MLB 08 THE SHOW Weekly Update: My MLB Music + Demo Details

75 1

My name is Jason Villa, with some news about how to get your custom music playing with MLB 08 THE SHOW.

Each year we try to incorporate features that allow you to customize our MLB THE SHOW franchise to your specifications. Making a soundtrack to satisfy all players, from all walks of life, is nearly impossible. So, in an effort to please all fans of the MLB THE SHOW franchise, we are offering the new My MLB Music feature. My MLB Music will allow you to take the music you have on your PLAYSTATION 3 Hard Drive or on your PSP Memory Stick Pro Duo and create your own Jukebox Playlist. From the Jukebox screen below, just press the circle button to activate the My MLB Music feature.

MLB 1

Once you’re in the pop-up, you can Create a new playlist, Load an existing playlist, or Edit an existing playlist. On the PS3 My MLB Music screen, you can organize your music list by Artist, Genre, Album or song. From there, select the track(s) you want to be included on your custom playlist and save it. Take a look at the shot of the PS3 My MLB Music screen below.

MLB 2

Once loaded with your My MLB Music custom playlist, you can navigate the menus, check out stats, and train up your Road to the Show player with your custom music playing in the background.

Don’t worry, we still have a stellar soundtrack included on all three releases of The Show. The soundtrack includes names like, The Ramones, WAR, A Tribe Called Quest, Queens of the Stone Age, ZZ Top and more.

Hope you enjoy MLB 08 THE SHOW and the My MLB Music feature when the game launches March 4th. In the meantime, try your hand at the MLB 08 THE SHOW demos, hitting the PLAYSTATION Store for PS3 AND PSP this Thursday!

  • It would be better if either they or Sony allowed you to access a networked drive for Music. I dont want to have all my music on the PS3 HDD directly I listen to it all through the media server. Access to that in-game would be sweet.

  • Only a few weeks to go :). I can’t wait to try the demo tomorrow. Another thing, I looooove this feature, but I feel that all PS3 games should have it ::Cough::XMB::Cough::, thanks for being one of the first games to include it. I will spend a lot of time playing the season and this feature will make it even better.

  • EFFIN AWESOME!!!! Cannot wait for this year’s “Show”

  • @JMchile

    Hellz Yeah!!!

  • Great addition. I’m not really a huge baseball fan but MLB 04 was fun when I had it. Question: can you mix and match custom with included soundtracks? Not like so you could export them, just have both in a single playlist?

  • Sweet Demo tomorrow!!

  • I forgot to ask this last week, but are the swing styles going to be different for certain players. I ask because in mlb 06/07 Ichiro and other japanese batters had a different stance, but really swung the same way any other player in the game did. I’ve always had trouble finding a stance when creating myself since I sort of use the crane style in real life. Just wondering if Ichiro or Fukodome will take an extra step towards first base?

No one should fault an early adopter. At the time I purchased my HDTV it was roughly a thousand more to get a TV that did 720p as well as 1080i and that was the early, early DLP models that rainbowed and lagged in gaming.

Part of being an HD product is the ability to output in nearly all HD signals. You can’t pick 720p only just like you couldn’t pick 1080p only. A scaler is included in every single piece of high definition equipment to this day….except the PS3. Sony’s excuse? They said they didn’t realize people still had 1080i only tv’s (which are still being sold in stores to this day).

  • cant wait for a good baseball gaem, looking foward to the demo

  • OMFG! I’m buying this game the first minute it comes out!

    You guys make me proud…………….

No other game company has allowed such a thing in a ps3 game…and you guys really wow’d us…this is awesome.

I mean I respect the OST of the game….but not everyone listens to the same kind of music as everyone else…I want some metal in my games and few baseball games have that…

This game is sick, best baseball game ever!

If there’s not a co-op in the final game I’ll forgive ya, but it’s a great idea, an update/DLC with that feature later on in the season would be well worth it.

Thank you Sony’s Division of MLB!

  • So, where’s the demo?

  • I wanted to respond to some of the questions posted on this blog. Please take a look at the responses below and let us know if you have any other questions.

    >> I like the new features. Now we need to be able to put our own music on batter walkups, or when relief pitchers come out.
This is a great idea and will happen for MLB 09. This was just step one for the My MLB Music feature.

    >>Does it support the XMB playlists or just those created from within the game itself?
This year the feature supports playlists from within the game, not from the XMB. Good idea for MLB 09.

    >>Could ya’ll possibly make this game where the PSP version and the PS3 version can share stats?
Fantastic idea. This isn’t available for MLB 08, but a good idea for MLB 09. We hope to have PS3-PSP interactivity for MLB 09.

    >>O YEA! HEY how longs the demo gunna be? a couple of innings?
The demo will be 3 innings with the two teams that were in the 2007 World Series.

    >>But will it support 1080i or only 720p?
MLB 08 The Show will supports 720p, 1080i and 1080p. We suggest playing the game in 720p. We feel the game plays best in 720p.

    >>Will there be a bonus item when you purchase the PSP game like there was with 07? I loved the MLB hat.
There will be the hat promotion again this year!

    >>Can someone explain me why they didnt add some dust?
You will definitely see dust in the final game, come March.

    >>can you mix and match custom with included soundtracks? Not like so you could export them, just have both in a single playlist?
Yes you can mix and match custom music with the tracks the game ships with. You can create however many playlists as you like (within reason of course).

  • Thats cool all that will be added in MLB 09. i hope people see this and dont skip over it cause its a few posts old.i just rented 07 and cant wait for 08

  • Ah, no custom music in the demo from what I’m seeing here as I play it. Looks like I’ll have to buy it ( :’,

  • Just played the demo.

    Wow…..

  • Boy I sure hope the retail game is better then the Demo. The demo was not retail quality. Guess pitch doesn’t work and no stitches on the baseball when pitched. Ball is jerky as heck when hit foul. FAR FAR WAAAAAY too many fouls by the cpu when it has 2 strikes on it even when lowering the foul slider and cpu contact slider all thew way. Pitching control sucks same as MLB07 the show. You throw a fastball down the middle and it ends up a ball or same for a curve etc. Pathetic. That’s one thing I HATE from 07 the show. The beachball sucks in the crowd. That doesn’t happen in real life hardly ever. I’ve never seen it and have heard about it only a couple times in all the years I watch baseball. Replays were somewhat jerky, the ball was and never was in the 07 the show game. Sound was a bit off in the replays compared to 07 the show. Graphics are better over 07, but not amazing. Commentary still freaking sucks. WAY too repetitive and WAY to many comments from 07 which were extremely repetitive like every game or many times in the same game stuff is said. The pitched ball seems faster even at the lowest slider setting compared to 07. This be bad. Change ups don’t sink like in 07 they do, but not sure if that’s normal or not. 07 change ups seemed to sink more then i thought changes should though. i don’t like how in 08 the show the icon for pitches does not have the revolving circle around the pitch icon like in 07 between each pitch. 08 will be awesome I’m sure though.

  • @buggs1a
Is this your first baseball game ever? You know you can turn the difficulty to ROOKIE, right?

I didn’t have trouble striking out the opposite team. Know where your pitches are going and don’t become predictable, that’s the key.

I completely disagree with your statements, this demo blew me away, from the humongous stadium design, to the crowd, to little elements like the crowd getting excited when my team has a chance at getting some runs, etc.

Batting has never felt so much fun, the cpu can actually strike me out! This is the first time where I actually feel challenged by the cpu when it comes to pitching, I mean and it’s not unfair pitching, the cpu will make you swing at bad pitches lol and they won’t give in unless you show them you can be patient :D

The game is overall fun, the players move so realistically in the field, I mean there are plays which always looked weird in other games, but you here the animations are perfect.

And I love the pitching, you really feel like you’re pitching with Josh Beckett.

Awesome stuff! Will buy for sure!

  • Does the sound seem to be in mono for the PS3 demo for anyone else? The graphics and gameplay are fine, but the audio just sounds awful when I play the demo. My internet connection went down at about 60% downloaded, but the download picked right back up after I reset my router. That couldn’t have caused an error in the demo during the download, could it have?

  • I’ve played baseball video games for many years. I forgot about the Veteran, Rookie etc lol. I totally forgot.

What I was saying are just some things I don’t like. I love the game though, but didn’t like the beach ball, don’t like how the pitched ball is white with no stitches and the guess pitch was not working correctly compared to 07 showing location of correctly guessed pitch. Those are the only things I didn’t like.

The graphics are very very very nice, but not awesome to me. I say awesome to something like CGI animated movies graphics which no game currently is, so graphics aren’t awesome. I love the graphics though.

I liked how the crowd went for foul balls sometimes and how the ball doesn’t just disappear into the crowd anymore when hit foul etc. In 07 it is so stupid to hit home runs and the ball just goes through everything. that aint right. it should bounce off stuff in the stands or be caught by a fan. 08 improves this a bit i think from what i saw.

i know I’ll love the game!

  • I want to know about the online. 07’s online was the worst joke I have ever seen. I don’t think I ever finished a game without this “traffic delay” that would pretty much freeze the whole game. If online is FUNCTIONAL, I will buy this game. If not, I’ll spend my money elsewhere.

  • I throught the 11 CD’s worth of Music I had on my PS3 would go to waste.

  • I would like to ask if the full game will have collission detector, because on the demo it is weird that the players just pass-through other players as if they were ghosts (PS3 version).

Also, I thought that for 2008 there would be umpires and coaches on the PSP version but sadly there are not. This is important for realism, at least show them!!!! Feels that something’s missing when playing the game.

  • The game looks great! I wish they would of done a bit more though. Like in MLB 2K7, the manager could argue, but it can’t be done in this game. Also, there isn’t anyone in the bullpen. And what’s up with the guess pitch? Overall it’s a good game and a must buy.

P.S. Can you edit players walk-up songs? And could you play in Citi Field in your second year of franchise? Please leave a comment below written out to me.

  • Just got my game! The juke box is awesome after
games it blasts songs from your jukebox in the stadium speakers… Nice touch.

  • Got my order in yesterday and the game is great, the new concept for road 2 the show is awesome. The only thing that i would have liked to see is the possibilty to create/load a picture for your career player.
