The Game Developers Conference isn’t just about showing off new games (really, that’s a rather small part of the conference). It’s a place where aspiring game developers can land themselves the job of a lifetime. Like working for Insomniac Games. As if getting to work on the Ratchet and Resistance series wasn’t incentive enough, the Insomniacs are attempting to lure in new candidates via song at their booth. Take a look:

I actually applied for internship, but I don’t know if it’s any good.
I’m currently a Mechanical Engineer, 3rd year, @ University of British Columbia, Canada. Can anyone tell me what opportunities there are in the gaming industry, or more specifically Insomniac Games, for a guy like me?
I’m just so awe struck by the gaming industry and how it encompasses SO many different forms of Art and Science, that it would be so cool if I could integrate my Engineering Degree somewhere there…
dreams…

My life goal is to work for Insomniac one day. I want to be a programmer and I am taking classes for it already. I am going to send an application one day.
The video was great!

How can I get in the door at GDC? I’m in Sacramento and only 90 minutes away. I’ve been an active member of the PSU for over a year now and would love an oppurtunity to check out GDC please.

You really need some tie in to the industry, be it development, education, or media. It’s not open to the public…

I-PWN-n00bs-A-LIVING | February 20th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Hopefully they show Resistance 2. That would be sweet, but I doubt it, because it was just recently confirmed.

KnaveX | February 20th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Well I hope to make a sony dev one day, with my own company. But I want it to be a close relationship with insomniac and naughty dog.

Ghostm | February 20th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
LOL, Sony is so smart!
I like how they post this Insomniac post to lighten up the dark tone of the last post. This post is getting a 1 star from me that’s for sure. Why don’t we get back to the real issues huh? I’m not interested in seeing this dude from insomniac play his guitar. Save me the BS’

bond2e2 | February 20th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
i need something new to play, or at lest something to look forward to. Haze keeps getting pushed back, dont know when home comes out or the in game xmb, little big planet not for a long time same with resistance. we dont know anything about what is going on and it is annoying, and the stuff we do know that we can get excited for is not true and the game is going to get pushed back or it was just a rummor

aaquib | February 20th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Too bad we don’t have any confirmation that we’ll be able to message friends during Resistance 2.
31
OrganicShadow | February 20th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
@29: Actually Haze just got pushed back up to March instead of May, so…. no?
Also, no worries with Insomniac. They never have delays. :)

Solace | February 20th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
20 different levels of awesomeness.
BTW – Anyone else notice it says “R2″ on his shirt. Is that the new Resistance 2 logo?
33
aaquib | February 20th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
@29
Sony got their marketing strategy mixed up.

To work at insomniac is one of my goals.
Hey Sony, Do you think you could add RSS support when your done with in-game xmb? that would be awesome.
35
I_Love_New_York | February 20th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
07/08 is probably either the release date for more info or that is when we are getting a demo over PSN for that game.
36
diablo103 | February 20th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
that was pretty funny
37
bond2e2 | February 20th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
i am sure resistance wont get pushed back, Insomniac is good with that. Resistance fall of man 2 is going to be tight. Sony though should make information easy to get and tell the people buying there stuff what is going on. it wont hurt them in sales if anything it will help

Voozi | February 20th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
I wonder how “easy” it’s going to be to get into Insomniac, I’d love a job there or at a Sony related studio.
I get my Associates Degree in Computer Science – Game Development at the end of Spring Semester 09 =D then w/ that I’ll work on getting my Bachelors *deep breathes* theeeennnn with that! go hang with Ratchet & Clank! haha
42
Ghostm | February 20th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Sony’s got you all. See how easy you guys forgot about the last post debates? That’s exactly why they post this dude singing. We all just got clowned!!!

KnaveX | February 20th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Jeff? didn’t you have any ‘interviews’ planned for today?
Jeff Rubenstein replied on February 20, 2008 at 9:50 pm
I did. I’ve been hit with a fever in the 102 range, and I’m doing the best that I can. Shot an interview with Travis Williams (PAIN), but had to go as my condition worsened.
I will figure out a way to get those questions answered, sorry bout that.

thingg | February 20th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
@Ghostm
Why don’t you just shut up already? If Sony’s got stuff ready, they will tell us about it.
btw, interesting video. Insomniac rocks. I would loce to work for them, but I doubt I’d ever be able to get in. btw, that guy can’t sing…

47
DIsmael85 | February 20th, 2008 at 4:57 pm

48
tirminyl | February 20th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Ha, awesome video. If Insomniac needs a SCM guy, I will be there!
49
cduran02 | February 20th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Though it looks like a lot of fun in the video, I know that fun is balanced out by a crap load of work and pressure (thats the nature of the beast, believe me I know).
Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted to work making video games. But instead now Im a firmware developer. Though I’ve been hitting the books and learning OpenGL, gonna try my shot at game development, after all that was my original intent before getting my Computer Engineering degree.
