Update on the PLAYSTATION Store
+ Posted by Grace Chen // Senior Manager, PLAYSTATION Store
Hi everyone. Just a reminder that there’s no PLAYSTATION Store update today, but the Store remains open for business. As announced last week, Warhawk is still on promotion for $29.99 (regular price $39.99). We’re working hard on getting the revamped Store up and running. Keep an eye out for a walk-through video next week. In the meantime, take a peek at a few screens from the new interface.
Have a great weekend.

I have some Important Questions:
1.Can we Still use (R1) and (L1) to go back and forth from past page viewed and so forth?
2.Also not sure if you can answer it just yet but can we play music on the HDD also on the store if possible?
3.Can we Still View and Reply to All of our Messages from our friends on the PSN?
Thanks to any of the Questions that and if you can answer!

I hope you guys add the option of “Auto Install” after the download is done, that way we don’t have to deal with the installation after we finish downloading.
Also, I hope that ones we pick up what we want to add in the “buying list” we can have 2 options for: Go to previews screen and Go to Main Page to continue browsing.
Because sometimes is annoying to have to go through all the tapping just to get in the same section again.

Looking good!!!!
…but really, all that matters is the new content for sale.

If nothing ells the Rock Band content that is provided to you should still be posted.
It’s frustrating enough that you wait till Thursday when it could be posted on Tues.
We’ve seen you are capable of posting stuff on other days, will this be fixed in the new Store?

This is a HUGE improvement from the previous store.
The PS3 experience is moving pretty fast now, more and more news coming.
I hope this means Home is just around the corner…. I really, really CANT wait to start collecting trophies.

Only problem is that on the second screenshot, the squares look empty, reminds me of the Wii Channels Slots

Hi Grace Chen. I really like the improvement of the store sofar. One thing that i notices are the corners of some of the boxes: See here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2385628831/sizes/o/in/photostream/
If you look at the GT:P box the corners are not smooth and transparent to the background. Im sure you can resave these somehow and make it look better.

How many Sony employees does it take to change a lightbulb?
Just one, but he sits in the dark for two weeks before changing it.
Seriously, this is a really awkward deployment of a new system.

I’m assuming that we will get something quite worthy of the 2 weeks of waiting for new downloadable content when the revamped store is up. I think that’d be nice like 10 A+ quality PS1 games, PSP games, etc etc. I mean Japan has MGS for PS3 or PSP…I would love to play the original on the go….yanno just a little hint that 2 weeks without content…its doable…but not without something for us being patient ;-P

Hi Grace Chen
I’ve got a question for you will the Europe PS Store have have the same icons as the USA PS and if not why.
There icons seem more detailed than the UK PS Store and i don’t see the reason why you make the icons look better on one store and bland on the other. It should be the same that is something u need to change.
And also will the stores updates have the same amount for each store because the UK store is still lacking things that the US store has this is something that needs to be sorted out because it seems like sony cares more about the US and Japanese and Hong Kong stores than the Europe stores this is something you need to change unless you want to start loseing customers.

Will we be able to play our music while browsing the store??

RainerLagStyle | April 4th, 2008 at 5:35 am
Is the new Store going to allow you guys to archive everything ever released on the PSN? I noticed you guys deleted practically all videos past page 3 or so (My PS3’s BD drive went out so I had to have it sent in, so of course my new one was blank and I tried to find my old videos and content, only to realize most of it was deleted off the PSN).
Also, someone already asked about region-locking being done away with…it’d be nice. Just maybe have sections for each continent?
Oh, and might want to add, let’s maybe quit trying to pretty things up and actually get content onto the service. I mean, I have all this money but no games worth purchasing (before anyone flames, yea, I’ve bought almost all the games on the PSN, excluding some classics).
At least I don’t have to *yawn* at another piss update. Seems we get 1 good update for every 4, so the next one is sure to be a doozy

Ms. Chen,
Will the PLAYSTATION Store look different when using remote play from PSP? Currently it only shows 3 items per page (same as SD TV?). Just curious if the remote play store will show the re-modeled SD version?

Hi, Grace,
Thanks for the pics of the new store and thanks for keeping us updated on the progress. I’m looking forward to using the it once it up and running. We know you guys at Sony are working very hard to get things up and running within the next week. It will be worth the wait.
Question: Will the video and music sections of the
store launch with it when the store is re-launched next week? If not, when can we expect to see them in the store?

If the European ps store will be a bit different than the us one ? Like icons, categories…

Number 59 has a good point- just filler like this nets good results. You started out by reminding us that there would be no update but the response was still quite favorable. Might want to take that to heart.
And: how pretty!

I’m excited about this change and I think it looks great. My only concern is that it’ll show the complete store on my 1080i HDTV. Currently the webpage one, when I have my PS3 set at 1080i cuts off the top of the store. I cannot see anything up there! I can set it to 480p and it looks okay, but it’s so huge.
I’m hoping this addresses that issue.
I also hope the next update addresses the streaming media stuttering issues that was introduced in firmware 2.2. Thanks!

The new store will be nice, would be nice to discuss it but I can’t use the forums at all. Thanks Sony, it’s been a blast. But because of everything that has happened (psn hacked, banned from forums, posts being edited, the general flaming of everything I say) it’s time for me to sell my PS3 and my psp’s and even my w81i phone. You obviously don’t want my money or me around anymore. BYE
forever you’ve made me very very very sad………..

Is there any chance that you will be integrating a gift-giving feature??
It would be nice to be able to buy map packs or games for friends in our clans or on our buddy lists, in a secure manner without releasing our personal or financial information… right now there is simply no way of doing this. It seems that this would be profitable for the store and would increase sales - so in the long run it seems worthwhile to incorporate some form of gift giving feature into the store.

The New LOOK of the Store LOOKS FREAKIN AMAZING.

wiitendotriple | April 4th, 2008 at 8:28 am
There’d better be a way to sort the stuff on the download list. It drives me freaking NUTS going through that list to find stuff I paid for just because I got bored and downloaded the lame demos that came a few weeks in a row. At least the ability to separate actual downloadable games from demos and trailers would be enough.

The PS store better not have region lock… being 1/2 japanese 1/2 american, born raised in japan, now living in US. I would like to play both regions games, sick and tired to needing to buy 2 of the same damn system to play games from their own regions…

Manganeez | April 4th, 2008 at 9:29 am
This is a vast improvement, though not as progressive as I’d hoped. I’d like to have seen something more like the SingStore. On the other hand, perhaps these static screenshots just aren’t doing it justice.
One concern I do have, though, is that even though widescreen pics are being shown here, the content appears to be formatted for an SD aspect ratio. Is that correct, or are these shots note-quite final? I hope you’re not going to waste so much screen real estate for those of us with HDTVs.

Nice Design, though it lacks of two things IMO:
- 16:9 image, but why don’t make use of all the space? Left and Right Borders on the image are empty :/
- I miss the list of the last added items (of ALL categories and sorted by date), currently visible (if you view it in HD) in many PS-Stores on Startup.

The games already aren’t region locked and never were. The stores are region-specific, based on the marketing data for that region. Marketing the same way to Americans as to the Japanese would be a very poor decision indeed.
You can already do like many of us have done, if you’re interested in content for the other regions, and create an account based in that region to log into the store with.
Personally, I think Sony should have a store region button right at the top of the store to allow region selection without this hack, but they may not be able to due to licensing constraints.
PS, those of you who don’t understand how much legal work goes into licensing content for a specific region need to stop complaining about the fact that stuff gets released in one place when its ready and not in another.

Great Revamp, but again im asking you guys, when Sony will open PSN for Brazilians users? Im say that because i want to BUY a lot in the PSN and I CANT!!!
There a lot of content that i imagine that many people want to buy, and even with international card to buy in the store is a PAIN IN THE ASS!! only the people how have american express!!
im really don´t care about the launch in Brazil, i think is a dumb action for Sony not to launch here, but its about ONLINE BUY!!!!! in amazon.com i can buy… ebay, play asia, so why that restriction exists?
PLASE SAY SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
thanks

in this update could you guys please include the time change for Venezuela? It’s only a minor issue, though still annoying, and it should be easy to fix.
it would be nice if you could sneak it into this update, since it’s a firmware update instead of having to wait another few months till 2.4
I’ve already mentioned this a few times in past posts, but haven’t gotten a response, so any feedback is welcome.
on a side note I think it would be useful if there was an optional notification system that sent you a message (that went to your inbox and appeared as a message on the screen), when the Store or firmware was updated. this would be especially useful, if and when, the Store starts to update on a daily or nearly daily basis.

hey thatsmartguywiththefro @ 149 you said “it would be nice if you could sneak it into this update, since it’s a firmware update instead of having to wait another few months till 2.4″ I have read alot about this update from everyone on the the blog and forums but i cant seem to find out were it was announced or even when i google it, nothing. You can you please tell me were you heard of this big summer update 2.4? Was it from someone who worked at sony? Was it an announcement you heard from sony? Was it from a guy on here who just assumes it would be nice to believe sony is gonna give us the updates we want and that theyll be here by summer and be named fw 2.40?
