echochrome arrives tomorrow!

Posted by Kumi Yuasa // Associate Producer, echochrome

Hello PlayStation.blog readers. It’s Kumi! First, I wanted to thank everyone for reading my last post announcing the free demo for echochrome.

So as promised, I am back to tell you just when you can get your hands of the full version. echochrome will be available for you to download this THURSDAY, MAY 1 on the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and via the PC Store for the PSP. Both versions will be available for $9.99, so make sure you have funds in your wallet! There are 56 unique levels on the PS3 version, as well as 56 completely different levels on the PSP version (112 levels overall), so no matter if you are sitting at home or on the go, there are plenty of puzzles for you to wrap your brain around.

If you did not see my last post and are wondering “What is echochrome?” It’s a fun and addictive puzzle game with really elegant and simple graphics. The concept is inspired by the famous MC Escher artwork, which explores infinity, architecture and impossible constructions. In echochrome, you control the camera and perspective on an infinite canvas, guiding a mannequin figure by carefully tilting and turning the level to create a continual pathway, allowing your character to walk safely through the design. Also, there is a Canvas mode, where you will be able to create your own puzzles from scratch and share them with your friends, or even the world! You can still download the demo for free and sharpen your skills before taking on the full version when it is released on Thursday.

Stay tuned to the Playstation blog, because later this week, I will give you some tips on creating your own mind-bending levels to play and share with friends, as well as details on getting the top user-created levels each week for free (on the PS3 version). It blew 1UP’s mind … now it’s your turn.

that we werent getting add on content again at the same time as them or maybe not even getting it. you have to think about that. Please get add on for the good games concentrate on them more instead of echochrome like come on. no offence but you gotta work on some stuff and get it together guys , oh yeah nice job on updates though and keep them up. peace

Haha I didn’t see that “HOORAY!!” by “Goodfella2487″. I think this is so much more than simple game. I realize that xbox has updates before us (which annoys me to no end, as well), but this is really one of the great things about the PlayStation. Games like this take logic, much like many of the modes in Call of Duty 4. For some people, this is interesting (indeed, for myself) and for others it isn’t. Just realize, “sonycomeon”, that this is truly a different experience from many other games and there are many people out there (though evidently not yourself) who are quite intrigued by them.

54

Money1  |  April 30th, 2008 at 4:45 pm

55

Goodfella2487  |  April 30th, 2008 at 4:57 pm

Sonycomeon needs a ban. Now.

56

DNAgent  |  April 30th, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Will the PSP version also have a disk that you can buy?

57

kspraydad  |  April 30th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

@ Goodfella2487…

I need the run on sentences, poor punctuation and incoherent thoughts to make myself feel better about having an education.

58

kspraydad  |  April 30th, 2008 at 6:05 pm

BTW … great concept and execution of the game fellas. I’ll be using my newly powerful CDN dollar to purchase this tomorrow.

Jersey-Gamer  |  April 30th, 2008 at 6:32 pm

This is a very creative concept–simple to comprehend, but it looks like it could get challenging later on. I enjoyed the demos, and intend to get the full game for both systems.

Spaceghost4284  |  April 30th, 2008 at 7:02 pm

holy crap moley this is perhaps the best announcement i’ve heard on this blog in quite some time. i was predicting late may but this is truly a surprise!

61

Californian  |  April 30th, 2008 at 7:06 pm

@kspraydad:
“sonycomeon” is one of the posters (last post on first page as well as another). Otherwise, your comment is hillarious.

62

Cplhicks  |  April 30th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

Only 9.99? Seriously? Nice! Can’t wait.
One question, if you can answer– is the PSP download version the same as the Japanese UMD version for PSP, or do they have different levels?

63

kspraydad  |  April 30th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

@60…

Yes, I was responding to Goodfella calling out sonycomeon.

I think I’ll make a level for echochrome that spells out COMEON.

:)

awesome game guys! can’t wait till tomorrow its my day off too!!!

@sonycomeon – yeah your post is meaningless here. try to keep it related to the topic. thanks.

@buri0819 – if you’re bored then try to doing something constructive, read a book. there are people, myself included, that have been looking forward to this title for some time now. don’t get me wrong i’m waiting for all those things too but your post comes of sounding very selfish.

peace,
Lh

@66

You DO know that you are posting in the blog thread about echochrome … which will be read and responded to by the echochrome AP, don’t you?

Save your request for Dille or Tretton.

71

J3SS  |  April 30th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

I can dig this. I love some puzzle games. Especially original titles like this.

72

wiitendotriple  |  April 30th, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Are we going to see an expansion pack down the road with the PSN PSP levels for PS3 (and vice versa)? Any chance of sharing user-created levels between the PS3 and PSP versions?

73

Youlikeyams  |  April 30th, 2008 at 11:36 pm

So when’s it out for Europe?
Gotta love how all the blog posters ignore European posters as if they’re not meant to be here – ThreeSpeech is not a PlayStation blog, it’s terrible.

This announcement makes me feel so much better since I’m STILL waiting for my copy of GTA IV (blasted amazon). And since I loved the demo of this game so much I’m sincerely hoping you guys have more puzzle games in the works. My brain craves puzzles like you wouldn’t believe.

I’m quite excited for this. I downloaded the Japanese demo as soon as it was available and played it through a few times with friends just itching for a complete version.

I even blogged about it (http://techblog.mikebabcock.ca/2008/05/echochrome.html if you’re interested) and I hope everyone tries their hand at making new levels and sharing them online.

Please please please consider having a semi-open online review system for new levels so we can see what others have uploaded right away and vote on our favourites? I’d love to be able to log in through the game interface, see the newly uploaded maps, download and try them then rate them on how hard I think they are and how good I thought they were.

Best of luck!

88

Jeigh  |  May 1st, 2008 at 1:40 pm

@ skaterricky

Is there any sense left in your tiny spamming head? Is there? Is there? Is there?

If you could play the PS3 version on your PSP, you wouldn’t buy the PSP version would you? Would you? Would you? Would you?

They need money to operate their business, don’t they? Don’t they? Don’t they?

Stop it! Etc., etc.

89

Jeigh  |  May 1st, 2008 at 1:44 pm

I realize that was rather harsh to an extreme, but you (skaterricky) were being annoying to an extreme. Never mind that the PSP has no second analog stick and I don’t see why they would reconfigure it so you could take the cheap way out.

90

Snap  |  May 1st, 2008 at 1:56 pm

@Jeigh

How is asking for the PS3 version to support Remote Play being cheap? Since PixelJunk Monsters supports it and (yet) doesn’t offer a PSP version, I’m cheap because I play PJ Monsters via remote play while sitting in bed on my PSP rather than my couch… that makes me cheap?

WTF kind of silly logic is that?! I own a PS3 and a PSP. I own hundreds of games between the PS3, PS2, PSOne, and PSP libraries yet I’m cheap because I want to buy echochrome once?

Piss off ant.

91

MidgetguyII  |  May 1st, 2008 at 7:53 pm

I’ve downloaded the demo, and I was pleased! It was better than I thought it would be! (And I thought it would be cool!)

I’m hoping theres an echochrome PS3 them released soon too!

: )

RADRAD1985  |  May 1st, 2008 at 9:07 pm

This is a truly wonderful game. It doesn’t look pretty, but it’s elegant and ingenious.

I’ve seen a couple of Japanese user-made levels that stumped me. Maybe we Americans can even the score, eh? XD

mercury187  |  May 1st, 2008 at 10:16 pm

so let me get this straight, you can only share custom created levels via WIFI/Adhoc????? You cant upload them on here or download other peoples levels to like a USB thumb drive and import them into the ps3????Or even go online with the ps 3 and download them that way?? thats pretty weak if thats the case….

95

Mekuro Gear Solid  |  May 2nd, 2008 at 12:37 pm

@Jeih w/e unworthy person to be mentioned correctly dude if you know echo chrome youd know that the psp version is a different entity being cheap wtf r u talkin about how could u not get em both at 10 bux u must never leave ur dungeon u dungeon keeper! bloody hell go on a plane (pspless) n c y ud fly the plane into a building just to rally it on psp instead of listenin too anoying children shout n wine n cry omg… calm musik of echo chrome… n ill get to the point echo chrome on psp has different levels different modes more suited to the portable arena foo the only one who was cheap was god savin a couple bucks on the head on your shoulders…(im a jack ass sorry if i offend)

96

Mekuro Gear Solid  |  May 2nd, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Good show. I’m pretty impressed with the game engine and love the simplicity of the graphics. I may have been of the first few to have bought the full version and I am not disapointed. M.C. Escher would be proud…Thanx.

I am really excited to have Echochrome on my PSP. However, when I download the full version and Install it, it’s nowhere to be found. I’ve done this twice, Any ideas what might be happening?
