Imagine the drudgery of working for Shinra Company. Day after day, you do the accounting or tech support or whatever it is that helps the malevolent, Midgar-based corporation suck the very life out of the planet. Of course, there *is* a very nice gym on the 64th floor …
OK, so unless you cut down rain forests for a living, Shinra’s probably not a dream employer. But it still would be cool to have a nice, shiny Shinra work ID badge. Like, in case you need to rescue a ginger-haired girl or a large, talking red dog from the upper reaches of the tower.
And that’s exactly what you’ll get if you’re one of the first 200 people in line for CRISIS CORE – FINAL FANTASY VII tomorrow night. Square Enix is holding a launch event for the much-anticipated PSP game from 6-9pm at the PlayStation Store @ Metreon (101 4th St, San Francisco, CA). The first 100 customers in line will receive a special t-shirt, and other prizes will be raffled off in themed packages (take a look at the pics, enshrouded in mystery). More details can be found here.
I’ll be on hand, as I really want one of those Shinra ID badges. But if you’re planning on heading up to the 70th floor to give President Shinra a piece of your mind (or gun arm), I regret to inform you that Sephiroth beat you to it.

I respect you Jeff. And for that I don’t blame you for posting those pics. What I don’t have respect for is the rain forest…
For that one guy asking the squeenix store is located at:

Hey Jeff, just a quick question and I’m not sure how weird this would sound, but would we have to buy the game at the Playstation Store of the Metreon to attend the event? I think I’d really prefer to buy it at BestBuy for the metallic case that supposedly comes with it and I was just wondering if I wouldn’t be allowed to attend the event if I had no plans of buying the game at the store there.
sim replied on March 25, 2008 at 12:30 pm
No need to buy the game. We just want you to come out and have a great time!

Jeff,
Off topic:
Is there anywhere that we can ask you questions and not have to go off-topic in the middle of something else? Maybe a Q&A feature somewhere on the blog where people can ask about what is on their mind, and get a public response (sort of like you do here) if you or others are allowed to divulge information on their particular interest? Perhaps you could set it up in a FAQ format so older questions are purged periodically and added to the FAQ doc to keep it tidy? For example, I really would like to see a topic about the PhyrEngine as an independent developer – I don’t own a 360, but I find myself writing XNA for a system I don’t own since you have not thrown us a bone on the independent dev side of things for the PS3.
On topic:
I already pre-ordered crisis core on amazon.com and can’t wait till it gets here.

I think all future PSP launch parties should be held within 1 block of my house. Not on the other side of the country.
Why doesn’t the PSP ever get things like Japan or Europe, or like the PS3. Did anyone ever think I want a metal box to come with my game!?! I wish the PSP games had special editions and what not :-( . Sorry just frustrates me that Europe and Japan got a bunch of decent stuff with the Game/Bundle and all we get is a plastic UMD holder (at GameStop) and a Metalic Sleeve (at BestBuy) to come with the game.

When the FF7 PS3 remake hits, Japan will enter the high def age in full force.
If I had 100,000,000,000 dollars, I’d pay for the remake of 6, myself.
Crisis Core seems to be getting good reviews, and it sold 77,777 overpriced PSPs in Japan, so… It must be doing something.

Dam, once again I fail. I can get down there via the Muni, but I highly doubt that I would be able to get there before the crowds :(
Hey Jeff, I know our earlier communications about GDC failed, but could you possibly hook me up with something from there?
My work kills :|
Hope you have fun there guys, I hear its gonna rock. :(

Hi Spike,
Try calling the store to get a gauge of how many people are already there: (415) 369-6040. Hopefully you can join us : )

Such is my fortune:
BIG MONEY, BIG PRIZES, I LOVE IT!
Unfortunatley, living in NYC, we are host to Nintendo World events, yet most all Playstation related events, are in California.
Woe is me ; ;
I hope all that are able to attend have a great time and win lots of goodies.
Move to the East Coast Square Enix >_<;

I just got my copy of Crisis Core from Gamestop and can’t wait to play it.
Sadly I live in the Midwest and can’t make the event, which sucks because I would love to be able to get a prize or two.

I’m really angry. I preordered this game, but our store only got 2 Shrina UMD cases when we had more than that preorder this game. It’s unjust, I tell you.

Any chance we will see another FFXI MMORPG like we had on the PS2 but this time free to play for as many hours as we like, and of course with killer UT3 style graphics, and last but not least take place in the Final Fantasy VII world? I would love to run around midgar with a sword on my back, as well as some cool Uzi style amako SMGs, and last but not least for my get around vehicle a nice motor bike ala Advent Children, with two dual mounted 7.62mm MGs on each side.
I think you can see where I’m going with this right?

Ahhh dam, I got there, and got the #172nd ticket. But I had to go because of work : (
I never even got in because the lines weren’t working either. I even went to the store itself to ask if I could just get one of the IDs and leave, but they said that I had to wait with everyone else.(I think that they thought I was lying to get in early :( )
I may have seen you though Jeff, were you the one who was asking questions and giving away free stuff? Or was that someone else?
Maybe next time, Sony should set it up to be earlier, and/or on the weekend, because I don’t work at my job at those times too much.
Dam, was really looking forward to it :|

Hmm, I was wearing a blue PS Controller/MLB-style shirt. Oh and really tall. A couple of readers actually introduced themselves, which was nice. It’s funny to have to ask for their username – that’s how I know all of you!

I got Crisis Core first thing this morning. I started playing it on ‘hard’. But it was way too hard, I really wasn’t enjoying it, I was too focused on not dying. Anyway, now I’m playing on ‘normal’ and it’s awesome. Great opening FMV.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!! I am on the Final Boss already & completed about 26% missions. I beat the final boss, but my PSP froze after I won battle :(.
I can’t wait to play it again!! Maybe I’ll do another time through on New Game+, afterwards I’ll switch to Hard.
THANK YOU SQUARE ENIX, NOW PUT A FFVII REMAKE ON MY PS3!!!!

Picked FFVII CC up today and this is really making me want to be able to down load FFVII off of the PSN so that I can put it on my PSP. I still have my PSone copy yet having FFVII on the PSP on the go when I get done playing CC would be great.

@Jeff
So how did the event go? Can we get some pics?
@sim
Thanks for the reply!
Jeff Rubenstein replied on March 26, 2008 at 9:58 am
Event really went well – people were excited about the game, but really respectful of each other, took their time looking through the concept art and figurines that were displayed. Quite a few people came over from Square Enix Japan to set things up *just right*, and they did a great job.
Pics upcoming on our flickr site today – I’m just sorting through them now.

i wish i could have gone, it seems like this event was big, something like metal gear solid 4 or GT 5 prologue would draw good lines, I hope an FF13 event like this would happen when it launch here in the states ^_^

jeff rubenstein et al –
many thanks for the awesome launch event yesterday in san francisco! it’s clear that some real effort was put into this and i’d say it paid off well. looking forward to more metreon events of this quality in the future!
i also happened to be one of the lucky winners of the lithograph, which is gorgeous. event staff snapped my picture when i received it — would it be possible to get a copy of the photo? thanks again for everything!

I was there at the Metreon release. Spike, I was there with you, I was 175 in line. It was awesome of Fabian to give you his UMD case. Dood, you should have stayed, forget work!! You’re still young, you’ll have other jobs after this one. And you should have at least sold your ticket. One guy who won a lithograph said he paid $40 for his ticket after someone bailed. I also happened to win one of the lithographs!! But I sold it. I know, I suck….
