  • Good stuff. Can’t wait to play it in the near future.

  • uhhh… where is the download? i’m on PSN right now and it’s not under the Add-on Game Content… urrrgh

  • Thank you very much. Really pleased to see you offering this free. Hope to see lots of great content in the store for Xmas tomorrow. Going to be a great week. Foklore and Warhawk content and best of all GT5 Prologue online play.

  • @ Eric.

It’ll install. I did it with other add-ons before I had the game lol.

  • This is sweet ! Now if only the Pain Christmas characters were offered the same way !!!

  • I love when we get free content! To bad it wasn’t for a game I own. :-\ But still a great job Sony and to the developers.

  • @gamegeniey

    I hear that !

On topic, this is a really great present and it’s these little things that, I feel, show the appreciation to fans. Great Job !

Out of curiosity, are the costumes going to have special bonuses or is that something I’ll have to wait and see ? ;)

  • Ok good job sony for giving out some free stuff but come on at least give us add on content for a good game folklore is the worst game for ps3

  • Sorry you didn’t like it Reefer_Smoker97. In my honest opinion, this is one of the best games out now. It was ambitious and different. The musical score was so great that I bought the soundtrack for 40 bucks off amazon, worth every penny. Folklore definitely delivers in artistic expression as well as having addictive gameplay.

  • Heck, my Xbox Live Gamertag is BuyFolkloreNow, if you have a 360, add me if you want. My gamertag is dedicated to its awesomeness LOL. Maybe I’m too obsessed XD.

  • Cool, thanks for the gift :). I have a reason to go back to the town :).

  • well my friend has this game so ill tell him about this free holiday pack. He’ll be very pleased. Thankyou for the continued support for games and firmware updates, this week has been an incredible week for updates for all systems PS3-PSP. Thanks Sony, your support to consumers is very much appreciated.

  • Thanks again for all the encouraging words. I’ll be sure to have as many of these posts translated and fowarded to Game Republc. Hope everyone enjoys this free download pack – it definately took a bit of effort on everyone’s part to get it done in time for the holidays.

  • Awesome! I’m actually getting this game for Christmas, so perfect timing Eric, thanks a ton.

  • After this, it would be cool if we could have DLC of the different creatures from Europe and Japan, i think it would be nice if you could tell the people at game republic that, Eric.

  • Eric you have to tell them to bring the Folklore soundtrack to the US.

  • Eric, why is there no announcement about the new update to this game which adds rumble support. Is it because the DualShock 3 controller isn’t available just yet in North America?

Anyhow, I’m having an issue with the game. I’ve downloaded the update and the new add-on packs and they install fine after downloading.

But, when I load up the game I’m getting a message saying ‘Installing downloaded data. During data writing, the HDD indicator will blink. Do not turn off power during copying’.

I’ve already installed the data and the indicator isn’t blinking. I hit the X button to go back, the next screen tells me that the writing is complete. Seems like there’s nothing to worry about, but I’m wondering why that message is appearing. Could you please address this issue?

  • Very crappy stupid game. Have no interest.

  • @not buying incog…whatever your name is, doesn’t matter anyway.

Ummm…i feel sorry for your sick duck. Hope it gets better soon tho!

  • WOW ton of xbots here!? Haters just go away and play on your crap box!

  • Off topic… How great of an early holiday gift would it be to get HOME today with the store update!?!?!?!?!

  • @43 eric
Wow, I’m constantly finding myself shocked that there are still so many out there who do not know that due to the PS3’s lack of universal scaling, if a game is created that only supports 720p, it will only play in 480p for the many users who have HDTVs that support 1080i and not 720p. If you really want to know the scoop, you can find details here- http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&message.id=1543758#M1543758

  • WHERE IS IT? IS IT EVEN OUT YET?

i’ve been on PSN last night and today and i still can’t find the download!!!

  • Thanks you guys. Folklore is still one of my favorite games. Merry Christmas!!!

  • SeraphimRhapsody – I can’t really talk about future releases (that would kind of spoil the surprise, wouldn’t it?) I can only say that you should definitely stay tuned to this blog for updates ;) And yes, I think releasing the soundtrack would RAWK! I’ll bring it up with the devs – not sure if there would be any licensing issues with releasing it in the US, but I’ll see what I can do.

Gavi – Man, I hope I didn’t steal someone else’s thunder by confirming DualShock 3 support… we’ll just keep this whole DualShock thing between you and me, okay? ;)

I’m not 100% sure what you’re seeing (you are successfully installing, but you’re expecting the indicator to blink?) It could be because the install was completed in the XMB, and the game is just “confirming” the install when you start the game (which is really fast).

buggs1a – Sorry you feel that way about Folklore, we’ll try harder next time.

leetfoo – You know, we had an issue at our recent Game Share in San Diego with some 1080p TVs that would only display 480 for a 720 game. I believe we had to set the PS3s to 720p (not use auto-detect). Again, I’m not tech support, so don’t have any details, but people that are only seeing Folklore in 480, give that a shot.

meepmoopmeep – I can’t access the PSN storefront on my dev kit here at work (I’ll have to wait till I get home to confirm the location). However, it SHOULD be in the game download section.

Last but not least, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

  • leetfoo – Ack, I meant we had to set the PS3 to 1080i/720p/480p. The highest detectable resolution (1080p) would play the game in 480 – at least that’s what I think was going on. Also, not sure if there’s a better workaround, so give a shout if you run into one.

  • I can’t get over the fact of how much the dude with glasses looks like Otacon from the Metal Gear Series.

    http://guidesarchive.ign.com/guides/569/images/otacon.jpg

  • Don’t worry about buggs1a Mr. Fong, he is just being a silly troll.

buggs1a (#68)- you probably prefer sub par games in sub HD resolution like Halo 3 don’t you? Guess what? Halo 3 was awful IMO, check my XBLIVE gamertag (BuyFolkloreNow), I’ve definitely played it. But, you don’t see me going over to the Halo 3 blogs and bashing it, do you? Exactly, quit trolling.

Mr. Eric Fong – This is what we need:
    1. Folklore Manga (The game seemed well set up for a Manga)
    2. Folklore Anime (Perhaps Game Republic could team up with Funimation?)
    3. Folklore 2 (That would make me SO happy! Especially if Ellen and Keats make a return!)

SeraphimRhapsody- You can get an import from Play-asia.com or amazon. Soundtrack is GODLY!

Also, last but not least, thanks again for the DLC, it really shows the heart you put in this game and your support for the obsessive, dedicated fans like myself =).

  • I don’t usually Comment on The PS Blog. But A Free Folklore update? Sounds Really great, could use all the free gifts this x-mas, I don’t even have a Christmas Tree……..Thanks Mate =D

  • @76 Eric
If you have a TV that doesn’t do 720p, you will be playing the game in 480i/p. It will not upscale to 1080i under any circumstances.

  • Can someone get Leetfoo a new Television for Christmas? Please??? ;)

  • leetfoo – Correct. If you have a standard definition TV (480i) or enhanced definition TV (480p) you won’t be playing games at 720 or 1080. What we were running into was on 1080p TVs forcing 720 games to run at 480 or not display at all (don’t recall which). Again, not a tech, so don’t know all the details as to what was going on. BTW, what kind of TV do you have?

  • @81 lol.
    @82 eric. I have a 65″ 1080i Mitsubishi HDTV that doesn’t do 720p. So… 480p in folklore for me.

  • Hey! Thanx for the gift!
I have actually installed it, I have selected the special costumes from the main menu for both Ellen and Keats but I’m still searching to get to the quest and it seems it must be done with Keats but I have tried in the pub during day and night but found nothing. Do I have to be in a particular chapter to get the quest Holy Night Visitor or the Grab Bag folk? The only things I got now are the costumes and they are great!

  • hey Eric, If anything you guys should release the soundtrack on itunes, just like the Uncharted and Warhawk ones are…

  • @ Captain Fury

I love the uncharted soundtrack. I’m listening to it right now.

  • I already asked Eric about it.

  • JDPoZ #77- I noticed the resemblence too, although Otacon is not as cool or suave as Keats.

    leetfoo #80 – 480p vs. 1080i
    http://www.rpsoft2000.com/information/hdtv.htm
Ups and downs on both. 480p (progressive) definitely offers the smoother experience. 1080i (interlaced) is less smooth, but a clearer picture.
In other words, can someone please get leetfoo a new HDTV for Christmas =)?

SeraphimRhapsody #86 – Uncharted’s soundtrack is nothing compared to Folklore’s =). Except Nephilim by Abingdon Boys School wasn’t on the 3 disc set. Still a way awesome soundtrack despite not having the song though.

  • the6one here…….

I would like to congratulate everyone at SCEI and SCEA. I can’t believe this SONY, but the playstation brand is again going to exalted as king of all other computer entertainments three times in a row. If you’re wondering how I know all this, let’s just say that I’m going with my gut feelings, and deep down inside of my gut, the message is playstation wins again, SONY, the kings of computer entertainment systems. Albeit, it will be tough to beat nintendo, but Microsoft will be the first taken down by the PS3. Next year is going to be amazing for PS3 and all vetran and new PS3 owners alike. I don’t know why you guys allowed this to happen Sony, but now all of a sudden I am not slightly concerned as I once was over the PS3 computer entertainment system. One of the biggest reasons why this machine came out of the gate struggling was because of the fact that internal issuses in the company were brewing as well as the PS3 being too futuristic, and might I add too expensive during its launch in November 2006. I can’t explain it, but the PS3 just doesn’t sound right being present and on the market for the year 06. However, 07 definetly fits the bill for the PS3 as well as future years like 08′, 09′, and of course 2010. I must say SONY you guys have done it again. The install base for the PS3 has already gone up to 2 million from 5 mil to now close to 8 mil. Ok, you guys were always in control, I’ll admit that. However, I wouldn’t say that you guys did not hit some bumps on the road either. Great job and good luck next year as the PS3 will at some point or another finally become market leader.

    the6one………

  • Eric, let me clarify leetfoo’s post. Back around 2000-2002 HDTV’s were sold that only play 1080i and 480p and 480i. So there TV does not play 720p period. So, since Folklore does not upscale to 1080i from 720p, the game goes down to the lowest possible resolution-in this case, 480p. Understand? I don’t have this problem personally but I feel for the people IN THE 100 PAGE THREAD ON THIS WEBSITE that have the same problem-most PS3 games don’t upscale to 1080i. Leetfoo, that sucks. Sorry, but nothing I can do.

  • Thanks! I downloaded it. Merry Christmas!

  • First of all: I love Folklore. Everything is great about it; the story, the music, the theme, the characters and so on. Except from the invisible walls. :P

And this holiday gift is great! At least it seems like it’s great. Somehow I can’t make it work. I’ve downloaded it and I installed it but there’s no sign of any new costumes in the main menu of the game. And when I tried to install it again it said the package was already installed.

Anyone have an idea what could have gone wrong? I can mention that when I downloaded it I went to brush my teeth and when I got back I had forgot what I was doing so I shut the PS3 down. This morning I remembered it and when I turned it on the download had reached about 60%. Could me accidently aborting the download without pausing have anything to do with it?

  • I didnt see this coming..Lol Thanks..

  • This may seem stupid but
how do i change unifrom thingys?

  • I am pretty late in posting, but whatever, i have to pass this message to the entire Folklore staff .

I am thanking you, from the deepest of my heart, for the magic and fantasy you have brought us in folklore. A dreamy fantasy, mixing Jade Cocoon/FF XII/Valkyrie Profile with a genji/haunting groud/shadow of the colossus …that was exactly what i wished would be coming up..simply because it has never been done before.

I started the game with Ellen, since her story really intrigued me. -(definitely love her scottish mini skirt ^^, yes yes i know it’s only to remind us where the story takes place lol)- Her story is really attaching the player to keeping on playing, and discovering more about her past. This is exactly what we look first in a game.
I then went on with Keats..had fun but definitely not as much as with ellen. Oh and I wish Keast had a different costume in the Netherworld.

Apart from the beautiful dreamy environment, the lovely music, the greatness of flashbacks and the exceptional gameplay (great job on the use of the sixaxis), i am thanking you for not forgetting about us.
The add ons you are releasing are very important to me. Dungeons, costumes..thank you!

One thing i wished we could do: play the dungeon in real-time via internet..in other words, complete chapters in a duo-mode (one player controls ellen, the other keats), both advancing through the game in real-time via the online mode.

Unfortunately, and again it has to be said, after few hours the game become repetitive..i think it is less repetitive than the other RPGs due to the humongous amount of folks!

One thing i noticed during playing: too much loading + framerate.

    My last words:
Thank you again, for the greatness of Folklore.
I will never forget that dreamy, poetic and magic adventure.

    Antoine
