  • if the manager of the store really did write this post, i hope she is reading these replies or someone tells her to read them.

if she cant get something done about the flow of content, she needs to take some initiative and bring the demands of the consumers to upper management or someone that actually has some power.

  • lol @ Sony. If the PlayStation Store was a brick and mortar establishment, it would be akin to walking into a store where over half the shelves are empty. They are really nice looking shelves, though.

I may be missing something, but is there anything featured in this update that is exclusive to the PlayStation brand? Maybe a weekly update to the Store is asking too much, since there doesn’t seem to be enough content to support that schedule.

  • IN-GAME XBM CONFIRMED for 2.40!!!!!!!!!

Jim posted: “It’s the real deal… Coming in 2.40. More features than expected.
    All I can say.”

    Source: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=303118

We’ve finally received word that the long awaited, and much rumored, PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.40 is indeed the real deal and is said to be coming relatively soon. Many of the most requested features, such as a universal friends list and in-game messaging will be included, in addition to a few rather nice surprises (*cough*soundtracks*cough*). We definitely can’t divulge all of the details, but trust us, it’s coming.

We aren’t yet 100% sure of the actual release date, but all signs point to sometime in June. We’re guesing that Sony will probably detail 2.40 in the coming weeks.

    W000000TTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):)

  • People you have to understand ….

There can only be demos if there are games coming out soon and the developers are who make the demos not the PSN

    PS – Cant wait for MGS4 …. EPIC !!!

  • I mean, this isn’t the best update ever, but some of you need to take chill pills.

  • I wonder how many people complaining actually have content purchased before. I haven’t cared about updates in a very long time and that is because I have far too many other things to play now.

I do want Suikoden already. Grr.

  • This is a terrible update… I’m not usually one who complains but there is really nothing worthwhile here(unless you have Rock Band). Also why didn’t the U.S. get Dark Mist? I had to buy it from the Hong Kong PS store (so happy it’s in english)

  • FilliamHMuffman

Rayman, which went up on the European store today, was rated by the ESRB months ago. I guess you hacks are going to tell us you can’t get it on the store because it’s so hard dealing with music licensing issues. Riiiiight…

While Wiiware and XBLA got two games just this week, you morons can’t even manage two games a month. And you’re sitting on a finished, translated game like Dark Mist because it’s “too Japanese”?! Too expensive to send a video tape to the ESRB and upload the game to your server? Isn’t the whole point of digital delivery that you can take a risk with less mainstream games in the first place? The PSOne and PS2 were the systems to own for fans of quirky Japanese games, and SCEA is conceding that whole market segment to the XBox 360 with games like Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, Culdcept, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon without even a fight. I thought I was buying the next-generation PlayStation, not the original XBox, which only caters to fans of shooters, sports, and racing games. To top it off, we’re still hearing “new information is coming soon” about PSN Cards. Nintendo and MS had that sorted out on day one and SCEA can’t manage it a year and a half after launch. Pathetic.

If you can’t do your jobs and get quality content to customers that paid $400-$600 for your system, where’s the petition to sign that the lot of you should be fired and replaced by people that know what they’re doing?

  • I think that this update is okay at best. I mean I always go by the saying that something is better then nothing so this update is cool for the most part. Of course it would have been better if there were some PS1 games or some demos to download.

  • I’m hoping that next week’s update has more content.

Weren’t Fatal Inertia and Bionic Commando supposed to come out this month?

Someone really needs to get cracking on securing more content (specifically games) for the store and linking the regions ogether in terms of content

That said, I’ll probably download some of the PoP wallpapers.

  • Things that are important to me for a successful store update:

Less than 2 Weeks sense good content: Fail
    Conditions for success
    PSP Demos: Fail
    PS3 Demos: Fail
    PS1 Games: Fail
    PS3 Games: Fail
    Add-ons: Fail
News Worthy Videos & Interviews: Fail
    Something for someone: FAIL
Something other than lame trailers: FAIL

This is a terrible store update, it wouldn’t sting so damn much if there was hope of something on the horizon each month.

What’s the Deal Grace? Why is the PSN Store sucking so much wind these past few weeks? Please tell me this is going to start getting better soon, because I have no reason to visit the store today.

I’d like to see at least 3 PSOne games a Week if not every two weeks. Hell a Classics (notice this is plural) day wouldn’t hurt to have once a month to introduce several PSOne titles and arcade remakes.

I can’t really complain about the demos, but more wouldn’t hurt.

Honestly you have direct access to us with the PS3, why aren’t you guys tapping into that with anything more than trailers. I don’t need bluray movie trailers, I can do that online from my PC or my PS3 web browser. I would expect to see interviews with Hideo Kojima and making of specials, and various fanfare over MGS4. Instead we have Yet another Rock band update, trailers and what not for one of the biggest games of the year. While its a good try with Battlefield bad company it isn’t the only game on PS3 right now that is out or releasing.

Why doesn’t the store have a news stand for that kind of cool stuff.

Why haven’t we gotten more themes?

Why don’t we get a special love note from Kaz Hirari or Jack Treton, or yourself? (my apologies for butchering names)

Where’s the fanfare, the bearded lady, and those crazy old people from the PSX commercials who told us about the greatest hits series back in 1998?

I’m assuming that the reason things are so slow is because something big is coming, but come on throw us a bone, clue us in, make us feel like Thursday is worth tuning in for.

  • LOL, wow just wow. Where’s Noel Silvia now? I’d like to know WTH is this stuff about “Just remember that the next update is only a week away if you’re still unsatisfied!” yet we get the same stuff that we complained about last week, like our opinions have changed on the same type of content we received last week :|. Hell I’d be delighted to see video of something that I’d actually like to see, like video from Judges Day or so on, however we have to get this information from gaming website and such, yet video content that I have no interest in, is rammed down my throat as the meat and potatoes of these store updates, as oppose games. Demos are not the only reason these posts get rated low, its the damn lack of games and demos, and we get steady streams of worthless videos (At least if you’re going to release videos, release videos that people would like to see, like TV/Movie content, and behind the scenes content of big games that are available elsewhere, except of course the increasingly lame PS Store. What’s even more dishearting is that Sony CEO, Howard Stringer feels that the PS3 is on the right track, maybe as far as the system sell and games becoming available, but the Playstation Store is an utter joke. Sorry to be rude, however its kind of ridiculous to have spent 600 bucks (Have a 60 GB PS3) on a system that was said to have a great content on the store amongst other things (While the other things have been fulfilled or are in process of being fulfilled, in which I give Sony great credit for, the PS Store is not as great as it was hype up to be, as far as content placement). Answer me this, what’s with the new store interface if you were going to release constant streams of non-sense most of the time? Really I could have use the PS Store before the new UI and been fine with it, if that meant better content. I would like to know why exactly Sony choose to continue on a route that makes us fans upset? Obviously if there is nothing for you guys to post, that means that someone is not doing their job securing content for the Store. Surely there is a wide world of content that could be accessed, especially if Sony is working with Indie Devs as it is stated, yet we continue to lack decent content, week in week out.

    • I\’m right here. *waves hello!*
It\’s rather amusing that certain people believe in a conspiracy-like situation where the Team sits around and tries to figure out how to frustrate people with the updates each week.
As is the nature of the industry, certain things fall through or get pushed back due to technical difficulties or critical bugs found.
We\’d rather release a limited amount of content than to release content that is broken.

If someone feels that it\’s easy to create and program games, please let me know and I\’d be happy to hook you up with the necessary channels to get your title evaluated. It can be done as Jonathan Mak showed with \”Everyday Shooter\”, so let me know!

  • Oh man no demos on my bday!
    Thats too bad :(

  • @60

    BCR

  • It’s the lead up to the BIG UPDATE!!!

  • Ok…..Now I feel I should say something here.

I’ve been quite for the most part and very rarely posted anything on this blog, and the times I’ve posted its always been in praise of something. In this case, however, I have to criticize PSN.

I understand all the difficulties of getting a lot of new content and old PS1 games on the PSN, but now I believe that Playstation needs to rethink their strategy when it comes to content on the PSN. Start getting old school classics and loosen their grip on licensing and allow more smaller independent devs (kinda like XNA, but with more control over quality).

I totally get it when Sony says that they don’t want a glut (no the OpenGL glut) of crappy games on PSN but it seems that its heading in the extreme opposite direction or hardly no games. A nice pace would be at least 1 to 2 new games per month (without counting demos). It would even be cool if PSN would have some of those tech demos such as the one with the PS eye game creator where you draw the game objects on paper and add them to the game with the eye.

We need some real content, people want to buy stuff. How about slowly rolling out the video store, that would keep most people happy. I love all the game videos and wallpapers, but the fact of the matter is that most of that stuff I can find online without login in to PSN.

With all that said, I am the biggest Playstation fanman (a little too old for being a boy) out there, my last non-Playstation console was a Colecovision. I think the PSN has a ton of potential, but it really needs work in the content department.

  • Sorry for the my last post, I press enter accidently (Which should be noted that the blog needs an edit feature)

    Anyway

    @60

BCR was officially delayed, about a week ago by the devs from Capcom and Grin, they new target release date is in June, as the game is complete, however Standard procedures for the content, and bugs have arisen that have caused the delay.

  • Nothing for the PSP this week. Weak!

  • By simply releasing Dark Mist, or a PSOne classic you could have turned a crummy update to a decent one. The only people that are going to comment here are for the most part hardcore gamers, the blog really needs to cater to this crowd more as we are more willing to shell out money at the store. Also an update on When Wipeout HD hits would be nice also :)

  • I do not know what Dark Mist is but it is in other PSN stores. I am sad for the PS1 support. When there is a dull update, they should look to PS1 games to fill out the network.

  • this is rediculous i have every playstation network game and for the past 3 weeks there hasnt been nothing unless u have rock band which sux give us some content dont uguys at sony want money.whoever is in charge of updating the store should get their act together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I thought Aprils Fools Day was last month! Please tell me this update is a joke…please?

  • wow bad update, Sony where is the Crash Team Racing ps1 game for the United States?????

  • See, this would be a perfect time to have released a PSOne game or three. Meanwhile, as a PSP owner, this is a TERRIBLE update.

  • FilliamHMuffman

Just remember, folks, if you don’t like today’s update, another disappointment is just a week away!

  • I heard the reason Dark Mist was passed up for an US release is because it’s to anime-ish, is it true?

  • Reefer_Smoker97

wow just wow another pointless update im not even downloading anything cept for the wallpapers shows house much sony cares for thier customers

    • We appreciate it when people realize we care by giving away something for FREE that you other places may charge for.
      Thanks for the supportive recognition!

  • Well, at least next week should be pretty good, though I will take a look at the videos posted.

  • Oh yeah……forgot to ask where are the PSN cards? I have a credit card already, but I would much rather use cards for two reasons. First is that I don’t want my CC info floating around somewhere and the other is I don’t want my wife to know when I buy stuff from the PSN. She always gets on my case about “wasting” money on video games.

  • Reefer_Smoker97

thier should be a thing where u can delete your post or edit them i screwd mine up my keybord is broken 75 good call we all know it sony really doesent care what we want its been like this since day one

  • I love you Sony, but I’m getting fed up with these lackluster updates. The PS3 is more than a year old and the lack of PS Store content is embarassing, especially compared to what the competition is offering.

  • This is absolutely a big list of poop, horrible poop. Where’s the PSP update part it seems to be missing on my screen, not only do most of the majority of PS3 users get shafted with these horrible updates but ALL of the PSP users constantly get updated, very rarely a decent demo comes along but that still doesn’t make up for all the filler crap you guys constantly add.

Also the price of the full games on the store needs to go down, people can easily get the games for cheaper in the stores or even online. I would much rather have a game on UMD then on my memory stick (you know to save space since 8 / 16 gigs are quite expensive). / end rant

  • Haven’t played my PS3 in weeks. Now I remember way. Thanks for the crap update, can’t wait to see what videos we’ll get next week.

  • whoops “get updated” should say “get shafted”.

  • That’s barely an update, it’s just sad.

  • Another week and no Dark Mist. Why? Isn’t this game already completely translated into English? Isn’t this a game that was released over six months ago on the Japanese PS Store? Half a year later and the North American PS Store still doesn’t have Dark Mist.

I paid over $400 for my PS3 and I can’t even play a small downloadble game that’s already fully translated because you wont release it on the NA Store. Why?

    Where’s Wipeout HD?
    Where’s Elefunk?
    Where’s Flower?

Why can you only release in a span of five months just 2 games that are worth buying (Echocrome and PixelJunk Monsters). 2 games that debuted AFTER Dark Mist yet that game still isn’t released here on the US Store.

There’s so much stuff that could have made this weeks update great. Not just Dark Mist but even the new MGS4 trailer that was put up on this very blog 3 days ago. Even the awesome MGS4 wallpapers that Konami has on the official site. Even MGS1 so people can get even more excited before MGS4 hits. I really hope that next week the update is filled to the top with MGS related downloads. There’s an amazing game that’s just over the horizon and if you don’t support it like it deserves then you’ll be disrespecting not only Konami but us the fans. The people who payed $400+ for their PS3’s. The people who are still supporting you just like they did back with the PS1 and PS2.

  • I’m beyond getting disappointed in the update anymore. Now it’s more laughable than anything. Do any of your higher ups ever look at the download numbers and say, “hey, why are our numbers down 25% from this time last year?”? I’ve been with Sony since the PS1 launch and wouldn’t think of replacing my PSP/PS3 with anything else but you have to think of the people that are deciding on which handheld or console to buy and make yours as appealing as possible. With exclusive games becoming less and less a selling factor it puts the weight on download services to help sell a system. I got my dad a PSP last Christmas and was sure there would be a new PS1 game he could download shortly there after but that didn’t happen and makes no sense to me from a business standpoint. You’d think that after the holidays, you’d want to put plenty of content out there and show people what their investment can get them. Needless to say, nothing much has changed from then to now. I hope SCEA’s taking steps to improve this service.

  • Don’t know what to say … bad update wair are the demo demo demo!?!?!?!!?!!!!

  • I am very disappointed to learn that there is no demo of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. I have been waiting quite a long time for this game to come out on the PS3. However, I simply cannot justify paying $59.99 of hard-earned money on a game that has no demo. I am sure that many of my fellow gamers will agree with my statements. Finally, I do wish to thank you for the videos for this game.

  • another crappy update :(

or maybe its building anticipation for home!

  • @50

I agree on that LoK: Blood Omen request. I loved that game and still have it. Unfortunately, days after it appeared on the ESRB list in March with Pandemonium, it was removed making me think we aren’t going to get it after all. I tried asking about it here last week but (BIG SURPRISE!) with no response. I mainly want to play it on my PSP and an hour of remote play drains 30% of my battery. I much rather have it on my produo. Here’s hoping.

  • Kindof a light update… if there’s one thing that 360 definitely has over the PS3 it’s that the available content on their download service just blows PSN away. I mean, having a Bomberman game with online multiplayer or an HD version of Lumines would go a long way (the PS2 version is horrible and doesn’t have a widescreen option). I’d really like to see Sony get the ball rolling and start offering substantial content. MS has a new game every week and they update sometimes several times a week. Seriously, what’s the issue? It’s not like Sony is strapped for cash or anything.

That being said, I’ll probably be picking up at least some of those Cars tracks, if not that whole album.

  • Totally utterly disappointed…if you aren’t into GTA, or eagerly anticipating MGS4 (of which I am one of the few who didn’t get into the series, I realize) you’ve basically got nothing to play, and it looks like it’s going to stay that way.

C’mon Sony… give us something that A) Entertains us and B)allows us to give you our money. This way, we all win, and us consumers don’t look like idiots for being loyal fanboys.

  • Another thing, why can’t you get a developer to create a decent underwater shooter for the PSN. XBLA has Undertow and the PSN should have something even better and more appealing. You are missing an untapped market!

  • @ Riskbreaker23

They said last week that there is no plan to bring Dark Mist to NA. Just buy it from the HONG KONG store.

  • 1.47 out of 5 stars (well blocks in this case) (And im sure that number will go down more)

That should tell you something about this update..

  • crap! crap! crap! SCEA where is the killer

content i dont care that psn is free like some

    people say.

  • More proof that Sony only cares about Japan. Thanks for nothing.

  • I hate people that try to defend sony dude

    these updates suck point blank..

  • @93
Even if you didnt follow the Metal gear solid serie, you will have fun playing MGS4, its one of the biggest game on ps3, i’m sure you wont be disapointed.

Anyone can answer me please on a question. I want to buy something from another store, i think it is possible but It wont let me put my credit card. What can i do? Thanks!
