Day in LA: Ask Your E3 Questions, Share Your Pics

Jeff Rubenstein's Avatar + Posted by Jeff Rubenstein on Jun 10, 2008 // Sr. Social Media Manager

Tomorrow I’m heading down to our Santa Monica studios (with a side trip to Insomniac Games) to shoot some pre-E3 interviews. In case you weren’t reading us last year (I’m glad you came around), we asked a number of producers the following questions:

    1. What game do you have at E3 this year?
    2. Describe it in five words or less.
    3. If you could sit one person in front of your game for an hour, who would it be?
    4. What game do you most want an hour to sit in front of yourself (besides your own)?
    5. How many E3’s does E3 2007 mark for you?
    6. Describe the pre-2007 E3 experience in five words or less.
    7. Most over used phrase or expression during E3 season.
    8. You are asked to make suggestions for an E3 survival kit- what three items HAVE to be included?
    9. What advice would you have for someone who has never experienced E3?
    10. Describe what you anticipate from 2007’s newly formatted E3 in five words or less.

The plan is to do something similar, only I’ll be shooting video so you can better get to know the faces behind the games you’ll be playing over the next year or so.

Looking at this list, I’m thinking not all of these questions are relevant this year. So what would *you* ask? Keep in mind I’m asking the same questions to everyone I interview, and that it’s more focused on the person and the event than the games – I’ll of course invite you to share your game-specific questions *at* E3. So please don’t post: “how many multiplayer stages will there be in R2??”

I’ll ask that *next* month.

Oh, and later on tomorrow night, I’m going to drop by the Hollywood launch of Metal Gear Solid 4. Anything you’d like me to ask David Hayter (the incredibly gruff voice of Snake) or any of the producers on hand?

Speaking of MGS launches, if you end up taking some good pics of yourself in line (especially if you’re dressed up like Snake or Eva or Ocelot), give us some link love in the comments.

PS if you’re lining up at the West Hollywood Best Buy, make sure to say hi.

I have a question to insomniac:

With the upcoming release on resistance 2, will you guys release any episodic content for ratchet and clank this year?

I have 1 serious question for Insomanic, my last post was just me being abrassive towards all the good news for the other guys.

To insomniac, Ted Price, Brian Algier etc, etc, etc..

1 – Are your plans after Resistance 2 to go multiplatform with your new division? I hope not cause you’re the best developers on the Ps3 and without you the system would have no diversity or worth beyond just another games machine. You make the games I want to play and I bought my ps3 for your games. Well, Naughtydogs too but that’s a different story.

1. Will FFXIII and Versus remain exclusives?
2. What about in-game XMB? Will there be an update anytime soon?
3. Any new information on God of War III? Is it still coming out next year?
4. What is your stand on jrpg’s now?

MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION:

Do you think that the PS3’s lack of a true online community is due to SONY’s arrogance about HOME or simply their ignorance regarding core features missing from the PS3’s operating system?

Man, I should’ve put this in my other post but here goes.

Jeff, could you ask the High Velocity Bowling team when they’re going to update the game? I was hoping to hear more about it but since Ernie left I haven’t heard anything and it is one of my favorite games to date!

New bowlers, online… anything would be great!

If you’re going to Santa Monica I guess there’s a good chance God of War 3 will be shown at E3. Hopefully you’ll be paying a visit to Sucker Punch soon as well, it would be good to see more on Infamous.
I’m also curious to know what Sony Bend are up to these days… :)

How is your game SIMILAR to the other games being shown at E3 this year?

Heres one for you..

“With new tech gear on the horizon such as 3D displays, visual tracking, Super HD, BluRay and motion detection what do you thing will be the most important tech advance for developers in the next 5 years”?

With all of the conventions/expos that are out there to attend, why is E3 the one to be at??

+ maluraq on June 11th, 2008 at 8:35 pm said:

@GhostInTheVoid: I wouldn’t be surprised if the likes of Insomniac or Naughty Dog wasn’t involved in some way in the development of Home and the trophy system.

They’re such huge independent publishers with an obviously intimate knowledge of the platform and excellent programming teams that it would be silly not to at least try to contract some work from them.

+ maluraq on June 11th, 2008 at 9:05 pm said:

@gamesblow: quit asking the same questions when they’ve been answered before quite well.

1 -Why is Home still not out?
Sony has commented that Home was too focussed on the wrong things and that they’re refocusing it.

2 -Why do we still not have xmb?
Nobody promised you in-game XMB on any type of timeline, ever, officially, so stop whining about it already. There is in-game messaging from several games including Resistance which was a launch title.

3 -Why is Sony killing the most appealing games the ps3 had? Getaway, Eightdays to name a few?
I can’t imagine why either of those games would be considered the most appealing. Last I checked Gran Turismo is coming and so is MGS4, both much bigger franchises. As for Sony Studios, God of War 3 is on the horizon, or do you really think Eight Days would be better?

4 -Why is all 3rd party support leaving sony?
Many third parties are now developing for Sony primarily with 360 as a secondary. Even EA is doing sports franchise work for the PS3 as a primary dev system, and Burnout was built around the PS3 first.

5 -Why can’t Sony get a 3rd party exclusive now? Oh, and keep it.
Insomniac is a third party, Naughty Dog is a third party, Kojima is a third party. What’s your problem exactly?

6 -Why no RPGS, Sony?
Ah, one good question in the top 6. Of course (and speaking of exclusives), Disgaea’s coming this summer to the PS3 exclusively. I’m excited about it.

Since there’s a decent chance of running into Namco-Bandai there, how about this question:

Is there a particular reason why the advertising for the PS3 SCIV is so dark? I mean, in a way, it could be easily misconstrued.

I just got back from the MGS4 signing event at Time Square. I’ve got 3 copies of the game signed by Kojima, Atocon and the super model lady. If anyone is interested in getting a copy from me. Let me know!

@ Maulrak

I hope you’re not series. I don’t want to address all your answers cause well, your info is wrong on all counts basically… but

4 – So you’d rather have GT5, MGs4 & GOW3 than anything NEW & ORIGINAL? That’s nice, but see… I’m sick of numbers being behind my games and rehashings of the the same engines over and over. GT5 doesn’t even have car damage and looks donkey compared to Grid.

5 – Insomniac is an independent 2nd party & Naughtydog is owned by Sony. Sony bought them back in 2001. Do some homework. Konami isn’t making anything exclusive for PS3. Mgs4 will make its way to the xbox 360 someday. Wait and see.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Sony. I do but I want new things from Sony. I’d rather have Eightdays, a new IP, than God of War 3 or Mgs4. Even if it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. For the simple fact it was new.

Hope you understand.

If you see Namco-Bandai ask them where our Katamari is! Also ask if they figured out yet that trying to sell a cool game like that to MS’s FPS zombies doesn’t work. Bring KD back home to PS3!

I dunno exactly what this E3 is and i’ve been trying to fuigure it out but of topic. Back there they was talk of some RPGs and someone suggested the create a Legend of the Dragoon 2. I think thats a great idea and someone should create a site or something for a potition or something I think it would be a great asset and change the PS3 image in some gamers eyes if it were done weel and correctly.

Most important things:

1.) Ask David Hayter if, in his youth, he was hit in the throat.

2.) LBP

3.) Everything HOME. Focusing primarily on the expansion of the beta that was brushed on.

4.) Video download service for PSN. Release date, pricing, etc. (Will it be less expensive than my PPV? ‘Cause if not, it’ll be pretty lame.)

5.) Console MMO’s excluding HOME. “The Agency” and the superhero MMO by DC looked pretty cool, but I haven’t heard much about them for a while now.

6.) In the off chance you run into someone high up at Sony, tell them that continuously delaying the open beta of HOME is not a smart move. Delaying it half a year is acceptable. Delaying it a year is understandable, so long as there is a valid reason for it from a gain/cost standpoint. But a year and a half delay is quite simply unacceptable in more ways than one.

7.) Have fun. (sure wish I go.(Stupid invite only :p))

To a dev: Do you understand all the aspects of all of your source code? Or do you specialize to the extent that you only fully can work with ? Do you understand how the middleware such as your physics engines work to the extent that you could make your own basic engine?

To the webmaster: Could you perhaps include an EDIT feature so one can avoid double posts?

I’ll ask the most important, because it is reality and you folks at SONY are constantly hiding it. Microsoft didn’t react to the RROD for a long long time, and you guys are now doing the exact same thing with the disc-reading issue. So my question is:

Sony, when will you admit and of course fix the goddamn disc-reading issue that kills 100% of PS3 units?

My ps3 broke down few days after MGS4, and i am not getting anything from sony again till i hear an apology from you, and of course a fix. I’m still playing my atari2600 that it +20 years old..my ps3 didn;t last one..you expect all of us to extent our warranty and give in our units every 8-16 months for the upcoming 5 years? Hell you must be dreaming.

1. a new Jaks game?
2. when is God of War 3 coming?
3. when is resident evil 5 coming?
4. any new ps3 exclusive Crash coming? old school crash.
