You may have wondered what that counter was ticking down to on top of Threespeech, or read bits of information on sites like on Eurogamer, or recently dropped by IGN for the video reveal – but here’s the news in its entirety: MotorStorm 2 is coming this fall.
The MotorStorm style of anything-goes racing is moving from the mountainous desert to a lush Pacific island, replete with thick swamps, dense jungle, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes. You’ll be rampaging through thick mud, tangled undergrowth, swift flowing rivers, and searing lava pools of this new location with all of the vehicles familiar to players of the first MotorStorm: ATVs, rally cars, buggies, motorbikes, race trucks, mudpluggers and Big Rigs. Joining the cast is the new monster truck class, likely to become a fan favorite (check out the video below).
It’s still a bit early, but here’s what we can confirm as far as features are concerned: 16 new multi-route tracks, 16 players can race head-to-head online, and a hugely requested feature hits MotorStorm: 4-player split-screen mode.
We’ll have more updates as MotorStorm 2 nears release, but in the meantime, take a look at the new environments and new monster truck in this just-released trailer.

It would be great if you guys would show some in-game footage instead of all CG.

Looks FANTASTIC! I enjoyed how easy the first game was to pick up, truly the best there is in the arcade genre. I will be looking forward to this release, but I have to ask…truly a Fall release? If so that is GREAT news!

Last time I checked, most games debut with a CG trailer. So get used to CG.

I was really glad to see that it offered split-screen this time around when I saw the press release this morning. That was the one issue I had with the original. (And I admit I may have been a little harsh about it in my review… But still, “next-gen” shouldn’t be taking steps backwards!)
That being said, I have decided (along with Alex) that I get credit for the change. I expect my name in the credits =P

Still enjoying Motorstorm 1. This teaser looks great. Loving the feel of it and all the lush foliage.
The collapsing tower was cool and got me thinking about destructiveness in general. When you’re racing away, you’re long gone by the time the carnage you caused behind you happens. Solution: picture-in-picture! I can imagine all the ‘just driven into a tree cos I was watching someone crash into the mess I just made’ moments :)

Sick! I bought Motorstorm on launch week and I’ve been all over it since then.
Truly the best off-road/rally game out there, a true ps3 exclusive and very good one.
The teaser looks sick! The environment will play an even bigger role this time from what I see.
Just to hear “flowing rivers, swamps(I love swams!),” is exciting.
By the way Jeff, you said there would be Big Rigs, is that correct? From watching the vids it looked like Monster trucks would replace the Big Rigs.

@Mr. Rubenstein,
Will the monster trucks really be able to crush other vehicles like in the vehicle?
I would like to be able to drift continuously like I saw in CG videos in the first Motorstorm. Maybe you could add a drift car class.

Come on guys. I know that the PS3 can generate these graphics and better. I hope that they finally harness the Playstation 3’s real power in cell processing and graphics generation.

How about making custimizable controls for each class. I stopped using the sixaxis because the motorcycles turned to sharply for it. The joystick would return to going straight by just letting it go, but it was difficult to turn and then go straight again with the sixaxis.

Very good trailer. I loved the first one and LOVE that they put in my most important request for a sequel… 4 player splitscreen play. 16 tracks is a perfect number (1st needed a few more) and the 16 person online play is a good amount of people for a race. Really looking forward to this one.
Cant wait to crash and burn in lush jungles!

will we be able to downlaod this off the PLAYSTATION Store soon?

Seanscythe2 | March 13th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Nope because sony doesn’t seem to think we like to watch these videos on our HD tvs. Rather we want to watch them on our 19in pc screen in low res.

ChvyVele | March 13th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Split-screen is the best news I’ve heard so far, there’s so many times I’ve had a friend over and I’m like let’s play Motor Storm…. oh wait, we can’t. Keep up the good work!

can you say about damn time?! the only negative…ONLY… was the surprising lack of multiplayer offline. with these new additions and a new locale this should be huge.
sign me up!

Well, the little that i saw, was good in looks ingame. I believe there are some improvements so that it can stun this.
Surface deformation technology was used in Sega Rally Revo which makes the cars emboss tire marks which makes it look like surface displacement.
I think this will be better than the previous by far.

Mr. Rubenstein,
Why not make a 3D lobby like the one we see in the CG videos in Motorstorm? If you don’t want to make it in the game you can make it in Playstation Home. That way we will really feel like we are at a festival.

@ 7
Moterstorm is so much fun that I would rather have 16 tracks than not have it at all

LLAMACODE | March 16th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
I know its along way off but…
You know where an awesome setting for moterstorm 3 would be?
the rocky mountains in bc

Greatheart | March 19th, 2008 at 7:46 am
@ Rubenstein,
You guys need to fix the kicking of players who don’t have the map that the host picks. Noone chooses the new maps anymore because they don’t want their room to shrink to just four people. Maybe you can make an option to block players that don’t have certain maps from joining your room in the first place.

Amazing! Really though, custom music is a must. My parents nearly threw out the original because of ‘Big Red Rocket of Love’. At least I convinced them to let me keep the music off…
Also, will there be a splitscreen patch for MS1?

Boring!!!!!!! Hey Evolution, maybe you could think about letting us build vehicles or something. Even Super Off Road that was made in 1987 or something like that let you add better equipment for your cars.

jabber0014 | March 29th, 2008 at 5:07 am
It looks interesting.I like what I saw so far,But Like to see some more footage of the game.I hope its not like 1 where the tracks stay the same, but using different vehicles

I hear they are taking away the “in-the-car-view”! WHY!?!? Sony and Evo want a realistic game, out of car view is not realistic at all? Why take away something you already give the consumer! That’s a deal-breaker for me, I won’t buy it.
