Firmware Update (v2.17)

xmb is sort of like a window manager, To the user its what you see on the screen when your not in a game.
When you click on the home button on your controller in game and have the options to quit game, switch off controller shut down console etc we were origanally supposed to be able to access the friend list. This would alow you to be in a game of moterstorm, see that your freind has come online and started a game of resistance.
Click join game and have moterstorm eject and the console wait for you to insert resistance. When you insert the game you skip the menu etc and go directly into the server your friend is playing on.
Sony say they are having problems integrating it now, what I think the problem is is that they didnt tell developers to allocate enough memory for the future addition of in game xmb.
If this is the case and we eventually get in game xmb it is possible not all our games will be compatible with it, resistance and Motor Storm might be possible offenders.
Not the game developers fault of course.
But Sony no undoubtedly now that there’s nothing better for selling your product than vapor ware and FUD. And no better way to defend themselves then not saying anything and keeping people in the dark. The people monitoring this blog were hired to be the gatekeepers between Sony officials and the consumer.
They can disagree if they want but if they do then they will be admitting their lack of ability to do their jobs.
If they say they have told Sony representatives what there customer base wants then they will be admitting that Sony, here all the rumors. Anyone remember those “leaked” feature lists for the 2.0 firmware, Sony didn’t dismiss this rumor to sell more consoles. Makes me sick to the stomach that they are using there current fan base as their marketing tool for fud. Why does the current fan base do this, because they spent allot of money on this console and want some way of justifying it to their friends.

@230 if you have a problem with a product you let the company that made the product know.
Companies should compete with one another and not sit in the corner doing sweet **** all because they won lasts generations war in terms of sales.
If western digital come up with a 5 terabyte drive tomorrow seagate are not going to say, no we prefer the 2 terabyte drives so we wont bother attempting to design a 5 terabyte drive of our own.
When operating systems went from text based kernal user interfaces to graphical interfaces you didn’t see any guys developing competing operating systems say well we don’t need that do we. Both hardware and software are evolving constantly now. The way we view hardware has also changed. We didn’t expect firmware updates for a tape player in the 90’s that would be outrageous. But today its a different story, you see most other company’s are quite comfortable with change and competition and this has benefited the consumer.
I have bought quite a few PS3 games so far, 10 actually and the games are important to me too and everyone else who is fed up with the lack of information and solid release dates for home and in game xmb.
The reason they are annoyed is because an in game friend list would improve there games and also mean more features to the friend list in thr normal xmb like joining a friend online without the hassle and setting up a group session from the xmb, the release of home would mark the release of achievements in the xmb. I doubt they will release the new functionality before home.
