DUALSHOCK 3

Rumble is back with the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for PLAYSTATION 3. These are shipping to store shelves as we speak, so be on the lookout for them next week. Now I know that the list of compatible games is the most important thing to you, so we’re including that at the bottom of this post. The titles with an asterisk in the list below will require a patch in order to activate the rumble feature. The patch will automatically download to your PS3 if your console is connected online. If you are not connected online, check our PlayStation Knowledge Center for more information.

We will be launching have launched a web page on the PlayStation website later this morning dedicated to informing you of what titles use force feedback. This list will be expanding as new titles become compatible, so be sure to be sure to check back. You can also keep an eye out for this icon:

DUALSHOCK 3 compatible

This will be located on all new software releases that are DUALSHOCK 3 compatible.

Just to give you a small refresher course, the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller includes pressure sensors that rumble with each action. SIXAXIS technology is also included, so you can still use motion control, and the controller features Bluetooth technology for wireless gameplay. You can pick it up at any of the major retailers and at a cost $54.99 MSRP.

  • @67 oh erm yeah err my bad.
Still reckon its copy paste thought i would have done ¬_¬

  • @tlpn99 = you’re doing something wrong, i charge my pads using my PC’s usb ports with no problems.

    where’d my other comment go?

  • OOOOOOOOO…. LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! :)

  • LET’S GET REAY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! :)

  • Who remembers that realistic feel of a beating heart from MGS Sons of Liberty? I hope it’s done once again in the upcoming title.

  • I have an japanese DualShock 3, and almost every game supports the rumble. It’s very cool and you must have it!

  • Any chance that the patch that enables rumble in Formula One: Championship Edition will also enable force feedback with the Logitech wheels (i.e. Driving Force Pro)?

  • Hey, will we get white and black controlers. Or just black? To go with the new white PS3’S?

  • Now that they are releasing the DS3, the next question on my mind is when is the 120GB PS3 and the new DS3 Controller going to come out in a bundle package.

  • already had the DS3 now since december when GT5:Prologue came out.

only problem i have with it so far is PS3 games seem to have a weak rumble compared to playing PSone and PS2 titles.

other than that ive been enjoying it and will most likely pick up another controller to make it 6 controllers and 2 PS3’s

  • I can’t wait for mine. It’s already preordered. I guess this will give me a reason to go back and finish some games I stopped playing and play through R&CF and Uncharted again.

  • Great to see these are heading west. Now, they need to come east again…

    *Glares at SCEE*

  • Well, since Kristin has replied twice (yes some of us do read through the comments before leaving a comment) that black will be our only option in stores here in the states, it’s time for me to finally import from playasia.com. I’d been holding off waiting to see if the US release had different colors so I could support domestic vendors. I want my DS3 a different color from my SIXAXIS so I can easily and quickly visually identify which one I grab.

Personally, I think I’ll go for the Satin Silver.

(BTW, I’m also holding off upgrading my PSP to a slim until/if the MonsterHunter version is released here in the states. Pass that along to other marketing managers.)

  • please also support CoD4 with rumble, this would be really important.

    thx

  • Luckily 4 me my sixaxis broke just b4 my warranty expired. Sony was nice enough to ship me an new unopened sixaxis which I then traded in at gamestop towards the dualshock 3!…with the additional $5 price difference of course.

  • @29 yeah and all the M$ crap box needs is hard where that wont melt upon use and there ready for launch too……oh wait they all ready launched as well.

  • y is black the only color availible, ur telling me that the U.S. had to waite this long for the same controller that Japan has had for months and we still only have one color? now thats [DELETED] i shouldhave just imported it , Sony stop [DELETED] up and give your consumers wat they want already.

  • anyone know when this is out in the uk

  • Any word on if the PS3 will get PSN cards soon? IMHO the controller is more important, but I and many others want those PSN cards!

  • call of duty 4 should get a patch too, that be crazy

  • Kristing, can I use this for psone and ps2 games?

  • Yes this works with PSone, and PS2 games that have rumble! So play on man play on! Like I have said before the Dual Shock 3 is the only controller you need. You don’t need to invest in crap third party Dual Shock 2.0 converting cables that won’t work with all contollers.

Just dump the Dual Shock 3, and the SIXAIXS you only need one controller now all!

  • so we waited this long for it while japan has had it for months and yet we still only get 1 color? well am i correct?

  • Well another history is gonna to be made for the PS3.Im kinda upset that Smackdown vs Raw 2008 is not on the list for the DS3???:(

  • TwoBlack4America

Awesome.I’m gonna buy it as soon as it comes out!

  • Why is there an asterisk after some of the games on the list?

  • Weee..

I’ll be buying at least 2 of these !!

  • I might have to trade 2 of my SIXAXIS controllers in for one DualShock 3, plus pay a bit extra :(

Off-topic, but when is PS2 emulation coming to the 40 GB models? Is it even possible to EVER play PS2 games on the 40 GB model? I heard from people that it’s missing some special hardware (besides the Emotion Engine)…I know the 80 GB doesn’t have the Emotion Engine but it can still play most PS2 titles, why can’t the 40 GB model?

  • I think I will order a white one also from overseas…

  • Can you guys have a talk with people at Infinity Ward to put rumble in Call of Duty 4?

  • to refer to the list posted above. I’ve read and seen that list on 3-4 site. I think what they are refering to is that quite a few of these devs mentioned updating the games thru PSN for DS3.
Plus if you looked at the list in the main post it is 90% first party, and i think those were the initial commitments to Sony. I am sure that this will spread VERY quick. Now i just need to force myself to get at least one, since i have 3 SIXAXIS!

  • Bender Rodriguez

Awesome a respone to the Ric Flair comment! : ) Lakaihigh to me both things are gimmicky and I really don’t need either as I stated, but Rumble seems to be loved for some reason.

  • When is the dual shock 3 coming to Europe?

  • i want to know will there be a trade in program?I dont think it fair for me to have to buy another controler just because i brought my ps3 at lauch. If there is a trade in program can you explain how its going to work and when.

  • Hooray for rumble!

  • @ Sony:

Are you sure Disney makes Turok? I thought Touchstone did.

  • Kristin,

Im guessing this does not apply to Europe? Although I hope it does.

If not, when should Europe expect the DS3 to arrive on shelves?

    FrancisH

  • glad the rumble is back :)

  • Are we going to be getting official PC drivers any time soon?

  • $54.99 MSRP is quite steep. Why are these controllers so expensive? I want two of them…but I can only afford one :(

  • Drool. Thankfully this has been a great money week. Got income tax back. Double what I expected. Got one of these on pre-order but what about Grand Theft Auto IV? Got the limited edit on pre-order also. Please say there’s support for that game! Please…

  • Hey Kristin. Thanks for the info. I was wondering if GT5 would be able to provide force feedback on the accessory steering wheels now, since there is rumble??

  • Oh yeah before I go back to Warhawk. Is the SIXAXIS discontinued? I read it on Engadget today.
v1.3 ROCKS! can’t wait to feel what the bio regeneration field is like? finally. this is such great news. finally I’ll know when someone is shooting me in the back. or wen I hit someone in a jeep.LOL this is the best. You folks are sure doing a grat job keeping us occupied. eh kristen. ( ask Jeff R bout that one). lOL see you in the games……

  • Any Word On Call Of Duty 4 geting Rumble?

Because i know its on the 360!

and Id enjoy it Nicely on PS3 Could you get the company explain why were not geting it or is that coming soon!

    Thanks,

  • @ 136 – Disney owns Touchstone

  • Im glad they brought the rumble back, even though Sony said it was “impossible” to include the sixaxis & rumble in one & they also said that the rumble is sooooooo “LAST GEN”.It sucks that this wasn’t included since the launch. All PS3 users including me (that missses the rumble feature very much) who already have the early sixaxis controllers & many of us have more than one, what are we to do now with our old controllers when want the new DUALSHOCK 3 controllers.I feel robbed in a way.Now these new controllers are $55 a piece,it going to be tough paying $100 for 2 now just so i can experience rumble again.

  • I got mine last week and it is pretty sweet, but i was disappointed that COD4 wasn’t working with it. Do you know when an update for rumble will be made available?

  • Yay! But…I have 4 SIXAXIS controllers already…What do I do Playstation.com??

  • Are they built any better than the current controller. My analog sticks are sticking and they are just over a year old. My PS2 controllers still work just fine so I doubt I am working them too hard.

  • @ 150: I ordered the DS3 from yesasia, and I have the sticking problem. most noticably its on the direction pad but also happens sometimes on the analogue sticks.
