Go! Skydiving From the Comfort of Your Sofa

Josh Miller's Avatar Posted by on Feb 06, 2008 // Producer, Sony Computer Entertainment America

Too scared of heights to skydive? No worries, just do it from your couch on PS3!

Hello there, PlayStation Blog readers. My name is Josh Miller and I’m the U.S. Producer for Go! Sports Skydiving, a downloadable game that will be available on the PLAYSTATION Store this week.

Go! Sports Skydiving is a skydiving simulator that uses the SIXAXIS motion controls to maneuver your character in the air. You can do aerial tricks, move yourself in a formation with other divers, control your landing spot, and more. We offer single player modes, online modes and cool global ranking system. Plus, you can download the replays of the best divers on the leaderboards and check out their high score replays.

There’s a lot more to Go! Sports Skydiving, so be sure to give it a try once it’s available on the Store. For now, check out the trailer posted below.

Happy Diving!

Soon as Sony gets those PSN cards out, consider me sold. Looks fun if it remains under $5.

+ dam6655 on February 6th, 2008 at 4:55 pm said:

I will it have voice chat for online? I liked the go ski online, but having no voice chat ruined the game, and I stopped playing.

+ driver on February 6th, 2008 at 4:55 pm said:

I think this game will be very interesting.

+ KittDJW on February 6th, 2008 at 4:56 pm said:

is this going to be hitting the UK store this week too Josh?..

Looking good. I’m getting it!

+ tirminyl on February 6th, 2008 at 5:10 pm said:

I am really interested in this game. Can’t wait to check it out.

+ cybereal on February 6th, 2008 at 5:12 pm said:

Someone missed a great opportunity for an eyetoy game here. It has to be dead simple, calibrate a background with the player outside of the view of the camera. Now let them stand in front of it arms out, the game should easily find the players silhouette. Use the shape of the silhouette to control direction and speed just like real skydiving… it would make me want to buy a big fan attachment that sped up variably while falling though :)

He said “Happy Diving!” – lol

K – little childish, but still funny!

+ ftwrthtx on February 6th, 2008 at 5:30 pm said:

I’ve been waiting for this game. Looks and sounds like alot of fun!

Will it be compatible with remote play?

+ crazypenguin on February 6th, 2008 at 5:41 pm said:

ug, don’t like it, sorry. its just, common, if i really wanted to have fun sky diving, i’d be doing that in ratchet and clank. i think this would be a great sequence in a game, you know, to replace the one that you do in ratchet in clank, but a stand alone? not unless its 1.99 or 2.99 i won’t even think about it. no offense or anything, just giving you my feedback. but then again, PLAYING WITH FRIENDS always makes a game better, and since coming over to a friends house is often for me, please do it over wifi, using the buddy list, so that you’re not like guitar hero and i have to try a billion times to play with my friends

+ cmargary on February 6th, 2008 at 5:41 pm said:

Looks cool… I will buy it if it have more features than the game… I hope the game is like the bowling one or better

+ wakester on February 6th, 2008 at 5:57 pm said:

Will there be a demo? I will have to check it out

+ joel on February 6th, 2008 at 6:46 pm said:

GO!sports ski was awsome, I hope they fix online with this one, and maybe more maps?

+ sonyman on February 6th, 2008 at 7:17 pm said:

i’ll only think about getting this if you guys give a demo of it first!
i still don’t get why every game doesn’t come with a demo, come on sony smarten up plz the (cough) other system gives demo’s with all there arcade games why cant you?
i don’t feel like wasting money on anymore games i’ll just play for 10min. then never again.

+ ItotheCtotheE on February 6th, 2008 at 8:00 pm said:

Looks interesting. Are you able to fall t your death? I’d buy it if you could. I still might buy it, but if you can die then I’ll definitely buy.

+ tdh on February 6th, 2008 at 8:37 pm said:

I’m with crazypenguin (@10). I just don’t see the point or appeal to this game. Looks beautiful, don’t get me wrong there, but I just don’t see the fun here or even who this game’s marketed to.

Price point will most likely be in the $9.99 range, and there are just better places to send that money. PixelJunk Monster, Super Stardust HD, etc; I’ll be taking the pass on this one.

+ gardea on February 6th, 2008 at 8:41 pm said:

How much?

If it’s under $5, I’m buying it.

+ Jackal888 on February 6th, 2008 at 10:19 pm said:

I was checking out this trailer on PSN. Looks like something I would like to play. I was not interested in GO!Skiing but this looks more my style.
Keep this casual line going. Keep doing non- traditional sports, surfing, sea diving, biking, etc .Maybe in the future you can release a GO!Sports compilation on PS2 with a motion controller add-on.Put 6 games in it and charge about $25.Show some commercials and it will sell.

+ artofwar420 on February 6th, 2008 at 10:50 pm said:

I love that there’s a nice variety of dl games in the PSN store, something for everybody.

+ Roger VDJ on February 6th, 2008 at 10:53 pm said:

Will this PSN game be available today on European Store? or only in US Store?

+ joshlovesps3 on February 7th, 2008 at 12:43 am said:

+ craigiversen on February 7th, 2008 at 3:12 am said:

This game looks like another really fun title! Looking forward to it, will Pal regions have to wait 18 months longer for it as we appear to be with Pain and High Velocity Bowling?

+ Gorvi on February 7th, 2008 at 5:01 am said:

Two questions: How much and will there be a demo?

+ Submish on February 7th, 2008 at 5:24 am said:

I’ve been waiting for this game, I’m a HUGE skydiving fanatic, my best friend is a skydiving videographer for the Flyboyz, i’m so excited!!

I downloaded the trailer that had been on PSN when it was put on there and the i did like the idea.

If it feels as good as it does in ratchet and clank i will be happy.

I fear thought that there may be a long wait as im in the uk and we still havent got PAIN which is another Game that looks good and that i want to play.

Oh yes and still waiting on the bowling one.

I must say thought that Toy Home is really rather good

I am waiting to see if #2 gets a response on Voice Chat. I guess we’ll see here in a few hours if it is included. I have to imagine since it’s the 2nd Go! Sports game that they have added some functionality. Maybe we’ll see some new content for Go! Sports Skiing sometime soon as well (no big deal if we don’t though).

+ xxLONESTARxx on February 7th, 2008 at 6:29 am said:

Semi interesting. If it comes in under $5 I might pick it up out of boredom :)

+ brentos on February 7th, 2008 at 7:16 am said:

Anybody here ever play “Just Cause”? It was basically a lot of skydiving plus shooting stuff plus driving around. I picked it up for $15 a while back. That’s all the skydiving I need.

+ Rux on February 7th, 2008 at 7:31 am said:

Woah, this looks amazing! I don’t know about everyone else, but the video definitely caught my interest

Are you going to answer any of these questions. Josh?

Th egame looks cool, hopefully it’s under $5 and I’ll get it…GoSKi was such a disappointment, so short, and hard to control, no voice chat..etc. etc.

hopefully there will be a demo!

+ Torgo on February 7th, 2008 at 8:34 am said:

I have the Japanese version, and this game’s quite fun.

+ AthrunZala0SEED on February 7th, 2008 at 9:05 am said:

Demo please!!

+ Bender Rodriguez on February 7th, 2008 at 9:08 am said:

I actually would consider this if you could use the analog and not be forced to use the sixaxis stuff. Not a fan of tilt sensing stuff.

+ HanSolo on February 7th, 2008 at 10:37 am said:

i want a go sport hunting game, where you could even team up with your friends.. and set traps up… with leadearboards.. best teams with biggest catch, best solo hunter….

where you could hunt at day and nights.. with beatiful scenery…. and put your trophies in home…. when it comes out..

and also, a go soccer game, like 3 on 3… simple and fun, with lots of costumization and multiplayer options

dam6655, unfortunately this game will not have voice chat.

Go Sports! Skydiving will be selling for $4.99.

KittDJW, I believe that Skydiving will be hitting the UK store this week as well.

ftwrthtx, remote play will not work with this game due to the requirement of motion sensors in the sixaxis controller for this game.

ItotheCtotheE, that is pretty gruesome. : ) You cannot fall to you death in this game.

+ craigiversen on February 7th, 2008 at 10:48 am said:

I can’t believe it! This company is clever enough to actually find a way to release in Pal regions on the same day as the US. I can only praise your sanity for that Josh!

This game looks fun! I’ve sky-dived once in real life in Hawaii and it was a really good, fun, and challenging experience for me since I have a fear of heights. I’m looking forward to buying this today.

Question: is there a first person view? It would be cool to see how it really feels to be falling out of a plane.

+ heisert on February 7th, 2008 at 9:44 pm said:

the games does have nothing. great graphics but not more. :(
how can i invite friends? where can i see friends on the leaderboards?
I am disappointed!

+ Spaceghost4284 on February 7th, 2008 at 11:34 pm said:

What a waste of development hours. Sony should have put these people to better uses than making a shallow and boring game like this. Last I checked Ratchet & Clank did skydiving as a very peripheral feature to show off the sixaxis. Definitely not even worth $5 bucks. Sony needs to quit trying to pull a fast one on the more naive purchasers out there and actually make some deep quality games that are worth their price tag.
