Ok I have been reading these posts for quite some time now and after reading this post and Noel's responses as well as the communities responses I totally and completely had to register and add my 2 cents

@Noel

Dude kudos for taking this S__t like a man, I do have to say one of your responses did come across a bit sarcastic but after what the community threw at you I would have done the same thing...by your own admission your just "an artist" and yet the thrashing was directed to you as if this pathetic excuse for an update was your fault and thats not right.

I do recommend in the future to not refer to future updates as being satisfying however because as we all have seen since Nov 2006 SONY has not exactly been on the track to satisfy the apparent abundance of "hardcore" gamers like myself and others who have been just ....DYING for the PS3 to be able to compete with its competitor.

now what i mean by that before i get a thrashing myself is,

When I am presented with a choice between a multi-platform online game that has the ability to send msgs and invites without having to leave the game, re-enter the game and potentially leave the game AGAIN to reply...OR a game that plays in 1080i or 1080p which my TV handles just fine VS. a max 720p "ported" game...unfortunately i choose the competitor version. I cant even mention XBL vs PS Store because we all know how terrible the PS Store truly is, and therefore no competition what so ever.

thats what I meant by inability to compete...I dont look at PS3 sales vs 360 sales...I look at the quality of the games being produced and I am EXTREMELY bothered by SONY's own inability to produce first party games that offer up these features and resolutions on their own system.

I have always been the bigger fan of the Playstation since its conception and will remain a SONY faithful, but when my PS3 gets more use as a Bluray player I have to stop for a second and ask...What the hell is wrong with SONY???

sorry for the rant but i felt it was time

Part 1

@299

For starters, you're saying that it isn't easy to get content to up on the store, thus making effectively the thought of not being "Hard on Sony for the lack of content" that sounds like defending Sony to me, you either are defending Sony or speaking on where Sony is lacking, there's no in-between for the scenario. I understand that you may not be losing sleep over the issue, but personally that is you, and your unwillingness to not be confrontational, still though you either want more content or you could careless either way.

Now to your thoughts, why should people be calm about the situation, we get 1 update a week and its filled with nothing anybody wants? Ermm I think the silliness of the situation speaks for itself, and thus the justification for upset fans, who wants the content that has been promised.

In response to your question, I think I could do a better job securing content, to be honest. Honestly 2008 has had very little notable content, I believe that I surely could have gotten ahold of some decent content at least 1 week of each of the 5 month already passed this year, if not more. Hell even if I accomplished 1 week at least once out of all the months, I'd still would be fairing well, much more than Sony. Furthermore, what does "Developer" has to do with anything? Sony is a company (And a developer, however that aspect is somewhat irrevelant, unless of course one of Sony's Software Divisions are making a title for PSN) that was suppose to be securing content for PSN. Thus including approaching/getting approached from developers to arrange content being made for PSN. Clearly in the "Inside PLAYSTATION Network" Blogpost (See Link below), Peter Dille states that PSN is not about Arcade Remakes but is about Original Content, meaning that Arcade Remakes aren't going to be persued/accepted often as opposed to Original Content, which is fine in theory, however it seems Sony feels that Arcade Remakes and Original Content cannot coexist, which would be a damnable lie.

Part 2

The problem of Original Content is that there isn't enough of it. Why because gaming in itself is made from rehashed material. Main point is Genre specifics, obviously games can be categorized by type being that there are similar, of course you can add a unique Story of feel to a game, to get a somewhat total revolutionary feel to a game, however a fighter, RPG, Shooter, Racing, etc etc, is just that, their own respective genre, in which uses similar element, with some game, using more similar methods than the others, Example of that point, would be Heavenly Sword, one of Sony's new IPs with the PS3, while it uses common methods of combat in A/A games, the Story, music, and visuals were unique in their own way which made me loved the game, however its still your typical A/A title, but see there's nothing wrong with typical, which Sony seems to be convinced that there is. Really Original Content is uncharted territory because completely original ideas aren't as easy to come by, which makes PSN irrevelant, hell most things on the PS Store aren't exactly brand new thus isn't "Original" they may have an Original spin and uniqueness no one dared tried to work with, which is the admirable part of the "Original Content" conquest, however there isn't much to post that is truly original thus, the lack of content. IMO Sony isn't even trying to grasp what could be available. Just because Arcade Remixes are "Been There, Done That" there is obviously a demand for them, as content is based on opinion and demographics. Example the constant stream of RB Tracks is only appealing to one audience, and there is no content targeting other PSN Users, which is the underline reason people are making a mockery of PSN, because the content for all isn't there because, Sony is focusing on the Unique content, as opposed to what fans would like to see, which is backwards IMO, because the so called "Original Content" could be hit or miss, where as the content that is wanted, will most likely be brought because its what the fans want, hell there is no reason why there can't be the intented original content and the arcade remakes. With that said, this is why I feel the way I do, because its apparent that Sony isn't doing everything in their power to obtain content, thus is why they don't get much leeway from me.

Lastly to your speech about the PS3 being complex, sorry to be rude, but ARE YOU SERIOUS!? Sony developered the console, they know the ins and outs of the system, its not that its difficult to get content on to the store, not to mention if you're speaking on developers part, then they have had GDC Keynotes on how to develop games for the PS3 as well as have help if they contact Sony directly, there simply is no excuse for the lack of content, none whatsoever, and prime example of that, is SCEJ, they have to follow the same exact precedures as SCEA and SCEE, yet the latter to divisions are lacking in content, while SCEJ has notable content just about every week or at least 2 to 3 times out of a month.

Just as a side note, even the videos would be decent if it was stuff people actually wanted to see, like a HD version of the Konami MGS4 Trailer and TV Spots, upcoming interviews of things happening with Sony, stuff like this, but nothing, thus is why the fans are upset, and IMHO its rightly jusificated.

Hi Noel,

Thanks for replying to my question about PS1 games. Please tell someone at SCEA to glance over this blog once in awhile, particularly whoever is in charge of getting PS1 games onto the PSN for North America. We do want PS1 games. Have them glance over the numbers for Castlevania and other PS1 games that have already made it to the store. Tell them to keep in mind that the competition sells dozens of classic games every day and we feel something is missing on our favorite console.

I also want to thank everyone for being more civil this week. Yeah, the update was lacking, but it seems like the hardcore screaming whiners are either calming down or graciously absent from posting.

More avatars = great. Half the avatars available are absolute garbage, like something worse than clip art made with Paint. Noel, you know which ones I'm talking about. :)

Waiting patiently for June 12th.

I know thus is way I wrote a break down of the situation, and why I'm upset (Which could be the reason many others are upset as well), however for some reason I've submitted it twice and it has yet to post my response. I'm guessing that my response is too long, or that I'm effectively banned from the blog, in any case I'll make my thoughts known soon enough, if I have to break up my speech into 2 or 3 parts, for it to post or if I get off being banned, which every the case is, I'll definitely will be putting my thoughts out there. As far as the fanboy comment, IDK about that, I'd consider myself a fanboy as well, but I'm totally aware and am speaking on Sony's faults, so with that I don't think "Fanboyism" is what is driving the defense, but rather the denial of Sony being inferior in a couple of areas when its blatantly obvious that they are. In any case I do love Sony and do not hate them, in fact I'm still a big fan of theirs, I just don't agree with the PSN (The Store in particular) is headed and their overall objective.

No one expects you understand because if we disagree with you, we are fanboys. I swear there is no shade of grey with you, everything is "absolute." We could bring up many reasons why we are happy with the service and you are not but that won't make you feel any better you will just continue to go on how they have failed you and so on and you make it sound more dramatic than it needs to be.

Do we really need 10+ post from you in a single thread saying you are not happy could you not have said it at once it is bad when you can say you have. Some of your post back to back shoot gameblows managed as many as you did on a single page but both just as fruitless and get nothing but empty request and tired insults to other gamers.

Light update but got a few games I am looking forward to DBZ burst limit:online and MGS a few days after. I would like to request all three dark knight trailers before the movie comes out. Also the incredible hulk trailer.

Noel can you please do a documentary or ask someone to do so, so you can enlighten those who believe only one group has to approve a game for it to be released, a flowchart or diagram would do wonders to educate people on this matter. Pretty sure noel you could draw one up since you are an artist you can even add drawings of the "people" funny ones like pain character drawings or something entertaining. Thanx

He won't understand you. Fanboys cannot be reasoned with. Sony is perfect in every way, and so is every aspect of the PS3. If Sony fails to deliver, and says for the trillionth time in nearly two years "Just hang on a bit longer/we're working on it" we are expected to shutup and wait. The problem isn't Sony, it's us. We need to learn how to lower our expectations and be thankful for what we get, so as to meet them half way on their blatant and repeated shortcoming, and be sure to never compare their service to the vastly superior offerings of their two competitors.

Thats just how he sees everything, and you can't reason with that kind of shocking and gross ignorance. The PS3 is his GOD, and gods are perfect.

Home is amazing. They added UBISOFT Days room. AMAZING. Its over for xboxlive. I can see more developers posting their stuff in their own created section and just loading tons of videos, pics, discussions, etc. Just like Second life but for gaming. Home is what we need especially when waiting on titles to hit store shelves. It is a very dynamic virtual 3D entertainment environment. Sony has a hit.
