At least it’s now been reconfirmed that in-game XMB is coming in the next full firmware update. I’ve been waiting since the PlayStation 3 launch. Not long now my PlayStation brethren!

I’m very happy to hear that TROPHIES will also be included. The name is precise, to the point, everyone knows what a Trophy is, and it sounds a hell of a lot better than accomplishments.

Roll on E3!

how about a real timeframe instead of skipping around the issue with every blog post by saying “soon”.

2.40 is coming the 26th, 2.50 is coming near E3, and we get 2.36 this Thursday.

But we all know what the new question will be… WHEN???? we want dates, estimations, time frames, something. waiting without knowing sucks…

Also, anyone knows if MGS4 will support trophies?

@ Kratos_ate_Snake: I think it’s a safe bet that MGS4 will support the Trophy system and more than like, Home (whenever it launches).

Thanks for easing the pain, Eric. Can you comment on whether the update will include in-game music and if this whole BS Microsoft patent is true? Also, Is 2.4 coming before July?

Sony please don’t release 2.36. I’m sure the current firmware is stable enough till 2.40 arrives. I own more than 3 PS3’s. It’s quite a hassle for me because for some reason I can’t update all at the same time. It successfully updates on one, and fails to download on the rest. IDK why. I pretty much have to download and update one by one. I like constant updates but in my situation it’s pretty annoying knowing the updates contain little to no difference.

Why do you need to make two different updates?
You could just integrate the 2.36 fixes into 2.4 and release just that when it’s ready, I hope in a couple of weeks.
I don’t think stability with a few original Playstation titles deserve its own early update.

2.36 firmware: Thursday, June 19th 2008

2.40 firmware: Tuesday, July 15th 2008.

You know, i can picture a lot of people in various forums getting all excited when they see the firmware notice on their PS3(thinking it is 2.40) and posting about it.

As for the “why not put out 2.40 now” questions, maybe it just isn’t quite ready yet.

@ #52 (Withnail): I wouldn’t designate all releases not ending in 0 to be security fixes/patches. There have been some that included new features. This may have changed once users started complaining about getting new features monthly.

It certainly took long enough for official word on this. Im glad to know its in the pipeline and we’ll see it soon now.

Sony guys, i love you, and i’ve been a firm supporter since the original PlayStation, but you guys need to start telling us exactly WHY things like Home and In-Game XMB have been delayed so much. Not hearing much at all for more than a year is kind of disconcerting.

I love the Blog, but please try to be a little more open with us.

hey nice 2 know but i got a question when the games are gonna be play by the same cd not like they do that u have 2 install them and then play cuase now i have like 15 or 16 and my hard drive is almost full…i think if u have a blue ray disk u dont need 2 intall them cause thay have 2 much info. in them?

Its nice that Eric confirmed 2.40 while he was announcing 2.36. If he hadn’t people on here would have freaked. I wouldn’t expect 2.40 until July if I was you guys. You may be disappointed otherwise.

They aren’t going to give us a date. They never give a date. They will say “soon” on the Blog when its coming within a few days. Just be patient. Its coming.

Speaking of which, I sure hope Heavenly Sword gets ’stability updates’ I tried playing it again and it still has glitches where it will halt at a black screen, or the sound doesn’t work at certain points in the game…

I said in other forums. This should have been out before MGS4. In a game that doesnt use the Playstation Network it could have been hugely helpful for when your in game and received a message from someone on the PSN friends list telling you their Konami Game ID so you can add them to your MGO friends list.
