You may have wondered what that counter was ticking down to on top of Threespeech, or read bits of information on sites like on Eurogamer, or recently dropped by IGN for the video reveal – but here’s the news in its entirety: MotorStorm 2 is coming this fall.
The MotorStorm style of anything-goes racing is moving from the mountainous desert to a lush Pacific island, replete with thick swamps, dense jungle, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes. You’ll be rampaging through thick mud, tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, and searing lava pools of this new location with all of the vehicles familiar to players of the first MotorStorm: ATVs, rally cars, buggies, motorbikes, race trucks, mudpluggers and Big Rigs. Joining the cast is the new monster truck class, likely to become a fan favorite (check out the video below).
It’s still a bit early, but here’s what we can confirm as far as features are concerned: 16 new multi-route tracks, 16 players can race head-to-head online, and a hugely requested feature hits MotorStorm: 4-player split-screen mode.
We’ll have more updates as MotorStorm 2 nears release, but in the meantime, take a look at the new environments and new monster truck in this just-released trailer.

I liked the M1 demo, but I am glad I waited. M2 looks much better.

Will this game support 1080? wither natively or via an otional upscale?
WARNING TO POTENTIAL BUYERS:
If you own and HDTV that does not accept 720p signals, but rather relies on the external device to match itsh HDTV resolution, the PS3 is not capable of automatically upscaling to 1080.
If the option of 1080 is not included in this game, the PS3 will downscale the 720p signal to 480 and you will NOT be able to play this HD game in HD on your HDTV.
Please check compatability before purchasing.

Looks very exciting. Im surprised by the comments about real in-game footage. They seem to forget that it wont be released until the end of the year. We havnt even got a trailer for resistance, or in-game footage of GTA IV.
I expect a lot of coverage on this and Res 2 at E3!

This looks sweet! But one question? Whats up with the Jamaican rock music? I know this one takes place on an island paradise but the music is kind of off for what it was in the first game. M1 had killer hard rock, and classic rock tunes you could hear in the back ground.
If this is the kind of music we get in the full game count me out I hate that crap. They do nothing but rip off other artists hard work and plant their own spin on it with out asking for permission half the time.
I had to deal with this crap at my last high school prom and It was hard because the music claimed it was the original piece (released in 2002) when it was just a Jamaican knock off of a classic rock tune made back in 1986.

What’s with people who can’t count? 16 tracks is amazing. How many tracks do you think there are in other racing games? Most have just a handful with variations. Motorstorm did the same thing, a few tracks with some differences in vehicles and time of day.
I’d love to see more multi-direction tracks (a 10k version, a 5k version and a 1k loop on the same map), but who knows.

@juanleche – I believe the dev kit comes with a scaler for games now to mimic 1080p output even if a game isn’t native 1080p. I’m sure this game will support all resolutions, but hopefully we’ll get a clear cut answer.
My TV supports all resolutions, but your point is a valid concern.

Looking good,But like many others I hope they increase the tracks to 20 or more or if not have biweekly dlc. If the game looks as good as this footage and plays the same this will really sell some PS3’s. One would think this developer familar with this system should be able to knock it out of the ball park with pushing this PS3 to the high end of it’s limits….

That trailer looks awesome! Even though its CG , I know Evolution will meet, if not exceed, all of our expectations from that trailer. Splitscreen confirmation is great. I just hope we see more tracks and 1080i support.

musik2020 | March 12th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
sony’s got to get serious, 1st motostorm trailer was basically a movie, and actual game was nothing like it, and tis time around again wit the same strategy, deff not goin to work, id rather see actual gameplay, instead of this whole CG stuff, theres no point of misleadin people, everyone knows if you release CG its either cuz theres nuttin new to it. no wonder gran turismo or killzone look like they do, almost 3 yrs in da making, motostorm basically being rushed wont do it. if the actual game looked exaclty like this teaser, than for once i cud say sony had delivered, until than stop promising fake hopes.

Jeff, what up my man? Hey what’s the name of that song in the video, sounds like a cross between AK1200 and Dj Shadow’s six million ways to die. Please I really want it. Btw, I hope they’ve resolved the slow motion blur from the original,.
any word on Home?

I can’t wait to see the finished product! I loved the first game and everything about this one seems to be an obvious improvement of the series. Can’t wait to see some actual in-game footage though.

@ 38
According to Evolution Sudios themselves, they designed MotorStorm without split-screen right from the beginning; therefore, it wasn’t something they could easily add with their engine. Since MotorStorm 2 is mostly being developed from scratch, they were able to implement it.
Anyway, video looks great and I can’t wait. I was hoping for at least 12 tracks, so 16 is a nice surprise. I just hope there’s a huge variety of events this time.
Anyword on Quick Race? That’s a feature I’d love to see added (when I want to just play MotorStorm for fun offline on a track I like).

Also one thing I am wondering about can you play with three other people on split-screen online?

This will probably be delayed till 2009…..but its a day 1 buy for me, i just loved MS1, so addictive, and now this 16tracks, offline and splitscreen…….it just got better, shame it was only alot of CGI and no real gameplay….

I enjoyed Motorstorm quite a lot though it’s flaws were definitely out there (loading times, anyone?).
Definitely looking forward to seeing what you guys do for a sequel. The possibilities have the wheels spinning in my head.

ennemee | March 12th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
I blindly purchased part1 when i got my ps3. had some issues with it but it was to be expected. I did enjoy the game for awhile. i just think sequels come out way too fast nowadays. and then to have to buy new stuff for the already expensive game every other week or so… it’s just a little too much, guys. and on top of that only 16 tracks and one new vehicle?… maybe ill come back with motorstorm 5: in space , which should be due some time next year.

Can you confirm the rumors of the PSP firmware 4.00 that have been circulating around the internet Jeff or am I completely off-topic and I don’t deserve an answer?
91
thingg | March 12th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Wow @ the jungle foilage. That gives Uncharted a serious run for its money. If the actual game has graphics that are close to that, I’ll definitely buy it.
Motorstorm 1 was ok, but I really hated the soundtrack and the lack of offline multiplayer made it boring. (This forced me to play Burnout Revenge PS2 for a racing multiplayer and while its fun, it only supports two people)
So, will this game support custom soundtracks? Not a huge deal to me, but it would be a VERY nice to have.
Also, @#12
great idea with the unified boards/blog/PSN login. That would make it a lot easier to expose the spammers and trolls.

Why put girls over monster trucks?
This type of monster… “kill” two woman in this trailer…
xD
The game will be more violent?
So… MotorStorm 3 is going.. to where? Road? Cities? Than we need Karts :D
