PlayStation Experience Back on Patrol

Posted by Andrew Adams // Marketing Program Manager

This Summer, our two PlayStation trucks, The PlayStation Experience & The PlayStation Patrol are back out on the road, traveling around the country to popular events and concerts to showcase the hottest PlayStation products, and, thanks to some really exciting changes, they are better than ever.

Exterior Closed

We’ve transformed the PlayStation Experience truck into a social and community-focused environment for gamers with the addition of several highly-interactive and hands-on gaming areas.

We are showing a pre-release version of LittleBigPlanet to consumers in a specially themed area. LittleBigPlanet is certain to be one of the biggest games to hit PS3 this year and we are offering an incredibly rare opportunity chance to play the game months before it even releases!

LittleBigPlanet

A new interactive Rock Band stage enables consumers to try out their skills with the blockbuster game Rock Band and register for our summer-long contest “Take the Stage with Rock Band On Tour,” where you and up to three additional band members have the chance to win a trip to perform on a side stage at an actual concert event! You can check out the current leaders and learn more about the contest and it’s rules at http://www.takethestagewithrockband.com/.

Rock Band on board

We also have a specially built SingStar Stage where SingStar PS3 comes alive as aspiring rock stars sing along to their favorite songs while watching the actual music video on screen from top artists including The Killers, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Outkast, R.E.M., Radiohead, Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls.

Singstar

We still left in plenty of regular game stations so you can check out many of the latest releases on PlayStation 3, including the exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and PLAYSTATION Network (PSN) titles such as PAIN, echochrome and PixelJunk Monsters.

The PlayStation Patrol truck has also gone through it’s own metamorphosis. We created the PlayStation Player’s Lounge, a competition area complete with lounge seating and two 52-inch LCD big screen TVs for some of the best big screen battles ever.

Players Lounge

We did not want to stop there, so we built in two Gran Turismo 5 Prologue game stations complete with racing seats complete with Logitech Driving Force GT steering wheels!

GT5P

With the five interior 40-inch LCDs still in play, along with tons of other screens on the outside, we left plenty of room for gamers to check out all the latest and best from PlayStation!

Full Truck Down Inside

We’ll be updating both trucks with new games throughout the year, including exclusive access to this year’s most-anticipated titles prior to their general availability. Click here and here to see whether the trucks are rumbling towards a town near you.

Truckin’ a, man. Truckin’ a.
These are some nice trucks. I went to some NASCAR race with my brother a year back (he designs the engines) and I was at one of the original trucks – they have come a long way in a year. The interior design is sick!

Really liking the LittleBIGPlanet area.

Don’t leave the keys in the cab, I will be carjacking it.

61

ThomasAnthony  |  June 19th, 2008 at 1:38 pm

This thing was great, I got to play LittleBigPlanet finally. Why not give us loyal blog viewers a promo code to play the small builds?

62

edtorious  |  June 19th, 2008 at 1:44 pm

FORGET MY HOUSE, I WANT TO LIVE IN THAT TRUCK! ;-D

63

Joe  |  June 19th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

Any chance the truck will come to Michigan?

Also there is a cool game idea from reel gamers and I was wondering if there would ever be any chance for a game like it.

http://reelgamers.com/games/smash.html

The game is like Super Smash brothers only it has Playstation characters instead. If it could not be like that any chance it could be a brawler like Tekken.

Scodo_Thope  |  June 19th, 2008 at 2:08 pm

So when can I expect to see you in Dallas?

65

enewtabie  |  June 19th, 2008 at 2:17 pm

Hi guys,if you get Media Molecule to drop a demo or what you had at the Pre E3 day. Then people will start worshiping at the temple of Sony. We’re gonna need it.

you have to stand up to play gt5p? come on.

68

bigfnrabbit  |  June 19th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

I wish that they would broaden their destinations to come to CANADA other than that it looks and sounds pretty sweet.

69

Jeigh  |  June 19th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

Ditto to Cobra Girl (#25)! The Evergreen State will love you long time. :P

Though very little ever comes our way so I’m not expecting much. Apparently the sight of trees still standing scares a lot of people.

Just keep in mind that around here earthquakes, tornados, and terrorist attacks are a lot less likely(we get a little flooding every now and then, but it just opens up the opportunity for a PlayStation Flotsam XD ). If it’ll sweeten the pot I’d pay for your team to ride the Space Needle.

Just something to think about.

Zaku  |  June 19th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

Great work on the designs of the booths. Just wish I didn’t live in a small town so one of these could head my way :(

71

Herby  |  June 19th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

The truck is looking sweet. I have seen the truck once in Miami at a Indy Race and that is it. When are you guys gonna swing down to the real dirty South.

@3
Singstar has had only about 30 songs released since its release here in the US. Although it launched with 200+ songs for download.
The songs they have released so far have been dismal to say the least. I know it isn’t Sony’s(even though they own a record company) fault, it is the record companies that make it a pain to license these songs. The laws are screwed. In the UK they get much more songs released.
They haven’t posted about Singstar on this blog because they don’t want people complaining about the song selection.

The game is a blast and there is online features that need to be tweaked to make it even better.

“I know many players who actually have bought PS3 because of Getaway and Eight Days.”

Give me a break. If that’s true, then you know a whole bunch of idiots. NOBODY bought a PS3 based on a few screenshots and a paragraph description of a couple games that never even received the slightest bit of promotion or media attention.

76

TouchyEd  |  June 19th, 2008 at 3:26 pm

@71:

They promised hundreds of new songs EVERY month.

I laughed at them when they first said it (knowing full well that they’d NEVER fulfill that kind of promise)…and I’m still laughing.

77

Seba501  |  June 19th, 2008 at 3:34 pm

A really good idea.

84

hodayathink  |  June 19th, 2008 at 9:54 pm

So let me get this straight:

You’re going to Milwaulkee for Summerfest next weekend. And then, for the next weekend, you’re staying in Milwaulkee, even though the Taste of Chicago is going on less than 2 hours away? In a much bigger city? What the hell? That’s not even fair.

85

ThomasAnthony  |  June 19th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

They’ll be in Milwaukee again? I just played it at the Milwaukee Mile. Well SummerFest is the most important thing going on in the next few weeks, more important than anything Chicago is doing until Lollapalooza.

Why would they choose Taste of Chicago over Summerfest? Funniest thing I’ve read on this blog. Summerfest > * music event this summer besides Lollapalooza.

89

cxplorer  |  June 20th, 2008 at 8:02 am

Are you guys going to show in Canada,Quebec?

90

reson8er  |  June 20th, 2008 at 9:13 am

This may qualify as a dumb question, but it does not hurt to ask ;)

For the event :
July 11 – July 15
MLB All Star Fan Fest
New York City, NY

Does one have to purchase tickets to the All Star Fan Fest to have access to the Playstation Experiance? (e.g. the trailer is parked next to the event but not in it.)

91

blizzard182  |  June 20th, 2008 at 10:27 am

The PS3 is looking huge man, huge. Any chances you get this tricks to Argentina?

yeah, didn´t think so.

BTW love the LBP and GT5 stands

92

hodayathink  |  June 20th, 2008 at 11:51 am

@ThomasAnthony: Oh, I don’t know, more people, same time frame, lots of musical performances (Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Plain White T’s, etc.), and the fact that they will have already been there the weekend before? Can’t you just spread the love? Yes, musically Lollapalooza is the bigger event, but the Taste draws many more people (you know, seeing as it is free), and still has lots of music.

93

cxplorer  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 7:56 am

You guys still didn’t reply to my questions. Are you going to Canada,Quebec?!?!
I want to try Little Big Planet too!!
