As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.
so can we get a date on when the update will be back online? i missed downloading it the first time around and im anxious to get my hands on it. bout time we get a in game XMB

Funny, ps360 and yet kinda true–some will never be satisified. I was personally waiting for 4.0 Beer Despenser update…pretty much sure it’s gotta come after the Pancake 3.0 update. Dammit, it’s gotta, Sony!!!

Hey all, been at work all day and I’m just catching up on the blog. The news about 2.41 has spread all over the interwebs as everyone from Gizmodo to Joystiq is reporting it. It has not yet become an official Sony statement. But I have a feeling that it won’t until the firmware is locked and been tested about a million times over. They’ll definitely want to get this out before E3 so they can really show it off there and claim the big success. What I’m hearing is that most of the bugs that are being claimed, are just that bugs. Nothing fatal, just some unexpected glitches from the customized PS3s that really couldn’t have been found during testing. The “bricking” problem (which I hate people saying the machine bricked. There is nothing wrong w/ the hardware, the machine works again w/ a few easy fixes.) seems to have been caused by bad downloads which can partially be attributed to the interest in getting these features by the public and the overwhelming demand on the servers.
Don’t be surprised if 2.41 just shows up Wednesday night w/ no announcement until Thursday. Sony may try to circumvent getting all the demand at once by doing that.
Also of note: Sony is neither confirming nor denying this piece of news that 2.41 is nearly ready, which means that it probably is true as if it were false they would come out immediately and tell everyone so as to not take a big PR hit.
And my last thought, I was on Kotaku at work (I can’t get to this blog, websense sux)and some dude was trying to say that MGS4 was going to be on the 360 next year, to which I immediately informed him that Kojima was complaining about the limited space on a Blu-ray disc, so unless they were planning on a 6-10 disc version for the x-box it probably wasn’t going to happen

I want to be the first one to install Firmware 2.41..I install 2.40 during the first 5 mins it was available…so I am not scared and I will be there when 2.41 comes out. You bring it Sony!
So far my PS3 (firmware 2.40) has been perfect. I played it all this weekend. No issues this weekend.
lol July 2nd. Most of us were hyped for in game music so me and a group of people were all in the chat and next thing you know is that the update comes up everyone updated at the sametime. Im guessing thousands did too LOL

ok, have the 2.4 update and everything seems to be fine. My question is, besides the fix for the 2.4 update, do you think they’re gonna add anything else to the update? Like, say, x-game voice chat and x-game invites? just isn’t the same playing COD4 without good voicechat. Also, x-games invites should of been on the PS3 from launch. Oh well, I guess we’ll all see in a couple of days. Anyway, let me know what you guys think. Is the new update just a fix or are they gonna add some other stuff that we’ve been whining about like in-game music?

nothing is official of course, but I’m pretty sure it’s only a fix, maybe they might have moved the clock, but that would be the extent of the changes I would expect. They just need to get it out to the people w/ buggy versions, and to all of us that don’t have it yet (I’m just not ballsy enough to download off another site)
I would expect more updates over the next couple months, all in prep for the Home Beta which goes live this fall.
I believe that this is all part of a bigger plan by Sony. Many, if not all of the features we want, are probably currently developed and available, if they chose to release them. But rather than do that, why not trickle them out, ever so slowly, and as they see fit, in order to keep us coming back over and over again, and keeping the PR train a-rollin’ on countless websites covering the “excitement”? What possible good could it do for Sony to release all of our simple wants in one update? Even if Home is ready, what negative effect would it do Sony not to delay it internally, in order to keep the hype machine alive? They have stated that the PS3 is to have a 10 year life cycle. In order to do that, they must, by definition, delay and purposely stumble along the way, to keep us pleebs on edge and begging for more. They have done a good job considering the 2400 plus posts on a site that only has maybe a third of the Playstion’s community’s attention. If this 2.4 fiasco wasn’t done on purpose then, some young, ambitious VP at Sony missed a big chance at herodoom to suggest such. Look at how many of us are biting at the bit for a less than complete update right before E3, and how many will sing the praises when it comes out proper? I love my PS3, and will NEVER buy a MS console….but we have all been had.
The 2.4 update is a fraud that will garner Sony alot of attention at E3…period.

and its promted me to download the new update. Im downloading now hope all goes well.
Well, cant see any problems at the moment, games arent lagging anymore… so hopefully all fixed :). will do extensive testing today seeing as im not at work . lol

2.4 has killed the console, wont display anything can’t update it, no reply to mail sent to sony, help desk said to bring it in and well you should have it back in 6 weeks, thanks

since this is the “status” thread, i’m still waiting to here about the status of the other things we asked for? in-game/x-game invites and in-game/x-game voice and video chat/messaging. hate to say it but, like the 360. I don’t know why its a love it or leave it thing with some people on this blog! I mean, those are the basic necessities to have a decent online gaming experience now-a-days. anyhow, thanks for the update fix sony! just add the other stuff i mentioned before and trophies for other games other than that b.s. stardust and we’ll be alright. I’m telling you, I haven’t really enjoyed a good game since MGS4 came out. Nothing has come out for a while. oh well, now i’m starting to rant.
