I just wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that a PS3 firmware update (v2.35) will be released shortly. This is a relatively minor update to improve stability of some PS3 titles.

  • I am pretty certain that when xmb is ready we will hear about it.

Its a feature that wont be sneaked into some random firmware update that we are told about a few hours before its live.

Be patient the longer they take on it hopefully the less buggy it will be on release.

As a psp user Im pretty used to lots and lots of updates and really don’t mind them i like the fact that sony updates there stuff pretty regular.
Its not like it takes for ever to update and there is certainly nothing that could be classed as a useless update as its going to help someone’s experiance.

  • the only real update for ps3 is when you guys stop making the online interations suck so hard and took some more working good idea. What’s the problem to read/send a message to your friends while they´re playing? What’s the major issue for us cannot invite a friend on our game regardless what he’s doing?

I rather pay to play on live than use this friendless system of psn (at least more friendly than wii)

  • i think an option should be added into the XMB (either in the options menu or thru the PS button) somewhere to allow u 2 change the controller assignment manually, without having to load up a game in order to use the function thru the PS button…

i’ve got a gioteck BD remote that’s USB powered and connected continuously, naturally it becomes the default controller 1 each time my PS3 gets switched on; annoying wen u have 2 change the assignment of the dualshock 3 each time i switch on my machine…

i think adding in this option would come in handy

    :P

  • common tell us ,what this firmware does !?:D
the suspense is killing me ;)

  • Oh i get it now.
    Is for hotshot golf ?

  • On the PSN Store the photos are still loading slow???
Will that be fixed? Or is that it. Would be Perfect if it loaded instantly like in your video you showed a few weeks back.
+The internet browser needs to be better to.
Apart from that, keep up the good work ;)

everyone go to this link for your chance to win many cool prizes like ps3s and ps3 games here is the link try it it works! http://www.prizerebel.com/index.php?r=243446

  • Could you add a “shuffle songs” in the next firmware update, like it plays random songs in all your music without doing a playlist.
    Thanks

  • we need ingame xmb, 100 player friendlist and a video chat that still exists while playing games.

come on dev team this cant be sooo hard… xbl also manages it.

  • Should have held onto this one and given us one nice large Firmware update with In Game XMB, integrated friends list across games, and a larger friends list.

Toss in a little In Game Music with the In Game XMB and we are ourselves a Firmware update to be proud of!

  • Well It’s good too see Sony likes to fix issues with PS3 games that are on their end, and not the game developers end. IE something Nintendo Never dose, and something Sega never did. There were quite a few DreamCast, and Sega Satern games that would not work right on the systems they were made for on release day, and they had to do this kind of stuff the hardway.

FYI: They had to recall, and redistrubute the fixed versions of the game, and refund all those effected by it.

At least this way Sony saves cash, and can take care of any problems on their end, while developers take care of problems on their end as well. It means we have a higher chance of good games that work out of the box.

IMHO I wish PC users had the same deal we PS3 owners have. IE Hardware fixes with patches, and software fixes with game patches. But sence any PC can have any kind of hardware in it thats kinda moot ATM.

  • @106 hostes
…a video chat that still exists while playing games.
come on dev team this cant be sooo hard… xbl also manages it.

Is damn hard to do the videochat while in game!! i dont think that that is a feature with priority.

    imagine this conversation:
SONY:well devs, from now on the PS3 SDK will requiere a 60 MB footprint to allow ingame videochat.
Devs: we want our MB back !!

I think that the current footprint is in 48MB

    cheers

  • Will this fix the audio problems like in condemmed 2?

  • I for one appreciate the update, I like having my fixes as soon as possible, not one or two times a year as with seasonal updates.

  • StalkingSilence

    @43 (me),
Wanted to let you know I got this resolved. It correctly re-installed on the 3rd boot. Sometimes I think these guys are complaining about firmware bricking their systems, but I was legitimately worried this time. It’s all good now, though!

  • For those whiners about GTAIV that are too dumb to read the post here is where he said to go to get your poblem fixed with the game, and he clearly said they have a solution for the problem that works:

    http://playstation.custhelp.com/

  • Man, for a moment I thought I stumbled into an XBox blog. I’ve never seen so many little snivelling whiners in one blog in my life.

  • @ sneedo:

    Aw..

You should shut up because you don’t seam to understand that this is a blog where you share your thoughts about the posts.

I did. I want updates at like spring and fall or summer and winter.

I want more stuff in PSS. Remove the delays, even if you have to remove multi-language support.

English, French and German will do the trick!

Release In-Game XMB. Cmon.. Shut off a game to answer to a message? Silly…

Home. No more delays Kaz! We want it, We like it and we don’t really care if you do. And as you say, Home will expand over time!

Music & Video store. Cmon, everybody wants it!

And remember to give EU that content to!…

  • I am still waiting for a flash player update, it’s getting harder and harder to use the internet feature and i am also tired of running out of memory on pages. Is thier a way to use memory cards in the front slots like you can on vista?

  • RandomEarthling

I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a minor update as it is a major waste of time. I have to watch as the PS3 slowly downloads the patch, slowly installs the patch and then restarts. I consider myself lucky that I am not affected by these minor issues…or am I affected and don’t know about it? When you don’t tell us what you’ve fixed, I see no benefit in the update and just curse the PS3’s upgrade process. PLEASE, NO MORE MINOR UPDATES!

On a positive note, Echochrome and Pixeljunk Monsters Encore rock!

  • 2 60 gb ps3 here, never had a problem at all with gta4, also, ps3 is the BESTTTTTTTTT

  • Hi, Eric,

Just a simple suggestion: You guys should release new icons for our accounts on Thursdays
when the store is updated. Also, how about allowing us to download new icons from the store, also?

  • Oh, tired of asking it everywhere, even when I’m off topic… what about an european release of the MGS4 Limited Edition? Why anyone gave an answer to me? Something to hide?

  • I’m not sure if anyone came across this problem while updating. Seems like my Dualshock 3 controller could not connect to the Playstation 3 after downloading the update and before installation began (When you have to press the PS button). Lucky I still have a Sixaxis controller which did connect. I don’t know if this is a know issue. I feel for those that have upgraded completely to the Dualshock 3s…

  • So I’m guessing the 2.4 update next month was BS…

  • @125
    Raiden7.0

Cheer up, MGS4 LE will come to europe.
    Cheers

  • You all are going to release a Firm Ware now that my PS3 is broke. That is wrong.

  • @16

There is no way sony would do that, have you not read how crazy sony is about DRM. there is no way they would allow rip dvds to play on the ps3 to promote piracy.
even though people will always find a way ~.^

  • @Apaz

Not at all. A 2.17 and 2.20 both came out in March.

  • anyway….. since there isnt an appropiate section to suggest, i will say it here,
now more than ever, we need ps1 games on the psn to save the psp, there is almost nothing coming out for it until dec…
if sony doesnt plan ahead… its done

  • Some things I’d like fixed on my PS3:

1> Better PS2 emulation. I have a 80GB PS3, why is the emulation so bad? I thought this version had PS2 hardware emulation assistance.

2> Better video compatibility. I’m sick and tired of getting “invalid data format” for videos using codecs the PS3 is supposed to support. What’s that magic formula to get it to play these videos? I have a common media server with all of my DVD’s and my videos dumped from video tape on my network. My Xbox360 can play them, why can’t my PS3?

3> How about a better media title viewer? I’ve got this giant 1080p screen and I have to vertically scroll through hundreds of titles to get to what I want. How about pages of icons (use the screen space!) and scroll page by page, and have a quick search ability.

4> A web browser that isn’t so retarded. Geez, couldn’t you have worked out a deal with Mozilla or Opera for a more standards compliant engine? Video games and pizza go hand in hand. I dare you to be able to order “Pizza Hut” on this useless trash of a browser!

5> Improve the “themes” loader. Far too frequently my PS3 forgets its theme and loads the default. Yet, the theme browser shows the theme I want is “loaded”… nope.

6> Hey, how about a simple “shuffle play” for music? Is that too much to ask? Does everyone have to sit down for hours on end assembling a “playlist”? Playlists are for iPods not my home media!

  • Have you ever noticed how sony will put a new feature in the psp fw if the hackers did? I think sony will only hurry if they see the hackers doing it to get people onto cfw. Sony gets worried and then does what people want. With the ps3 it’s different. I wonder why? Because there’s no cfw choice? I bet that’s why.

Maybe i’m just in a bad mood today? But i’m really starting to regret the ps3 purchase. All I do is update and update and wait and wait. :(

  • STABILITY of PS3 game’s? Mine run fine LOL!!!

  • WHERE IS THE SUBTITLE SUPPORT????

OMG!!!! IS THIS THAT DIFFICULT TO IMPLEMENT THE SUPPORT TO SEPARATE SUBTITLE FILES SUCH AS .SRT????????????????

IT´S JUST A PITY THAT SOMETHING SO SIMPLE HAS TO BE ASKED SO MANY TIMES!!

Sometimes i really think about putting my PS3 in a box and start playing something else…

  • Sweet….

  • @134

I don’t know about your ps3 but mine has a shuffle music feature. Just press triangle on the music screen and the menu pops up. And to everyone that cries and demands things from Sony, If I were in charge I would just say look at all these ungreatful bastards with nothing better to do than complain. Did you really buy it just to browse the internet??? WOW, how lame. If you don’t like the browser then go browse the internet on the other box!! Oh wait sorry it can’t do it at all.Buncha D.A.s

  • It’s obvious Sony needs to increase the manpower behind Firmware updates. This stuff takes too long and we hardly ever get what we want.

#8 mywhitenoise has some good updates that should be easy to implement.

Lets open up the PS3 and let some Independent devs take a crack at Firmware I bet we see some seriously good things!

I am starting to believe the PS3 was created with gaming as an afterthought.
Everything is so clunky and it’s now one and a half years old.

I am seriously depressed with the state of the PlayStation brand.

  • In-Game XMB please…..

  • I CALLED SONY ABOUT AN HOUR AGO AND THEY COULDNT GIVE ME A STRIGHT ANSWER ON THE NEW UPDATE SONY HAS ALWAYS PUT THE UPDATE ON THE WEBSITE AND NOTHING IS THERE SO IM GUESSING IT WAS GETTING HACKED INTO AND THEY HAD TO UPDATE THE SYSTEM AND THEY JUST DONT WANT TO TELL PEOPLE ANY INFO ON IT CAUSE I HAVENT SEEN NOTHING CHANGE ON MY PS3 YET

  • We, as customers, have the right to ask for improvements on the PS3. I bought it waiting for a really big product, but, to be really honest, until now, i couldn´t see anything that really surprised me.

These constant firmware updates with no major improvements make me really disappointed with my PS3.

  • @ SONY is it possible that you could design a diagnostic program for the PS3 for us ??? it would save time on figuring out whats wrong with the systems by giving us a Software or Hardware error code i ask because i believe my BD drive has been almost fried (i have no idea why beacause ive made NO modifications to my PS3 and i pretty much baby it lol i clean it daily)i have also followed all guidelines as far as troubleshooting. PLEASE give me your thoughts on this i really think it would be a good idea and it would possibly save everyone money in the long run

  • Funny how Eric Lempel doesn’t read the blog and can’t even correct his own post Al de Leon has to do it.

Thank you Al de Leon for following up with US PlayStation CUSTOMERS.

Eric Lempel I am officially declaring you a TOOL!

  • Update firmware in the future with an homenetwork ability, so that i can see my netwerkdrives/pc’s including the PS3 in one networksurrounding. So that i can easy copy files within my own network or playing directly files (movies or mp3) from pc to PS3 or viceverse. So without the neccesity of installing extra software for this or without the use for the mediaplayer.
Like my external networkdrive with NAS software.

  • These updates are huge, even for a full fledged update, please make throw as an incremental update as well, so it takes alot quicker to download from 2.30 to 2.35.

  • and another idea could we have a chatroom type thing on the PS3 where all of the Ps3 users can get on and discuss issues and fixes and whatnot i know that Home will address this but Home is prolly a long way off(i dont mind anymore its gonna be badass when it does come out though :D)any comments would be appreciated (even by other users) maybe we could have a list on the PS3 room that you can read with all our ideas on it too it would make it easier for you to read through them and implement the ideas that are good.these are just some thoughts of mine BTW congrats on the sales surge due to GTA 4 its about time we really start catching up to those Xbox losers :D Peace

  • Any chance that we’ll ever be able to sort our games by name instead of just how recently we played or downloaded them and such? I know it’s a very minor gripe and all, but I’d really like that better than the current setup. Greater stability with streaming audio/video would be good too… I can’t tell you how many times it dumps me out of the player saying there was a media server error.

  • This definitely didn’t do anything for the offline GTAIV freeze. And, the ‘possible solution’ to the GTA problem is sending in my perfectly functional PS3 for a replacement refurbished unit. Thanks but no thanks, looks like its time to invest in a 360 finally.

  • I don’t know if it was because I suggested using the PSP as a remote for playing music on the TV/surround system, but thanks for that! I guess the next step would be to be able to run remote play in the background. You see sometimes I like to play games in the bed at night, but my wife and son are asleep in the same room. How about making the PSP an audio output source, sort of like make BT headphones for chat audio output. That way, I can plug some headphones into my PSP and play everything on my TV. Great idea, huh?

  • Thanks for the update, much appreciated.
