What’s going on, PS3 playaz? I’m pleased to announce that Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is now available on the PlayStation Store for only $9.99! The spiritual successor to the classic Commando and Mercs series arrives with the frenetic arcade-action you remember, combined with 3D HD graphics and 3 player online and local co-op. (You can even ride tanks and jeeps together!)
History note: Where did the name “Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3” come from? Well aside from our penchant for extremely long game titles (see the entire Street Fighter series), the name is taken from the original 1985 Japanese coin-op, “Senjo No Okami”, which means, you guessed it, Wolf of the Battlefield.

Ok, I know many of you are disappointed that the game doesn’t come with a Street Fighter HD Beta. We did everything we could to try to make it happen, but bottom line, we’re working hard to make a game that you’ll be extremely happy with. As an added bonus, we’re giving you the opportunity to play Commando a week before the XBLA version releases. Finally, for all the PlayStation Street Fighter fans, we are planning some cool stuff for you, so stay tuned.
But I digress, Commando 3 is a great pick-up-and-play game for you and your friends, with that old school, arcade style flavor. You also won’t be disappointed with the graphics since this game makes fantastic use of the PS3 shaders, depth of field, dramatic lighting and particle effects. It’s almost 4pm here and still nothing on the store update today really. This news to be posted sooner in the day that way we know what we are getting. It’s so annoying not knowing what is coming out until the day is over and I get home. Just start posting this news sooner.

If you’re the only one who plays your PS3, you might as well enable remote start via Internet. That way you can access remote play over the Internet without having to have left the PS3 on when you left the house.

Game looks awesome but it’s very disappointing to not have the SSFIIT:HDR beta on the PS3. The 360’s d-pad is god-awful IMO, so I just can’t justify playing Street Fighter on the 360.
Still, I may hold out for the 360 version just for the beta. I’m not buying this game for the beta, because this game looks AWESOME, but it would be really nice to play SSFIIT:HDR early.
Anyway, great game guys! Looking forward to playing it either later today or next week.

John Diamonon i havent turned my back on capcom yet and i dont see my self doing it anytime soon.I understood that dmc4 need to be ported to 360 to make more money.now that the ps3 installed base is sizeable .will capcom ever make an exclusion game for us loyal ps fans?
also think game is great i will buy it next week for sure.As for the surprise for playstation fan of street fighter i would love for you guys to make akuma in street fighter 4 exclusion to the ps3.
also since i on a roll i would love to see a mega man legend 3 and would love to see a usa release of megaman legend 1 and 2 on the psp.

My wild theory is that, QORE will probably require it’s own section in the store, and some changes so that the system know you got the issue (for betas and stuff). So it’s waiting for 2.40 to go LIVE before the new content can be put up.

I’m a little burnt out on top-down shooters, so I’ll give this one a pass unless the reviews are phenomenal.
But on the subject of making Akuma a PS3-exclusive for SFIV, that’s an awesome idea! Give the 360 Dan or somebody else; I don’t care, but give us (or everybody) Akuma. He’s my favorite character.
And yeah, this update is taking a ridiculously long time. I don’t see why updating the Store is always such a secretive process. We never usually get to know ANYTHING coming out until it’s out unless the developer spills it themselves, and there’s never a set time of day when it gets updated. Like, I know Qore will come out now and I remember some of the other content, but I have no idea what’s taking so long. Honestly, they should be putting this stuff up at midnight promptly.

Wow!! I loved Mercs for my Sega Genesis back in the 32 bit era. That game was so much fun. 2 many fond memories of me playing that awesome fun game. Especially when u hop on that tank 4 the 1st time. I loved that game so much, I played it for hours on end…..till 1 day someone stold it.:(
I might as well download this game for the PS3 next week if its anything like Mercs. (bear in mind that im on PSP & i cant see the gameplay video. PSP in its 3rd year & it still cant play online videos….what a shame)

Looks like a nice, fun action romp.
I’ll probably download it on my 360 to play with some old friends (most of whom don’t have PS3s, sadly).
Any word on what’s up with Bionic Commando: ReArmed? It missed the release date, which makes me sad as the original is my favorite side-scroller.

John, I love this game! I was a kid when I got my hands on Commando in the arcade and then the nes and loved it. I played that game more than any other game at the time. I love Mercs, aswell and this is just awesome. Thanks for giving the Ps3 something decent for once. Novastrike and this are amazing games and I wish everyone would who owns a ps3 would support them for you & Tiki games sake.
Anyways, please port over Ghost n’ Goblins to the PSN in HD!!! Please!!! Please!!! Please!!! That or Final Fight. I voted for Final Fight on your poll, by the way but it isn’t looking good next to the other games.

I totally agree with you. I’ve purchased both and really hope everyone does as well.
In the case of Commando 3, if we really want to see more games ported to PSN, we need to support the ones that are being released.
Speaking of which.. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in HD with online play would be sweet, but where’s Mega Man 2… HD … John?

By the way, is this a totally new game or a remake of Commando? I know it says Commando 3 but I saw Commando footage in there.
It’s a shame how we can only vote for one game in your poll; I voted for Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, even though I wanted to vote for Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and Power Stone 2 as well.
I also think you should release the rest of the Powered Up remakes and the rest of the X remakes on PSP.

Commando 3 is not a remake of Commando, but a whole new installation that takes elements from both Commando and Mercs.
