Resistance 2 GP cover

Want to read everything about Resistance 2‘s 300-foot tall, skyscraper-smashing Leviathan? Then you’ll want to pick-up of the August issue of GamePro Magazine! In the 10-page Resistance 2 cover story, you’ll see the first details and images of one of our boss Chimera, which we call the Leviathan. In addition, GamePro got the chance to play through a lengthy segment of our Chicago single-player level, and checked out our 8-player online co-op and competitive multiplayer. The issue is hitting subscribers now and goes on newsstands early next week, but if you really can’t wait, here’s a sneak peak at a couple of the new screenshots below.

Obviously, you’ll have to go buy the magazine to see more of Resistance 2, which also features an exclusive three-page fold-out cover showing some art our team created of Nathan Hale in Chicago and a few other surprises. Check out a preview here

If you are a Resistance fan, this issue is a must-have.

Next up for us is E3. We’re working hard to prepare for the big show. Stay tuned for lots of new info from us soon.

As always, Bryan Intihar and I will be around answering your questions in the comments section.

Big fan of R1’s online and can’t wait to play this one.

That monster is huge! Are there any other bosses besides that one?

As I said earlier, that ain\’t the only oversized beat in R2.

Ok. The only question I have is, are RFoM and R&C: ToD going to support in-game soundtracks and in-game XMB?…I want an answer and I was wondering. I know a bit about development but not enough to know how difficult it would be to implement these. I’m not sure but it should be no problem except for the RAM usage of those games, am I right?

What your take on the trophies for Resistance 2 will they be awesome? Also anything planned for Home.

+ Stoffinator on July 1st, 2008 at 4:34 pm said:

I wish you guys would do trophies for Ratchet..Future. Its a game that really deserves them. I can see you guys not bothering with R1, but Ratchet really does need it.

+ SabbathRider on July 1st, 2008 at 4:34 pm said:

Similar to my earlier comment.

Are us Europeans getting to see any of the info from Gamepro in a UK magazine?

Hi James Stevenson

Could you give Insomniac games, our requests for trophy’s for resistance fall of man and Ratchet and Clank: Future? I would love to have a new incentive to replay these 2 gems, and I am sure, some people will be tempted to buy them (if they haven’t yet done so) to get the trophies and level up.

This is Bryan. For those who missed my ealier post:

Currently, there are no plans to add trophies to R1 and RCF. Right now, our No. 1 focus is finishing R2 and making it the best game possible.

What can you tell us about 0708? Is it really referring to the rumored Ratchet Expansion or something big with R2(Outside of E3)?

+ willacuz on July 1st, 2008 at 4:40 pm said:

Are the textures from those 3000k images the same textures that are going to be in the actual resolution for gameplay? I was always curious to know if you just up the AA samples for the press images, or if those are actually higher res?

+ Sentry on July 1st, 2008 at 4:41 pm said:

@ 97

No its S3NTRY, and then the birth date, lol.

But I’ll add you when I am able to get on in a few weeks, game with you soon bro.

@ 98

I don’t that is very chimera like, they dont hold hostages, they are keen to jumping at you and biting you head off, rather then holding an ally hostage, lol.

@ 99

You can bet that E3 is going to be a huge deal for R2, they will be showing a ton of more stuff about the MP, judging from the pre-E3 event.

+ Sentry on July 1st, 2008 at 4:43 pm said:

@ 108

The real game doesn’t run at 3840 x 2160, so the textures won’t look like they do in those over sized images.

+ ShadowBlade on July 1st, 2008 at 4:48 pm said:

Can u comfirm how many Aliens are in the game if not then it ok. thankz Or E3 will give us all the details we want to know?

+ tirminyl on July 1st, 2008 at 4:56 pm said:

Amazing. Seeing the monster completely gives me a Cloverfield vibe. Hopefully, the action will be as epic as the screens are telling me. Thanks guys!

I went back and played thru Resistance the last few days and I have to tell you, maybe it’s the new tv I got since playing thru it back when it 1st came out but these graphics are really pretty damn impressive.

I never thought of Resistance as a sheer powerhouse in visuals beside Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted and others but this game has some incredible scale and detail to it.

anyways, I can’t wait for Resistance 2. I love Insomniac and without them and Naughtydog I’d be on the other system for sure. You guys keep me parked in Sony’s lot, I want you to know that.

1 question, though… Are you using the texture stream gag from R&CFTOD for Resistance 2, cause that game is seriously unmatched graphically to this day.

+ Sentry on July 1st, 2008 at 5:01 pm said:

Oh my dear god Resistance 2 has made gamesblow actually post something positive! O_O

I kid.

+ willacuz on July 1st, 2008 at 5:03 pm said:

Im sure the game doesn’t run at that resolution…

my question is about whether or not those same textures are used for the regular game…

meaning that if you just upped the anti aliasing, it would be the same quality texture at the 3k res than the lower res.

+ dewmandew7 on July 1st, 2008 at 5:07 pm said:

Seriously Bryan. Get me unbanned from myresistance. =|

I wouldn’t be demanding this if the message had said “banned indefinitely”. It said banned for four days. Plus, it was just for rick rolling. I believe that I deserve to be unbanned. :P

Since you’re hanging around here, Bryan, I wanna say congrats on the move to Insomniac. Listening to you on the podcast, it sounds like you’re really happy there.

+ gamesblow on July 1st, 2008 at 5:12 pm said:

Bryan one more question actually. It concerns the Leviathan thing there in the city, smashing stuff n’ things.

Would you say this fight has more depth than the Spider thing from Gears of War or the PC version Brumack fight? I ask cause those bosses both lacked AI. They were underwhelming and just plain drab and boring, aside from to look at.

I am hoping you make the fight more than just lure it here and lure it there or something. I remember playing Shadow of the Colossus for the 1st time and some of those colossi were tough. I’d be on 1 for an hour at a time trying to figure it out. The last boss was amazing, by the way.

So can you give a little nod or something as to the depth the Leviathan has? As in will it be easy to beat and can we beat it in under 5 min, you think?

+ xbandaidx on July 1st, 2008 at 5:12 pm said:

Doesn’t the Gamepro cover seem a bit misleading. From what I know it contains information on how to GET into beta, it doesn’t actually give you a code or something in the magazine.

+ Sentry on July 1st, 2008 at 5:20 pm said:

Yeah I guess they are loose in tracking the bans because they might have so many, or maybe they just forgot? Btw was it a rick roll that takes control of the window and starts moving it around and whatnot, or was it just a video?

I have (well used to) see many rick rolls with youtube videos, those never got a ban, it was only those who used the ones that make it hard to close your window and stuff. Those are hilarious to use though lol, but really annoying…

Hey Bryan,

how will the two weapon system work in multiplayer? i mean i know you cant give away too many details, but i mean will we all start with the machine gun carbine thing and just pick up other weapons along the way, and the chimera will start with the bullseye?

is there a class system similar to Call of Duty 4 where players can make a “class” that starts off with a specific weapon? (suppose i want to make a chimera class that starts every game with the auger for example?)

what’s Ted Price’s favorite soda?

if hale has “19 hours left to live”, does that suggest a 19 hour single player campaign?!? OMG!!!!

the Leviathan looks HUGE!!!! thanks for including a HUGE boss in the game. and from your post i guess there’s more in store!

no doubt there’ll be some new weapons right? how many weapons in total: many, quite a few, some, not that many, a lot to choose from?

lol ok i know those questions probably wont be answered. maybe this one will.

i’m a little confused how i’ll be able to meet up with friends to play online co-op. if the game has its own story, and its not just one level with continuous villains trying to kill you and you have to hold off for a specific time (remember the arena fights in Ratchet Deadlocked?), how will i be able to save my progress at one point in the story and then the next day continue from that same point? is there a checkpoint system, so whenever i boot up the game after saving at a specific checkpoint i’ll be matched with people who happened to save at that same checkpoint?

lol, long questions, but i hope you guys can give me an answer? even if its vague, anything would help!!!

you guys are the best DEVS EVER!! you definitely have my $60 when this game comes out!

and by the way, do you know where i could find a copy of Disruptor or Spyro the dragon? i dont think stores sell ps1 games anywore and my Spyro the dragon copy doesnt work anymore :( ……

Hey Bryan,

60 players online is truly something phenomenal for a console game.

do you think on the box of Resistance 2 there’ll be some little PSN icon on the front (like whenever an xbox game has online support, it says LIVE in the top right hand corner)? i just think if Sony were ever to start doing this, they should start doing this with the biggest online game of the year.

also, is there a really big difference between 30 frames per second and 60 frames? i mean anything i could notice with my EYES while actually playing the game. does it mean more frequent slowdown? because i really dont remember any slowdown in resistance 1.

+ DankandSticky on July 1st, 2008 at 5:44 pm said:

@ Icecoldkilla

Last I heard you had to clean Ted Price’s bathrooms and have bubbles in the tub for when he gets home. Not too many though, he doesn’t like that.

After that you can wash & Wax his car and rub his feet while he reads playboy jokes aloud over dinner.

But this was posted on Kotaku and you know how bias those shanks are.
