PAIN Nigel Character ($0.99)

  • Thanks for the upgraded Friends List. Too bad there’s nothing in this update that really interests me.

  • Sony should just update the store like in Japan, whenever they get stuff, post it.

  • Hey, Grace. Another fairly solid update for the PS3. PSP seems to be really hitting a dry spell.

Will you be taking part in E3 and, if so, what will you be doing? Thanks.

  • We do need the PS1 titles from the Japanese PS Store. The selection we have in the US is extremely poor for no reason, maybe distro rights vary per country? Maybe they are working on a sliding scale for pricing PS1 titles for the US (bad move). I’m sure there is a really good reason, but we haven’t heard it yet.

All I know is I really want that copy of Xenogears (I’m sure there are tons of titles that are available in Japan that I would purchase too).

    • \”maybe distro rights vary per country?\”
As mentioned in previous Store update posts, you\’re absolutely correct.
Hope this helps shed some light for you!

  • Nice update. Yeah, thanks for upgrading the friends list to 100. I’m surprised you guys didn’t mention it.

  • finally, it is updated!

  • I don’t think SCEA likes to work with Japanese third parties, which would explain the severe lack of content from them. They rather stick to artsy crap they find here in the US instead.

I would gladly give up stuff like Flow and Pain for something like Mega Man 9 and Square PS1 games.

  • @56, me too.

  • thatsmartguywiththefro

not a bad update, but what I REALLY REALLY want is Sketch ‘n’ Scan! (at least that’s what IGN was calling the PS Eye games shown at GDC and in videos from the R & D Lab)

Please do whatever you can to get this on the Store, I’d happily pay $10 for it and would even go as far as to pay $20. I know they were only tech demos at GDC, but what’s the point of demoing something if you aren’t going to release it?! Besides some really innovative games, you could use this scanning tech to draw and import you own themes onto the PS3, or to send pictures to friends.

now that in Game XMB, a video service, and Life with PlayStation (which by the way looks to have a very bright future) are all just around the corner my PlayStation experience is almost complete. All that’s left is LBP, Home, and Sketch ‘n’ Scan.

  • I hope the playstation network theme is a quick fix. Could you please just make that icon customizable in the future. It makes every other theme look out of place.
If you need to brand something keep it out of the default icon bar. The custom icons for the rss, and folding at home don’t matter because they don’t slap you in the face like the psn icon does.

  • Pretty decent update, but what happened to the PS1 Classics?

I thought that they were returning, and that perhaps someplace other than Japan would see a lot.

Also, I know this is Capcom’s problem, but does anyone know what happened to Bionic Commando: ReArmed?

It should have been released early last month, and they delayed it due to some last minute bugs which shouldn’t have taken 5 weeks to correct.

  • pfft I’m not paying 17 bucks for Medievil Resurrection just for it to take up space on my mem stick when I can buy the UMD version for 10 bucks at Gamestop.

  • SCEA, why do you hate us so? SCEE and SCEJ love their regions so much more.

  • Ehh… once again, Rock Band carries the update.

  • This is perhaps the worst update for me personally cause it hands down doesn’t offer me 1 thing worth getting. I just don’t see how they can continue to neglect certain gamers. Why not toss a damn RPG out on the PSN once in a while since you don’t want to make big ps3 ones this generation?

I just nothing Sony is doing is making sense to me. It’s almost as if they’re driving their consumers away. If I could obtain the ps1 games I want thru disc means in perfect brand new condition I would, unfourtunatly you can’t find them anymore in mint condition.

I am really disappointed, but it’s not suprising. It’s typical.

  • thanx sony, hope we can get more and more demos on coming games, like naruto o final fantasy dissidia

  • Besides the Hot Shots Golf, and PSN Theme nothing really else interests me :(.

  • @ kingv84 you arwe posting to much with no real reason behind please quit it, ot ok update looking foward for monday it is going to rule, http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-161711.aspx

  • Could you PLEASE tell us when the PSN cards are coming?
I have tons of credit at gamestop, and I keep spending my money on DLC…would be nice to use that credit.

  • Sony, you should price down the psp downloadable games to that of the evil Gamestops resale prices. at least it gives people an acutal option AND helps put a stop to the evil that is Gamestop.

  • why can i post with my computer i have to use my phone

  • and kingv84 stop it, you are acting silly
    ok

  • Nothing surprising from the blog trolls today.

For the guy asking about Qore.It comes out next week. You get the very nice looking Naurto Ninja Storm demo that’s exclusive till July17th when everyone gets it.

  • Great Job PSN Team!

I really like the PSN theme. I’m very picky with my themes. I have only used the original so far. Now I am going to use the PSN theme for a while.

P.S. Thank you very much for confirming that Firmware 2.40 is indeed coming. Take your time. :D

    • Glad to know people are liking the PSN Theme.
You asked for one, we made one!
Look for more of your requested Theme ideas to appear on the Store in the future!

  • Not too bad for people interested in this stuff. Unfortunately, the main thing I want from the store are PS1 games and they just aren’t coming… well at least not like I thought they would. With PSP releases few and far between, I would’ve thought this would be a great way to hold peoples interest in the system. Anyways, for me this is all secondary wants to the classics so there’s no need for me to hit the store until there’s a solid library. I’m still a big Sony supporter and think my PSP and PS3 are great but I’m taking a break from the store and maybe when I check back in a month or two things will have changed. Here’s hoping SCEA gets this back on track in the meantime.

  • Grace can you answer me this one question?

How long before you start releasing more of the PS1 titles like the Japanese Store does?

  • This update isnt that great u guys should be working your butts off to get ps1 games out but it seems as though your not doing anything,EVERYONE WANTS THEM SO GIVE THEM TO US.You should at least explain why we dont get them instead of tour infamous one line responses if its due to different regulations you should of approached all the people necessary to get them and u cant tell me all the first party titles cant be uploaded DO SOME WORK everyone is crying for ps1 games me included BUT U JUST DONT LISTEN!

also still waiting for SOCOM BETA I went and checked out about it and theres a closed beta then a public beta then the Qore users get a taste shameful u made it sound as though when we got Qore last month we would get it right away SHAMEFUL SONY GIVE YOURSELF A SPANKING.

  • SCEA just doesn’t want our money. As they would get truck loads if they released MGS, RE, and Xenogears in NA.

  • Love the PlayStation Network theme! :D Everything looks so… blue. :P

    Thank you!

  • @ zorox ” I don’t think SCEA likes to work with Japanese third parties, which would explain the severe lack of content from them. They rather stick to artsy crap they find here in the US instead.

I would gladly give up stuff like Flow and Pain for something like Mega Man 9 and Square PS1 games.” WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO CRITICIZE AMERICAN DEVELOPERS AND CALL THEIR WORK, YOU DEFINITELY ARE DESRESPECTFULL QUIT ACTING LIKE A TROLL

  • Hey guys nice update downloadiong new cod Movie

where is the PLAYSTATION Network Theme cant find it anywhere on the store?

  • @75
Quit whining…Noel has explained it many times why it takes time for PS1 titles to make it to the store.

First the titles are always released by the host reigon first. If it’s a SCEJ related title,it goes there first.

    Second,
after you get past that you have royalties if there is licensed music, the game has to be rated by the ESRB.If the original developers aren’t in business anymore, you can forget ever getting that title. You can’t just slap a title on the server and say bam, come get it.

But,by all means keep it up cause it’s working..lol

  • I just can’t believe Sony is sitting on a wealth of in house games, pork product the 3rd party stuff, but they have tons of in house ps1 games they can give us here in America. Tomba, Crash team racing are just 2 cause I don’t want to go on a big rant again, but I was hoping after nearly 2 years on the market we would have more than 20 ps1 games on our store.

That’s 52 updates a year + another 52 save 5 months and we only have 20 games? PSn is lacking major quality.

  • Chants_Is_My_PSN

Great update, I’m looking forward to the PLAYSTATION Network theme. Btw thanks for keeping the themes and backgrounds free. :)

  • So far, I’ve liked the PSN Store updates we’ve gotten for the past couple of weeks. Plenty of demos, plenty of good add-ons, and plenty of videos. I’m glad we’re getting the Hot Shots demo, it’s a fantastic game, but I have two questions:

    1) How come it took so long? Didn’t Europe get it months ago?

    2) Are we going to get more PS1 games on PSN? I look at the Japanese store, I get excited. I look at the US store, and I cry. I look at the Europe store, and I feel sorry for them.

    All I’m saying is this:

You have a good, solid online network that brings players together from around the world, I want to ask this:

Can you unify it? Make ever PS Store the same. What Japan gets, both NA and Europe gets. What we get, both Europe and Japan gets. What Europe gets, Japan and NA gets. What I’m saying is that PSN has the potential to be the best thing out there, but the one thing holding it back is store content. Like I said earlier, what’s there already is nice, but each regions store is severely different in terms of content, or in terms of when two different stores get said content.

  • What is going on with Singstar? Why can’t we ever get any info on this game? It seems like SCEA has completely forgotten that this game came out over a month ago. This game has gotten no love on this blog and the song updates for the last month have been terrible. Some info on this game would be nice to here or at least some promotion for it.

  • Thanks! I was looking forward to a Top Spin 3 demo!

  • @80
ESRB ratings!! Give me a break, every game in my collection for PSOne has an ESRB rating on it. Why in the **** would the need to re-rate a game that was already rated once in the 90’s. I mean honestly, was there a change in the ratings system and none of us were invited to the meeting? For those titles that are getting ratings, just check the rumored content thread on the PSU message boards here at the PlaySTation website. There is a complete list of verified titles that have been rated by the ESRB so what’s the hold up?

While you say that titles are by respected region first, that is a BS policy. If they can release MGS4 world wide then they can release a completed title from over a decade ago all at once world wide. Their drag in their ass and they know it. Besides there are a butt load of games on the JP PSN, why is it that 3 months, 6 months, and even a year in some cases that those games are in the JP PSN Store and we have none of those titles.

Only thing I buy in that argument is that they have to negotiate royalties. However how hard is it to pick up a phone and say “Hey we’d like to setup a table for discussions about your PSOne library”? If this is important to Sony they should be taking the initiative (which they have btw if you check IGN’s state of the PSP).

PSOne titles are necessity at this point. Especially if you’re a PSP owner. Games like God of War, Patapon, Crisis Core and others have proven that making PSP games into Epic titles is the way to make money on PSP. Developers are just now catching on and we won’t see new titles probably until Next year. Thats a long fricken wait and I’ve beaten all of those titles inside and out in every mode. Only title I have left is MGS:PO and how long will that last me? PSOne titles are something I want and are a damn fine solution to the problem and a quick fix with little effort. Corporate Politics be damned, they need to make money on both sides of the table honestly someone needs to point this out to these @$$holes (yes I’d volunteer for the job). Right now there are three PSOne games on my PSP, I need more.

  • Awesome Update guy. Umm Qore Esp. 2 is coming July 3 right?

  • Dammit! Bring the PS1 down loadable games to PSN! Do it dammit.

  • @86
Sounds like you know everything and how it all works.lol

  • @80

    LIES!!!

both SCEJ and SCEE have games that were originally published by SCEA that we STILL do not have. The biggest one I can think of is CTR.

  • Hey playstation store, show some love to the PSP and make a version of your theme for us. :P

  • @89
I know stuff, but I think I may have gone a tad over the top. My apologies to Grace as I appreciate the effort they do put in and to Jeff for any embarrassment I may have caused. However something needs to be done and fast. I love my PSP and it was a hard decision to make when I decided to wait to get a PSP instead of buying a DS. When I got the unit I was so happy with everything that it did and what it was going to do. Over the past 3 years the system has become an extension of my everyday life and I go no where without it. I watch over it like a hawk to make sure all is going well to make sure that this little extension of me is supported to the fullest.

I also like the possibilities it adds to the PS3 and being able to continue my games on my TV when I’m near the end of the game or being able to quickly switch to a game I’m in the mood for.

So I watch, I watch Sony with a close eye waiting for details, I watch to find out where they can go and why they do the things that they do. Sometimes it feels like they are just making excuses because they are spread to thin, part of that is because of Money and the way to get money is to put PSOne titles in the store.

One thing that Sony could do for the Ratings problem is to just release the games as RP and put the highest level of lock on them until they get a rating set. At least then the games would be out there and they could update us when the ratings are set. Not hard. Someone is not looking for a solution, because it just doesn’t seem like a priority.

Well time to get back to MGS3, hopefully I’ll be playing MGS4 soon. Really happy I have BC on my PS3 or I’d have to miss out on the entire series.

  • Heh, look at all the PS1 complaints. Perhaps SCEA could invest into a blog, so they can respond to these oft-repeated complaints/requests and put something into perspective. Oh… wait, this is supposed to be a blog. But not one post-in-red on two pages. Tsk. Tsk. What’s the point of this blog, SCEA, if you’re not going to participate?

  • Look guys we can fight amongst each other every post or we can face the facts. Sony doesn’t really know how to deal with the psn in terms of a global scale. We are region locked and sanctioned off away from everyone. We’re not a community, we’re a prison block and only are allowed to cross over on recess it seems.

I honestly think Sony looks at their system like this, it’s a ps3 and its main focus is on ps3 and to have us ask for 10 year old games is unheard of to them. An insult almost.

Well, if they’d release ps3 games worth a damn we’d be happy I suppose. Well that’s my take.

  • Good to finally see the Hot Shots Golf demo up in the store, hopefully more people will go out and buy the game so we can get some more people online. Plenty of room online for you all.

I’d really like to see SCEA put up more PSone games in the store, the demand appears to be there, but I don’t know whether people are actually buying the games from the store. Japan does seem to be getting a frequent supply of them and apparently Square-Enix has no plans to release games on the US PSN for now. Great :(

There goes hope of Final Fantasy 7.

  • @4 chill out.

  • @ #95, well, people might buy more if they’d put more up there and a better variety. I’ve only bought Wild Arms so far. I’d have bought Symphony of the Night, but I already got it from XBLA. I’d buy Castlevania Chronicles if they’d stop sitting on it. I’d get Intelligent Qube as well (Sony property, so don’t even need to get the rights to put it on there). I have a PSP, but not much longer—nothing is coming out for it, and KazeEternal (#86) is right, PS1 games can help feel the gap(ing disappointment).

  • This update is made of fail.
