplay].
5. View your active downloads, pause, and resume them.
6. So many possibilities with in-game XMB.
2. Game Invites: allowing us to send eachother game invites cross game.
1. Implement
3. Profile 2.0: meaning, we want things like Entitlements, Gamertags, Clans, things to display who we actually are. Our profiles suck so far. It shows our languages and an about me that nobody ever fills out.
1. Allow us to see the pictures and other profile information of the people under “Players Met”.
2. When in-game and we “click” on a players name, bring up there new profile. Not the game profile, the integrated PS3 profile with all the new features above.
4. REMOVED DUE TO FINDINGS IN 2.00 (Organization of Music, Videos, and Games)
5. PLAYSTATION Network XMB Options: read them below.
1. Allow us to change the icon for the [PLAYSTATION Network] with themes, right now, it doesn’t seem like you can.
2. Add [Entitlements], [IM], and [Game Invites] under [PLAYSTATION Network].
3. Remove friends and add it under [PLAYSTATION Network].
4. Add [Clans] under [Friends].
6. Password Protection: for user accounts.
7. REMOVED DUE TO DIVX COMING TO PS3. (AVI Support for the PLAYSTATION 3)
8. PLAYSTATION Store
1. Replace the PLAYSTATION Store with a new built in program that is not a web page. Like that, when you have to add new stuff, you just drop it in and it will organize and categorize itself.
1. Have text search.
2. Many organization methods.
3. Playable flash games would be nice.
2. Daily Updates: Give us a constant flow of updates for the PLAYSTATION Store, meaning daily videos, content. Basically, make us on par with Xbox Live.
3. Arcade Demos: For every downloadable game, include a demo. Don’t put it under the Demos section. Make it so when you click the game it will show the demo and full game.
4. ORGANIZATION: Make it so you can go to like Game Demos -> New Additions, Genres, Featured, All Demos (alphabetical). Same with add on content. Instead of having it all layed out like that, go to Games » Downloadable Content » Game Name » Select Content.
5. Archive Content: I’ve recently noticed you delete old game videos. Don’t do that, keeping it will an archive.
6. PSone Classics: Give us more PSone classics! We have been receiving games like Jumping Flash, games nobody ever heard of. Where is the good games, such as Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Warhawk, Mega Man Legends?
7. PS2 Downloads: Your competitors are launching downloads for their first console in their new fall update, why not do the same and give us PS2 downloads as well?
9. PLAYSTATION Network
1. Promote the network, have events featuring celebrity gamers, free downloads for the day (like an old arcade game such as Calling All Cars!), official tournaments, and such.
2. Let us set our own PLAYSTATION Network avatar, or add a batch of new avatars every week based on the newest released games and even Sony movies and sponsors.

gamesblow | November 18th, 2007 at 2:11 am
Sony, I know what you need… Why the heck don’t you have a PSN wrestling game in the style of fire-pro wrestling, only in awesome HD? I just got fire pro returns last week and I hafta say, this would own online, thru the psn. And in 720P or even better 1080P. Why don’t you have console specific genre games for us to play thru the psn? This would attract a huge ammount of people, this game. It’s already the number 1 ps2 game this month.
146
gamesblow | November 18th, 2007 at 2:13 am
Oh, and … Why don’t you fix the upscaler while you’re at it? The last update took away the upscaler. It sucks now. Everything looks all pixilated and nasty again.

i second your question. I would like to know as well.

Gavi | November 18th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
Some questions;
Can you give us any feedback on any Folklore downloadable content coming to the store?
Will you put themes specific to games in the store, e.g. Ratchet, Uncharted, Folklore, Resistance, MotorStorm, Warhawk?
Plus, more PS one classics would be appreciated and would it be possible one day to start updating the store more than once a week. It would improve downloading times for a lot of people as everyone jumps onto the network each Thursday to download the week’s content.
Thanks
