I was actually pretty impressed with the search feature. I appears to be built more for the PSP rather than a shortcut to the funky browser on-board the PSP. Not bad, but I would have liked something a little more useful (DivX/Xvid).

@FreePlay PS3 firmware was hacked too and sony still makes updates with cool features, not some stupid things like google in XMB omg!… So whats the difference ?

Its very poor update… i have expected something extra.. because its x.00 fw. This update should be 3.98.

Here are some things that the next major FW update should include:

UMD caching to memory stick – option to use a predefined amount of space on the memory stick duo pro as virtual memory for UMD games. Amounts range from 32mb to 256mb+

Web browser caching to memory stick – similar to the UMD caching in that pages that require more memory to display content could cache to the allocated amount of space on the memory stick pro duo.

Updated flash support – for sites that use the newer Flash 9 and Shockwave plugins (ex Youtube).

Expanded media format support – Divx 3.11 and up for playback of Divx and Xvid encoded content.

PSN Store access from the XMB – use the PSP to directly access content available for it without the need to connect to a PC or PS3.

those are just some of the “wish list” items I am hoping Sony will add.

Why doesnt the psp website still say 3095 even though through wi-fi, i just updated to 4.00?
I’m pretty mad that it didnt have a new Flash player update for YouTube and other sites like that, I REALLY hope sony has that soon! The new search tool is nifty, but isnt what i was hoping for AT ALL!

Main things!!

-updated flash support! (Youtube support mainly)
-Expanded media format support – Divx 3.11 and up for playback of Divx and Xvid encoded content
-Increase cache for web-brower! nice idea… cache on mem-stick!
-Play music while playing/surfing… maybe is too much…
-Google apps support (like rich gmail)

I was really hoping 4.00 would have more features but instead it only has the two ones posted. I’ve read quite a bit around the net seeing is any gaming site or any posts actually like the google idea, the answer is heck no. Nice update. How about updating the browser as most sites i try to visit tell me I need to upgrade my browser to a newer version. please ? thanks. also the ability to rename photos, music files, and video files/folders wouldn’t be so bad either. Thanks Again !

Ok.. I had to register here just to say APPLAUSE!

Here you guys walk around, wondering why people start using custom FWs. This right here is the reason.

How about fixing the so called web browser for better compatibilty? How about an updated flash player? How about DIVX support? How about a PDF reader? How about better RSS reader? How about PC remote play? How about Youtube?
Almost all of the above can be done with CFW.

You added a google search icon and call it 4.00(which is supposed to be a milestone)? Google is about the only thing the very impaired psp “web browser” can do.

So with other words, we’re getting a slow-mo function and probably lots of anti-CFW code that took you guys like 2 months to write that’s going to be hacked within hours anyway.

Applause, you just lost another original FW user.

Doesn’t seem like comments are getting much more positive, nice adverts over at Wally world though.

One other feature I’ve been killing for is the ability to delete files. Like when I have more then just music in an albums folder or one of those system files from my PC in with a photos folder and I feel like deleting it FROM MY PSP, it would be real nice not to have to connect to a PC or use homebrew just to delete a folder and it’s containing files entirely.

This is practically useless cause i already have google as my homepage on the psp. though i like the slowing down and speeding up video feature.

Now all you need is to somehow upgrade the flash player so we can play videos on the PSP.

Come on SCEA, You guys can do a lot better than just two updates. Case in point Microsoft regularly does 4 to 5 new features every update. Now Granted They didn’t do one for this spring Due to working on DRM but I cant wait to see what they come out with in the fall.

Ok, you people have it all wrong! This isn’t sweet one little bit! How hard is it to scroll to the web browser and hit a bookmark that says “google”? and the other feature letting you view a vid in slow or fast motion: what’s the point of that? The PSP is mutch further in updates and yet all we get is crap! PS3 owners get in-game XMB, and we get this useless S**t? WTF SONY Get real! Many were making up rumors of the following:
*Improved flash
*Music during games
*mucis and internet
**and many more, but instead, thats what the PS3 gets! Many are getting ready to sell their PSPs becuase of it getting so old! Over half thye games are crap and the updates prove useless! Im not updating to v4.00! There’s no point! I rest my case!

wow, i’m surprised no1 brought up the issue of that the psp needs a newer version of flash. it would be realy nice if sony came out with an update that gave a higher version of flash cuz right now u cant go to very many sites cuz the psp has an outdated version of flash and barely any sites use that low of a version of flash most require i newer version of flash so wut is realy needed is a new version of flash so we can get some actual use out of the online feature.

p.s. to the ppl who think u cant listen to ur own music while playing a game ur full of it cuz u can on certain games like need for speed carbon for an example.

my bad now i see that a few ppl brought up about the flash player. btw, another good update the psp could have is like so many other ppl have said access to the psn store without the need for a pc. seriously how many ppl carey a pc with them everywhere they take their psp? eh…..wutever i’m sure theres some method to sonys madness even though it dont seem like it.

Certain games is by far not all, there are actually very few that let you use your own music in them and this causes people to spend their extra dough on buying (or, often enough) rebuying an mp3 player just so they can listen to their own music in games.

Now I understand it isn’t very viable for Sony to do, not after they unlocked 333MHz for developers and set the extra RAM in the Slim to be used as a cache for faster loading, but it is something that needs to come as a release feature in the next system.

By then it will be standard among home consoles, and is a feature sorely needed in portables due to limited space for developers as well as portables always getting (significantly) smaller budgets then home console games.

My final post in here.

Seems Sony doesn’t care about what we have to say, as there weren’t even responses to a single post in here. Kind of sad, and does start to really show that Sony is just keeping the PSP around long enough to showcase the PSP2, one system that will be likely follow the PS3 in that much of games will be available on disk, and usable after being paid for to be unlocked a few weeks after the game is released.

Thanks Sony, really shows what customers you care about, the PS3 owners and those in Japan.

Hopefully an update with the ability to get full screen on remote play with playstation 1 titles will come soon, since this update was pretty underwhelming.

I’m a big fan of the audio quality of the PSP. That’s why I’d like to see:

1) FLAC support. FLAC is a lossless audio codec supported by lots of Sony pro-level software like Vegas, etc. Playback in the PSP would be fantastic!

2) Ogg Vorbis support. Ogg Vorbis is technically superior to MP3 and offers lossy file sizes similar to MP3.

Both can be implemented royalty-free. They are both open-source and unencumbered by patents and therefore implemented at minimal cost to Sony with great gains for the userbase, both present and prospective purchasers.

IMO, this would make the PSP a truly converged ‘Walkman for today’, and put its audio codec support up to today’s modern standards.

Please consider this for future upates as the PSP evolves. Thank you!

It’s great to see Sony releasing updates to improve the PSP, but why don’t the developers poll the users to find out what features they really want added to the XMB?

Some things on my wishlist:
in-game XMB
media extender (like PS3 is)
PSN access
PSN Store (only for purchases! please don’t get rid of the PSP website)

No. The PS3 firmware *HAS NOT* been hacked.

Oh, and there are a few things that will NEVER happen on the PSP:

1. In-game XMB – not enough RAM.
2. Improved web browser – ditto.
3. Improved flash player – ditto.
4. Using the memory stick as a cache for ANYTHING – the PSP has no MMU, which means no mapping a cache to any other device but the RAM without huge amounts of code. Not to mention that the memory stick is already ridiculously SLOOOOW.

Things that homebrewers have ALREADY DONE that Sony needs to move their ass on:

1. RSS feed reader that reads text and displays images, and allows you to browse the web while listening to podcasts
2. Divx/Xvid/Quicktime/FLV playback (in PSPTube)
3. FLAC/OGG playback
