Firmware Update (v2.10)

403 0

Firmware Update v2.10 is now live. This new system update enhances media playback on the PLAYSTATION 3 in a number of ways that the PS3 community has indicated are important.

We are introducing a much-requested video playback format with this update: DivX and VC-1 (WMV) videos become playable in the Video section of the XMB. This update also brings the PS3’s Blu-ray drive up to Profile 1.1. “Picture in Picture” and other enhancements become available on Profile 1.1 compatible Blu-ray discs.

A voice changer feature is added, enabling you to change the tone of your voice during voice or video chat.

As always, we’re committed to enhancing PLAYSTATION 3 functionality, and we’ll continue to post firmware update details on the blog as they are released.

  • I think it would be a nice feature if they add an equalizer (maybe even 2 channels) in a future firmware, for people who use their PS3 to play music (CD/Audio-DVD/MP3), connected to a receiver.

  • One thing I hate with some PS3 games is to have to download patches.

I mean some developpers won’t even take time to properly finish their game. This is one big flaw we didn’t have with Xbox 1 and PS2, devs were forced to work to release a game that wouldn’t need a patch.

    @Sony
    About 2.10 update :

    – I often get disconnected from the media server, I have a Inventel DW-B-200-11817 router, this issue DID NOT occur with previous firmware versions.

XviD works fine on the PS3 so does WMV however H264/X264 AVI has to be supported, same as .SRT.

About people blaming Sony keep in mind that update need to be made without allowing hackers to crack the system.

  • Just want to say: thank you! DivX is great new feature i really didn`t expect. What a surprise! thx

  • Thank you to the whole SCEA team to make our digital dreams come true.

Do you think that the next firmware will fix my Blu-ray drive trouble :

Since I played this morning to the “mater-national championship game”, my US PS3 froze and I couldn’t load games or movies BD anymore.

Thank you for your help and your amazing work!

    Chris

  • I really enjoyed the update but here are some things i wish to see in the near future.:

    1. Allow music to be played through the whole system(games, setting, internet etc.)
    2. be able to invite friend into a game without quitting.
    3. view messages and reply during a game
    4. A in game XMB it doesn’t have to be fully functional just manage friends and music

Its nice you give us Dvix playback Sony, but basic features are still missing.

I really really wish you would do something about this.

  • PSP 3.80 firmware brought in internet radio.

Wishing that a future PS3 firmware update will have that function too.

Best even to support various streaming media type.

  • Sony,

Please be sure to read post #165 about the DVD/Blu-Ray resume feature.

I now use the PS3 as my main player because of the upscaling and high definition format and really need this feature.

    Thank you for your consideration.

  • @edwineverready
“@286 cod4 also says on the box that it plays 1080p, but this is not native if you want to play in 1080p you have to go to screen settings on your ps3 and dissable 720p and 1080i. some games are native 1080p like the darkness this game will play in 1080p.”

…I’ve heard this can actually cause problems immediatly or down the road because your setup is supposed to detect what runs better on your display system. Is that true?
I’m running a Sony kds-50a2000. at tv that runs fully/true 1080p with hdmi cable and yet most of my games play at 720p. this is starting to bum me out a little

  • can anyone help me..

can ps3 new firmware update be update on different ps3 region, is it ok? because there is a point on download terms not guarantee it, example ps3 region 3 updated on firmware update download on north america website.

the reason i ask is my ps3 is region3 (i think its japan) i’m afraid if i updated from japan website, the language is changed. i’m in indonesia(bought it in indonesia) and i want to play online, but sony won’t let ‘us’ play unless update it first (there’s no freedom on that, and suck too the download time, and i have to worry all the time when updating my ps3.. what if it fail.. what if it fail.. damn)

sorry for my bad english, thank you for your help, anyone

still i love my ps3… you better damn please us sony, dont let us down

  • First off, I would like to say I have never owned an MS X-Box game console of any type, nor do I plan on buying one. Ever. But all these supposedly ” New Features ” the PS3 and PSP are completely useless to me, simply because I CANNOT GET MY PS3 TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. Since purchase, my PS3 has been full of Error Codes, timed out internet advisory’s, unexplainable playstation network disconnections, and anything to do with remote start/play- forgetaboutit. I have called Sony, adjusted settings/ports on my PS3 and home network, but none of that made any difference in system performance. Did Sony sell me a lemon? Is there anyone else experiencing these issue’s as well ?? As I read most playstation blog comments during firmware updates, most of these knuckleheads yap about ” In Game XMB “, as for me, I just want my 1000.00 investment with Sony to work as advertised..

  • Might as well repeat my list until these features make it:

    Browser
    1. Flash player
    2. Maybe it’s just me but every time I hit start to enter an entry it puts a space at the end of what I’m entering?? Am I doing something dumb?

    Audio
    1. Full bitstream support. Why have the option if it doesn’t work for TrueHD? So confusing.

Under the section of kid control:
    1. Password on users
Helps make parental control easier. Is anyone with more than 1 child able to do realistic parental control currently?

    2. Countdown timer.
Parent sets timer upon which a save warning pops up and then shuts down 5 minutes later.

3.Start a blog thread on parental control as I know it’s a niche thing. I’d like to know how people are doing it.

    Under the store:
    1. One button downloading in background.

    On this update:
Love stage6 now that I’ve figured out how to download the videos. Downloaded several music videos so far – THANK YOU!

    On documenting these updates:
Why is it after every update it requires 2 hours of research how to figure these things out. How to use Stage 6 for example, or that bitstream doesn’t work for TrueHD, or how to media stream, or when to use bitmap type 3 (still have not clue? on that one). Please provide some info when sending out these releases.

    Marketing Tip:
    1. Keep beefing up the browser! Consider an ad showing the family at home browsing the web as a family in their living room on their big screen.
    2. Ship a cheapie keyboard/mouse with it so people can use the browser/chat features effectively from day 1.

Does the xbox 360 even have a browser?

  • Can we have an on-going feature poll where people can simply vote for their top feature? Make login required to prevent bogus voting OR don’t even vote, just base it on all of the feedback given from all sources.

Then list the features that have been ‘accepted’ and once they are ‘accepted’ put them in a separate list?

    Ie.
    What do you want?
In game xmb 2k votes (voting closed)
    Flash Player 1k votes

It’s definitely coming (not necessarily next update):
    In game xmb
    Home

Something like a flash player which may require business agreements, put into a consideration category or something like that so we know it’s recognized but cannot be promised at this time.

BTW, IMHO keep the frequent updates coming! It’s a minor inconvenience one time about once a month and these new features are nice.

  • I’ve got the firmware 2.10, but i cant play divx movies:(….please make an update which works!

  • I just put VC-1 (WMV) from the microsoft hd video website and the video plays in hd but it dont play the audio is that a bug or did they not add sound yet?

  • nice job once again SONY but i know your busy with other things but it would be nice to be able to messege your psn friends from Playstation.com.

  • i still think that there should be some in game music and in game friend status.

    that would be nice!!!

  • I have just bought a PS3 – i am not sure but is there a certain order you have to download updates in for them to work?

or have all the updates got the same things in them for people who have just bought one?

I downloaded 2.10 and my machine stopped playing BR and any other type of disc media, but then i wasnt sure if it might have been me forcing the machine to shut down when i got an error message –
i will be checking back, my main concern is if it is safe to download 10.2 straght onto a new machine and if i download it i wont have the same problem

  • Should be safe to upgrade to 2.10. Your PS3 will do the right thing.

  • Will the PS3 ever bitstream TruHD or DTS-MA?

  • We need an update that helps the system run smoother with games and accesories. I have been hearing alot about games freezing, getting games to play in 1080p, files just now starting to get ”corupted”, and recent featured not working. that would be great if you could work with those problems a little more SONY.

help us out with these small irritating problems sony, please?

Also is anyone having problems with their controllers freezing up once every half hour or so for about 3 or 4 seconds then working again??

  • @ Qzx_Rtk – Yeah I’ve been having that problem with the controllers. I don’t know if its the controller or if its the update… it only started to happen after I updated to 2.1 and I found taht while I was playing uncharted the controls would lock and w/e I was doing at the point wouldn’t stop for 3 or 4 seconds.

  • I’ll jump onto the controller “dropout: issue. Many times i’ve been playing a game then suddenly the controller is un-responsive and will not react to anything until seconds later. It’s happended on all of my games except R:FOM.

Just imagine, final lap on Magny-cours in F1:CE Shumacher about 1.7 seconds behind on “hard” difficulty. exiting the final turn the steering locks up and car vears into the wall and that’s it race over……that was not cool…

  • I read quite a few users were having issue on the BD drive after upgraded to 2.x (>=2.01) firmware. Some can play DVD/PS2 but not PS3 games/Blu-Ray movies and some can’t play a thing.
Now please tell me what were actually happened with their PS3! Because at this rate there’s no way I’m going to upgrade my PS3. I can’t claim warranty on my PS3 before making an expensive journey to overseas. And there’s no official Sony Playstation repair center at my country.

  • @ Qzx_Rtk
Yes… that is the only problem that I have with my ps3… I’m lucky that have nothing of those problems… but yes with my ps3 controller. Sometimes freeze in the home menu or sometimes in a game like warhawk that keep in a direction and shooting until I hit the home bottom…

  • 2.10 firmware rocks , good job guys.
    divx home video’s look great.

all we need now is mkv support and i will not need my xbox any more.
I wish sony would have put that much effort on the sony dvr DHGHDD500.

  • BEAUTIFUL UPDATE, i also have some suggestions for the next update like…

    -allowing RANDOM for picture slideshows

    -music playback under SETTINGS

    -xmb access while in GAME

  • The update is great if use the PS3 for watching all kinds of videos in diff. codecs. I use my PS3 mainly to play PS3 and PS2 Games. But the backwards compatibility of FW 2.10 still looks worse than BC of FW 2.0. I wish fullscreen and the upscaling and smooting of FW 2.0 would be back or even be enhanced. right now no matter if you turn of the smoothing/upscaling or not, the games look always the same, seems like there’s no/almost none effect. That’s poor for the 600USD Sony got from me…

  • wow thats nice but u know what would be even better on the next update if we could play music while we play, read our messeges while we play, and we should have like achievements like da xbox 360 has for the games o and how could i forget the home that 2

  • I have upgraded to 2.10 and now the DVD drive will not read any disks or PS3 games. This appears to be a common problem reported elswhere on the internet. Is the problem software or hardware

  • I’m experiencing the same thing as post 373. Bahamot said “Some can play DVD/PS2 but not PS3 games/Blu-Ray movies and some can’t play a thing.”

I have a 60GB PS3 running version 2.10. I love the updates and added functionality. A lot of media that I had before can now be played on my unit, but this seems to be at the sacrifice of PS3 gaming. My PS2 games still work, but no PS1 (I like a classic arcade game every now and then!) or PS3. DVDs and CDs still read. I don’t own any blu-ray disks to try out movie playback, but I’m going to rent one next week.

Judging by the other posts I found on this site and through Google, it appears that my problem is not isolated. Please release an update to restore PS3 game playback!

  • I would really like the controller to auto-shutdown when the console goes into screensave mode.
I often let the PS3 render Folding-Home units, but doing that during the night drains the battery in my controller.

  • It was an okay update, how about for New Years Resolution you release more classic PSone Games and update the PSP so it can play multi-disk releases if they become available for download.

I have made an article on a forum I visit for gaming and I want to show Sony and their fans my top ten essential firmware update features which need to be added to the PS3.

    http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?p=814076

  • Didn’t get a response in the forums, so I wanted to post something here.

After updating my 40gb PS3 with firmware update 2.10 I am no longer able to play my video files that played previously (except for one). I am streaming the video files over my home network via an ethernet connection. I am using twonkymedia version 4.4 beta. My files are transport stream (*.ts) files that contain mpeg 2 video (*.m2v) and audio that has been transcoded from AC3 to mpeg audio (mp2) using MPEG Streamclip 1.2b2’s “Convert to TS with MP2 audio…” function. Prior to the upgrade , this was working *perfectly* – I was streaming high def video off my computer onto my TV via the PS3 and loving it. Now, when I try to play these exact same files, I get the “Data is corrupt” message. Is anybody else experiencing this problem?

Also, I have tried using TVersity Release 0.9.11.4 (w/ ffdshow) and I am having the same problem. I also tried using WMP11 and I am having the same problem. I can play the videos in WMP11 on my computer.

I also tried converting my .ts file to an MPEG program stream file with a .mpg extension with mp2 audio using MPEG Streamclip’s “Convert to MPEG with MP2 Audio…” function and those files also return the Data is corrupt message from the PS3.

Oddly enough, I do have one *.ts file that is still working fine. I have looked for differences with that file in terms of the codecs and the container, but there is no differnce in the format that I can discern. The only difference is the content. And finally, I can play *.ts files that have not had their audio transcoded from AC3 to mp2, but this results in a fabulous hi def picture with no sound.

I was very happy to get the WMV (VC-1) support, but not at the expense of my transport streams malfunctioning.

    Any ideas?

  • Xvid does not work when streaming

    please sony

get your self a hacked xbox 1 and load XBMC on it

it has propper network folder support as well as media servers and it’s codec line up still is first class compared to any media player on any device including pc’s
It will also mount and play media direct out or archive containers like rar and zip

if the ps3 can play media like XBMC then it will rule the land as a media player

  • Hi,

Please for a future relase I will like to find following features :

1.- After download all pending and inactivity for a time, an “auto power off” executed automatically (option configurable by user).

2.- I found a problem, about all buton of remote command or sixaxis, power on PlayStation3. Some people touch the remote by error and then power on the PS3.

3.- A key on remote controller, for change (switch) during process boot (power on) video output, between HDMI Video signal. (very useful) if people have connected a video projector and the same time a TFT (TV) on video output connector. With it, we avoid to burn the lamp projector innecesary.

    Thank you.

  • On next update, how about changing folders in PS3? One thing PS3 is not good at is reading and handling folders. Always have to use triangle button to do so. One more thing is content organization. I can´t organize movies/music/photos properly. Always have to playlist the items to do so. Organizing by media name, year created, etc. isn´t just good enough. It would be better if PS3 could create media folders, recognizable by pen drives, memory sticks and, of course, Windows.

  • Please provide the option of playing music through the PS3 when using the PSP to access the XMB instead of streaming music to the PSP. This would let us leave our TVs (or projectors) off when wanting to play music through the PS3. I almost bought a PSP on the spot when I learned about Remote Play cause I thought I would be able to use the PSP as a remote control for the PS3. No such luck.

  • Next updates: PS3 Remote control but, via browser (https secure protocol). Will be a interesant option, i.e.: remote control power off, remote control power on and access to main menu for check downloads, messages, who is online, etc, and WITHOUT have to use a PSP only by internet and a browser (secure protocol).

Of course PS3 OS, should be a full secure system, thing I don’t know if a ingeniering people work in this platform want to spent time for it.

    Thanks and regards.

  • @387; good point!

  • Please provied a procedure about “system updates” area where an user option can choose if want use “automatic system update” through Sony servers.

i.e. Sony supply a new release, then PS3 clients:

(Previously user activate automatic update option, so it can leave Sony servers start my PS3 only about new releases.)

Then, procedure to my PS3 could be:

    1.- power on
    2.- download new release
    3.- install it
    4.- power off

I’m worried all times, when arrive to my home, I discover can login to PSN, after 3 o 4 attempts and I discover there is a new system release, then I have to download 100MB aprox. update my system, reboot, and then I can play. and so on…

    Thks in advance.

  • I tried divxs, svcds, vcds and they played ok. The xvid I tried did not work.

  • Do .avi files work?

  • @Sony

Just an FYI. Lots of people are still having issues with remote start between the PSP and PS3. The problem is that the ps3 is still starting on it’s own and disabling the remote start feature. Thus, disabling the ability to use remote play outside of the home. Is there a certain way we need to setup our routers to prevent the ps3 from starting on it’s own and disabling remote start? I have a very popular router Linksys WRT54G. Is there a different router I should be using? Are you guys still working on making the remote start feature better? When v2.00 was released remote start worked fine for me. Of course my ps3 would start on it’s own while I was away from home, but it would also sut itself off too. Since you changed remote start to disable via internet if the ps3 starts on it’s own I have been out of luck. I don’t know if you guys at sony look at the forums much but here is a link to one of the many threads about ps3/psp remote start problems. Thanks.

  • First, thanks for this “DIVX” update.

Also to please have a look to my top #3 requests :

#1: The PS3 is a multimedia machine… Video, Audio, Photo, Game… I’m wondering why we are not yet able to control the PS3 through an Universal Remote Control with a conventional IR Sensor. PS3 is still out of my Home Theater Setup since I cannot power On, power Off, Play, Stop, Seek in movies, photos… An universal remote control such as the Pronto’s should be able to remote the PS3.

#2: Add an Auto Power Off feature in the download section: As soon as Downloads are finished please Power Off the machine !

#3: Add an Auto Power Off feature as soon all the PAD are fully refilled. This option should be present is the “PS Button” menu that enable us to Power On/Off the system…

I have many other requests but here is my top #3.

    Regards
    FRED

  • First, I would like to express my thanks for the recent update. I am glad to see that issues are being addressed. I have included my suggestions for the future firmware updates below, and hopefully they will be taken into consideration. These items in my opinion MUST be added at some point to maximize enjoyment potential…please and thank-you!
If I have duplicated items suggested already I apologize, however; this would clearly indicate their importance to others as well.

    Thanks!

    ———————————————————————————————————————

-Region free – Allow for all standards in games / movies (Ex. NTSC and PAL support.)

-In game XMB allowing full access to any item it contains.

-Internet browser updates are seriously needed. Functionality is weak.

-I don’t want to have to download on the internet ever. The ability to display content on a website (Flash for example) should be a given, and up to date.

-When typing, a least allow for standard key short cuts. (ctrl a, ctrl z, ctrl x, ctrl v etc.)

-Add a print screen / save option.

-Increase options for sorting. It’s annoying when I cannot separate messages, games, demos, music etc.

-Allow for creation of new folders.

-The ability to adjust XMB and all contained contents via drag and drop.

    -Direct HDD access.

    -XMB volume control.

-Separate auto-play setting on DVDs / games.

    -Video up scaling.

-Option to adjust opacity on XMB and contents.

-Add way more content to the store, there’s just not enough choices.

-Allow support for all container formats. Why have any limits?

-Add the ability to run multiple things simultaneously. (Ex. Play a movie, without closing currently running applications.)

-Add a timer for PS3. Setting the system to shut down after performing a task would be wonderful. No more waiting.

-Add date and time on PS button.

    -Powered stand by USB ports.

-Individual icon manipulation. (Ex. Use own image.)

-Make iPod connectivity more efficient. Currently navigating files is difficult.

I am quite sure there is much more to include but this is all I can think of at the moment.
To me these items are very important so I will leave my faith with SONY. I am sure they won’t disappoint.

Have a good day / night all!

  • good list but you know that you can make folders in game and photos right? or you was just taking about music folders? just add a playlist if you want that….

about the browser updates yes is needed and the ability of copy and paste too…

the ability of charge the controllers it will be good but if needed just charge it in the PC.

Date and time yes please, what’s up with that?

And yes about watching Blu ray and dvds yes… why is the network shut down when we watch a movie? and when I push the PS home button why I can’t access the XMB? it’s like playing a game when watching the movies just without being able the receive message that make it worst. About in game XMB… well… I will not start with that, they know that already…

This and more things was talked before anyway… but it’s good to hear that someone are asking something beside the in game XMB…

  • Come the 8th of January, it will mark an anniversary for me in which I got my Japanese PS3 from eBay and looking back at last year, the PS3 has changed dramatically. When I got my PS3, it was on firmware 1.32 and I recall how medicore the PS3s features were but I was viewing the PS3 in SDTV for three months before I got the HDTV upgrade. Since a year, we have seen remarkable and excellent firmware updates for the PLAYSTATION 3 including Upscaling for DVD Video, PSone and PS2 games, Custom Themes, DivX support, Blu Ray Profile 1.1, Background Downloading, Remote Play Information Board and many more which have managed to justify in some people’s opinions the cost of the PS3.

However when this console was released back in November 2006, early adaptors could tell the firmware had been rushed as it lacked many features in which the Xbox 360 has and even today with the fancy upgrades, it still feels incomplete and inferior to the rival consoles. In this article, I shall name ten features which Sony should include in future firmwares to make it more convenient and accessable.

    1. In Game XrossMediaBar (XMB)
A feature in which fans across the globe have been demanding. The Xbox 360’s Dashboard can be accessed in game unlike the PS3’s XMB which leaves the player with a tiny menu of options. The addition of this feature will not only make the PLAYSTATION 3 look badass but will be a complete convenience for its users as the player cannot read or send messages during gameplay, neither can it use VOIP or use custom soundtracks in any game like the Xbox 360. Although Eric Lempel has said they are working on this feature, the question is to all PS3 owners is…..when will it arrive??

    2. PLAYSTATION Store Redesign
When I got my PS3 back in January 2007, I was using a SDTV and when I accessed the PS Store it looked like complete ass. SDTV version of the PS Store allows you to view 3 items at once whilst the HDTV version allows you to view 10 on the screen.

I came across this page on a website and forum. It is a PlayStation fan’s design of the PLAYSTATION Store and I got to say, it would be a nice and fresh revamp for the PSN. I suggest you check out the design as it adds convenient features such as search and its own homage to the XMB with its own icons and menus.
    http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=90482

    3. Game Collection – background downloads Game Updates
If you have Motorstorm, Resistance or Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, you would have noticed that updating the game enhances the experience but it comes at a price! Unfortunetly, you have to play the waiting game! Which no one likes! So to make life and PS3 awesome and free from annoying waiting times, heres the idea in form of “Game Collection”

[Game Collection] is accessible in the Home Menu under [Game] and when you play a PLAYSTATION 3 Game, it stores the game in your “Game Collection”. This feature will make use of the online features and will detect automatically if there is

  • a new update for your game. So if you have Warhawk, your current version is 1.10 and you log onto the PSN, Game Collection will notify the user of a new Update for their game and ask them if they wish to download it.

e.g. “A new update is available for the following Game, “Warhawk v1.20, Go to [Game Collection] then [Download Update] to proceed]”

When the user proceeds with the update, the user has the option to background download the update but cannot play the game in which is being updated by [Game Collection] until the download and installation of the update is completed.

This is a feature in which will make the lifes of PS3 owners less fustrating and better as no one wishes to look at a bar slowly edging its way to completion. Background Downloading should also apply for Firmware Updates too.

    4. Multiple Login into the PLAYSTATION NETWORK
I was reading a Warhawk FAQ on the PlayStation Blog and I was gutted to find out I couldnt log in with my brother at the same time but only have him as a guest. We are both looking forward to Warhawk’s release and its annoying that only one user can log in.

XBOX Live allows 4 users on the XBOX 360 to log into the Live Service and allow them to play online in a party together. Its a great way for friends to gather up, kick some ass and have a good time. I would like Sony to allow multiple usernames which have PSN access on the same PS3 to be allowed to log in at the same time, with Controller 1 as the primary XMB background but allowing them to press a button on the controller to read their messages, invites etc.

This again would be an awesome feature and a great way for groups of people using the same PLAYSTATION 3 to go online and work together in a team to prove themselves, please consider this feature.

    5. Extra Friends List Allocation
With the rising sales of the PS3 in recent times, the install base is getting bigger and if Sony are serious about the ten year lifespan of the PLAYSTATION 3, then they need to increase the limit of friends of a member’s friend list. Home is also coming and it is really going to bring the PS3 community together so allow more friends on the PSN!

    6. Power Saving Features
The PS3 uses a lot of electricity and thats no lie! It is also capable of making the electricity bill quite expensive for the bill payer. Whilst the PLAYSTATION 3 has power saving features in forms of screensavers and the timers in Folding@Home, it needs the following power saving features to increase system life and for convenience as well.

[*]Power off after Background Downloading has completed
[*]Power off Controllers after inactive use
[*]Power Off after inactive use in Home Menu
[*]On Low Power, download Firmware Updates and Background Downloads

XBOX Live has the same noice for everything when you recieve a message, get Achievements, Friend Online, Chat Invite, Game Invite etc.

    7. Sound Notifications
With the PS3 its kinda boring, you have a friends icon with

  • a message in the corner of the screen. Add some life into the PS3, have a sound notification for messages, online status, invites etc. and you could have theme ones so when you get a trophy via home, have a cheerful sound or when some invites you to a chat, allow them to have a custom or set ringtone to inform them of a chat invite!

    8. Upscaling of 720p Games to 1080i
This doesn’t effect me at all but a large community of HDTV owners who have a PLAYSTATION 3. Popular games such as Resistance:Fall of Man, Motorstorm, EyeCreate and Pro Evolution Soccer support one HD resolution which is 720p. Every HD Ready TV on the market does 1080i without fail, however for the unfortunate community, the game will downscale to 480i or 576i and HD Ready TVs will screw the experience of the PLAYSTATION 3 as a range of HDTVs and early HDTV models don’t support 720p resolution leaving many sad.The Xbox 360 scales the game in any HD Resolution and this should be implemented because many people are missing out on a really good HD Experience.

    9. Clock available during Home Menu and In Game.
We all need to tell the time and keep an eye on the time. Allowing users to check the time by pressing the PS Button is again a conveinient feature.

    10. Background Image for PlayStation / PlayStation 2 owners
If you have an HDTV *like myself* and playing the good old library, you will notice that the screen has borders. Not a fan of borders? Well this feature will do the same job as other images do in other classics available on PSN and XBLA. Choose an image from [Photo] from the HDD or other storage and it will replace the borders or outside the game picture with an image that has been selected, giving it the Super Game Boy or Classic Games Homage feel to it.

Although the PLAYSTATION 3 has excellent features, it lacks many convenient features and still has a crappy PLAYSTATION Store design that needs replacing. I am looking forward to the PLAYSTATION 3 this year and hoping that new features are added to the PS3!

Let me know which features from this list you like the most!!!

  • Most of people are still not satisfied, however we can notice the media center capabilities of PS3 is improving.

Now that you support DIVX, why don’t you support a little bit more features ? Such as :
    – subtitles capabilities by using SRT file format (many players and PS3 users are not american, and they like having subtitles in their own language. This would be interesting if you can load a SRT file, or automatically load the SRT file which has the same file name as the DIVX file . Also subtitle font and color adjustments would be great
    – now that you support DIVX, why don’t you start support another container? Currently many people is using AVI , but also MKV (Matroska) file format. It would be nice, since many HD contents are available as MKV, including subtitles capabilities (SRT same as DIVX) and multi-language audio tracks
    – support for x264 codecs as well, due HD usage

With those new improvements, PS3 would be much more powerfull and a better media center.

Hope we can see those soon !!
